a glass of beer on a table
    Meri L.

Came here for some pumpkin beer after seeing a picture of pumpkin beer that looked super delish on Instagram. We were disappointed. Not only did it not come with a cinnamon rim, but it didn't even taste like pumpkin beer. It tasted like a basic lager. While it was refreshing on the hot day, it wasn't what we wanted. The bathroom was clean. You "talk" to the paper towel dispenser for it to work. That was probably the highlight of our visit. Eh. Disappointed.

Kinda more of a neighborhood dive bar than a tasting room. Nothing much to look at, and while the brew was ok... just kinda felt as if we had interrupted them. Cool shirts... shame they had very few in odd sizes.

As the sun sets, the beer still flows.

When the Irish and Long Island love each other very much they have a baby (a 21 year old baby that loves beer) and name it Long Ireland Beer Company. Maybe that's not exactly how this brewery started up, but regardless, it's a must stop location for any beer lover. Yesterday's visit of the Riverhead trio of breweries meant a stop in to enjoy many drinks with a few chums and my sis. This was my second visit here. First time around (about a year and a half ago) I might've chalked the place up to a four star caliber location. That was then, this is now. LIBC looks like a farmhouse and can be easily missed when driving by (my buddy almost missed the turn into the lot!). Once inside, the tasting room isn't too large and only has a handful of wooden hightop tables. But the beer is flowing and the people keep on coming in. We got there at the perfect timing and snagged the last hightop. With more than ten brews available, you'll have your hands full in choosing what to try. Flight? Yes please. Chip system so one taste at a time which honestly is a good idea in keeping your t-buds focused on the flavors of that specific beer until you've washed it all down. Standard 4 choices for $8. I started with the Winter Ale which had a medium body and fits the season perfectly (a new favorite). Next up was the Hooligan stout. Full-bodied and full-flavored with a hint of bitterness. Third was the Celtic Ale which is Long Ireland's pride and joy, doing its duty of being a smooth and tasty original brew. Final of the four was the chocolate porter. I was impressed with the notes of cocoa on the palate after each gulp. Well done LIBC, well done. Special shoutout to the Raspberry Wheat which I didn't include in my flight, but is one of the very select beers that my girlfriend will drink. My sis included that in hers so I had a swig of it and it has a lovely light crisp fruity flavor. Great beer and good conversation ensued until it was time for our final stop of three (Here's lookin' at you, Crooked Ladder). Overall, Long Ireland brings plenty of pride to the isle through its hearty, tasty brews and a brewery that brings in tons of passionate drinkers. You've made me a true fan (I got a pint glass!) and though I may not be out in Riverhead all the time, consider this a spot worthy of stopping at when I am.

After spending the afternoon at the north fork wineries with some friends we decide to switch up the pace by stopping here to combat our wine fatigue, and since I wasn't driving, cultivate a nice hybrid wine/beer buzz. The tasting room is nothing fancy with a few high top table and a stand up bar. The walls had a listing of some events, a dart board towards the back and a large window to overlook the behind the scenes brewing operation. I did a flight and was most impressed with the chocolate porter and the black friday imperial stout. My friends liked the black friday so much they actually bought a partial keg of it (*). The server was awesome giving us an additional taste combining the chocolate porter with a splash of raspberry wheat, knowing it would be a crowd pleaser. Give it a shot if you like raspberry truffles - not something I could drink a lot of, but it was interesting to try. Great place to stop especially if you want to mix up your wine tour. All their beers are made well and they have a helpful staff that will point you in the right direction. * This was back on MLK day - I wonder if my friends still have any of that keg left and how come I haven't been invited over? Too good to share I guess! haha

Even during a pandemic Long Ireland is still pumping out high quality beer! Just stopped in to restock on chocolate porter since it's back out (and my personal fav!). Always worth the stop!

