I had my own personal Sewing Retreat for the weekend and it was fantastic! =) As far as nearby attractions, I only ventured out once when I took the 25 minute drive to Llano, Texas. It was a super cute town with several boutiques, gift shops, restaurants, and 2 quilt stores (which were my main motivator for leaving the cottage). There's also a Family Dollar. There are also nearby wineries and a Country Store with plenty of basics plus made to order pizza, salads, and sandwiches. I personally recommend bringing some food, some wine and comfy clothes and just hanging out to enjoy the scenery. Be sure to do some star gazing at night and get up for the sunrise - it's AMAZING!

Kris is a wonderful host, having thought of everything I would need during my stay and going way above-and-beyond to make it a perfect escape while some work was being done on my house. ...but what about the *really* important stuff? Let us explore the things which are important to every guest, but reviews always seem to omit! There is plenty of natural light through the many windows, but the rays of sunrise do not scream through the bedroom windows, bombarding photons into your eyelids while you are trying to sleep until a reasonable hour. The water pressure in the shower lies right in the Goldilocks zone; gentle enough to be relaxing, but firm enough that you do not have to spend 30 minutes rinsing to stop feeling soapy. Oh, speaking of Goldilocks, I found the queen bed to be juuust riiight. This place comes with a free dog rental included! Bonus! Sam is an awesome, friendly, and well-behaved pup. There is a large, open space between the well-stocked kitchen and cozy living room. You could totally do yoga here! Note: I said *you*, not me. I am way too clumsy for that and the helpful guide book that Kris provides does not indicate the location of the nearest chiropractor. Other reviews have mentioned the place is clean. Very true. I will go beyond to say this place passes the UV light test easily. Clean!!! You will be about a five-minute walk away from one of the best pizza joints in the city and also a cool, local coffee shop that also has a large variety of beers on-tap. Oh, you can also easily walk to laundry or the grocery store, if instead you are in the mood to do something not fun. Yes, there is coffee provided! It is not one of those stale, swill-producing little pouch things that most hotels try to pass off as "in-room coffee." No. Here you get an actual coffee pot, with actual ground beans, for an actual cup of actual coffee. Same for the refrigerator. It is not the kind you had in college; it is a grown up refrigerator. There are no fresh-baked cookies provided upon check-in. Awww... However, the grocery store (easy walk or drive) will happily sell you a pack of bake-at-(guest)home cookie dough, or cookie dough ice cream - whichever way your mood is swinging. A huge selection of board games are provided, and they are not missing any cards or pieces! The water heater is tankless! Family of five all needing showers? No problem! Hot water forever. This is a house, with a real thermostat, which lets you select real temperatures! Unlike that wall-mounted contraption in a hotel room which only allows you to choose between "keep me up all night by being miserably hot" or "keep me up all night by making a bunch of noise." The Brentwood Guest House is wonderful! Not only on the big points (super clean, convenient, safe, and comfortable), but it excels at the smaller details too!

