I can't believe the lack of service here. Seated at a table and waited 5 or 6 minutes before deciding it might be faster to get dinner at the bar. Not sure if that was a good idea. Bartender is rarely behind the bar. Brought over chips and salsa, I had to get my own silverware and napkin. The salsa is impossible to scoop out of the tiny cup onto a chip. Dinner served, still no bartender. Still no "how's your meal, can I get you anything". Someone from the kitchen came out to offer a $10 off next time for the long wait. On the bright side, the Southwest Salad with Chicken was tasty. Really can't believe it. Completed meal, empty plates siting here and nothing. Not even anything else? I had to stand up and put my jacket on to get the check. My family and I are big fans of the Lone Star, and since the Ottawa-based chain has been open, we've been to locations around the GTA and beyond, including Whitby, Pickering and Kingston locations. We've always been happy with the food here. The main attraction is the Fajitas! We often come on a Sunday and have the special, which feeds the three of us... You can have all the sides, including lettuce and pico de gallo and grilled peppers, among others. You also get plenty of fresh-baked tortillas. They are great! Upon entry we were asked to wait while the "Girl" on the door finished some paper work. She could not even lift her head when she spoke to us. I requested she look at me when she spoke to me and this seemed to confuse her. I had the rib/steak combo. Portion was skimpy. Ribs were very good, what there was of them. Steak was cooked as I asked and was tender but had a bit of an odd taste. The constant country music was too loud and to my utter amazement when I asked to have the volume reduced they actually did so. The atmosphere in this restaurant is really cool but the food not so great. We ordered nachos and a couple drinks what was brought to our table was quite disappointing. My short review: zzzzzzzz. The long(er) review: We came here at the request of my son, the birthday boy. I had ribs and wings. My wife had Cabo tacos. My son had a chicken fajita. And in one word: meh. Value for money is low. Even when you account for the free chips and salsa. Portion sizes are bigger on the side items, but small on the actual feature. My wife said the coleslaw tasted like "vinegar and vinyl". The free salsa tastes like boredom. The ribs and wings had different sauces on them, but I couldn't tell since they both tasted mostly of ketchup. The Cabo tacos were OK, but were still missing something. The overwhelming theme of the food at this restaurant is: bland. The waitress forgot my appetizer order entirely, but it wasn't a huge deal to me; I ordered onion rings to give them a try but at this point, I figure that'd have been a bust too. Other than that the service was fine. Horrible service. Took over 10mins to get seated, and the hostess was unapologetic. The floors are dirty and we had to wait for a table to be cleaned off to even be seated. Best restaurant experience we've had in a long time. We have an 18 month old girl who loved the food and the fun. Staff gave her stickers, crayons and dough balls to play with. She had so much fun and all the activities ensured she was on her best behaviour. The food was fantastic (burger and fajitas). The staff were great, we'll definitely be going back soon. I went to Lonestar Cambridge to celebrate my birthday on Saturday. The food was deplorable and the customer service to boot. The fajitas had dried out meat on nothing served with dried rice. There were 18 of us and half the food went back by the manager - she tried but it was still bad. Two burgers were burned while the onion rings weren't even fried - the batter was dripping off. The waitress sent back other staff to get my drink order straight because no one could remember what i ordered. Disgusting - will never return. Visited tonight at around 5pm, received a table in the dining room but had to ask for a waitress after 10mins. They gave me a larger margeurita to compensate for waiting. The chips and salsa are good. We ordered fajitas for 2, combined steak and chicken. Overall the score of 2/5 is because the fajita skillet was not hot, tortillas were dry around the edges, and the meat and onions seemed dry with unusually small portions compared to others. We received 3 tortillas to start and a tray of toppings for each of us. They will bring you more but the meal is getting cold by the time the waitress replenishes them. You end up eating the rice and beans while waiting. We will not make a point of returning for this type of service! read more

The wait was about what we expected for a Saturday night. The host seated us and spewed of the specials so quickly and quietly that no one at the table heard a single thing she said over the music, which was too loud to comfortably have a conversation. The dining room is fairly themey, but boring, particularly the area we sat in where tables for four are arranged in diamonds, like you might expect in a dive bar, or a bad independent resto. The food is mediocre and bland. We ordered the Fajita Fiesta for four. The chicken and steak definitely taste like mesquite, but not much else. The steak was tough and chewy. The shrimp were very, very bland. The ribs were the definite winner, but under sauced. The "unlimited fixin's" (bland rice, overly mesquite-y beans, flavourless "cheddar", sour cream, wet iceberg lettuce and about a teaspoon of pico de gallo) weren't quite unlimited since the original serving was far too little for four people, and the service was incredibly inattentive. Our waitress "Louisiana" (who admitted it was a fake name without even being asked), only came to the table once during the meal and only after we had run out of pretty much everything, including tortillas, which had brought the entire meal to a halt. Louisiana only bothered to ask if we wanted more tortillas. We had to specifically ask for the other items we wanted more of, including the two empty drinks on the table. I wouldn't recommend Lone Star, and I won't be returning. Montana's is a stone's throw away, has a similar menu and doesn't manage to get everything wrong. read more

I ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas. I have probably had fajitas in over 30 restaurants in my life and NEVER have I seen such a ridiculously small and pitiful portion size. The comical part is that they upcharge for steak, but I literally got grisly bits of not even three strips of steak and 4 tiny shrimp......like the size of a quarter small. Wish I had thought to take a picture. It was comical..... They brought 4 fajitas shells but there was barely enough filler for 2. They didn't even give barely any onions/peppers and how cheap are those to add? Didn't come out sizzling. Rice was cold and hard and had a weird, not fresh taste (inedible). Guacamole looked like toxic waste. Even the tortillas were doughy and uncooked (felt more like a pancake or crepe, weird). My daughter had the burrito which was meh at best. Sodas were 2/3's ice. Went for dinner with my son. We have been to this location a few times. Never great but usually ok. The chips and salsa are good (actually the best thing we had - the pre-appetizer). The service was slow - bordering on comical. We had some wings to start - and shared some fajitas. The wings were not very warm - but we weren't too worried because we had fajitas on the way - with a couple sides including guacamole. We also figured our drinks would arrive by the time our fajitas arrived too. Our fajitas arrived - smelled good. Still no drinks - and no guacamole. About 10 minutes later when our server popped by to ask how everything was (we didn't even mention that the meat was so tough it was almost inedible), we told her we still hadn't received our drinks or guacamole - and she left to get it - we thought. Our drinks came a few minutes later. The next time she checked in with us, we asked for a few more tortilla shells (we got 4 originally - which was ok). And we still wanted our missing guacamole. Maybe 10 or more minutes later, she asked if we wanted any more drinks - we asked for refills - and still wanted our tortillas and guacamole. The drinks came right away. Here is where it starts to get comical...10 minutes later - she came by and realized we still hadn't received our tortillas and guacamole - I told her not to bother because the food in front of us was now totally cold (had arrived about 40 minutes ago). She said sorry - brought us the bill with the guacamole still on it. Maybe the concept and idea is good - but this is a poorly run store with some very poor staff. On Friday January 4, 2013 my girlfriend and I had dinner at Lone Star Texas Grill in Cambridge, ON. Overall I am quite dissatisfied with the experience. Walking into the restaurant I stood in line waiting to speak with a hostess. There were at least 5 young ladies at the hostess desk however only one was actually taking names and writing them down on the clipboard. The other four were far less engaged. Two of them were happily talking amongst themselves with their backs turned to the front door and customer; one was busy flirting with a slightly older boy waiter; and one more gazing off into space. All of the hostesses could not have been older than 15 years old and was most likely their first job. Through all of this, not a single manger was in sight as the waiting area quickly filled to standing room only and spilled out the front door. Finally my name was called through a distorted microphone system which I can only imagine is trying to resemble the sound of a 1970 trucker's CB radio. Our waitress promptly greeted us with fresh salsa and tortilla chips. After giving us time to review the drink and dinner menus she took our drink and food orders. The tortilla chips on the top of the disk were extremely salty to the point of being inedible. The chips beneath the top layer were better and had less salt on them. My date had a strawberry daiquiri to drink and the New York Strip with vegetables and French fries. I had a Corona to drink and the back ribs with coleslaw and saddle beans. My date's meal was extremely disappointing. The steak was a brownish/grey color and looked like it was thawed from frozen in a microwave before being thrown on a grill to add some char marks. For a $27 steak, it was very disappointing. That however was not the worst part. The accompanying vegetables were so overly salted that you literally couldn't taste the flavor of the broccoli or red peppers. Similarly the fries were also overly salty. My ribs were good but nothing particularly special that you can't get at any number of other restaurants. The coleslaw on the other hand was coated in black pepper and salt and I couldn't eat it. Given our experience wth dinner we agreed that dessert was not needed. Over the course of our dinner there was never a single manager in sight. I would have expected much more for a $75 meal. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. For the money you would have a much better experience elsewhere. read more

I was very very disappointed and a little angry to be honest - I had been wanting to try this place since it opened and had high hopes. I ordered the burrito with chicken. It was very bland and quite frankly not much in it. No sense having a 12 inch tortilla if its just going to be rolled up 1/3 full. When I cut into it I mostly saw thick layers of empty folded tortilla with a little chicken cubed up (and again, no flavour to it )and filling along the one edge - could have fit the contents into a 6/9" one. Rice was dry and not terribly memorable. Refried beans had no real flavour - just a blob of brown with a tiny piece of half melted cheese on top. Sauce on top of burrito was so so - again not much flavour. Could have used some cilantro to give it at least some type of flavour. I am glad I finally went but I will NOT go back, nor will I recommend it to others. I've tasted better at the 2 Waterloo take out burrito places - at least you get a big burrito stuffed with yummy ingredients there. I am surprised of the poor comments on this page and don't believe we eat at the same restaurant. The food is delicious and the price is amazing! Two of us get the dos fajitas or the fiesta and it's less then $50 to eat! We always leave full and sometimes have left overs! Quality is amazing! Chips and salsa are so addicting that I need to buy some to take home with me if I am having people over! My family goes often and the service is always wonderful. We normally get served by Little Fox, Houston or Miss Kitty in the bar. Even when those waiters are not helping us, they always stop at our table and say hi. I have never had service like the people here. They not only bring you your food but they get to know you and talk, making the experience that much more enjoyable. This weekend we had a new male server, Tank. He was new but you would have never guessed. Not only is the staff inviting to their paying guests but they are all family with each other and make their customers family too. They laugh on the sides and talk as they walk by each other which is nice to see to show they are human and enjoying their jobs. Not one person in there looks like they dislike what they do. I recommend this place to everyone I talk and I have not heard one bad thing from them! Give Lonestar a chance, and you will be happy you did.
