Poor customer service. This company really deserves zero stars. I had their sales associate Adam Thompson come to my house on March 3 to take measurements for a quote on vinyl fence. Almost a month later and still no quote. I called Adam no answer. I called the office number (703) 471-0960 and spoke with his boss which he had Adam call me. I spoke with Adam on a Thursday, March 10, 2022 and he asked if I could give him until Monday, March 14, 2022 to send me a quote. It is now April 3, 2022, and I am still waiting for that quote. I shouldn't have to chase a contractor down. Poor customer service. Need to follow up with their customer service reps and those customers that have been assigned to those reps. Need better quality assurance. It's too bad I was ready to hire. read more

I was scheduled to have the job done in January (within 4 months) no one called me to let me know why they weren't here with my fence. Finally, I called them in March and reminded them and they said it would be another two weeks. I chose Long Fence because I believe they were very professional and have been around for a long time, never dreaming I would find the installation of my fence in the front of my home would turn out giving me big problems with my lawn, driveway and gates. When I arrived home from work I found their extremely large truck was parked in my driveway and I saw the men digging up my lawn and leaving a 5 inch deep, 5 foot circle in my lawn which they were planning to leave it like that and English wasn't being spoken. Told them get me a supervisor and fix this problem. Lots of time went by, after unable to get anyone on the phone from the company to help me. Finally, after 4 phone calls and a cell phone, which was answered, a supervisor showed up and apologized for the condition of my lawn and bought soil and seeded it. Not a good job at all. So this is a wait and see event. The supervisor sent his team away while fixing the hole and I was going to park my cars when I found mud, sticks, screws all over my driveway that fell from their truck and my gates left wide open. I got a broom and cleaned up as best as I could and it still looked bad. I showed the supervisor what his men left on my property, they had no respect for my property at all. This was unacceptable behavior and that I wasn't going to pay my entire bill until the company talked to me about this situation with my lawn, driveway and fence. So far, Long Fence hasn't called me about the balance of my bill. I will let my friends know not to use Long Fence to do any work for them. I am saddened that in America this kind of shoddy work is being done to hard working Americans. read more

We had high hopes for Long fence. In August we put a deposit for a 10ft area that included a gate. Not a huge job. ($1300) The material being vinyl. We were told it would take longer than normal because of covid 6-8 weeks. We agreed that was okay. Many phone calls later to a lady named molly whom we left many messages for without a call back. And many calls to the manager... and many promises of the work being done the following week.. "the matierials are being shipped..."it is now December 31st and we still do not have our fence/gate... it just blows my mind that it has been more than FOUR months and we still do not have our order. At this point I want to be compensated for our massive wait and their disorganization or my deposit back. read more

WORST FENCE SERVICE EVER. We wanted to get our backyard fenced in before thanksgiving. After receiving a quote, we were told they would be by in a week and it would only take a day to put up. We thought that sounded too good to be true. It was. They came by to install the fence a week and a half AFTER thanksgiving. The original completion date was for before thanksgiving. They were unable to finish the work in one day because they didn't have the correct materials for the job. We had to cancel our payment on the fence in order to insure that they would come back. They told us they would return and stood us up on many appointments. When a manger came to our house to see what we were talking about, he finally claimed that this was the worst work he had ever seen. Workers finally came back to finish the fence and repair what they had done incorrectly, but my husband had to be there to tell them what to do because the manager did not communicate the problems to them. It took over 2 1/2 months for us to get the fence put in. We are happy that we have a fence, but we would consider another company next time. read more