If you have a family, this is your place. For the same price that you would pay (okay, less) for a hotel elsewhere in Austin, you can bunk everyone. We stay in the king suite, meaning adults get a separate bedroom and children get the pull-out couch in the living room. Other configurations are available that are suitable for larger families or groups. There is no elevator, so be prepared to carry luggage upstairs. The room has a full kitchen, so you're not forced to eat out every night. Breakfast is included, and we're not talking waffles and cereal. The breakfast menu changes daily (choose from three selections), but you can also ask for whatever you like. The first day I had a bowl with steamed broccoli, potatoes, eggs, spinach and cheese. Yum! The next day I had eggs, tomato and spinach over wheat toast. Oatmeal is available, as are biscuits and gravy, bagels, and the rest of the regular lineup. Locally sourced greek yogurt and honeys are available as well. Fresh fruit is offered daily. On Day 2 that meant papaya. Yummy! Each evening offers free beer and wine with snacks, featuring their homemade salsa. My plans in Austin meant I never made it to this, which I consider a failure on my part. The grounds are beautiful, and feature fruit trees and herbs. A guide to what grows where is available in the lobby. Why should you not stay here? You want the five-star experience with bright shiny new everything (there's some peeling wallpaper in places, but everything is clean and well-maintained). You want to party loudly until all hours of the morning. Habitat keeps quiet hours from 9 pm to 8 am. I tend to stay out most of the day and return to sleep, so this place is right at my speed. It's hard for me to think of reasons you wouldn't want to stay here, but I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea. I did have enough time this visit for some hanging out at the pool, and that was delightful. Habitat Suites are located across from a branch of Austin Community College. This area is undergoing revitalization, which is helpful for the Habitat Suites, I think. On our previous visit, the neighborhood looked a little sketchy. I didn't get that feeling with this visit. I recently attended a wedding in Austin, TX. I found a great 2 bedroom condo to stay in while there. The place was very close to everything in the downtown and Lake Austin area. We were able to walk to some of the local restaurants. Not only was the place immaculate but they left us some snacks that we thoroughly enjoyed during our stay and the coffee was fantastic. Check in was super easy and the management company was very responsive when I had some questions. They left some great information about Austin and some of their favorite spots to eat and shop. This tucked away hidden gem of a hotel was a great find right off 360. You follow up the narrow…read morewinding road that leads you to the hotel, parking garage and Apple campus. It's a bit confusing where to park as I don't like to do valet and it's a walk from the garage to the hotel. I made the mistake of going to the back where the pool is following an employee. Then realized I needed to walk back down and around to the entrance to check in. The hotel is beautiful and gives the feel of being in the Italian countryside. The lobby is welcoming and the flowers look real even though they're artificial. The bar is very welcoming and good vibes all around. My friend and I had a bit of a staycation and found the room clean, spacious and loved the kitchenette and comfortable bed. A complimentary bottle of wine and water was a nice touch. We could actually enjoy the bottle with wince glasses. The bathroom was spacious but a shower only. I opted to leave my phone in the room to really focus on the present and not scrolling on my phone. So sadly no pictures. We booked massages in the spa. I've been to many hotel spas and this set up was rather disjointed and confusing. Coming out of the elevator (which was decorated with a Tuscan painting on the back wall) the spa shop was there but the door was locked and nobody inside. We waited for a bit until a woman saw us and came from down the hall to check us in. We had booked online and upgraded to a deep tissue massage. While the charge was there, it didn't seem to convey to her screen. She finally said okay just head down the hall, you're all checked in. So we go down the hall and find the door to the spa and really didn't know where to go. One of our therapists came out and handed us a paper to fill out as we sat on the lounge chairs and then said we could go into the dressing room to change into a robe and put our things in the lockers. We arrived an hour early to possibly enjoy the sauna or steam shower but weren't told anything. So we came back out in our robes, barefoot and filled out the short consent form and waited. There were a couple of ladies who had finished their facials or whatever service and were chairing....yet we sat there waiting for some guidance. My therapist was Hilary. The table was comfortable but not heated and she demonstrated a drop for your boobs which was interesting and a nice touch and turned on the heated table but it wasn't ever really warm. It was not by any means a deep tissue massage. More what I call a fluff and buff. I felt like I was being massaged by a massage student applying oil but didn't really wanting to touch me. I kept saying you can go deeper and use your elbows but she didn't. What she massaged on one side wasn't the same routine on the other. I think the massage was only about 45 minutes long. The hot towels were a nice touch but she kept walking away for long gaps in-between. She seemed distracted. Then after the massage, she mentioned the sauna and other amenities but at that point we had dinner reservations and needed to get ready in the room. So sadly had to decline as that should've been offered in the beginning and then the therapist come and collect us when it was time for our appointment. Maybe a tour of the spa and a better explanation should've been offered. After we got changed, once again nobody was in the shop part to check out. For the price, the service was not worth it. Same woman came from down the hall and came in and had trouble with the check out and charge. So fantastic hotel and amenities but the spa needs room for improvement. Especially since most guests have never been there before and from out of town. That's why I couldn't give a full 5 stars.

