We have a huge, fat, jerk cat (Maine Coon) and a 100 year old, demented, anxious dog. I have to say the staff here do an amazing job with both animals. The cat has hair for days, and we get him shaved twice a year. Sure, he looks ridiculous, but it cuts down on the hair all over the house. The staff shave every square inch of him, and I mean EVERYTHING. I don't know how they do it (I can't even cut the bastard's nails without him freaking out), and I might not want to know, but I do know he comes home smelling so clean and groomed. I think he appreciates it, because he walks around like he owns the place with his new look. Our dog is at least 14 (she was a rescue 12 years ago), pretty demented, blind in one eye, and very anxious (she gets around well and has no real health problems, just so you know we're not prolonging her existence). She also comes back all fresh, shaved, and smelling fantastic. She's anxious when she goes, but comes back just fine. No trauma inflicted that we can tell. Some may feel the prices are high (about $100 with tip for both animals), but it's worth every. single. penny. to us. The only downside here is the length of time it takes to get an appointment, usually a 3-4 week wait time. So I suggest making your appointment ahead of time. read more

BAD - My friend boarded her extremely healthy 12 year old dog here and it died overnight. The company gave no explanation and the vet found tons of bites and scratches on the dog. Avoid-- they need to be looked into! read more

St. Louis Muttropolitan - Pet Groomers Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

I take my pitbull, Clyde to St. Louis Muttropolitan every few month. While we typically bathe him ourselves, it's nice to have him professionally groomed every once in a while to make sure all his nooks and crannies are superiorly cleaned. Plus, there is one particular grooming service that no one tells you about before you get your first dog. Muttropolitan has been my absolute favorite groomer since the first time we took Clyde for a bath. They are always super professional and very friendly. While some groomers can have fairly limited availability, I never have an issue when making an appointment for Clyde. During COVID, they have ample hand sanitizer available when you enter. You are required to wear a mask when you enter, and the entire staff also has masks on. Their space always feels very clean. As for the actual grooming, since Clyde is a short hair dog, his baths are pretty straight forward. I will say, I wish I knew what kind of shampoo they use on him. He is always so soft when I pick him up from his appointments. AND let's talk about scent. When we bathe him at home, he typically smells good for a day or so. But after a good grooming from Muttropolitan, he smells good for at least a week. It's a fresh scent that is just so pleasing. The prices at Muttroplitan are also so reasonable. For the dirty work they have to do, I'm always so surprised at how affordable their services are. This is definitely THE place to pamper your pooch. read more

I've taken my small shi-poo here since moving to the neighborhood about a year ago. Never had any problems. The last time I took her in was after she had recovered from a surgery. She was half shaved from that. I told them to shave her down so everything could grow out at the same time. When I made this last appt she had grown out and was pretty shaggy. At check in I told the girl to take her down 1/2 way and clean up her face. When I picked her up I paid and tipped right away before they brought her out. I was stunned! I picked up a completely shaved dog. Head, ears, body and tail!! That's not how a shi-poo is supposed to look. Thank God she will eventually grow back out but will not be going back there for grooming anymore!!!! read more

Groomed a few weeks ago- The staff is unfriendly on the phone and in person. I asked for a price estimate on the phone and when I dropped my dog off for a grooming appt and they wouldn't give me even a range. Needless to say it was higher than competing places. I asked them not to shave him and I picked up and saw that they shaved him. He's usually nervous with groomers and when I asked how he did, the response was one word, "fine." Maybe I'm asking for too much, but we won't be returning. read more

Very upsetting experience after multiple visits. They didn't give our dog his medication for the six nights he was there. We called and asked what happened, they said they DID give him his meds. They put the blame on us by saying "Maybe you miscounted" (He went in with 13 pills and came back with 13 pills). "All my staff is saying they have him his meds". We finally got a begrudging "...sorry, I can't be everywhere all the time", which sounded more like, what are you going to do about it? Terrible customer service I'm mortified our two dogs were there for almost a week. Staff seems to be stretched way too thin. Beware - you get what you pay for and sometimes not even that! read more

Absolutely careless place. Should have trusted my gut. Our dog is on pain medication- we dropped them off for 5 days for boarding while on vacation. Upon return, our dog had received NONE of his medication. The woman on the phone was incredibly rude and told me that I must have miscounted. Continued to lie and say he got it. I will never bring my dogs here again to these people who don't even take care to do one thing they said they would. Avoid at all costs. read more

