You can also find those toys that can't be destroyed by the chewers. If your dog likes to dress up (mine does), you'll find coats, sweaters and even little booties to make them the envy of other dogs. The staff is all dog lovers, so you know the customer service is going to be good. They'll assist you in finding what ever you need and will make over your dog as much as you do. Me and my family had such a great time at our first Howl-o-ween Barktacular event at Lola's and Penelope's! We saw so many amazing dogs dressed up in the cutest costumes. Our dog Rocco had a blast hanging out with all the other pups and soaking up the fun atmosphere. We also got to try some new spots -- Dirty Soda and Walk Away Waffles -- and both were delicious! The drinks and waffles totally hit the spot. We can't wait to come back again and shop for Rocco in Lola's and Penelope's store. Such a fun, dog-friendly event and an awesome day overall! read more

I attended a Yelp event here. It was so nice to be able to bring our pets. There were lots of cute costumed dogs. There's metered parking and a small lot in the back of the building. It's a very nice shop with more treats than you can imagine for your best friend. They even offer the fresh variety of dog food - they have a photo area and bakery. Lots of merchandise to choose from to keep your pet looking stylish. Our event was fun complete with balloon art, the best walking waffle treats and some amazing dirty sodas. read more

I was recently in the area and decided to stop by to grab some last minute Christmas gifts for my labradoodle! When I entered at the upstairs entranced, I was immediately greeted by the welcoming staff. The store is HUGE, so it definitely took me awhile looking through all the fun products for sale. Some of the products, such as the enrichment puzzles, were a bit on the pricey side, and I've seen them for much less online and at other pet stores. However, their overall selection of everything you could possibly need for your pets is AMAZING. My labradoodle is a very picky eater, so I knew I wanted to buy him some sort of topper for his dry kibble. One of the staff members directed me towards exactly what I was looking for, and she recommended a freeze dried salmon powder. It worked like a charm! Safe to say that my dog is obsessed, and the container I purchased will last him a long time. I've also been curious about cleaning my dog's teeth. I had never introduced him to teeth brushing as a puppy, so I know he wouldn't be a fan of a toothbrush if I started now. I asked the same staff member for her opinion, and I was blown away by her knowledge and guidance! There's a whole shelf dedicated to different products that help with everything tooth related. They offer a cleaning liquid that you add to the water bowl, a dry powder that you add to kibble, a gel that you put directly on the dog's teeth, and regular toothpaste. She talked me through the pros and cons of each option. I decided to give the gel (TropiClean Enticers Teeth Cleaning Gel) and powder (Plaque Off) a try. I am already so impressed by the results! I'm excited to finally have an easy routine for my dog that he actually doesn't mind. As I was checking out, the staff knew it was my first time visiting and made sure to sign me up for their rewards program. I received the cutest little goodie bag for signing up, as well as a coupon for my next visit. Such a memorable experience all around! read more

Great experience for my newly rescued dog. We were able to get an appointment within a few weeks but then got a call that there was a cancellation sooner. I always hate dropping off my dogs for hours to get groomed, and this did take 4 hours. But I felt that my pup was in very good hands. Her groomer Rachel was very nice, attentive, and came to meet me and the dog first to make sure I explained what I wanted her to do. She also had good suggestions and did a terrific job grooming our little muppet. NOTE: I ALWAYS ASK IF A GROOMER USES FORCED HOT AIR WHICH YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER EVER LET A GROOMER USE ON YOUR PET, AND THEY DO NOT USE THAT HERE. Rachel took time to explain the whole grooming process to me which I really appreciated. As for prices, grooming is an expense no matter how you slice it, and I was appalled when I called lesser establishments that were charging as much or more. My dog's grooming was about $80 and well worth it. I will definitely go back! read more

Run. This place is Arrogant, unrealistic, lacking respect and common courtesy. Note to the owner. Who was the person saying this to me and my wife and speaking down to us. The fundamental basic idea in business at least last time I checked was to grow your customer base not talk to them like they're trash and kick them to the curb and then have to go find new customers. I attended a event at Lola and Penelope's last night for Halloween and ended up leaving with a bag full of goodies for my cat and dog friends. It is a very open and well-stocked place for being right in the middle of Clayton. They had a lot of really good pet treats with excellent ingredients which is what I find to be the most important thing when focusing on my fur babies. The people who were staffing the cash registers were some of the nicest human beings I've ever met. But I did get to meet my fair share of sweet puppies last night as well for the event. I will absolutely be back to stock up on more treats for my cats in the future. read more

