Awful experience start to finish! I just concluded the most stressful move of my lifetime/…read moredownsizing after college students departure and thought booking this storage nearby would be easy but NO it was everything but that. I arrived at 4p during business hours to find the front doors locked and no clue on how to get inside to my unit prior to the moving truck arriving to off load my belongings. I called the company phone multiple times and got no answer. Upon watching others enter I figured out how to enter my access code and drive into the garage passage way. It may seem like common sense to someone who WORKS there or has used storage before but to a new comer/ totally unfamiliar, it was CHAOS! Upon trying to gain access to the elevator, I couldn't figure it out and an employee " Michelle " comes waltzing thru casually after 15 mins of trying to dial out and no signal inside the garage portal, she says "just enter your code on the wall". Until then I hadn't even seen the keypad, I was in the elevator trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. She had no clue where my assigned unit was, did not get up to escort me to it or welcome me formally with a smile or any gestures of politeness, yet when people of another race came subsequently she was all too happy to provide white glove service for them. After finding my unit on my own in that MAZE of a facility, I came back downstairs to inquire about one closer to the ground only to find that Michelle had disappeared and I had no clue of how to exit the building since she locked the front office!!! I used an emergency exit just before my anxiety suffocated me then was not helped at all by her who had NO IDEA where the map was and if other units were available closer to the ground/front. She dismissed me citing "there were none" yet I know she didn't even really check nor did she care. I wish I'd chosen cube smart right beside my apt and been done with it because the discrimination, service and lack thereof at Public storage is TERRIBLE! I will be moving my things out before this month completes. Never again! PS - they upsold me on a 5x10 unit when a 5x5 would've fit the 2 twin beds and frames I inquired about just fine. Crooks & incompetent racists! Great!

Terrible service. I have lived here my whole life and I can tell you that you are way better off…read moregoing to Lake Ridge Storage. They do not honor their word: Two weeks prior to the last day of billing I spoke with them about moving out since I had moved and didn't need my storage. She said I had to fill out paperwork or something, didn't mention the lock and such. Then she called me the day before the last day to tell me I wouldn't be cancelled because I needed to come back and do my lock and remove a bike in there. Due to work, I needed an evening to come back since I now live 50 miles away. The person agreed for my arrival on Tuesday evening on a Monday and then they sent me a Past Due late notice for the very thing we agreed on that Tuesday. The management on property is terrible and unprofessional: The lady did not keep her word! Bad business ethics. Worse than this is the fact that they are consistently not at the property when their posted hours are. Not sure if the owner knows that or not, but it was sometimes hard to get a hold of them or get help from them onsite. She brings her kids to work with her in the summer too, which I get sometimes, but not the whole summer basically last year. The experience was terrible: Overall, I had a terrible experience with people who over-charge, didn't keep their word or provide decent service. It sucked. The units are good, but not worth the risk of management that don't care and don't have enough cameras to make up for it: Trust me, call anyone but them in Midlothian and you will be better off. Don't let the property fool you, it is nice but the person running it over there is not going to be helpful to you.

We had been in this storage unit for almost 10 years with no issues until now. The management (Tom…read moreand Kelly) were always professional and nice; however, we noticed rat droppings in our unit about a month ago. All of our items are for decorating events and kept in bins or boxes, we don't keep food or anything to attract rodents. We noticed the poison bait all around the property... and then we found a dead rat in our unit. Not pleased to say the least as I am terrified of rats!! No one was on site to dispose of it so I had to do so myself. We had a large unit which took over a week for us to clean the bins from rat feces and urine and relocate. Our rent wasn't waived, no discount for the inconvenience, nothing; and we had to pay $400 to move into our new unit and still pay full rent at Cubesmart!! On top of that, we had to throw away some of our silk flowers and other items because they smelled like urine. I don't blame the management for the issue, but once the issue was known to them, a proper warning could have been provided to the occupants and a better way to exterminate the rats rather than poison them knowing they would crawl into a unit to die! Totally disappointed in this outcome.

I made a reservation on December 22, 2025, with a scheduled move-in date of January 11, 2026. On December 29, 2025, I called to cancel the reservation and request a refund since my plans had changed well in advance. I was informed that I would only receive a refund for the lock cylinder/merchandise, but not the $30 administrative fee. When I asked what the $30 admin fee covered or what service had already been performed, the representative could not provide a clear explanation. Given that my move-in date was still weeks away and the reservation was made only a week prior, this policy feels unreasonable. I also asked if the $30 could be applied or credited toward a future rental (as I may need storage in February), but customer service said no. To make matters worse, the representative I spoke with could not transfer me to a supervisor or anyone higher to help resolve the issue amicably. This has been a very disappointing experience for a first-time customer. Based on this interaction alone, I will not be using Public Storage in the future and would not recommend it to others. Look for other storage options. Not recommended.

They charge a $20.00 convenience fee just to talk to a person other than the property manager. Ridiculous! I also got charged for inadvertently leaving two 5 gallon water bottles on the curb while I was helping my daughter remove some of her items. When I realized it and returned the bottles were gone and I was charged $25.00. Then they said that they could not return the bottles because they destroyed them. I just wonder what they would do if a really valuable item was inadvertently left behind? Would they destroy it also just to collect a$25.00 fee? I was told by the property manager that this charge was non-negotiable. I had previously rented a unit at another less convenient location for years. I have been renting from Public Storage for a total of 11 years (all on Auto-Pay) and this is the kind of friviolous action they choose to use for a long term renter. Although it is a major inconvenience to move to another storage company, I am moving out by the end of the month and will never rent from them again, nor will I recommend them to any one else. Be warned!
