At midday on a weekday (spring-2026), this warm-feeling comfortable pub was active but not crowded. Of course we had beer-battered fish & chips: tender sweet cod in a not-too-thick crunchy flavorful coating, with fresh greens, onions, and tomatoes. Served with piping-hot thin fries, hand-cut to give a variety of crispier vs. soft bites. You could get that as a small-plate, as a Po'Boy sandwich, or as a main. And we had a bowl of thick rich flavorful creamy chowder. Delicious, satisfying dishes. They had a nice selection of deep crusty savory pies, too. We loved their amazing range of single-malt whiskeys, including some like a smokey softly-fruity Port Askaig that we haven't seen elsewhere. We liked slowly sipping a strongly-peaty young Islay, like 10-year Laphroaig, and Boyd's also had plenty of smoother well-aged pours up and down the price-range. They also had a nice selection of crafts, ales, stouts, ciders, and several Scottish brews. We saw that they have live music almost every evening (not Mondays), with midday music Sat and Sun. Scottish, Irish, bluegrass, old-time, classic country, and more! Next time we have to fit that into our schedule. And fútball (soccer) of course! Boyd's Jig & Reel is a must-visit in the middle of Knoxville!

I would have liked a little more sausage on the Scotch egg, but that is about the only critique I can come up with. Everything was hot, fresh, and full of flavor, and both are dishes I would absolutely order again. I also tried a couple of local beers: a PB&J sour from XUL Beer Company that somehow really did taste like drinking a PB&J sandwich, and the Dr. Robot Blackberry Lemon Sour from Monday Night Brewing. There are none in CA. Fortunately, they have a few in TN and this is located in Knoxville. The interior was tastefully decorated with pumpkins and Autumn harvest foliage. There was no wait and we were seated right away. It's a casual but classy ambiance. Brooklyn was our very lovely & sweet server, who provided us with excellent customer service. The inside of the restaurant is cool, dark and inviting. The store is not a dive but has a pleasant character about it that makes the experience very cool. Should you come during dinner hours, plan on a wait. Nathaniel was our waiter and he was great. He was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us a little requested guidance on what was on the menu. We started off with buffalo wings and corn ribs for appetizers. We ordered the Philly steak eggrolls, tater tots, and fish and chips for entree's. The corn ribs were unique and original. The tater tots were good but took a backseat to the delicious corn and egg-rolls. I didn't forget about the fish and chips...my son ordered that and he loved them! I had a bite and they were some of the best fish I have had. We recently had fish and chips in the Mayfair area of London and this fish was every bit as good as that fish. The batter was very good- not a beer batter but awesome nonetheless. And the portions? Huge!! Whatever food you like, come hungry because there is no shortage of it! The food was OK, but i expected some English pub type food, but it was just the same type of sandwichs prepared differently. The service was bad. I ordered my food and had pay for it right there just like at a Burger King. They dropped the food on the table and left. Nobody ever checked back to see if it was made correctly or if I needed anything. So many other places with better service and food - definitely a hard pass on a return visit...