Had a great time at the 3rd Annual Howl-o-ween Barktacular at Lola and Penelope's! After parking in the nearby garage (which was surprisingly open/easy to navigate even on a Friday evening) I had a short walk next door to get to the store/event. It was my first time in the store and I was impressed by multi-floor space filled with lots of adorable clothing and tasty treat options. I brought my dog who had the best time sniffing the wall of available treats, looking at all the snazzy sweaters and begging for a cool new toy- we ended up with a couple of new toys and a chicken treat that almost didn't make it home in one piece. This place is just absolutely darling! If you have a pet and want to find something unique and unusual this is the spot. I mean they have rhinestone clips for doggie ears. They carry the fleece sweaters that are perfect for winter underneath your puppies harness in the winter, I highly recommend them. The one thing I want to point out is they have a really long set of stairs so if you or your pooch can't do stairs it might be an issue. read more

I (and my pups) Lola & Penelope's boutique and store! L&P offers a canine and feline specialty boutique on the street level of Forsyth and a grooming salon, food and toy store down below. The entrances are both at street level from Forsyth as well as facing the alley off S Bemiston. Some of the prices here may be high for a casual shopper, but compared to similar shops in the region, they are competitively priced and at times a deal lower than others. The other factor here is QUALITY. The specialty boutique offers clothing, carriers, beds, leashes and collars, as well as custom made name tags for the collars. There are also some very cute toys up here as well. The lower level offers a curated selection of high quality foods and treats. They have a wide selection of chew treats like bully sticks (rabbit, deer, bull, etc) to jerkies, training treats and all between for dogs, and there's a fair selection for your feline friends as well. There are also frozen and refrigerated options here. This store also offers bathing/grooming supplies, bug sprays (flea, tick, etc) for both cat and dog, and toys for fun and for learning (like the ones where the treats are hidden behind a little trap door and the dog has to push a button to get it). The groomers here all treat my pups the way I do- everyone who you'll meet here loves animals and is very friendly towards humans alike. My pups have never had a bad grooming session- their hair is always cut just the way I request it (and it's a cut many groomers have failed at in the past), they never come home with nicks or cuts or issues. I love L&P and that's why we've been coming here for years and years to come. I adopted a 5 year old cockapoo over the summer and it was clear that her past owners did a terrible job taking care of her and her hair had gotten matted and it was a hassle for me to take care of. L&P's did an amazing job of getting her the grooming she needed and it makes me so happy to know that my princess has a great place to go when she needs a haircut. The store itself is simply adorable and huge. There's every pet product you could ever think of. Despite being in downtown Clayton, there's a free lot in the back which really helps a girl out. I do feel like the prices are a little high, but I'm too pleased with the job Sarah did to really complain. I will definitely be returning and can't wait! read more

Lola and Penelope has been grooming my four Pomeranians for almost 2 years and I am so grateful to have found them! Before Lolas I was taking my boys to get groomed at a major pet store and was never thrilled with the results. The staff and grooming team at Lolas are friendly and knowledgeable and a great educational resource that have made a huge difference in the quality and softness of my dogs coats. They are always mindful about the differences in my dogs coats, as they all have different textures and colors and skin needs. My boys always look gorgeous and smell fantastic when they leave and stay much cleaner between grooms with the way Lolas handles hygiene cuts! read more

The Cresties and I LOVE Lola and Penelope's! Our favorite groomer is Marsha, who saved our little Sequoia's life with her attention to detail. She discovered an abscess that we hadn't noticed, and when we took Sequoia to the vet the next day, we learned that she was in renal failure and we were able to get her on the right medications to extend her life and quality of life. That said, ALL of the groomers at Lola and Penelope's are great, animal-loving professionals and we trust our precious dogs to their capable hands. Like most dog owners, we've seen those horrible YouTube videos about what can happen to your pets when you leave them with a groomer. We have no such worries here. The store is lovely too, with a lot of locally-sourced products and a wide variety of brands. We especially like the holiday boxes available for purchase. The dogs enjoyed their Halloween box (treats, toys, and a spooky bandana!) and are looking forward to their Valentine box! Why shop at the big box stores when for the same price, you can support a local business with local employees? We are fortunate to have several excellent local pet boutiques in the St. Louis area. What sets Lola and Penelope's apart is their caring staff and attention to customer service. read more