Most of the employees here are amazing with dogs! I know there's been a high turn over of employees, but my dogs always love coming and never want to leave. They've been especially accommodating to me with having hip surgery. Vickie is an absolute saint and really goes out of her way to love and help me and my dogs however she can. They are very reasonably priced and the only place who have cut my dogs hair that she's not scared of and doesn't look like an idiot after (she has some crazy curly hair that goes in 10 different directions, other places make her look like that character Bucky from Grease ). Everyone is always nice to us and really makes my dogs feel loved. I'm not sure what's happening with mixed reviews, but I would recommend Mutt for their grooming alone. read more

Our dog Walter loves going to Muttropolitan. He has for over 7 years. When I drop him off it's like he won the damn lottery. He goes crazy! It's not a bougie place, so if that's what you're looking for perhaps it's not for. When he was pup and very high energy he did get roughed up once. No of us like our dogs getting hurt, but if you have a bunch of dogs together, conflicts will happen. I was initially upset about it but he was no worse for the wear. Our experience is that they are nice people and that Walter thinks it's Disney World. read more

It should just be known that when I brought my cat for a nail trim, I saw 3 signs in/on this business touting "blue lives matter" propaganda. If that info was available for me to know prior to arrival, I would've brought my money elsewhere. Needless to say, I found a new pet groomer since then. read more

OMG - you should see how cute my little kitty cat looks with her fresh LION CUT!!! Seriously, they did an amazing job - I literally don't know how they got it trimmed so perfectly, she even has little boots and her little tail is divine. Supposedly it's good for cats to get shaven every so often, especially if they are ultra furry like mine. And I'm sure it's great for a these hotSTL summers. read more

St. Louis Muttropolitan - Isn't she adorbs?! - Pet Groomers Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

The Reverend loves this place! Always comes back happy. Used to take him to petsmart and he was a different dog for a day or two. (So was my wallet!) They have no problem feeding him while getting his nails done, which shows they will go out of their way for a dog to be comfortable. Great with American Bulldogs and seem comfortable around all big dogs whenever I am in there. Messed up once on his nails, but partially my fault for letting them get so long. They didn't try hiding, bs'ing it or even placing the blame on me..came straight up to me and told me what happened and gave me some powder to stop the bleeding. Sometimes it does take a while for them to groom your dog, but what are you people complaining about?! Here's your chance to finally clean your house that smells like a dog! Recommend to all my friends whenever they get new pets! read more

I have had many positive experiences with St. Louis Muttropolitan! I have taken my Yorkie there multiple times for haircuts and they take the time to understand exactly what you want. I have also taken my Great Pyrenees there mutlipe times for the walk-in nail trims. He gets a lot of anxiety when his paws are touched so I appreciate they take their time with him and are gentle. read more

This is a really great pet grooming place! I started going to them because I wanted my new kitten to wear those Soft Claws plastic caps on her front nails. I couldn't manage to get them on alone and the veterinarian charges $60, anesthetizes the animal and if one falls off, you have to pay ANOTHER $60! Well, Muttropolitan does it for free while I wait! Walk in any time! What a blessing! So I started taking my dog there for cuts and baths. There was no problem with my usual place, except that they moved! They did a fantastic job first time! I think part of that was my doing though because I asked them to leave his fur a little longer and he looked so much better. I highly recommend them, but be warned, they don't board cats, only dogs. read more

About a year ago I worked as a bather at this location. Unfortunately I was let go, which was very painful. But as I read these reviews from previous employees, or their friends, couldn't help but to speak my mind... So here it goes.. Mary Catherine, as most of you know, has put her heart and soul into st louis muttropolitan. She did whatever it took to achieve her goal and even though I no longer work there. I couldn't be more proud! So all of you previous employees that were let go.. Move on with your life and stop trying to ruin hers. Posting reviews because you got fired is very immature and making up lies just so people will not come to St Louis muttropolitan is pretty low. There must be a reason you don't work there anymore. No matter the circumstances, I will forever support your team St Louis muttropolitan! Keep up the great work!!! read more

Great for grooming but I will not board my dog here again. My dog stayed here last weekend and we were able to watch him on the webcam, which I thought would be very cool to see. I was very disappointed however in what I saw. I saw staff members spraying him with water in the face a few times (i think he was trying to escape the yard when they did this). I also noticed he was isolated at times and even when there was a staff person in the room, they would completely ignore him. When I saw him isolated, I wondered if he had been aggressive or something else had happened, however when we picked him up the only thing they told us was that he was "an escape artist." I also do not think he got any sleep at all while he was there because when we got him he slept and slept and slept, which is not common for him. The place is okay, but if you want your dog to get any attention at all, I would not suggest boarding here. I will however consider still using them for grooming. read more

