Chicken Tenders gluten free!
Natalie G.

This is a good place to stop on the way to or from Ape Cave, one of the only places to stop for food. It's overpriced for the quality, but that's what you get in the middle of nowhere. I was disappointed wi-fi wasn't free for customers you have to pay to use it. The have a ton of gluten-free options! Gluten free pizza and chicken tenders yes please! So I was excited to find many options for me.

I stayed at Lone Fir for 2 nights to facilitate my Mount Saint Helens climb and I couldn't be happier with the services provided. Check-in was easy and quick. The manager at the desk was very friendly and made sure to remind me to take enough water on my hike the next morning. The gift shop has all of the basic things you may need if you are camping nearby need a snack or want to take a souvenir home. I ate dinner at the café on my last night a few hours after I finished my climb. I took a quick shower before coming over & I was completely exhausted just looking forward to some filling food before going to bed early since I had an early morning the next day as well. Jeanette, Kendra, and Jeff we're all busy, taking care of a handful of families, but I spoke to each of them and they were very nice and wanted to make sure that I liked my food and to inquire how my hike went. I know they probably talk to a lot of people that come through there that do the same activities I did, but I really appreciated them actually having a conversation with me while they were working so diligently. The food was great though. I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries and took a Oreo milkshake to go to my room when I finished up. For being so remote the quality and price of the food here is quite good. You definitely are not sacrificing quality by eating here. My room during the day was one of the lodge apartments. It was perfectly size for a lone traveler like myself with a big comfortable bed, adequate cooling and a large bathroom. A microwave fridge and coffee maker were also available. If you're looking for a place to stay in the area, I think you would be hard pressed to find something more suitable & convenient. They have a pool on site as well as amenities to barbecue outdoors. 30 minutes to the trailhead if you're planning on climbing Mount Saint Helens. Wi-Fi included if you're staying there and for a small fee if you're dining. There is no cell coverage here so that is important. Solid choice!

Lone Fir was a great stop on our vacation! Stayed in one of the cabins for a night, cabin was clean and as described, no complaints. Swim in the pool was pleasant while some laundry spun in the coin operated laundromat. Had dinner at the cafe and I thought the food was really solid considering you're in a fairly remote location. Everything was fresh, service was top notch (frog tatoo guy and lobe pierced gal, I appreciate y'all). Be nice to people and be considerate and they will more often than not return the gesture.

Excellent, woodsy location with lots of outdoor activities nearby! We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon skipping rocks on the shore of Yale Lake, explored the Ape Cave, and shot some great photos of the majestic Mt St Helens, which is just around the corner from Lone Fir. The restaurant was delicious. I had a pepperoni pizza and the service was warm and friendly. Highly recommend!

Room 3C at Lone Fir Resort

I love this place! I stayed at Lone Fir Resort for one night - I wish I stayed much longer, and will next time. I had a standard room (3C). It was cozy, but spacious for a basic room and spotlessly clean. The bed was quite comfortable, and topped with a lovely quilt. I'd describe the decor as 'tasteful lodge' with clear attention to detail. My bathroom had white subway tile, thick towels, and Beekman 1802 bath products. So much care and thought has clearly gone into outfitting the rooms! Plus, my room had wall-mounted AC. The staff members were super friendly and helpful. My group played horseshoes, shopped at the awesome gift shop, had delicious pizza, fries, fried mushrooms, milk shakes, and hamburgers at Bigfoot's Lodge, played games in the clubhouse, explored to see if we could find all the cabins, and then drove to see Mount Saint Helens and the Ape Caves. We also spent some time skipping rocks at beautiful Yale Lake across the road from the resort. Keep in mind that Bigfoot's Lodge restaurant's days and hours change with the season, so check the website and plan accordingly. I give it five stars all the way!

We stopped in for dinner after hiking. Food was delicious. Our server was great and shared some local info and background behind the names of menu items. We sat outside under the roof on the patio at a nice big table for our family of 5. Kind of pricy, but quality and friendly staff made up for that.