It's a shame my favorite groomer works here and is so nice ...but upon entering I get the worst customer service from the old lady behind the counter I have ever encountered. Rolled her eyes at me and gave a disgusted look and said "she's full" when I told her my groomers name, who already knew I was coming in. No "hello, welcome in how can I help you?" No "oh I'm sorry, she's full. Would you like to book for another day?" Despicable. This isn't the first time I've received poor customer service from this place. Will never set foot in this place again. Just because you're in Clayton doesn't mean you get to be rude and give poor customer service. No wonder they're always hiring and can't keep employees. I can't imagine having to work with that miserable mean lady. read more

I love going to Lola and Penelopes! Their staff is always so friendly and helpful. I have to walk in with blinders though because I get so excited by the cute outfits and all the toys. My dog is already spoiled, but their unlimited Canine Cookie Club helps me show him extra love. Each month they feature a new type of treat. You take your tin in once a week and they'll fill it up! With such a central location in Clayton, I swung past as often as I can. read more

We just attended a wonderful event at Lola and Penelope's! It was incredibly well-executed and the generosity was so appreciated. They offered a Halloween party for pets and owners with free chili from Honeybees and free beer from OFallon brewery! The dogs were able to sniff their way through a scavenger hunt and take home delicious treats and cute toys. A wonderful event and cute boutique. They have so much to offer for dog apparel and toys! I am as obsessed with this place as I am obsessed with my pup Betty. I got her groomed there recently and it was perfect. The staff are so sweet and always have their pups there which is so cute. I really appreciate the precautions they are taking during COVID (requiring masks, having sanitation stations set up, marking out 6 feet on the floor, etc...). I took my 2-year-old dog, Larry, here for a full grooming appointment. Tiffani was his groomer, and I have all good things to say about her and the shop! Larry came out looking and smelling great, and T even took him back to do a little extra trimming when I asked for more taken off around his behind. So friendly and such a cute little shop with lots of pet stuff to browse and buy. A nice perk was the goody bag sent home with Lar at the end of his appointment, which included a squeaky toy, lots of treats and a report card of his session. The cost for his spa day was $51 plus $9 for teeth brushing. (he is 24 lbs) -- Update: The night I brought Larry home from his grooming appointment I noticed a big chunk take out of Larry's fluffy tail that I hadn't seen during pickup. I called to ask what happened, hoping for some reconciliation or at least some acknowledgment, as no one mentioned it at pickup, but since it was after business hours I had to leave a voicemail. Left message about what I noticed and asked to be called back, left my number. It's been nearly a week now and haven't heard back from the groomers at all. Not going to chase them for an explanation, just won't be taking Larry back there next time. Also, the Larry loves the chew toy that came with his service, but won't eat any of the treats that were included. Not sure if they're old or bad or what. read more

Had a great experience here buying supplies for my dogs. There was a fairly large selection of discount items in the back corner. as expected most of the remaining sizes for the clothes were the super large sizes and the teeny tiny sizes made for guinea pigs, or mutant "purse puppies." Since this is a hoity toity store I was surprised they had anything for large dogs at all. in fact, everything they sold they had in large sizes: clothes, beds, collars, treats, etc. Big dogs can be fancy too! the lone woman working at the store was very nice. Did not greet or acknowledge me right away, as many other reviews complain about, but she helped me pick out the correct sizes, showing me what they had available, etc. She very nicely packed up my purchases and even gave me a gift bag for new clients that included several samples of food as well as treats (bully stick!) and a stuffed toy which my dog swiftly decapitated. I would probably never buy anything here that wasn't on sale but that has more to do w my penny pinching rather than any shortcomings of the business. overall I had a great experience and will stop in next time I'm around. read more

We always like to support local businesses, but we bought an interactive toy that the shop recommended and our dog chewed it up in less than 5 minutes. When we returned to the store to explain what happened we were told there was nothing they could do about it. We thought Lola and Penelope's would stand behind their products and at least let us get a new, more durable toy without cost, but they made us feel bad for even asking. We've been to other pet stores that stand behind their products and allow us to get a new toy without cost, and without hassle if our dog destroys the original. Sadly, we won't be back. We believe a business should stand behind the products they sell and make things right if the customer isn't satisfied with the product. read more