Honestly, this is probably the type of large company that can be either spectacular or completely terrible depending on the sales rep and the contractors that are assigned. I guess if you have a terrible sales rep, you won't be buying the fence from Long Fence, so we can skip to the communications and the delivery. My sales rep Adam was great, he worked with me to make sure the work order was accurate and walked the property with me to stake it the day before delivery. The office manager was great in that she communicated to me the scheduled delivery and was available if I had any questions. The cost was great because I had a number of quotes and Long was able to work with me to get the best price possible based on my estimates in hand. The local outfits were much more expensive or unresponsive. The crew that installed the fence was fantastic. The craftsmanship was excellent and they completed a fairly large job in one day (Mt. Vernon Dip Picket + 2 gates). They cleaned up after themselves and listened to my micromanaging to make sure that we were on the same page. Sure, you probably have to be proactive with this company, but you should know that going into it. I was available to be onsite during the installation so no miscommunications or mistakes happened. Looking at another reviewer's complaint that the fence was installed "2 feet into the property" just shows that she should have present during the staking of the property of the day of installation. It is easy to have discrepancies with a fence install, it is the consumer's responsibility to do everything he/she can to keep that from happening. I'd definitely recommend Long Fence in the DC area to anybody that knows what they want. read more

If you want frustration and a long, drawn-out process, choose Long Fence! Never notified me of when they planned to do the fence install. When the two non-English speaking installers arrived, they started digging on the wrong side of the yard, destroying plants and other items in the area. After I ran out of the house yelling for them to stop, they finally moved on to the correct location. Install went OK, however the boards for the board and batten fence were all different lengths. To make it appear the same, they just piled dirt up on the bottom of the fence. When I called the office, they said they weren't even supposed to be out there that day. I was told that a supervisor would arrive onsite. When they were finished and asked for payment, and I refused, I was then told that no supervisor would be there. I refused to pay the balance until I was satisfied....which I still am not. Almost three months later and the fence issues are still not resolved. I have to be the one to constantly call them to find out the status. They always claim they don't have the correct number, etc. I am so frustrated with Long Fence. I have no confidence that any other job they would do would be any better. Even if they are cheaper, don't go with them unless you want a shoddy job and loads of frustration. Six months later and I just got a bill with only $150 off. Apparently their billing department is horrible too. Once again, do not use Long Fence for your fencing needs. You will be disappointed, out a lot of money, have wasted hours of your time, and be unhappy with the finished product with poor customer service. read more

DO NOT USE. Nightmare experience. Fence fell down after 2 weeks and our dog ran away. Scheduling I submitted our signed quote to Long Fence on April 4. Per that document, work was to begin in approximately 4-6 weeks. When that period passed, I reached out to Long Fence only to learn that our materials had not yet been ordered and the paperwork was apparently overlooked due to retirement of a salesperson. I was assured by the manager that our fence would begin construction in no more than 2 weeks. When that time came and went, I again called Long Fence and was told, again, that the fence was not ready and would not be ready for another 2 weeks, at least. At that time, I was offered a $400 credit for the delay. The final bill did not reflect this discount. Construction Without seeking our permission or input, the construction crew dumped dirt, stones, and concrete pieces at the steps of our deck, killing our brand new grass (our home was just built and sod was placed at the time of construction). They also dumped that mixture around the border of our yard, killing the grass in those locations, and all throughout the edge of our deck. It killed our grass and damaged our lawnmower, which we had to replace. We will now have to bear the cost of remediating the yard. Less than a month after the fence was constructed, an entire section of the fence fell down during a rain. The sales rep came out and reported that the fence was made incorrectly. As a result, the fence fell down and our dog escaped the yard. My husband and I spent hours in the pitch black searching for him, sure he was gone or had been hit by a car. Fortunately, he was found after several hours, but the intervening hours were horrible and entirely caused by their crews' negligence. The Long Fence crew has repeatedly come onto our property without our consent after we told them not to be on the property without our permission. Customer Service We have requested a revision to our final bill due to the many problems, the damage caused to our property, the cost of replacing our lawnmower, and the night spent in the rain searching for our missing dog. The manager offered an amount that was less than what is cost to replace our lawnmower. The sales rep and quality assurance rep were professional and polite. Everyone else has been unprofessional, abrupt, and rude. We chose Long Fence because it was a nationwide company with a good reputation. This has been an absolute and ongoing nightmare. read more