Cafe/restaurant: clean. Great food!!! Incredible breakfast. Best chicken fried steak hubby & I have ever had, Anywhere! Scott, the chef, knows his stuff. Everything we tried was amazing. Milkshakes. Fried mushrooms and fried cheese curds . Our server Candy was friendly, efficient, and hard working. The campgrounds: clean, efficient. Close to beautiful lakes. Quiet. Our room looked brand new, nicer than many hotels! So many families spending quality time playing, reading, swimming together. I loved that the cell service & wifi isn't great: less screen time for everyone. There's a playground, game room, outdoor movie, popcorn.

two onion rings in a basket

Place was lit up with quite a few cars so we decided to stop... We found the place: Clean Restroom clean Cozy Somewhat busy Cute gift shop Friendly server (been here a month) she couldn't answer a few questions but still did a great job. Didn't like - No cell service in Cougar, they offered WiFi for $2 - really ?! Wanted a glass of red wine - they didn't offer by the glass only the bottle for $23 - they did have a few wines by the glass but not what I wanted. Got a beer on tap instead. We came in for a pizza and salad We were told they were out of salad and the pizza we wanted with a mushroom sauce was unavailable. We decided on a pepperoni pizza and onion ring basket (simple) The onion ring basket seemed spendy at $8.50 however there was probably 15 or more in the basket were pretty flavorful for frozen rings worth the price until we got the bill and were charged $1.09 for 2 dipping sauces that were in 1.5 ounce metal container filled half way - enough to dip maybe 4 rings. Pepperoni pizza was $18 for a 12" decent not worth more than $14/$15 at most I felt that the food was a bit overpriced, should have been told we would be charged for dip sauce and charging for WiFi for paying customers in an area with no cell service is a bit much. Would probably stop there again for a cold beer on tap but not the food.

"Nice and friendly" is beyond an understatement when describing this gentleman. The General Store has so many snacks, I probably spent $60 on all the stuff I ate. I couldn't help myself. You won't be left hungry here. They do close early at 6 on though so use your time wisely! We stayed in Condo 2 and it was absolutely lovely. They even have pots, pans, silverware, dishes and mugs in the kitchen for you to use. Oh! We were so happy to see a griddle! The bathtub is also a jacuzzi! And they had little toiletries for you. Oh, and makeup remover wipes even! Talk about next level thinking! Everything hardware you need for a basic stay is there. It really felt like home. The service was amazing. All the staff was friendly and they seem to really enjoy their job. I did enjoy the two young gentlemen they look to be like highschoolers or college kids that were dancing for the kids and wearing the T-shirts. They were so nice of my kids enjoyed dancing with them. I only knocked off a star because we stayed in the grizzly suite. It was a two bedroom suite that we stayed in. And there was a lot of little flies everywhere. And the bathroom had no wash soap in it. So we couldn't even take a shower using the liquid with soap we had to use a bar soap so it'll be nice if you know the Housekeeping can fill that for the next guest. But even with the waterpark being so small, my kids who are ages three, four, five, and six years old. All really love the waterpark so that's why I read it so high. Offut Lake Resort is a fantastic place to spend a few nights. This is a friendly, clean, and…read morewell-ran resort with a true local family feel to it. First of all, the lady at the general store (main office) is incredibly friendly and warm. We stayed in the Angler's Den cabin and called ahead a few times with questions. She answered all of them and was very kind and helpful. The cabin came stocked with pots, plans, dishes, silverware, wine opener/bottler opener and really pretty much everything you would need. The cabin was actually quite large and had a true living room, kitchen (with large refrigerator), bathroom, and separate bedroom. There were multiple TV's within the cabin as well. Plus a large comfortable recliner chair! The cabin also had an air conditioning unit, which was much needed during the month of July. Not all cabins have AC, but most do. Offut Lake Resort is also in a densely wooded area with plenty of tall trees, so the shade throughout the resort keeps it much cooler. Even though the temps were in the high 80's when we were there, it was surprisingly shaded and comfortable throughout. The actual resort is nestled within a few neighborhoods near the lake. It is a quiet area and everyone seemed friendly. It was very safe and we were able to take our one year old son on a few long walks throughout the bordering neighborhoods. The resort has a playground with swings, a basketball court, and a larger grass area for other recreational activities. The general store/main office sells items you might need (or have forgot), and also sells beverages such as soda/juice/beer. The Lady of the Lake Restaurant is fantastic and is truly one of the best things about this small resort. It is incredibly convenient to be able to order takeout food for lunch or dinner from the restaurant and bring it back to your cabin. The restaurant is a short 3-5 minute walk from the camp sites and cabins. All of the food we had there was delicious and exceeded our expectations. The food was higher quality and tastier than what you might find at most bar & grills. Eating at the restaurant is also a nice option, and there is a bar there as well. It is a busy restaurant and seems to be a popular place with the locals. The fish & chips were delicious and something we would recommend! They also had a band play at the restaurant on Friday night. The lake is very scenic and tranquil. It is a shallow lake making it fairly warm and the water seemed clean. There is a small grass beach front area with rock wall that leads down to the lake. There are steps to walk down to get to the lake. We would recommend bringing water socks (or some type of water shoes) because the rocks at the bottom of the lake are a little harder to stand on. We brought sand toys, but then when we got there we realized there was no sand or beach area. Not a big deal at all, but just something to be aware of. It is a great lake to bring floaties to and float around. Next time I go back, I'll bring floaties with an anchor to anchor out in the middle of the lake. You can also fish off the dock or rent boats for the day. This is an underrated lake resort for people in Western Washington! I have lived in the Seattle area my whole life and I've never heard anyone talk about this place! The prices are very reasonable, it is a short trek from the Seattle area, and it feels like a true lake getaway. We stayed for two nights, but it would be easy to spend three or four nights there, especially if you rent boats and spent the day out on the lake. The Lady of the Lake restaurant is a great place to end the day and have drinks/dinner. This is a fun family resort, but would also be a fun option for couples or groups of friends. We stayed there in July during a nice streak of sunshine, but this could be a fun place to go in the Spring or Fall as well.