Having spent 20+ years in hospitality, travel and the spa industry, including experience with…read moreSpafinder, i-SPA, Four Seasons and Marriott, I tend to notice the details. I've also experienced extraordinary five- and even six-star properties, and I've learned that true luxury isn't simply about what has been spent--it's consistency, attention to detail, anticipatory service and, most importantly, people who understand hospitality. My best friend, Janel, and I took two days to simply be together and literally open the calendar to plan some of her future travels. With her children now in college, she's at a wonderful stage of life where she wants to see the world and experience the best of the best--five-star hotels, exceptional restaurants and memorable experiences. Hotel Viata seemed like the perfect setting. The property is gorgeous--an Italianate gem tucked into the Texas Hill Country, with a sense of escape while still convenient to Austin. And then there is Ashley Quarles, Director. Honestly: How in the world is Ashley everywhere, and does she ever sleep? She was there when I checked in. She was there at the spa. When something needed attention, she was there. When I had a question or offered feedback, she was there--and genuinely wanted to hear it. After 20+ years in this industry, I recognize the difference between someone doing a job and someone taking ownership of the guest experience. Ashley takes ownership. She is warm, gracious, professional, responsive and remarkably receptive. Nothing seemed to be "someone else's department." If it affected a guest, she cared. I don't say this lightly: Ashley Quarles is a significant reason Hotel Viata operates at the level it does. Beautiful properties can be built. Genuine hospitality comes from people. The pool was a highlight. It is secluded, peaceful and exceptionally maintained. Every chaise lounge and piece of outdoor furniture was beautifully cared for, with plentiful, beautifully presented towels. I've stayed at five- and six-star properties where pool furnishings weren't maintained this well. Someone here is paying attention. I also loved the live DJ poolside. Rather than generic piped-in music, an actual DJ quietly and discreetly created the atmosphere. The music enhanced the experience without interfering with conversation--sophisticated, relaxed and beautifully done. Gabe, the pool and lounge/bar manager, was fantastic. He was present, knowledgeable, personable and refreshingly candid. He listened to what we liked and recommended what he genuinely thought we would enjoy--even steering us away from something he didn't think was right for us. That is anticipatory service rather than simply taking an order. The spa is where I saw the greatest opportunity for refinement. It is intimate and boutique, but luxury spa hospitality begins before the treatment. Janel wasn't escorted to her locker or provided spa footwear, and her heated massage table wasn't functioning properly and was actually cool, requiring her to request another blanket. These things didn't ruin the experience; they are opportunities. It's those seemingly small details that transform a good massage into an exceptional luxury spa experience. I shared them with Ashley, who listened without defensiveness and genuinely wanted to know. I left believing she would actually do something with the feedback. Dinner was fantastic--quality ingredients, beautiful preparation and presentation. And Luis was magnificent. He is a true mixologist who understands his craft and can explain the ingredients and thought behind his creations. More importantly, he understands anticipatory service. He listened to what we were looking for and essentially said, "Let me show you what I think you'll love." He was right. Our room was beautiful, with exceptionally comfortable beds, wonderful linens and a luxurious sense of space. We did have a temperamental telephone and a toilet that wasn't functioning quite properly. There were also small arrival-service inconsistencies involving assistance to the room and obtaining ice. These should be addressed, but they didn't define our stay. After two decades in hospitality, I've learned: No property is perfect. What matters is what happens when something isn't perfect. Hotel Viata already has the difficult pieces--a gorgeous property, beautiful rooms, excellent food, an exceptionally maintained pool and people who care. The smaller inconsistencies can be fixed. Gabe demonstrated genuine hospitality at the pool. Luis demonstrated it at dinner. And Ashley Quarles demonstrated it everywhere. Janel and I came to relax, reconnect and dream about where her next adventures might take her. We left thoroughly enjoying Hotel Viata and appreciating the people who took care of us. Beautiful hotels are easy to find. Beautiful hotels filled with people who genuinely understand hospitality are much rarer. Hotel Viata has those people.

Located on the topmost floor, Nido offers stunning views of the river and downtown Austin. With both indoor and outdoor seating, the ambiance is elegant and ideal for a special evening. During our visit, we saw a couple of groups celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries, which shows how perfect this place is for special occasions. The pricing is on the higher side, but it matches the upscale experience and beautiful setting. For dinner, we ordered the Burrata as an appetizer and the Autumn Garden for the main course, along with an American IPA and a Jack Frost cocktail. Everything was delicious, but the Burrata truly stood out as my favorite. Breakfast was equally enjoyable--we had custom-made omelettes with veggies and avocado toast, both fresh and flavorful. Overall, The Loren Hotel, along with Nido, offers a great blend of comfort, excellent food, and a beautiful atmosphere. A perfect choice if you're looking to celebrate something special or simply treat yourself to a high-end experience.

It' just as beautiful inside as it is outside. It's fresh, modern, earthy and just plain cool. The rooms are massive and it feels so nice to spread out and be able to work at a huge desk. The lobby check-in was easy and the front desk staff was so friendly and helpful. I tried their 8th floor restaurant for dinner and was floored- it is a MUST if you stay here (but that will be a separate review.) I would also like to recognize front desk attendant Thomas for his amazing Customer Service! He was so proactive in ordering our food and beverage when he knew that we didn't have time or we were late and the restaurant was not available. Thank you Thomas!

The pool was relatively kid friendly. Not many kids, but also groups who were friendly towards children. You can order canned beer and select menu items (the fries are amazing!) from the restaurant, poolside. I would recommend walking in to the bar if you want a cocktail. The plants at carpenter are so nicely done and gorgeous. They also have a cute little shop with their goods. Rooms are comfortable and a bit similar to the Ace Hotel Palm Springs!

First of all, the view of Lake Travis from the villa is amazing! My wife and I stayed in the "Milan" room, 800sq ft of comfort and luxury, for our anniversary. From the huge living room with a view of Lake Travis, to the big comfy bed, to the jacuzzi-style tub in the bathroom, we felt like we were staying at a 5-star hotel. The staff and manager were incredibly friendly and helpful and laid back! I could only find a few issues with the villa. There were hairs in our tub, so I cleaned it myself prior to my wife and I using it (which I didn't mind doing, as I am not snobby or beneath a little cleaning). Also, the bathroom window has no blinds or curtain, so when other guests decide to venture down to our patio, we have to be lucky not to be showering or standing nude at the time that they do. However, these couple little things are not enough to make me lower my rating of the place! Overall, the villa is amazing! A nice place to have that luxury feeling while being the perfect place to relax! I HIGHLY recommend this place for romantic getaways or for relaxation getaways. My wife and I would love to go again sometime for another mini romantic getaway from the kids.