In my tasty journey to experience Long Island Craft Breweries, stop number three was Long Ireland Brewing in Riverhead. Now this Brewery is more of an industrial style building with a good size parking lot out front. This is a no frill space, but there is something good going on inside, another wonderful experience with delicious craft beers. Now this is a good size Tasting Room with accommodations for 30 to 40 beer tasting fans. The space is a little warehouse looking, but today's Tap Master Kelly made you feel welcome. Kelly is a friendly and outgoing Representative of this Brewery who was ready to offer brews, information and a friendly smile. Sample sizes are about 4 oz's with 8 delicious beers on Tap and one bottle to taste. Once again my tasty journey discovered some wonderful craft beers. Everything I sample had lots of flavor with quality of ingredients. When it comes to adult beverages I like to review the items in general terms. I leave the taste buds and opinion to the reviewer to try. What I can say, I had some good tasty craft beer today. I like them all, but found some to be more to my liking. There is something to be said about having some fresh beer served when ready. Outstanding. I was only able to taste 4 of the 8, I am a Responsible Drinker, but I found The Celtic Ale and Pale Ale to be very, very tasty. It was more of my kind of beer. Lots of flavor and very easy to drink. Overall, I highly recommend this brewery for a visit. It may be out of your way, but if you plan a Tasty Journey like me, you can hit 2 or 3 Breweries within a few hours. Tasting Room offered pretzels, a clean bathroom, metal puzzles, plenty of room and lots of fun. Long Ireland Brewing has a good product and I wish them well.

Always have to make a point and stop here when in town for some Celtic Ale! Their Raspberry Wheat is a good one to chug down on a hot summer day as well. There's always something going on at this brewery which makes for a fun trip out to Riverhead. Check their website often for the various events they do like the epic, "Halfway to St.Paddy's Day!" Tasting room is a good size and they have pretty cool merchandise for sale as well as some bottled versions of their seasonal brews. Staff here are very friendly and accommodating always taking the time to tell you about what you are drinking. They definitely take pride in their product - and rightfully so it is pretty dammed good stuff! I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Superstar Beverage chain started carrying six pack bottles of their Celtic Ale, Summer Ale, and Breakfast Stout! Now I don't have to go all the way to out to Riverhead for a growler run!

First of all, I love the name, real clever. I did not have a beer that I did not enjoy. Tasting room is big and open, clean, with a window to view the brewing area. Everyone that came in seemed to know the bartender by name, and vice versa (repeat customers is always a good thing. I like that you buy green poker chips and trade them in for beer, makes it feel like you aren't paying for beer. The pumpkin was a solid beer, I like the cinnamon sugar rim (bartender hated the fact he had to rim a beer lol). I am normally not a fan of the sweet beers, but the raspberry was very nice, clean, and not too overpowering raspberry taste. The double IPA was delicious, recommended by the bartender so I got it, and it did not disappoint. Nicely balanced hop profile with a nice aroma and good bitterness level.

We attended the Pintwood Derby car races on Saturday 1/26 which was our first time at Long Ireland Brewery. It is small inside (as most are) but very nice! They have nice merchandise from shirts/sweatshirts to glassware etc that are inexpensive. I love collecting pint glasses from breweries and i got one for only $3 and I LOVE their logo. They sell northfork chips, hot pretzels w/mustard, and peanuts to have with their tasty beer. They have a lot on tap and also have a refrigerator with cans to go! I enjoyed "Balor" for most of the evening though I tasted others and they were delicious as well. The pintwood derby event was held in the back where all the brewing equipment is which was cool. The races were so much fun and I was very surprised at the turn out! So many people came to this event. We had a great time at this brewery!

    Dan L.

So the tastings are free, the staff is super friendly and their beer is friggin delicious...what more do you need to know? I fell in love with the breakfast stout which was loaded with flavor but smoother then any stout I have had and I see how it could be enjoyed long before noon. I also had the pleasure of a tour and the facilities are impressive and the brewer, owner and tour guide Dan was great!

It was the same beer called devolve. I liked the beer it was light with a nice fruity taste. Northfork looks like they set up shop in a garage which is pretty cool, they designed it well but I wonder how they stay open in the winter. I did like the atmosphere of nice fresh air coming in from outside. I liked North Fork definitely a good brewery to check out!

Super nice and approachable, let us sample anything we wanted. I went with a flight to start out with since there was a nice variety of options. I'm not an IPA person, so I opted for a peach sour, a pilsner, a wheat beer and one wild card that was bitter but in a good way. I love a good sour and had to get a second glass of the peach beer after my flight. Prices are reasonable, flights are around $12 for four pours, and a draft beer is $9. They also have cans to go if there's a beer you fall in love with and want to take home with you. They have a rotating food truck out back (it was Greek food when we came here) and also had a few empanadas. We did the three for $13 and got a variety. Our bartender accommodated us by leaving the black bean one on a separate plate since one of us don't eat meat. Ambiance here is chill and laid back, there are several games you can play and there was live music you could hear playing from next door at Montauk Distilling Co. which was a nice touch. A solid place to spend a nice Sunday - I was honestly surprised they weren't packed.