We have been going to St. Louis Muttropolitan for the past five years for dog grooming. They are affordable and do a great job with our shih tzu's cut. They have great hours and are pretty flexible with dropping off early or not being able to pick them up right away within reason. It's not the newest prettiest place like some of the other popular groomers but I don't need cutesy when I'm just getting my dog groomed. Sometimes they don't sound that friendly on the phone or when you drop off but I assure you they will take good care of your pooch. read more

I am a new employee as of October 24, 2017. At the same time, ownership changed hands. I have been witness to so many improvements in set up, staffing and the environment. If this place was great before, it is only getting better. There is always a little adjusting that occurs with change. I am excited to keep seeing the great clients who come in and to get to know the ones I haven't met yet. Having an owner who has 35+ years in the industry really makes a difference. She can answer questions ranging from grooming technique to proper cleaning to assessing/ correcting dog behavior. I have worked under cooperate management and small business owners that are less able. It isn't pretty. I love working where dogs come first! read more

I cannot say enough good things about Muttropolis. When you hand over your beloved pet, you have to know that the groomer will treat your pet with care and kindness. Muttropolis does this and more. I have taken my 100 pound German Shepherd there and he comes home looking handsome, smelling great and with a lot less shedding. He doesn't mind going and seems calm and well cared for when I pick him up. I have also taken my small dogs and the same is true. The staff and owner are top notch and you can trust them as well as know they will do a fine job. I highly recommend checking out St Louis Muttropolitan. read more

They were so much better when they were at smaller shop. Now it seems they have a high rate of staff turnover, and they keep getting younger & dumber. While, the grooming isn't as great as it used to be, I was never worried about leaving our cat in their care. After seeing some other reviews about treatment, I wonder if our experience isn't an isolated event. If they hadn't ignored our cat for hours, they would have noticed he needed medical attention & that he should have been taken, immediately to the vet (which is stated in their policy). When I questioned the groomer, she was nasty & unapologetic. And, while the owner apologized, the event was so egregious, they should have reimbursed me for the service. Tip: when you find a new groomer, get a tour of the entire facility, ask details about groomers' experience, and all shop policies regarding handling of your pet. If anyone hesitates to provide any of these essentials, LEAVE. read more

had an appointment to have our poodle's haircut and when I arrived the two girls behind the counter did not have masks on. The one went into the back and I told the one left standing that we had an appointment, but asked aren't you wearing masks? After I mentioned it a second time she reached down and put a mask on. I told her I prefer not to do business with an outfit that doesn't wear masks and walked out. They lost business for Devon. We won't be back. read more

I needed somewhere to take my new kitten Max to be groomed and after looking at the website and seeing all of the experience and reading the reviews I decided this was the place to try! Before I even got there I knew I had picked the right place! I was at home trying to get Max ready to go, I had bought a new cat carrier and was having so much trouble putting it together, and by trouble I mean there was no way I was going to figure this out on my own!! I called St Louis Muttropolitan and told them I was having issues and with no hesitation they told me to bring it up there and they would help me, which just goes to show you already how awesome they are :) When I walked in I was greeted with smiles and everyone there seemed genuinly happy to be there! As me and two girls started to work on the cat carrier another employee was cuddling and gushing over Max, which I just love because it shows you how much they really do love the animals that come in there! I left Max there for a few hours and when I came back to pick him up he smelled AMAZING!! He seemed so content and happy which made me feel great! I would 100% reccommend St Louis Muttropolitan to anyone! read more

