I found this salon after specifically looking for a toxic free shop. I was looking to do a normal gel manicure, and noticed there were a few options. I did the Mega Gel Manicure, which meant that the base coat was a thicker polish in a little pot. It reminded me a little bit like gel builder. I live down the street from the camp and wanted to transition from gel x to something more natural and came across this place, they specialize in mega gel and other services and have a seven day guarantee on their gel nails staying intact and not lift or chip. i went in on july 7th friday and paid $150 for megal gel on my nails and regular gel on my toes, simply in the color red. this seemed extremely overpriced, as i normally pay this amount elsewhere for gel x with beautiful designs...even with removal fees. but whatever, it's in a posh little shop in costa mesa so to be expected. what annoyed me is that they didn't really clean my cuticles and my pedicure was mediocre. however, within five days- three of my nails lifted and started breaking. just my luck. i called back and they were able to take me in and fix it. there was no charge for this but i still tipped my manicurist out of curtesy. now it's been two weeks and my nails have all lifted, some have broken, cracked and fallen off and it looks absolutely horrendous. so now i've paid $150+ for nails that lasted me not even two weeks. bummer. not to mention, they're kind of rude and dismissive in their interactions. the ladies at the front desk need to learn how to smile at customers. i've worked in luxury retail for 15 years and they definitely need to retrain their employees on customer service. reaaaalllllly wanted to like this place because it's cute but safe to say i will not be returning. read more

Update: forgot to add that this was the same day my grandmother lost her diamond ring. Was hesitant to post since it is a big offense and wouldn't want to wrongly accuse, but after searching the entire house and back tracking in hopes of finding it the only thing conclusive is that she had the ring before getting our nails done and did not have it after. So if you do come here maybe leave nice jewelry at home or make sure you keep jewelry on during the service. Additionally, the woman who did her nails left without waiting for any payment and did not return despite my nails taking 30 minutes longer than my grandmother's. Again, I hate to make the accusation but I do believe people should be aware in case a similar situation happens. read more

My mom & I decided to drive over an hour to check this nail studio out specifically for their non-toxic materials & the fact that their nail techs are trained to help with healing nails. The nail techs themselves were great. They were friendly, professional & paid attention to detail. My issue is with the receptionist, Robin. From the beginning she starts by speaking to me in a condescending manner saying that if I'm hiding then they can't help me, implying that I was scared, when in actuality I was waiting for my mom to return from the car since the appointments were under her name. Later on in the middle of my mom getting her manicure done, Robin walks over and tells the manicurist that she needs to hurry because there's someone else who needs a service. Our appointments were for 4:30 and we were there on time so I'm not sure why she felt the need to rush my mom's service when this lady came in way after us. Plus, you're the receptionist, not the boss, so why are you hovering and micro-managing everyone & interrupting appointments? My tech had already finished my toes & instead of having her service the next customer, Robin again walks over & has my moms manicurist switch customers in the middle of her service (that she made an appointment for!) & tells the tech that just finished my toes to finish polishing my mom's nails. Again, the nail techs were awesome. Robin made the experience uncomfortable and it honestly seemed like she was on a slight power trip by trying to make us women of color feel inferior and uncomfortable. As for the ambiance, the studio is rather cute & smells amazing. For the prices they charge one would expect there to be actual spa chairs but nope. I was really excited to try out this nail salon as it's organic and nontoxic. I loved how you get confirmation reminders about your appointment and everyone was so professional on the phone. Once I arrived to the studio, I thought the place was so clean and cute! I came for a gel mani and gel pedi. My gel mani was amazing and the tech was so nice and paid attention to details. However, my pedi didn't turn out so good; the Polish wasn't even and I told the tech a couple of times and she just looked irritated and said she will fix it. I don't think she even looked at what I was talking about in detail. I had to tell the other technician and she pointed it out to her to even it out. I hadn't been to The Camp in years, my friends and I had a mini- mother's day and had boba + lunch followed by a pedicure at Lollipop They do not have the typical massage chairs and tubs for your feet. They bring out this tub (see pic) for the soak which was nice. They didn't have an insane number of color choices. But it's not a bad thing I don't like to be overwhelmed with choices. I feel like their lotions and oils were a nicer quality compared to chain places like Happy Nails. My skin felt so smooth! My pedicure is completely perfect, she did a great job. I didn't like my color at the end but that's my own fault haha. I would return, but do note parking on the weekend at the Camp is horrendous. They offer services for children as young as three, so I expected a more welcoming experience - especially since it's not easy for a little one to sit through a mani-pedi. Some small touches, like books or even just a bit of enthusiasm, would have made a huge difference. The chair was also uncomfortable for her, and even with extra pillows, she struggled to sit properly. As for the service itself, I was shocked that we paid $40 for what was essentially just polish. Her "massage" was nothing more than a quick rub with lotion - no hand/foot soak, no real pampering, just a pat-down with a towel. Honestly, a regular nail salon would have made her first experience much more special. Needless to say, we won't be coming back. *And when the appointment was over as I was paying my daughter saw candy on the desk and asked politely if she could have a candy and the lady let her take a treat. Visiting Lollipop Nail Studio would count as my fifth time ever getting a gel manicure. Either I had been visiting the wrong salons, or this place knows how to properly prep my nails for gel, but this is the first time I have not had a single nail lift. Michele was my manicurist and worked on my nails with so much care and skill. I wanted a very thin white french tip, and she was able to shape my nails beautifully and delicately paint on the white tip with a brush, even on my short natural nails. Colleen gave me a gel pedicure, and it amazing and relaxing as well. This place is pricier than other salons in the area (not surprising as it is located in the Camp), but it's worth the investment to not have your nails peel off in a few days, which was my experience previously. I don't get my nails done often because I'm a bit nervous about it - but WOW they really blew me away! My manicurist was Halenia and she did the best job I've ever seen on french manicure. I scheduled a mommy and me mani-pedi date and the technician that took care of my daughter was kind and patient and accommodating to my daughter who was very shy for her first mani-pedi. I got the gel mani and a pedi. Both technicians were great! My mani happened to peel up after day 3 and I happened to remember that they had a one week guarantee on their gel service. I called and scheduled an appointment thinking it would be a touch up. By my appointment rolling around, I had two other peeling nails. The technician was originally going to repair just the 3 nails but as she looked over the rest of my nails, she offered to redo all of my nails! Now I'm a week from my "touch up" and no signs of peeling or chipping. I don't think the first round was of anyone's fault and wondering if it was just the weather or something that day. I'm torn on my review but that probably means I should say what I need to say. I am a new customer and came in for a "mega gel manicure." My hair stylist raved about this place and I was excited to find someone who does Biosculpture Gel (it's very hard to find). It's $50 which is fine, BUT I am so disappointed that it did not include a real manicure. Just a dry cuticle trim.... For $50 I feel like the least that could be offered is a basic manicure with the gel. I'm sorry but a dry cuticle trim is just not a manicure, it's a cuticle trim and gel application. Although my nails look nice the skin around them looks dry, thick and feels gross. Im mostly disappointed because I've been frequenting high end nail salons for several years to get Cal-Gel and Biosculpture Gel and it's very hard to find in OC/LA. I used to travel to DTLA but the salon shut down (Nail Swag). I was happy to find this place. The price is high (although I have paid more at times) but the product is worth it... but usually a premium service like Biosculpture includes a real manicure. I have never not received a full manicure with cal gel/Biosculpture at any of the salons I've been to. So I am not sure if I'm going back. I need real manicures, not just a dry trim. If that means I'll have to stick to short nails and go to "regular" salons so be it. Or travel to LA I guess. I'd rather have soft hands than long nails.
