I visited Prosper Family Eyecare as a walk in for medical care for my left eye and learned a valuable lesson. There is a BIG difference between an Optometrist and an Ophthalmologist. An optometrist IS NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR and is not qualified to assess anything other than sight testing and management of general vision changes. If you are in need of glasses or general vision then this is what an optometrist is qualified to assist you with. However, if you are in need of medical attention for your eye then you need to see an ophthalmologist (a medical doctor) with experience diagnosing and treating eye and vision conditions. What is disappointing is that Prosper Family Eye care accepts walk-ins to treat issues beyond the scope of what they are qualified to access as there are no medical doctors (Ophthalmologist) at this facility i.e. they are Optometrist. I called and set an appointment to go in due to having serious discomfort in my left eye, bloodshot, increased sensitivity to light, poor vision. This office does not bill insurance so the out of pocket is $155. I came in for a foreign object or debris in my eye yet during my visit my eye was not flushed out. Other than a general eye exam I was prescribed Tobramycin and sent on my way. During my visit, the affects and dangers of Tobramycin were not explained. There are serious complications of this medicine, blurred vision, blindness etc. This medication is to treat bacterial infections, it will do nothing for a viral infection and will only make it worse. It is imperative that a proper evaluation of the eye is done to be sure the infection is bacterial to prevent the eye from regressing further. What I find especially troubling is how an Optometrist (not a Medical Doctor) can prescribe this medication for a patient with a medical concern. Optometrist should not be prescribing this type of medication unless it is related to a patient experiencing an infection from a contact lens or something of that nature within their general scope of practice. Prescribing this medication to a patient with a medical concern unrelated to general vision issues is something only a Ophthalmologists (medical doctor) is truly qualified to do. Bottomline, if you have a medical issue with your eye that is unrelated to wearing glasses or contact lenses then spend your money to go see an actual M.D., an Ophthalmologist. Even Proper Family Eyecare won't refute this, as after they took my $155 and failed to treat me properly they simply referred me to an Ophthalmologist so I could get proper treatment. #LessonLearned

With my constantly changing work schedule, I slipped in for an appointment at a local "Costco-adjacent" optometrist. The office was clean, the equipment was high-tech, and the doctor's spiel was a little tired and monotone...but hey, I just needed an eye exam. Got my prescription, and Costco made me two pairs of progressives and one pair of fixed-distance glasses. Fast-forward six weeks: still having consistent headaches and eye fatigue. Enter SocialEyes Prosper and Dr. Dugas. I started calling around trying to find a private practice that could somehow get me in the same day. I really didn't expect that to happen, but SocialEyes was able to squeeze me into Dr. Dugas's last appointment of the day. Fantastic customer service from the very first phone call. And the office staff didn't disappoint once I arrived--warm, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I actually learned more from the staff before my appointment even started about WHY I might be having issues with my new glasses. Then I met Dr. Dugas. No stilted spiel here! Conversation was easy, relaxed, and informative. She took her time with the eye exam, and we switched back and forth sooo many times to make sure I was confident in every choice. "Which one is clearer on the borders...1 or 2?" Back and forth. Again and again. No rushing. In the end, my prescription was different by "enough" that we agreed on a strategy to move forward and eliminate variables. New lenses arrive in about two weeks, and I'll keep you posted. Switalski Eye Care's staff is unhelpful and defensive when patients question their charges. Instead…read moreof verifying the charges, they became defensive and didn't bother to contact VSP. Despite my paying the full amount they asked for, they were still uncooperative and sent my trial lenses to me instead of calling to inform me of their arrival. This passive-aggressive act wasted my time. Along with the trial lenses the delivery also included a letter stating that I was being released from their care due to my arguing with them over their charges. The eye doctor recommended Bausch and Lomb lenses over the Coopervision contacts I'd been wearing since 2019. After trying both, I bought the B&L lenses, as they seemed to help my eyes refocus more quickly. However, a month later, the B&L lenses started causing a lot of eye irritation. Initially, I thought it was a problem with all the pollen flying around at the time. After a few weeks, I realized it was the B&L contact lenses what were the problem. I remembered that I had kept the Coopervision trial lenses. I made sure they were cleaned and disinfected. I wore them the next morning. There was no irritation. I wore them about 18 hours before removing them that night. They worked perfectly the whole time. I emailed Switalski about the problem, but received no response. I tried calling, but I was only able to reach an answering service. They transferred me to the clinic, but no one picked up. I called back a while later, and insisted on speaking to someone at Switalski, but they refused to take my call. Later, I received a prescription for Coopervision lenses in my email. They totally ignored the email I had sent them 2 days before explaining the problem. I told them that Eyeconic, the lens seller, would only exchange the lenses if I gave them a letter from the eye doctor. Switalski refused to provide the letter, stating that, "our office cannot issue a medical statement that contradicts our clinical documentation from January". Really? The documentation is so sacred that they can't update it with new information about the patient's condition? That's ridiculous and incompetent. They have totally refused to talk to me. I'm working on resetting my VSP benefit to buy Coopervision lenses again. My goal now is to make Switalski lose business. They are incompetent. DON'T GO THERE!

I walked into my appointment, and was greeted immediately and walked back to the room for the initial examination. It was quick! I then saw the doctor, who was a cool, bearded gentleman that spoke calmly, clearly, and answered all my questions. He even recommended products that he uses by pulling them up on the internet using a large screen for me to see. Eye examines are annual, maybe bi-annual appointments for me, but if I had the opportunity to go often, I would! She quickly gathered my insurance information over the phone and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. When I arrived, I was seen very quickly and spent less than 10 minutes in the waiting room before being taken back. Dr. Cole was absolutely amazing -- professional, kind, and incredibly efficient.