After a delicious meal at Sauce on the Side, my friend and I were walking off our calzone desserts in Clayton when the free samples of dog food from Lola and Penelope's caught my eye. There is a main level for shopping and a nice lower level where the grooming and more shopping happens. Some of the products were too designer-y for my pets. My pets would be Amish if not for their water fountain and microchips; they don't care about keeping up with the Rovers. However, what's not for me may be for you, so if you accessorize your pets, L&P's would be a good stop for you. We each needed Christmas gifts for our pets - dog for her and cat for me. I got two catnip toys for a little less than $20: a classic cigar (cat lovers, if your cats have never had a catnip cigar, they have not truly experienced joy and neither have you) and a long tube. My friend bought some treats and a toy that she hopes her dog will not be able to destroy. One of my cats got found one of his presents in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve, removed it from the bag and had it on the floor when I woke up. It was a hit! read more

Their prices are surprisingly competitive and actually better than any other groomer we have experienced. All of the special event they have create such a fun memories for us and Our Pups. This place gives off a really good vibe. I only stopped here to shop, so cannot speak for the grooming services. Honestly, I didn't even know they did grooming until seeing other reviews. There was no wet dog scent, or barking, or any sign of it being anything but a store. This place is a cute, two-story boutique for pets and their humans. The upstairs entrance only offers street parking; I can't speak for the lower entrance. They have a TON of dog stuff, and a cat section too. Like most shops, the cat section could have been larger, but they had the staples, and a bunch of adorable extras. Great gift ideas for you, your pet, or a fellow pet owner. Prices were higher than chains/online stores, but that's to be expected for a downtown boutique. The two people working were extremely friendly, available to help, and gave me space to browse. read more

Scheduled an appointment weeks ago to have my dog bathed and nails done. I verified that the date was correct given that I was told my appointment was on a Sunday. I then planned my Sunday around driving there and back for her appointment. I arrived today 15 minutes early, 9:45 for a 10am. Hours on the door say they open at 9am, yet the door was locked and the sign said closed. I call up, they answer, I let them know I am here for the 10am, and am told that she will be right up to get me. Not sure why the closed sign was out and the door was locked when they are open and have grooming appointments, but whatever. I then waited outside for over 5 minutes for the lady to walk up the stairs to let me but she comes outside and tell me that they cancelled my appointment on the 19th because I "didnt respond to the text that goes to new clients to verify their appointment". Yes, that is correct, "established clients" can just call and make an appointment, but if you are a new client they send you a text that you have to respond to, which is apparently sent a while after you call and speak with someone to make your appointment, in order to keep you appointment. No calls to let you know that they are cancelling your appointment or anything. I pulled up my text to show her that I never got a text on the 19th. Too bad, appointment is no more. I asked how I was supposed to confirm my appointment via a text I never got, she could care less. I asked why they wouldn't call to verify that the appointment is cancelled, again, she could care less. So, if you don't get the text, they cancel your appointment, you still take time out of your day to drive there, all for nothing. On top of it, you get home with a dog that still needs groomed and get to find another place to go to for grooming and wait for that appointment. None of this process was discussed with me when I booked the appointment either, or I could have made sure to stay on top of it. I guess if you are an "established client" this place is fine as they will keep your appointment. If you are new to the area (keep in mind, I also used to take my previous dog here when I lived here in 2008 but that doesn't count), don't count on this place. read more

Well my visit and experience to L&P's started off wonderful. They put on this huge front and pull you in a little fenced in area with your dog and play with it and talk to you about the grooming you are looking for. What a show compared to when I picked up my dog. First I received a text message that Chewi would be done in 15 minutes. I got in my car and headed over. I sent a text back that I was on my way and asked what the price was. To my complete shock I was told $82. My cocker spaniel is 9 and I have owned him his entire life. NEVER have I paid anything more than $60 for "the works" groom. With tip I wound up paying $94 for my dog to get a haircut.... The best part of this experience is when my dog came out after I paid and was half sedated, acting super weird and didn't even recognize me and would barely walk. Needless to say they will not be getting my business again. If you don't like dogs, then why work in the industry. What a shame! UPDATE: today my dog is still lethargic and sleeping a ton. He has never done this and was clearly sedated without my permission. DO NOT take your dog here!!! read more
