What's there to complain about? Nothing. I got a quote on the phone, they came over for a free consultation/estimation. This is great, I don't want to pay $85-$100 just for someone to come a take a look at my garage for 5 minutes. I think this consultation fee is mainly to get people into using the business. I had been looking to replace a 15yr old water softener system with a clack control head. My first quote from another vendor was over $4k. Next, their employees are wonderful! I first spoke with Harry, who answered my questions thoroughly. He told me he'd like to send someone to take a look at our house before giving a quote on installing a plumbing loop, in order to give the most accurate price. Unlike another local company, Lone Star does NOT charge to provide an estimate. Free estimate, no strings attached! Additionally, rather than sending a "tech" to our home, Harry sent out Russell, a licensed plumber. Russel was able to locate our plumbing in the attic, and therefore avoid trenching our yard to add a plumbing loop. This not only saved money, but it also kept us from having to ruin our lawn and gardens! I was so impressed with both Harry and Russell's professionalism and friendliness that I chose to hire them. My wife has been waging an all out war against hard water stains, especially when we lived in Hawai'i. She has trained me to squeegee water off our glass shower enclosure after showers and to wipe beads of water off bathroom and kitchen counters. She has used various commercial and homemade concoctions to combat these insidious hard water stains but it has been a losing battle...until perhaps now. Having moved to the Texas Hill Country where the water hardness level is between 14.4-18 grains per gallon, we knew we had a challenge at hand. With the Hill Country sitting on limestones and with hard water resulting from water percolating through deposits of limestone and chalk which are largely made up of calcium and magnesium carbonates, we resolved to tackle the main culprit...hard water itself. So I got on the Interweb and researched requirements for our household, what control valves to look for, solicited feedback from neighbors who've installed water softeners, and then finally on to Yelp to narrow my search for a trustworthy and quality company to install our water softener system. My research led me to Lone Star Water Services. I contacted Garrett months before we moved into our new construction home and in doing so, was able to take advantage of 2018 discounts for the system with 32k grain (suitable for households of up to 4 people) Water Softener with Clack valves, Carbon Filter and Reverse Osmosis (RO). Our builder for some reason was unable to drill a hole about 1" in diameter through the countertop for the RO spigot so Garrett provided some recommended plumbers who can perform the job. However, after getting seemingly outrageous quotes of up to $250 for no more than a 5-minute job to drill an inch hole through a quartz countertop, we opted to forgo the RO system and Garrett understood and adjusted the price. When it came time for the installation, Garrett remained flexible with our tight schedule and he installed the system in no time flat. In addition to the Water Softener, Carbon Filter, and Salt basin, he installed a water shutoff valve (to easily shutoff all water going into the house while allowing the sprinkler system to remain active) as well as a soft water spigot for using soft water to wash vehicles with. All in all, a very pleasant and stress free experience dealing with Garrett. Professional, responsive, thorough, and friendly, we would not hesitate to highly recommend him to family, friends and neighbors. Notes: - Fleck, Clack and Autotrol valves are the most popular non-proprietary valves (unlike Culligan or Kinetico which uses proprietary parts). Lone Star sells Clack systems but can install Fleck systems normally available online - The water softener can use potassium chloride pellets instead of salt for those highly sensitive to or concerned about salt intake. Potassium Chloride is a lot more expensive than salt pellets, however, and there's a miniscule amount of salt that gets into the soft water that it's negligible. - We had a soft water loop installed by the builder making the installation a snap. For those without a soft water loop, the installation would be lengthier and more involved. Make sure there's a power source where your soft water loop is. - For planning purposes, a 50-lb bag of salt lasts about a month and the salt basin we have holds up to 3 50-lb bags of salt. read more

Very impressed with Garrett and Lone Star. We ended up getting a softener and whole house filter. I received quotes from 6 companies for Water Softeners. This was not the cheapest system, but it was not the most expensive. The cheap systems seemed just that, cheap. They asked me to get several bags of morton salt pellets which was good advice because when they checked, my unit was completely out of salt! Russell was on time, responsive, and loaded the salt and checked my system. He helped me understand how to manage the system as well. So glad to know a professional reliable company to work with!!! Straightforward with no sales gimmicks. I love it! Built a new house in Leander and needed a water system. Very knowledgeable and didn't try to up-sell. They use one type of system due to its reliability and to keep things simple. I appreciate that. I hate having too many options. Also explained that it doesn't matter what the sqft of your house is or how many people live there (unless you have a crazy amount) the system regenerates after a certain number of gallons are used so, a bigger system just means it regenerates less but doesn't provide any other benefit. (Other companies had tried to up-sell us on a larger system due to the sqft of our home even though it's just the 3 of us.) Install took about 30minutes, even texted the next day with recommendations on which salt pellets to use and where to get them for the best price. We've been using our system for 5 months now and no issues at all. Equipment has a long warranty and they even come out yearly to do PM on it for free for 5 or 7 years (can't exactly remember).