We recently hired Long Fence to extend the fence in our backyard to include the rest of our property. First I'll say that I'm happy with the fence and the work done. There was some initial rescheduling of the work but that wasn't a big deal for us as it was an urgent project. I did get a little nervous when the crew showed up and started asking ME questions about how to do the fence...but telling them to figure it out seemed to work! My one complaint is that the invoice said "please give payment to foreman upon completion". I don't really like doing that but I did it, and sure enough weeks later we're contacted saying the check was "lost" and that we needed to resend payment. I just found that unprofessional plus I don't like having checks go "missing"! read more

This has got to be the worst experience I have ever had. BUYER BEWARE. The company's salesperson 'Jim' came out to the house a couple of times to do the estimate. From the first quote to the second, I took out about 50 linear feet, took out 6x6 posts, and still am expected to pay $70 per linear foot. These people then didn't come to install for about three weeks. Three contractors came and did a C quality job, actually leaving a gap between the fences that joined an older neighbors fence, lopped way too much off the posts, so that now the fence is wobbly. Not to mention that they tore out a neighbors chain-link fence, and then put it back on with plastic ties, and it's completely warped and not threaded back through the posts. I found out that the salesperson, after six weeks of saying he was coming back to do the repairs, had never let anyone in the AR department know, and of course they start pinging me for payment on a shoddy, crappy install. I'm in process, but will probably just have the entire fence removed at this point. I am very disappointed. Word to the wise. LONG FENCE is not what it once was! read more

Worst experience and super low quality product. Years ago, I purchased both a chain link fence and an "iron fence" that was actually just a black coated steel with hollow metal tube posts. The chain link fence post for the gate was not secured into the ground and the fence gate leans & difficult to open. Two of the "iron" metal tube posts have rusted almost all the way through and now needs to be repaired before the posts break off at the ground. Long will not respond to my repair inquiry. Their original installation of the "iron" fence was cooked and had to be reinstalled. Required an extraordinary amount of painful phone calls begging them to reinstall their crooked "iron" fence. read more

