Okay, so I'm back in LR giving this spot another try, and DAMN I'm happy I did. I clearly just…read moreordered the wrong thing, because this time around they knocked it out of the park! This time around I asked the girl at the counter what her favorite dish was and she said, "shrimp kabobs." I was sold. SO GLAD I LISTENED!!!! These are THE most flavorful kabobs I've ever had, and they are accompanied by some of the best rice and beans I've ever had. I was fully expecting beans and rice Mexican-style since the place is owned-operated by mi gente, but it was a more Cajun-style brand and rice. These beans and rice are so damn good. I just can't. These kabobs are perfectly seasoned with fresh lemons, tomatoes, onions, and zucchini. It's is CLEAR they make these to order, so when you get it expect a wait...that will be well worth it. Yeah, I take back my last review. You don't come to a place like this in central Arkansas and order oysters. That was dumb. This, however, is the best decision I've made this trip. Hands down.

Eight years since my last visit to Little Rock, and The Flying Fish was at the top of my list. Some…read moreplaces you wonder if it will still be the same. Flying Fish hasn't missed a beat. The setup tells you everything you need to know before eating: paper towel roll on the table, hot sauce lineup, Lance saltines, and a soundtrack of Lightin' Hopkins and Son House fill the room. The chairs look like they escaped from a 1950s diner and that's how everyone likes it. The catfish is the real deal -- cornmeal-crusted, perfectly seasoned, tender inside with just the right snap on the outside. The shrimp are butterflied, large, perfectly breaded, and fried with the same care. Hush puppies that are neither greasy nor dense, which sounds simple until you realize how rarely anyone gets it right. There's a New Orleans soul to this place, and some Memphis too, but nothing precious about it. No one here is performing. Farmers, families, folks still in their work clothes. The people who cook this food grew up eating it every Sunday at grandma's table, and it shows in every basket. If mudbugs are still on the menu when you visit, don't overthink it. Order them. The Flying Fish isn't trying to be anything. That's exactly why it's everything.

Easily my favorite thing we ordered. The cheese curds were good, the salmon was solid, and the spasagna was giving cozy comfort-food vibes and was actually pretty good. I had the steak, and it was okay, not bad at all, just not the star for me. Overall, it's still a good restaurant with a solid menu and good energy. Definitely worth checking out. But if you go, do not skip the spinach dip.. that's the real main character.

I have had two completely different experiences at this restaurant. The first time was amazing and…read moreone of the best dining experiences I've had. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was the complete opposite. We were seated all the way in the back near an exit, next to a very large and extremely loud party. There were also flies in the area, which made the seating even less enjoyable. Between the noise, bright lights, and overall atmosphere, it wasn't a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. The hostess told us it would be fine to move to the bar, so we did. However, our waitress seemed very upset that we moved, even though the bar wasn't her section. Before we could even order drinks, the situation became uncomfortable due to the negative attitude and lack of communication. Instead of asking if something was wrong or if there was anything they could do to improve our experience, there seemed to be frustration directed toward us for simply wanting to relocate. What made the experience worse was the staff members were talking about the situation rather than addressing it professionally. At that point, we decided to leave without ordering. I've worked in customer service and understand that busy shifts and large parties can be stressful. However, guests should never feel like an inconvenience for wanting a comfortable place to dine. The difference between my first visit and this one was night and day. I hope management takes this as constructive feedback because the restaurant clearly has the potential to provide excellent service--I experienced it myself on my first visit.

They claimed The Pantry has the best fish and chips anywhere and THEY WERE RIGHT. First, I was struck by the vibrant trendy atmosphere that felt perfect for a Friday night. We received friendly service throughout our stay as well. We each tried a different mocktail and I was impressed! Not many places put much thought or effort into mocktails so hat's off to them in this regard. In addition to our entrees, we absolutely loved the bread and truffle deviled eggs as well. If you're looking for a recommendation, you won't be disappointed with the fish and chips. Perfectly battered and the fish melts in your mouth.

We started with mezcal cocktails and took our time enjoying the evening. The service was attentive without being rushed, which made it easy to relax, eat slowly, and actually enjoy the conversation at the table. We shared several dishes: deviled eggs, veal meatballs, bacon-wrapped dates, and the cheese spaetzle. Everything was flavorful, but the veal meatballs really stood out. They came in a rich tomato sauce that was so good we ordered extra baguettes just to soak up every last bit. No regrets. The bacon-wrapped dates were a great balance of sweet and savory, and the spaetzle was rich and comforting. By the end of the meal we were completely full, but honestly still wishing we had room for more. The small plates add up, but the quality made it feel worth it. Great service, great cocktails, and really satisfying food. Definitely a place I'd come back to.
