The porch that wraps around the main building

Spent a weekend camping at Hilltop House -- across the road and up a hill from and run by Anderson Lodge -- for a wedding. It was an incredible experience. We had the entire hilltop to ourselves which had an intimate, yet large, complex of buildings. At least one of the buildings is old but they've all been built to look the same -- the classic red barn look. There's a dance hall/party room with an outdoor patio/BBQ area next to bunk house with a commercial kitchen, and lounges and restrooms with showers on both floors. Outside the kitchen of the bunk house building is a very large patio, with a low rock wall around it, and an amazing view. This is where we ate our lunches and dinners on black metal patio furniture which I assume comes with the house but I don't know for sure. There are lots of gardens and paths and areas with picnic benches, volleyball courts, basketball courts and much more to discover. Three or four cabins are a short distance away from the game room, the outdoor pavillion type area for wedding ceremonies on the lawn, and the big main building which features several couches in front of a double fireplace and a grand piano. There are also restrooms, a kitchen and at least six large round tables with chairs. This building has a wrap-around deck with tables and chairs and an unbelievable view down across a valley to mountains and trees on the other side. Beautiful at sunset! There's also a firepit with amphitheater type seating and a small stage. We camped on the lawns near the parking area -- in a hundred+ year old apple orchard. There was a sweet little gazebo and an outdoor "cafe" building out here as well. Really, there was never a dull moment and yet it was so relaxing and peaceful. Absolutely quiet except of the sounds of your party. I don't remember hearing airplanes or trucks, even. The kitchens were clean and nicely organized and there is plenty of signage to tell you where to find things and what condition to leave things in. I think it's an ideal location for a large party, reunion, wedding, etc. and would organize one here in a heartbeat.

After some online research, I found the Everett Street Guesthouse and decided this was the place for us. It is a small B&B with two rooms in the house and a small studio cottage out back. Terry, the owner, was very helpful when making the arrangements and was very accomadating of my dietary restrictions. She was there to greet us when we arrived at the house and she gave us a tour of the property and introduced us to the lovely house cat Sophie. We stayed in the Wellfleet room which was spacious and had a comfortable bed and large closet to store all our junk. The bathroom, which we shared with one other person, was very nice and very clean. We peeked at the other bedroom before the guest arrived and it too, was very nice. The rooms aren't frilly but are decorated to be comfortable and relaxing. I would describe the house as comfy, spacious and inviting. The artwork throughout the house is eclectic, whimsical and ethnic in origin. It was fun to poke around and discover all the treasures that Terry has scattered throughout the public rooms. The breakfast consisted of fresh fruit salad, juice, coffee and tea and some other entree. One day it was homemade granola which was excellent and we have now made at home. Another day was a breakfast panini. Over all we were very happy with the breakfast. Like the rooms, it is good but not fancy. The one negative thing we experienced while in Portland was a blazing hot heat wave. It was 97 and 98 degrees on a couple of the days and while it was cool in the living room, the upstairs bedrooms did not cool off at night and so it was hard to sleep. Terry did have the AC on but because it was the first time she'd needed to run it this summer, she didn't know until the holiday weekend that the AC wasn't running properly. The neighborhood around the Everett Street Guesthouse is nice, with lots of older homes and is very close to 28th St with loads of good restaurants and a cheap second run movie theatre. My husband and I enjoyed several delicious meals at La Buca (Italian) and then popped around the corner to watch a movie for $3 each. Awesome! In summary, one feels more like a house guest than tourist at the Everett Street Guesthouse. We really enjoy Portland and we enjoyed our B&B as well. Will we return to the Everett Street Guesthouse? You bet! We would also recommend it to our family and friends. It is a lovely little gem in a lovely little city!

Terry the hostess makes you feel welcomed from the minute you meet her. Stay in one of her two rooms in the house and enjoy a scrumptious continental breakfast or try out her new private studio complete with kitchenette for a do it yourself breakfast. Either way you will not go wrong and will walk away wishing you didn't have to leave. Kudos Terry for a job well done.