It's rare for me to find a place that earns a five-star rating nowadays. However, Long Fence seriously knocked it out of the park on our home fence this past year. We had a great wooden fence installed last year. No drama. No problems with the install. Great product. Winter comes and goes and, nature being what it is, a few boards expanded, contracted, etc. One of the two gates became a bear to open and close. Unfortunately, life got away from us, and we waited just over a year from initial install to call in the issues. Cindy in customer relations didn't even blink. She got a supervisor out within two days who marked a number of boards for replacement, including a couple of the main, big heavy posts. A week later, two gentlemen were in the backyard replacing them. They honored the warranty even though we were a week over the limit. That's incredibly rare. Today, Cindy called just to ensure we were happy. Who does that? Long Fence, apparently. They've secured my business for as long as I live in NoVA, hands down. Our salesperson Ken Shoup was terrible. After selling us on the fact that Long Fence has experience with historic properties (we live in a historic district), Ken was unable to provide us any kind of information on the status of our materials or when the job would be done. Ken said that he had "worked on George Washington's house in Mount Vernon" and was an expert on "restoration specialization". The man who finally came out removed all the old railings but could not install the new railings due to the issues on our historic property. The only thing that saved the day was for the manager, Bubba, to refund us our money. We hired another company after several weeks to get the job done. That company provided me an estimate of $1,200 -- outrageous. My wife and I reached out to other area Fence Company's and it got us two things....diddly...and squat! The customer service was bad to mediocre at best. The last company I called was Long Fence...I wish it had been my first. I called and scheduled an appointment with the Long Fence representative. Adam Thompson showed up at our house with a firm handshake and a smile. He was professional, easy to talk to, and acted like he really wanted our business. He took plenty of time to answer all our questions regarding fencing options and prices. This brother provided "Hall of Fame" customer service. Make no mistake, it was the customer service delivered by Adam that made the difference and had us signing on the dotted line. The workers arrived to install our fence on one of the hottest days of the summer. I was concerned about the high temperatures (high 90's) and ridiculous humidity (over 100%). Three men showed up for the job. They rocked and rolled from the minute they arrived. These were three of the hardest working dudes I've ever seen in my life. Their work ethic was as solid as the rocks they had to dig down through to get to proper depth for fence post. Each had a specific role in the project and each executed flawlessly. They were professional, courteous and their end product was fantastic. As the saying goes, "you can lose with good players, but you can't win without them." Long Fence company is winning. The posts are broken and there is black mold growing on one of them - inferior wood was installed. I had LF quote our very simple fence project and was not at all impressed. We used LF three years ago at a different home and were really pleased with the cost and quality. This time around was the exact opposite. The representative was on-time and friendly on-site. We agreed that he would send a quote the next morning. When I did not get a quote by that afternoon I emailed him and he said that he was too busy with personal things to get to my quote and would get it to me early the following week. Very unprofessional. I had the job quoted by two other contractors and this simple fence installation was quoted by LF at $1,200 over their competitiors. Lack of communication and customer service. My husband and I signed up to have a new fence installed around our property. It took 3-4 weeks before they could schedule a crew to come out. When they attempted to reach us they did it through my email. Therefore it wasn't like they were really trying to reach me. Prior to that it was nothing but crickets no one called to check in or anything. It was almost like they took my money and ran. The day of the install comes around and not an hour into things they busted my water line. It was in the contract that if it was a private utility it would be the homeowners responsibility to mark. That fine print was on the back of the contract in tiny print. So needless to say they didn't fix the line. In fact the office had no idea until I called them that there was an incident on my property. Told me they would call me back to let me know what they could do. So I waited for a phone call and didn't get one until after 3pm telling me there was nothing they could do to help us and recommended that we call a plumber. So your crew gets to my house at 8:30 and damages my water line, you wait to call me back after 3pm and advise me to call a plumber. Do they even realize that to call someone that late in the afternoon would cost me twice as much as if they would have just told me 10am that I needed to call a plumber! Being that we had set all the funds aside for this fence project we couldn't spend too much more on getting a plumber at my house. Not to mention the fence crew was there until 6pm and the plumber wouldn't be able to access the line with them in the way. So I missed another day of work and got a plumber out to my property the next day to resolve the water line. Up until that point we had no water in the house. Upon my arrival home the day of the install I decided to walk the perimeter to see if there was any other concerns and to make sure the quality was up to par and my dogs wouldn't be able to get out. To my surprise I look over into the woods and what do I see but my lawn mower!! Apparently the mower was in the direct line of the fence so they took it upon themselves to flip my mower on it's side on the opposite side of the yard and fence. That's right, my lawn mower was on it's side in the woods. I called Long Fence to once again voice my compliant about my property and they said they would call me back. This was two weeks ago and here I am listening to the sound of crickets. I emailed their corporate office and main office again and I very well doubt I will hear anything. In short, their communication or lack there of is disturbing for a large branded company such as theirs. There should be more formal communication and their customer service is not done in a timely manner either. I'm so disappointed in the whole experience. I'm really upset that I choose them and do not recommend. I just hear horror stories about the company and how they just ride things out because they have the legal team to support them. read more

