Anthony Sciascia, MD - Dr. Anthony Sciascia

I am writing in regard to my experience as a post-operative patient of Dr. Anthony Michael…read moreSciascia, II, MD (License No.: 16951), (Dr. Sciascia for future references), an Emergency Physician with Renown Health Systems. The following link will take you the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners where you can enter his last name and review his previous medical background and training (https://nsbme.mylicense.com/verification/Search.aspx). Earlier this week, I had the misfortune of interacting with Dr. Sciascia in one of the Emergency Rooms (ER) associated with Renown Medical Center. I have never come into contact with such a rude, condescending, and offensive health care provider. I should note that I, too, am a doctor and Federal Law Enforcement Officer, so I deal with difficult personalities on a daily basis. I would also like to note that I would never treat any of my patients, no matter who they are or what they've done, the way Dr. Sciascia treated me. This is unacceptable, and I intend on bringing this to the attention of anyone who may come into contact with this physician, someone who should not be allowed to treat patients. When I went to the ER, I was two days post-op, and in a considerable amount of pain. As I previously mentioned, I was unlucky to have Dr. Sciascia pick up my case. From the first moment I met him, there was something odd about his demeanor and he had the worst bedside demeanor I have ever witnessed. My friend that accompanied me to the ER said the exact thing, and she actually picked up on this vibe before I did. As an aside, all of the nurses were flabbergasted by my account of what occurred during my interactions with Dr. Sciascia. Long story short, Dr. Sciascia essentially accused me of drug-seeking, and told me that he didn't believe that I was actually experiencing pain, despite being 2 days postop. Dr. Sciascia was literally trying to instigate an argument with me, which I refused to engage in. He compared to me heroin addicts, which I am not, as well as misusing my pain medication, which I did not. Dr. Sciascia then compared me to other patients he has seen with "broken bones sticking" sticking out of their skin and that they refused to take any medication at all. First of all, I dislike being compared to other people, especially when their injuries are not even close to what my surgery or pain entailed. As a man, Dr. Sciascia does not know how painful certain 'female conditions' can be, so it is extremely rude to dismiss as if it meant nothing. Dr. Sciascia invalidated the pain I was experiencing, and I refuse to let anyone treat or speak to me in such a manner. Prior to being released from the ER, he informed me that I was going to be prescribed Gabapentin, a drug with which I am familiar. Gabapentin, also known as Neurontin, is a medication used for neuropathic pain, not postoperative pain. I asked Dr. Sciascia how that would be helpful in my situation, and he literally said, "I don't know." My friend advocated for me by asking for something that actually helped me, and he switched it to a muscle relaxant, which I refuse to take. I am unfamiliar with that medication, and I have lost trust in doctors in Renown's ER. More than one nurse I came into contact with during my several hour stint in the ER informed me that Dr. Sciascia "has a really weird demeanor...[and] has no bedside manner." They said more, but I hope you get where I am coming from. I will be taking this to the medical board of NV, as well as any site on which a review can be posted. Dr. Sciascia caused more harm than good, as I was extremely upset when leaving the ER, and I was still in pain. Given that I have only had one experience with Dr. Sciascia, I cannot comment on his overall competence as an ER Physician, and it would be unethical of me to do so. I can only speak to my personal experience with Dr. Sciascia, which was so horrific that I will never return to that ER for fear of coming into contact with him again. I am writing this review in hopes that others will read this and steer clear of Dr. Sciascia, if at all possible. If you want to be treated like a human being, find another doctor. Further, as a doctor myself (not an MD), I am a strong advocate for those who may not have the knowledge, access, or resources to go up against a physician. This is NOT over. Thank you for reading.

My boyfriend broke out with giant blotchy rashes all over his body for no apparent reason one day…read more We visited an urgent care, only to wait almost 3 hours for them to tell us to go to the ER. We were so frustrated, however I am glad that Dr. Sciascia (pronounced "Sha-sha") was able to treat him. Although the ER was incredibly busy that day, Dr. Sciascia made an effort to find the root of the problem without pushing him to have unnecessary medications, labs, etc. He suggested some over the counter meds we could purchase, gave us a prescription, and referred him to an allergist. Most importantly, he took the time to answer all of our questions and check on him before we left. It was the most efficient and caring ER visit we had. Plus, he's hilarious and super personable. Highly recommended!

