I have to say the same thing about the Tostones. These things are ridiculously dry/overcooked smh.

We ordered the chicharrón de pollo tonight and unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. The chicken was severely overcooked--dry, tough, and completely flavorless, almost like biting into a hockey puck. I heard the restaurant is under new management, and while I wasn't a fan of the previous manager (the woman with the short hair who wasn't exactly friendly), the food back then was much better. We used to appreciate that they used clean ingredients--like turmeric for natural coloring--but it seems that's no longer the case. The tostones were also overcooked and tasted like they'd been sitting around all day. Overall, the quality of the food just wasn't there tonight. We spent around $100 and sadly didn't enjoy any part of the meal. We're not the type to call and complain or try to get something for free--we genuinely want to support small businesses--but this experience needs to be acknowledged. Something in the kitchen clearly has changed, and not for the better. Last year, Lola's was right up there with Caridad as having the best Dominican food in Yonkers--some would even say their chicharrón was better. But now, I've got to give that title back to Caridad. Please, do better. We want to keep coming back, but the quality has to return.

Very bad customer service. Was a customer for many years, but the owner and her lack of people skills made it hard to continue going there.

Dominican restaurants in the White Plains area (and a bit beyond) are few and far between. So when…read moreone opens, I want to experience how my people are cooking or doctoring up the foods I grew up with. Plus, I've had Gustico on my radar ever since they opened down on Central Ave in Yonkers a few years ago. Despite their current average rating, they're still a firm favorite so decided on take out. The space is small with their food warmers taking up a lot of space on the right. A few high top tables on the left and lots of tropical faux greenery to invite you further in. Gustico has all the hearty Dominican staples- think: sancocho, stewed goat, stewed fish with coconut, chicharrones de cerdo (fried pork chunks), etc. The seafood though, isn't offered daily as menu might suggest as the restaurant may not have received their supply for the day. That was the case when I came here and was told they didn't receive the fish because of the rainstorm. I ordered yellow rice- that looked like white rice doused in yellow food coloring, a container of white rice, a small container of each of black and red beans. Both beans were tasty- but the thinly sliced celery in each threw me off since traditional Dominican cooking doesn't call for that and I also picked up baked chicken for hubs which he liked a lot. Tamarind and Passion fruit juices were the real thing- maybe way tooo sweet- but tasty. Don't pay any mind to their strip small location, come for the soul-soothing Dominican stews+other foods and warm service practically all year round. However, aside from their 3+ year mark, Gustico needs to straighten out themselves big time and not cut corners because it seems EVERYBODY is complaining about them. Just do better.

Sofrito is a versatile, aromatic purée of tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, onions, and garlic, which is the foundation of just about every Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Dominican soup, stew, or sauce. Located on busy Teaneck Road in Teaneck, this husband/wife duo, with the husband being Cuban and the wife Puerto Rican, operates the hidden gem that translates from the Spanish meaning "my roots." The reservation was easily made by Google Assistant for Saturday dinner. Upon arrival at Mis Raices, a bigger location after 3 years for some of us, my partner, our friends, and I got a table by the window immediately inside a cozy island vibe filled with the wonderful smell of the home-style food, the beautiful souvenirs of Puerto Rico and Cuba, and the vibrant salsa music. The menu has been expanded since our last visit, so come hungry! For appetizers, we decided on the Croqueta De Jamón, Croqueta De Pollo, and Guava Empanada. As a main meal, we opted for Arroz Con Pollo (Chicken with Rice), Pechuga De Pollo (Chicken Breast) A La Plancha with Salad, Ropa Vieja (Shredded Beef) with Arroz Amarillo y Frijoles Negroes, and Oxtail/Rabo Encendido with Arroz con Gandules. Complimentary toasted garlic bread started our meal. The meal was beautifully presented. The flavors were tastefully delicious and pretty consistent, being rich and authentic. The portion was just right with the price very reasonable, and it's a BYOB. The owners, Ana and Eddie, and their staff make us feel welcome and are accommodating. We can continue to recommend this place.

As far as the service, they are all friendly and attentive. We ordered cheeseburger and bacon egg with cheese empanada tacos and the chicharrón de pollo with Moro . The empanada tacos are split down the middle and stuffed with fried cheese, sweet plantain and lettuce topped with special sauces: green and pink. But the BEC one comes with a special sauce that sweet. The highlight of the chicharrón plate is the salad. The dressing is so good and simple. I love it! There's notes of lime and vinegar. It only comes with the plates. Oh, I also tasted the cheeseburger empanada. The thang was filled to the rim and fried to perfection! I also had the new dessert. And I loved it. It was served cold with layers of vanilla cake, cool whip, thinly sliced strawberries and apples. It was fresh and light served in a perfect amount. Oh, there was also a bit of jam in there. It was good! Hands down better than the birthday cake empanada.