Our experience could not be more different than some fellow Yelpers... - We buy a new house and drive Hwy 50 looking for lighting, Home Depot, and fencing. We see Long Fence and stop in. They're closed...but a worker on his way to the warehouse sees us disappointed and walks over to unlock the front door...because not everybody is gone yet. - Cindy is still there. She instantly gets hold of Adam...who, amazingly, is at our house a short while later to measure and quote a fence. I'm so impressed we make a deal on the spot. - Later that night I check Yelp. Holy smoke. Even though we've made a deal (and a deposit) I call Adam and cancel. He is the picture of class. I was not. - Further research with neighbors indicates there are better deals to be had. So I call around for 3 separate quotes. A month goes by, and when the last quote is finally in it's clear we should've stuck with our original appreciation for LF's excellent service. - Adam is there for us again, despite my 'Hurry...no, forget it...OK, we need it now!'. He and Cindy stick close on scheduling despite my poor availability. Ultimately we set a super-close install date that works for my schedule. - Great team shows up right on time and impressively constructs our fence while answering my questions, consulting with me and advising tweaks to my plan...all of which I'm glad I accepted. And the clincher...our cedar fence is gorgeous! Surrounding...and also new...cedar fences are knotty and burred. Ours is smooth, perfectly linear, and (currently) pink-ish. How often is a fence just awesome to look at? I promised the HOA to paint it...but it'd be a shame to cover it up. Adam, Cindy, and the rest of the LF crew...thank you! Get multiple quotes from multiple fence contractors! Seriously, if you don't you will waste your precious MONEY! Our fence was approx 53 linear feet total, 2 gates, scalloped (mt vernon dip). Pressure treated pine boards. Long Fence's initial quote was $2,100 but THEN they had "deals"....hahahahahaha. That brought their price down to $1,700. OMG, what a savings!!!! Now the fence would cost $32.00 a linear foot. GET ANOTHER QUOTE The company which I went with came out and gave me a price of just under $800.00 for the exact same materials, warranty, but upgraded the gate posts to 6x6's (LF was only going to do 4x4's). There was some miscommunication in style of fence after day 1 install; however, Skylar and team addressed concerns quickly and corrected without any issues or finger pointing. Horrible experience all around. I got an estimate to install black iron hand railings, which seemed extremely high. The iron railing was supposed to be more durable because of the powder coating. They installed the railing about six weeks later. There was rust on just about every piece of railing from the start. Not to mention they damaged my house in several places. It has now been going on about 5 weeks with no resolution yet. They are unresponsive. Completely horrible quality of product and even worse service. Avoid them at all cost, you will regret it! read more

We had a new section to our existing fence added in June. I found that a section of the upper part of the fence (lattice) was not nailed in correctly. So it will move if you just touch it. Very disappointed in the customer service of this company. Called them to get a quote for a fence in our backyard, they very promptly came out, gave us a quote. We then said we'd like to proceed with installation. Six weeks passed, despite repeated inquiries over phone and email, our assigned person never contacted us. We finally escalated to his management, who promised to make it right. Instead, they came back and said the quote we received was no longer valid and that prices have gone up "20-30%" in the last six weeks. If this isn't extortion, I don't know what is. I knew when it was time, I really wanted a Long Fence because of the outstanding craftsmanship I always see when I see one of the metal long fence signs that they put on the outside when they are done. This year was the year to finally get our fence! We decided to do it up and get the deck and a patio too -- all done by long fence. Who knew! Our sales associate was Adam Thompson. He came out, took some measurements and helped us select the options that would suit our family best. We decided on a picture frame fence, a deck, and a patio. They called to set up the date for our fence. The team was out and installed the fence in one day! The quality and style was all that I had hoped. Next up was the deck. First they came to dig for the posts. The holes seemed to go on forever--I knew this thing was going to be solid. We had our neighbors over that weekend and they couldn't believe the attention to detail. They said it was the most solid deck they had ever seen, and we agreed. Finally was the patio. I knew I would be spending most of my time there so I wanted it plenty big! They had to build up one of the sides with paver blocks to accommodate for the slightly sloped lot. It's big enough for me to put two outdoor dining sets. I love it! I know I will be spending my whole summer out there and every spring, summer, and fall from here on out. Our back yard is amazing. We contracted with them in Feb. 2017. I wish I had read previous reviews first! For some reason I had always trusted their work based only on preconceived notions. Was I ever wrong. The sales person, James Thompson, was very polite and knowledgeable but that was where it ended. Once the documents were signed, he was gone but did promise to be present when the work started. Wrong, he never showed once during the two day install. Getting the work scheduled was a chore on my part. I had to argue with the scheduling lady that we, in fact, had contracted and paid $6000 up front, to prove we were actually a customer waiting versus a new prospect. She found our paperwork and offered to send a crew out. The crew arrived, did the job, but left crap everywhere. I did the cleanup! They wrongfully removed part of an existing connecting fence and left no "Long Fence" metal fence logo, that I brought to their attention, as well as James Thompson. Only when I called his cell to complain, he came out to meet me and heard my concerns and agreed and said he would get a crew to return to fix it. I also learned at that time, the crew that serviced us was not a Long crew. They were a subcontractor for Long. Since February (5 months later), no one has called or come by. I went to Lowes and bought the needed wood and did the repairs myself, including recurving the gates to not look so uneven. Bottom line- DON'T bother with these people! They are terrible! I paid $12,000 for a fence that I probably could have had done for a lot less. My fault...this time. read more