I am really shocked to read the bad reviews of this place on here. I have been bringing my two long hair cats here for about a year, and my standard poodle for about 9 months. They have done a wonderful job each and everytime. I wouldn't call the staff full of sunshine and light, but they are always polite. They don't have many people working there, so it understandably may take them a minute or two to get up to the counter. They always give me a time estimate when I drop any of my pets off and if I haven't heard from them by that time, I usually call to check on my pet. Sometimes they are just finishing up and sometimes they ask for a bit more time. Not a problem. They usually ask when I drop them off if I need to pick them up by a particular time. I have never run into a problem with them. To the woman who left a review about the length of time required to groom a cat, three hours is to be expected in a busy grooming shop. The animal has to be bathed, dried and groomed. At the same time, they are probably going to be handling other animals. Also, from my experience there, only one groomer handles the cats, so its understandable that it may take longer. As to the quality of their work, I am always very pleased. I am very particular about the way my poodle is cut and they always follow exactly what I request. They go over her carefully to check for mats and trim her nails well. As to my two cats, I notice a remarkable difference in their shedding after getting groomed. One time they had just finished up my cats and put them into their kennel to call me, and one of the cats had an "accident" in the crate. They re-bathed her without extra charge or complaint to me, only mentioning it to me in case I wanted to further clean the kennel (they had already cleaned it out though). When I drop my pets off here, I always feel comfortable and know that when I pick up my pets, they will be bathed, groomed and happy. read more

Shortly after I adopted my cat, I bought a bunch of supplies for him. Food, toys, a cute little cat bed, and a furminator. Well...my cat loves everything except for the furminator. Walcott HATES the furminator. He hates being brushed in general. And since I'm tired of cat hair flying EVERYWHERE when I pet him, I decided to take him to get groomed. I'll let someone else be the bad guy. St. Louis Muttropolitan received good reviews, and more importantly, they were one of the few places that received good reviews for cat grooming. Finding a dog groomer is easy. A cat groomer? Hmm...not so easy. I called about a week ago to make an appointment. I requested Mary Anne for my groomer, and requested an appointment time of noon. I requested a bath and a 'REALLY thorough grooming'. Simple enough. I arrived today, about 10 minutes before my appointment time. I walked in, like a proud mama bringing her son to the first day of kindergarten. I walked up to the counter, and the less than friendly woman working the desk stared at me and mumbled, "someone will be with you in a minute". Shortly afterwards, one of the groomers came out. I told her that I had a noon appointment for a grooming, and she handed me a card to fill out. There were spaces for me to place my contact information, as well as some information on my cat. Name, any allergies, etc. And then she took Walcott and told me that he'd be ready 'in a few hours'. Holy shit, how long does it take to groom a cat?! I kept that thought to myself, assumed that he would receive an extra thorough grooming (because WHY ELSE would it take that long?) and left. About three hours later, I received a gruff phonecall that 'the cat was ready'. Excuse me if I'm being overly nitpicky here, but you can't even refer to my cat by his name? The name that I so carefully wrote on the information card you had me fill out? I came and picked up my cat, paid, and left. I arrived home and let him out of his carrier. He seemed fine, so I was glad to know that the groomers didn't freak him out or anything. I sniffed him. He smelled good! But then I petted him, and SO much fur went everywhere! Did they brush my cat at all? I was PISSED. He looked exactly the same. I can't believe I wasted $38 on this. Thanks for wasting my time, Muttropolitan. Never ever again. read more

When I picked up my small dog I got in the car and noticed a hole in his head. I went back inside and the young girl acted like it was no big deal. She comforted me by saying her dog had a tooth in his head once from another dog. No one called me to alert me to what happened. When I got home I noticed that there were additional wounds in his ears. I can imagine what happened to him, it must have been horrible. I called and the owner said "these things happen, sorry". She paid for my $110 vet bill but she didn't want me going to an "expensive vet/hospital". Luckily I was able to get him in the next day at my affordable vet. I took him back for daycare recently and requested him to be with small dogs only. I was thinking I could watch the webcam camera that is noted on the website to make sure things were on the up and up. When I got to work I called and there are no more cameras since Covid. I am not sure how Covid would affect a webcam being plugged in. Now my dog has a complex being around other dogs. I can see after my recent dog park visit his spirit is broken and he is not interested in playing with some dogs. read more

I love Muttropolitan and take my dog Chester there at least once a week for daycare. They also have a camera where you can watch your dog. The only concern I have is that someone isn't always IN the yard with the dogs. They are close by, but not actually in the pen which would make me feel a little better. Took my dog there for nail trimming and baths for 4 years and loved it. Had a bad experience with new faces around Thanksgiving and thought it was just a bad day and normal groomers were off. Went again in late February and more new faces with no previous knowledge made me feel uncomfortable at best. Add the fact the groomers' room was dark at 3:30 on a weekday and the two workers were preoccupied with another customer that had come in after me and couldn't corral their own car that was running loose in the customer area made me realize that while the building said the same on the front, this is definitely a different business being run there now. One star is too high of a rating. Will not return. read more
