6-13-24 Dinner Came here for my last night , visiting my friends in Pike Road. This restaurant is closest to their home. My friend's daughter said the owner also is known for barbecue so you can get not only Mexican but barbecue meats. We started with frozen margaritas being it is so hot out. I got strawberry which was delicious. Believe me one drink was plenty and it was so good. We shared a small guacamole which was a generous sized portion for the three of us. Also we had salsa and chips. Both were very fresh and delicious. For my main course I had a poblano pepper with cheese. It was delicious. My only issue was that most restaurants that I go to give you two peppers and I only got one. It came with rice and beans however. Service was outstanding very nice clean restaurant. I am hesitant to report on this location. It's kinda our favorite quiet place, close to home. Not many restaurants way east in Pike Road. This exit just has two gas stations, and a coffee drive thru. First, Loco's is authentic. That's why not too many "cuellos rojo" embrace it. The food is truly authentic, despite catchy gringo names for the tacos. That's just to make it easier on us gueros. The parking lot has amazing old cedars, the exterior is stone. The interior is sparse and clean, with a few neon lights at the small bar, and some B&W pics of Old Mexico. We usually get the gaucho, el Pastor, and Cowboy tacos. Wife loves the Cowboy, which is a carne asada taco c cilantro and purple onions. Simple, but amazing with a squeeze of lime. The way tacos should be. We haven't gotten the larger entrees, because the tacos are so simple, tasty and filling. The food comes out lightning fast. We have not often waited long to eat, sometimes we're in and out in 15-20 minutes. Churros are on small side, but they have a cream cheese filling. Which makes them filling. They're awesome and like everything, really fresh. I haven't had the mixed drinks, but the Modelos are cold, with a frosty glass. read more

The food is some of the best in the area. Fridays and Saturday they have the best barbecue in town.. you can order the barbecue Special, which consist of brisket, chicken wings, pork, and sausage along with fried okra and fries. You cannot eat it. All Carlos and his brother had been in the barbecue business for 20 years plus. What a fantastic little off-the-beaten-path stop! Tried several of their tacos and got kids' meals for the kiddos -- prices are great and they have a lot of variety on their menu. My sister was raving about the El Autentico - my fave of the three I ordered was the El OG but all were great. This place is an absolute gem! Tacos: overall very good. I was pleasantly surprised to see one Korean themed "Hey Seoul Sister". It had some korean bbq sauce on it which was sweet but well balanced. My personal favorite was actually the El Autentico - which I didn't expect at all. Enchilada: My husband ordered these, and in my opinion they are one if the best I've tasted around Montgomery. It tasted simple and delicious. Im usually not a fan of enchiladas, but the ones here I would go for. Salsa trio: SO GOOD. They serve three types if salsa, and they are all fragrant with fresh spices and herbs. It was delicious. Their jalapeño/cilantro salsa was my favorite because it was so different and refreshing. I've never had salsa like that and it was really interesting. Margarita: Good. My only question is, why is the strawberry margarita served in a glass twice the size of others? Environment: Very chill, great atmosphere. There were 2 families with smaller children when we went. The dining area is very clean, nice windows that bring plenty of light, and Edison bulbs that add a touch of character. I would recommend everyone to check this place out! read more

This was an experience- not just a meal! No matter if you live near Montgomery Alabama or just passing through.....it is a MUST to locate LOCOS and treat yourself to an excellent meal fresh from Mexico. The menu is so creative - the food is delicious with a wide variety of tacos and so much more. The taco shells - tortilla- are made fresh and I could eat just those alone - they are that good. But the menu has some exciting taco names and toppings- and side dishes. The charros are a meal on their own - one of my husband's favorite side dish offered. The last time I was able to enjoy a water type drink refreshing as their "Aguas Frescas" - I was in Mexico. We stopped here for a quick bite on our Thanksgiving road trip. Service was fast and friendly, and the free chicharrones were a nice surprise. The guacamole was fresh and yummy and the churro beans our server recommended were awesome. My son enjoyed his chicken tenders, my husband enjoyed the carne asada and Seoul Sister taco, and I thought the brisket taquitos were really nicely executed. We just ate at Locos Taqueria and had an outstanding experience! If you don't need a bunch of details, just go eat there and see for yourself. But for those who like details I'll continue. My husband, myself and our 4 kids enjoyed the food there SO MUCH on our trip through Alabama! The food was SO flavorful and authentic and affordable! The kids split a couple of their bowls of cheesy rice and chicken and it was so scrumptious! There was a generous amount of cheese on all of the rice and more than enough for two little kids to split with leftovers. They substituted veggies for meat on my husband's quesadilla and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. I got the vegetable taco and it was so fresh, hot and seasoned perfectly! If the mouthwatering food was the only good thing to speak of, I'd give it 10/10, but that wasn't all! The service was also exceptional. Our drinks never ran out, chips were refilled without asking, (the salsa was perfectly spicy and tasted fresh and zesty btw), the waitress kindly helped us with deciding what to get and helped make a custom dish for my vegetarian husband. When we were finished with our meal, a man who we assumed was the owner came out to check on us for a second time. He asked if we'd like a sample of banana pudding. This "sample" was 4 little bowls with large scoops of fresh, sweet, creamy banana pudding. My husband is a big fan of banana pudding and he said this was the best he'd ever had! The atmosphere was also great with great music and decor. Since moving two states away just to be able to eat there weekly is a bit unrealistic, we will absolutely be planning future trips south around stopping by there. This place GAS. Best place I've eaten all week. Stopped here on the way back from Sandestin (pls don't go to The Beachhouse I spent my entire life savings on cheap nachos.) Locos Taqueria on the other hand has fresh salsa, and the best tacos all for cheaper than a single Bloody Mary at The Beachhouse. I wish this place was in Atlanta so I could go all the time. The banana pudding was bomb and I don't even usually like banana stuff. The staff is amazing and courteous. You gotta go! I grew up in east Montgomery in the 1980s and don't remember there being much out past exit 6. I've watched Montgomery move east as I've come back through the years. More growth past exit 6, then exit 9, then exit 11. But I certainly did not expect a rock-star taco spot at exit 16. In fact, when my girls yelped "tacos" while driving through east Montgomery and found this place, I was hesitant that something further east would be any good. I was wrong. Small, quaint and completely aware of the prices one should pay for simple tacos. I paid ~$30 for four of us (one drink, no beer). Plenty of people coming and going while we were there, which is always a good sign. No free chips and salsa, but they have a Salsa Trio that includes three bowls and bottomless chips. (They DO give every table a small batch of chicharrones (fried pork skins)). Well-named tacos ($2.50-$3.50 each) including traditional (El Pastor), slight tweaks to traditional (El Autentico, Sweet Carolina-A (BAP, BAP, BAH)), and unique (El Baja, El O.G., El Beachacho) (I had to give you some names--clever marketing). My daughter and I got four different ones and tested all. If I had more time, I'd work my way down the list. Cool points: The owner (I presume...) came out to ask a question about my daughter's order (no MSG). He even showed us what he'd use to make her meal and told us how he'd do it. Classy. In summary, I've been a taco connoisseur for decades (#shrimptacotuesday every Tuesday while living in Hawaii) and always look for these types of places. I make my own, including home-made corn torts. It's not hard to get these right, but it's easy to screw them up. They are getting it right. read more