The cabin has a nice woodsy smell even though we did have to air it out and it felt very cozy right once you stepped inside. The place is quite secluded with only one other cabin close by and the other by the owners. The amenities offered here is great with the free Wi-Fi which is very good for a far away place like this so close to Mount Rainier. The signal strength was great and we never had a disruption in service. When we checked in, Janet was there to greet us and was very helpful to explain about hiking options at Mount Rainier plus all the dining options close by in Ashford. They have a wide array of DVD's for you to borrow since they don't have any TV signal, but during our entire stay here we were always too busy to watch any of them. The cabin we stayed at was just terrific as it seems as it was recently not too long ago remodeled. It has a full size fridge, stove and even a dishwasher. They also have utensils and kitchen utensils for cooking with pots and pans included. The interior of the cabin was nicely decorated and you can tell the place has been kept up with all the guests coming and going with each new reservation. The bathroom is large and has a nice big Jacuzzi tub with a skylight. The main draw of the place was the big hot tub right outside our bedroom door. It was fenced in so you have privacy throughout and you can freely jump in and out whenever you want. The place also came with a small porch with a gas barbeque grill which we utilized once for barbequing burgers. It was such a great setting to relax and have a couple beers before heading to the wedding. If I ever come to Mount Rainier again I would definitely choose to stay at this cabin again as it is quite a long drive back to Seattle if only coming for a day trip. The amenities offered here just seems to make staying in the woods that more inviting! P.S. They have no cell phone signal here and you cannot get any reception once you leave the premises.

Honest, clear and helpful. We stayed at the Rainier Cabin and there is nothing I would change, literally nothing. The cabin was inviting and warm, including the freshly picked flowers that were on the kitchen island when we arrived. It was spacious, well planned out and the kitchen was a dream. Downstairs bathroom has a hammered copper tub, great little treat! Upstairs had a river stone shower with two heads (3 if you could the hand held option) that helped after a day of exploring. Between the a/c and the ceiling fan we didn't feel the heat from the oddly hot days (every day in middle 90's and humid!). Outside there is a covered log kitchen area with a grill, adobe oven and picnic table. There is also a wonderful front covered porch and your own hot tub! You can take a short walk and be on the Cowlitz River I cannot emphasize enough how CLEAN this cabin was, as in I couldn't find any dirt. I usually spend some amount of time cleaning up something but there was literally nothing to be cleaned. Shows the tremendous pride the owners take in ensuring their cabin is truly ready. Rainer Cabin Review This was our 2nd stay (we came last…read moreAugust). Danielle & Rob provide a haven of rest like no other in their cabins (& TeePee!). We stayed in the Rainer Cabin again as we love having the huge porch & rocking chairs with a backyard and fire pit--the mountains as the backporch view. My girls enjoy the small goldfish pond & fountain just outside the kitchen windows which provides a lovely water sound for evening dinners. There is a grill (made our steaks perfect) and second chimney-style fire place under a shelter with a picnic table for outside barbecuing. Everything is clean and stocked with all necessities (including most toiletries, dish soap/sponge & laundry detergent!). It's also just a quick stroll from the river that runs behind it. The bushes lining the woods and long driveway were full of huckleberries, black raspberries, thimble berries, blue berries and cherry trees (last August we picked our fill of blackberries). My 10 year old and 1.5 year old daughters delighted in morning berry-picking. They now have chickens near the garden (enclosed & separate); which my kids utterly enjoyed feeding with Danielle. From the garden, we picked lemon balm for evening tea, artichokes and broccoli for dinner, and even snagged a few fresh strawberries. D & R have created a paradise getaway perfect for all ages and especially wonderful for our family of 4. At night, after the kids were snoozing, (we brought our baby monitor cameras) my husband & I enjoyed stargazing from the hot tub just feet away from the cabin. Mt Rainier Nat. Forest is just about 30 mins drive so we took a couple days to hike and sightsee. Packwood, a charming little town 5-10 mins away, offers a few restaurants, a market, & our favorite--a café (The Mountain Goat Café). Danielle & Rob fully furnish the cabins with everything you need (with incredible attention to details) for a cozy getaway as well as a kind and understanding attitude with the focus on providing a place of rest and retreat for their clients. It's a family-run business (even their teens help in the garden!). We will be back as soon as we can!
