We called around, and the team at Long Dog Fat Cat was fantastic. They let us know what they had, made sure they fit our dog, and held them for us as we drove across town to buy them. The store has a ton of great items for your furry housemate. And, bringing your dog in is welcomed. We found some nice treats and our dog boots. Got the 4" birthday cake for my dog this week and it was perfect! The size was just right for him as he isn't a big eater and I didn't know how he would feel about it. He loved the frosting which was peanut butter. When you are ordering you get to choose what kind of frosting and kind of cake you want which is great. I got a banana cake then with peanut butter frosting and ghost loved it. I will keep getting him cakes here every year! The staff was great also! We were looking for somewhere new to get our bichon frise Westley groomed and came across Long Dog Fat Cat. We live nearby but had never been in the store. They were able to get Westley in for an appointment within the week, which was wonderful. We are always a little nervous to get him groomed at new places because we have had a few bad experiences, but we were SO pleased with his cut! I've been to LDFC several times now, and have yet to have anything less than a stellar experience. They carry a large selection of pet foods that are hard to find elsewhere, especially at big box retailers. This last visit, I needed help because I'm transitioning my dog to a (partially) raw diet. The employee greeted me immediately upon entering the store and asked if I needed anything. When I explained what I was looking for, he immediately invited me to follow him to the area of the store with the raw options. He proceeded to walk me through the various brands and types, asking me questions along the way to point me in the right direction. I was very impressed with how knowledgeable and professional he was The products I did purchase are high-quality and not as expensive as I had expected. I also like the interior set up of the store. Although it's a small space, they've organized it well. There are so many fun things to look at from homemade treats and jerky to collars and leashes to toys. They have a membership program that gives you 3% off your purchase every time. Sign up! Also love that they host many meet and greets for the various animal rescues in town. read more

I just had a very bad experience with this place! Six weeks ago, we had our dog groomed there. The groomer did not do that great of job so I called to complain. I told them I would keep the next appointment because I wanted to give her another chance. With the next time being that I would be more specific as to what kind of cut we wanted. Fast forward to today. I had a 2:30 appointment. They did not have it on their calendar because that groomer quit. Rather then calling me to tell me what happened, they erased the appointment from their schedule. He looked at me very puzzled. I still had the scheduled appointment on my phone so I showed it to him. Well, we don't have a groomer here today. Not a sorry for the confusion. No apology. Nothing! I will never go back there. Poorly managed. We are having a party tomorrow night at our house. I was counting on getting him groomed! So I drove over to Pet's Earth and they were able to work our dog in. VERY DISAPPOINTED is an understatement. Wish I could give this place negative stars! I buy my dog food here because it is the cheapest place in town. Decided to purchase a dog cake for my English Mastiff that we adopted from the Humane Society 1 year ago. An anniversary cake if you will. Long story short they "lost" my order so when I arrived to pick up my cake it was no where to be found. The Manger acted as if nothing happened and basically I was S.O.L. Yes I take my dogs a little too serious at times and treat them as my children but seriously at least have a little compassion and TRY to fix the problem. I am so impressed! My two pups (little over 1 year old) have never gotten a real haircut (except for my poor attempts at home) and I felt they needed a little sprucing up for spring. They were SUPER fluffy. I was almost more nervous to take them to the groomer than when I took them in for their spay procedure. Weird. I know. These dogs are stubborn though and I was worried they wouldn't cooperate and would end up just getting a buzz cut because they wouldn't sit still for the brushing part. Dog mom anxiety! I set up an appointment about 1.5 weeks ago since I had the day off yesterday. I'm happy that scheduling worked out. Walking into the shop, the pups were barking a little and might have growled at the poor groomer at first! Stephen was our groomer that day (I'm not sure if he's the only groomer there) and let me tell you he is good with dogs! When I am around my little dogs have little dog syndrome and get weird when other people approach us. Stephen walked right up and had a very calm presence and knelt down to greet Franny and Ginger. I explained that I wanted a schnauzer cut for them and he told me he's done lots of these cuts so I felt good about his expertise with this style. I was given an estimated time for duration of the appointment (which he was pretty spot on). I left and did a little shopping at village pointe. About a half hour later Stephen texted me and asked if I wanted their skirt much shorter than it was already. How nice and helpful to ask that. I had no preference so asked him to just do what he thought looked best. I came back to the shop a little early and just looked around at the pet products in there. Franny and Ginger came out looking so cute! I hardly recognized them from their former fluffy selves! Stephen was nice enough to pose for a picture with them and I could tell they were feeling comfortable with him since he was able to pick them up again even with me standing there. Overall great experience! OH, and the price is great for how well they take care of the dogs and for being such a little shop. Highly recommend! read more