The PNW environment is beautiful and restorative, and the resort has multiple hiking trails that let you see the entire mountain (though fair warning that many are rigorous hikes and occasionally not conducive to doing them naked. My one advice is to bring your own food and aloe vera, those were the two facets of my trip I wished I'd been a little more prepared. While it lives up to the name "resort," it is also very much a campsite and it will feel like you are either camping or RVing during your time there. They warn everyone that there is a pretty steep 12 degree grade/incline on the entry road so anyone pulling an RV use caution. But once up there, the setting is gorgeously wooded & rustic. It's very tranquil...it feels like a retreat! The resort doesn't have hotels/rooms/cabins (called "bunkies" in the NW) for rent. They recently did get an RV they rent out and may get more options in the future. There are several areas to tent (no elec or water) and plentiful RV spots. We were lucky that we were friends with a member and were invited to stay at her place. It felt like we were sleeping in a tree house the way it was nestled into the mountain. The resort has a clean large pool, an indoor hot tub, sauna, sports court, rec hall, and a gaming room with ping pong and billiards pool tables. People were reading and relaxing in the outside common areas, scattered between the shaded tree-lined perimeter and the colorful gardens. Bathrooms and shower areas were large & clean. There was a laundry area but we didn't notice a common kitchen area for guest use like the other resorts we've been to so far. They did have a few snacks & ice cream for sale, as well as a little "merch" area. The crown jewel of this resort is their trails! They have many volunteers who maintain them. They are very proud of them...as they should be. The entire resort is run via a co-op of volunteers, and most work gets done by the members. The "host" (front desk guy) was very helpful. We arrived the day of their annual board meeting so we felt lucky to meet so many of the "movers & shakers" there - especially a few of the board members! The day included a small local band & a BBQ dinner. The newly renovated rec hall made for a great place for the dinner & social area. We made new friends who invited us for drinks & dessert (and fabulous conversation) that night. It was a great day. MSR is trying to amp up their marketing & activities to boost interest and memberships. A newer event, Sports Fest, had concluded a couple weeks before we arrived & was a huge success. It offered something for everyone - from pickleball clinics & tourneys to a fun poker run through the woods. Bummed we missed it but it'll be an annual event. Check it out if you're on this side of the country next July! They used to have a Trail Run challenge up the mountain side & are discussing bringing it back. A few other things to know: *It's clothing optional except in the pool & hot tub. Most everyone was nude while we were there. *There is a strict no photo policy (stickers are provided/required over your phone cameras). We did get permission from leadership to take these photos and help spread the word about this beautiful resort. *Rates are affordable. *No cell phone service there but WiFi worked well. The resort's motto is "Just Wear A Smile". This & other cute signs were posted to help encourage nudity. It is a good deal colder, especially in the evenings, than FL where we are from so of course there's a bit more leeway (and necessity) regarding clothes. We loved the vibe & the people at MSR & will definitely be back!