Yeah I know we're still living in the Covid times, but grab that mask, squeeze on some sanitizer, and social distance your way over to Tradewinds Brewing in Riverhead. I did just that with my female counterpart a little more than a month ago. And that's why I'm flabbergasted! Tradewinds still has no posted reviews and that's a shame (because they're a pretty respectable brewery). Maybe it's the fact that many might not even realize that in a short chunk of time, Tradewinds morphed into existence from Crooked Ladder Brewing. It's the same spot and the same look, style, and feel, but don't expect the same beers. Well, don't expect the same employees either. I say that in a positive manner because when we strolled in the guy behind the bar was amazingly nice. Without asking, he explained everything on tap and even offered to open up a can of something not available via draft. The friendly interaction really set the mood for our brief time there, even if we were seated out on West Main Street at one of the tables setup along the sidewalk. Okay, beer time. No flights were available from what I gathered (at least at that time) plus I was the driver of the day so I went with just one pint. A few IPAs, a light lager, a hefeweizen, smoked maple stout, and one other (we'll get to him in a second) made up the menu. From the aforementioned employee's description of the beers, I went for HopShip, a New England style IPA with just enough subtle hoppy bite to work well on the palate and hit the proverbial spot on a warm September day. Honestly I might've skipped the review (perhaps like others?) if I had stopped at just this pint, but I did actually come with other drinkable thoughts in mind...that last beer I left out was actually Tradewinds' own pumpkin ale by the name of Incarnation. Instead of trying it there, I took the chance (which I don't normally don't) and bout a reasonably-priced four pack of this brew. Cans to go is always a plus, by the way. The next night, despite my own chagrin of saying I wouldn't drink anything pumpkin related until after Labor Day (it was two days prior), I popped a can and poured one out into a glass. Maybe my expectations were super high, but Incarnation didn't entirely hold the embodiment (pun intended) of a pumpkin beer I hoped for. Better than many basic ones, but not of the upper gourd echelon. I still have a few cans remaining to see if that changes. Time will tell. Overall, if I take the Untapped scores of the two beers I tried and average them out, I'd get a total that's close to four, and so that seems about right for Tradewinds on star total. I mean they have a lot of promise to be something spectacular. With a great location in the heart of Riverhead, super friendly staff, and a handful of beers that seem like they're trending in a decent direction, I'd say five stars is certainly (eventually) possible. Hopefully the word gets out (at least after this review) because I want to see someone else type up their opinion. Let's go Yelp fam. Drink up!

Feels like it's been far too long since the last time I reviewed a Long Island brewery (actually…read moreit's only been a month, but who's counting?). What really impresses me more than any beer writing is probably the last time I was actually blown away by a brewery. Luckily, I can tell you that Moriches Field Brewing Company has taken that honor. I visited with my fiancée and her family just last week with fantastic results. This relatively new brew spot revamped an old plane hanger and turned it into something special. The setup, decor of airplane pics, and logo all give homage to local aerial travel which creates a fun and unique vibe. It felt like a brewery which is perfect, though it didn't have a rowdy or loud feeling (and that was ideal). Some beer havens these days get a little too crowded (LIFB?), but on this midday Sunday time, the place was totally chill. What was also chill were the friendly employees and of course, the beer! One of the staff members behind the bar semi-helped me in going through a few brew choices as I attempted to figure out what I wanted for a flight (three 5oz pours). It was incredibly impressive to see their beer board with room for upwards of 15 beers. They only (I say that word loosely) had 11 on tap, but I mean that's often more than two or three microbreweries put together! Their guest taps of a Macari wine and a cider from the Best of LI award winning Po'Boy Brewery just added to the positives, especially when my mostly-non-beer-drinking soon-to-be in-laws (and wife) ordered that cider for themselves (and loved it!). For me, we'll get back to the beer. Of those 11 choices, I went with More Riches IPA, Festive Trickster (a festbier), and the Creamsicle Cream Ale. Tasting them in the opposite order I listed, Creamsicle was outstanding. It truly had a creamy consistency with wonderful orange and vanilla hints (I got a crowler of this before departing). But honestly I could've gotten a crowler of the other two as well. Festive Trickster had just the right zing of flavor from the yeast while More Riches had the perfect subtle hoppy bite while still finishing smooth. I was so tempted to get another flight of three to try their other potentially sensational suds, but alas, we had other plans on hand that day. All the more reason to return soon! Overall, there's really nothing negative I can say about Moriches Field Brewing Company (well, maybe just a note somewhere on flights and pricing perhaps?). They have a welcoming setup with friendly workers and (most importantly) a packed lineup of delicious beers. I can't wait until my next trip out there to load on the positives pics to this blown away-worthy five star write up.