I wish I would have checked their yelp reviews before selecting Long Fence to install my fence. If I could give them 0 stars I would. They were 1 of 3 estimates I got to do the job. One of the others was Triple K, whom I didn't select for the obvious reason. The other I don't remember because it's been so long since I got these estimates, which I'll get to in the time line shortly. On August 4, 2020 I agreed to terms with Long Fence who price matched the lowest price estimate, cool. Ordered materials that day and the project start date was to be 4-6 weeks from then. After 5 weeks I called to see when they would be starting the installation and I was told due to covid19 their vinyl distributor was behind and it would be another week or two. Those 4-6 weeks passed TWO TIMES OVER, and not once did did they initiate contact to let me know the schedule change. November 1, 2020 I call to be told we have your material, we can get you installed tomorrow. Well thanks for the heads-up! We agreed to go on November 4. A third party contractor shows up with a language barrier, we can't understand one another, so I get my neighbor who's fencing has already been installed for 3 years at this point to translate. My neighbor tells me the contractor says his fencing is over the property line to the rear of his property and insist on installing my fencing on what he believes is the correct line, he has the property survey plot in hand and still insist its wrong. Installed the fence and didn't complete the job! A total of 106' of fence and wa short approximately 8' because he was 1 post short. Called for the salesman to come back and see what has been done. Agreed to complete and move fencing back to the correct property line, it will take 1-2 weeks for the post and additional material to come in. They didn't come back to correct and complete the project until December 28, 2020. 7 WEEKS after the start, and 5 MONTH after the original contract agreement. FOR 106' FEET OF FENCE AND 2 GATES! Jeez...I wish these reviews were posted 10-15 years ago, when I had Long Fence install a chain link fence around my back yard. The crew that came out did not speak English, I speak enough Spanish to request they reinforce the bottom of the fence, because I have dogs that could easily push through the bottom of the fence. They used a thin wire to "accommodate my request". Also, instead of replacing the gate between my yard & my driveway (which was included in the contract that I signed), they put more chain link. When I called the company, I was told it would be corrected within a few days. A week later, I called back & got the same song & dance about they were waiting for my gate to be delivered to them. A couple of days later, I was FED UP!!! I called again. I told them that I could go to Lowes or Home Depot to get the material to do it myself, but I had paid for them to do it!! It seems that a good cursing out was a bit of a motivator, the next day, my gate was installed. Since then, the fence is no longer true vertical (the posts are, but not the chain link). The whole fence, except the gates is bowed out, allowing the dogs to easily escape the yard. I never contacted the company, I had no faith that they would reinforce the bottom as I had requested, and no faith that they would't charge me extra for it. I have tried several different methods to do this myself, but the fence is not strong enough to stay close to the ground. There is also a gap between the house and a gate that allows my new small (25 pound) dog to easily slip through. The kicker that got me post this is that now a gate's latch will not move enough to secure the gate. I will have to permanently secure this gate & not be able to use it. I know it's been many years, but the 3 foot fence I had replaced (because the dogs could jump over it) was in great condition. A quality product should be able to withstand the conditions it was designed for. read more

after a year has passed they warrantied some boards I marked and did a few extra that I missed..Jonathan delivered on all his promises and fence looks great..I will use long fence again in the future..maybe a patio soon read more