DO NOT COME HERE!!…read more If I could give zero stars I would. This was the biggest waste of time I've ever experienced. I walked in at three when my appointment was at three and I waited 38 minutes to see the doctor. The nurse came back and asked a bunch of questions and wrote them on paper... Yes I said it paper! They do not have an electronic system, they are still on paper files. They should've been the biggest red flag for me to run. Ugh!! Then the overweight & extremely old doctor came in and said I think you have the wrong specialist. He didn't want to give me the time of day and didn't even care to really listen because he had already made up his mind about me. He was extremely rude and condescending, and really impatient. He kept repeating "well did your throat close up" like that is the only symptom of an allergy. I guess the only plus side is that he said he wouldn't charge me for wasting my time. He then had the audacity to say "I hope this helps" and I got the chance to say nope... You did not help me one bit you wasted my time. Very frustrated and I do not recommend coming here ever!! Find a younger, kinder, up-to-date doctor that's living in the 21st-century. Office was old, small, and it was very hot in there! I will say it one more time... They are still on the paper system. Yikes!

I started to cry and he said he wont charge me since he didn't do anything. He didn't even give me the time of day! I have never felt so offended by a person I didn't even know. He was so unprofessional and did not help me at all. I felt devastated. I bawled all the way to my car.

I had reservations about Dr. Hogan's care of my son from the first visit…read more The office, is poorly maintained, crowded and inconvenient. The staff is unprofessional. I still am unable to receive the medical records I have requested several times in the last year. Dr. Hogan has horrible bedside manner! Her medical advice is confusing and contradicting. Being that she is one of only a few pediatric allergists in town, we had no choice but to use her for several visits. She treated myself and my husband as if we were personally attacking her and our questions were the stupidest thing she had ever heard. She REFUSED to work with us on blood tests, medication and action plans. Our questions were never directly answered and future treatments plans were never given. We always left frustrated with many more questions. We have since visited our pediatrician and another allergist who have given us different medical advice. This makes us question how Dr. Hogan treated our son for the last year.

My family found Dr. Hogan to be a good doctor in her thoroughness, expertise and demeanor…read morethroughout her care for my son. However, when we needed her office staff to complete an authorization for our school's nurse to administer a med previously prescribed by Dr. Hogan, we learned that their policy forbade it, despite our son being put at-risk if the med could not be administered. They clearly displayed a concern for liability taking precedent over ensuring the well-being of our son. In this multi-day dealing, the head nurse and office manager were intractable, disrespectful and at moments, downright rude. The head nurse even hung up on my wife in the middle of a phone conversation. Once we reached the end of this very disagreeable set of interactions, we called my son's pediatrician and he and his office had a new prescription to us and an authorization completed and sent to the school nurse in less than 24 hours. We are firing this doctor, will seek out a new one and will be sure and encourage anyone that we come across who needs an allergist to look elsewhere.

When searching for a pediatrician I reviewed a lot of websites of providers around town. The first…read morething that stood out to me about Reno Pediatricians was their very clear non-discrimination policy listed right on their website. They were the only office in town with that. Then, we set up a a prenatal consultation with Dr. Riar and immediately knew she was the doctor for us! She was as knowledgeable about pediatrics as she was personable. She is also very supportive of a parents rights to choose what's best for their child. They do require you to follow the CDC vaccine schedule, but everything else is whatever you think is best for your baby. She was supportive of our home birth plan and was okay with us bringing the baby ASAP after birth. But we transitioned to the hospital for birth and she was supportive of that too. She visited our baby every day we were at Renown. Unfortunately they just moved locations and the new office isn't as conveniently located. But that's okay, this provider is worth the extra parking steps!

*United Healthcare accepted here*…read more My rating is based on Dr. Riar; not the interior, not the front office staff, but again, Dr. Riar. I recently registered my children with Dr. Riar here at Reno Pediatrics, and I couldn't have found a more fitting doctor. She asked various questions to learn about my daughters development, habits, diet, etc, which I loved. She's not an "in and out" kind of doc and to parents everywhere, that matters. When I say she's fitting, this is because she's very firm and straight-forward. She tells you what needs to be done to better the health of your children without running around the bush, whilst reflecting on her own experiences as a mother. Now... everything else. Environment: When you walk in, the environment is kind of cold. Other pediatric offices are colorful, inviting for children, providing games, books, or toys, but not this one. Which, really isn't a bad thing. You can either go to a pediatrician who has all the fluff going on but doesn't care, or you can go to a regular-shmegular looking doctor office like this one, and actually get a doc who doesn't rush your appointment and gets to know your kid. Front office staff: The front staff could be a little livelier, you know? A little smile wouldn't hurt, lol. Again, is it a big deal? No. Wait time: What wait? lol. We went right in! Just how mama likes it! Location: Behind Renown, between Mill and E 2nd (I think).