They had my high end hard to find dog food here!! I do a lot of research on dog foods and all the foods they carry are top quality brands. Please, don't buy grocery store brands that put garbage into dog or cat foods. Even petco or petsmart sell so so brands. Why not support small local businesses? Ive always loved my small specialty pet food shops and this place is my new go to. Go for higher quality ingredients with more protein and less grains. My dog's skin and fur has never been softer. We have been using a couple different locations for grooming and not overly pleased with the cuts for our dog, but appreciated the service so we continued...until our last visit. This was at the Loveland location last week. The visit was 15 minutes behind due to the last appointment; unfortunately our dog was rushed in his appointment (we are doubting equipment was sanitized in-between). Fast forward to 8 days later and we are dealing with a very sick pet. Our dog has kennel cough and expensive vet bills. Our dog has NOT had any contact with other dogs whatsoever, is current on his shots including Bordetella; the only contact with other dogs was at the Loveland location for grooming. We even were encouraged by our vet to call and let the grooming location know. When we called and spoke with the Loveland location manager who said "that sucks" and said our dog could have gotten it from anywhere - true, but not our dog that is only around us. Her flippant attitude was not encouraging, but she referred us to the grooming manager. We then spoke with the grooming manager and discussed what happened. She said she would look into what happened and get back to us in a few days. Today she called and said there is no way that our dog got kennel cough from that location, because she spoke to the groomer and they apparently cleaned their equipment and also spoke with another client whose dog does not have kennel cough. Obviously, there are more than two dogs at a grooming location throughout a day and kennel cough is also transmitted through the air, so we are very suspect. When I relayed this information to the grooming manager, I was dismissed in what I believe and that in no way our dog could have gotten this from them. I was also told that I was "trying to get something for free" and that she had considered a refund, but now was not and I was promptly hung up on. I called back and left her a voice message stating I was in fact very offended and upset at the lack of professionalism. A simple apology and taking ownership of the issue would have sufficed. Unfortunately, we will not use them for any future grooming or any retail services. read more

I went to LDFC for the first time today. My first impression was "Wow, there is a LOT of stuff in here". After the employee finished with her customer, she asked me right away if I needed assistance, and I did. I told her we were adopting a puppy, and the breeder recommended we get a "rolled leather collar" 16" to 18". I really didn't know what that was. The employee says right away "you must be getting a dog with long hair. This type of collar does't pull their fur as much". What!!! That gave me confidence she didn't just work there, but knew her stuff. They didn't have a collar in the right size, so you know what she did? Took my name and number, looked online and in a catalog with me, and said she'd order one in every color and call me when she gets them. Are you kidding me???? GREAT customer service!!!!! I also have two Maine Coon kittens and I feed them a raw diet. I was blown away by the variety of frozen raw foods they offer (they are getting additional freezers because they sell so much). She showed me where they keep Nature's Variety and told me what options they have. I also spoke to the groomer who gave me some good information. She also impressed me because she said a few key things.... she said she learns the dog, and SHE changes the way she approaches each dog to meet the dogs needs. I feel like she has the right attitude. I also heard her talking to a customer who just picking up a groom dog who was "difficult" (the dog, not the customer) and was impressed with how she interacted with the customer and explained what she did this time to gain the dogs trust and get the job done. I did take some time and looked around. I was a little overwhelmed by all the things they offer. I've been to a lot of stores and they definitely had toys, leashes, etc I didn't see anywhere else. The only negative? They need a bigger store. Really, please consider a bigger space. The aisles are very narrow and packed. It's hard to take it all in. :) I definitely recommend this place. I hope my next visit is just as good. read more

I'm one of those crazy folks who decided to adopt the most needy dog at the humane society. You know, the one who's super cute and super friendly but has a bazillion allergies and health issues so you can't just hop over to the big box pet store or grocery to buy food. So, of course, we love LDFC and their selection of specialty pet products. What we (when I say "we", I mean my dog) love the most - the selection of super fun treats like dried salmon skin and deer antler and trachea. For our dog, a trip to LDFC is like a fat kid's visit to Wonkaland. If you're looking for natural pet food without an ingredient list that makes a twinkie look like a health food, then pop into LDFC. I had a sick cat who needed special organic, wheat-free, grain-free food and Long Dog Fat Cat had the perfect stuff in 12 different kinds. Plus they have all different toys which have been a hit at our house all well. Long Dog Fat Cat also sponsors resuce events and supports pet resuces which is wonderful and heartwarming. I stopped into the store with my dog to get a couple of bully sticks. I walked up to the counter to pay. We were in the store just a few minutes and the manager of the store insisted that my dog urinated on some of the dog treats that he had on the floor. He forced me to pay for the treats that she supposedly urinated on ($18.00 worth). He picked up the items splashing me with urine. I was frightened as he was so angry and I was the only one in the store. I am 62 years old was afraid not to purchase the items. read more

I went in looking for a better quality food for my German Shepherd puppy. The other "premium blue labes foodsl" from a big box pet store didn't agree with her stomach. I was recommended a brand I have been reading online thats gotten great reviews as far as quality and ease of digestion. We will see how things go. Prices were more than competitive vs going online which some things are just better to get in town. I will be going back for future purchase and hopefully more puppy food!
