Just wanted to give a shout out to Cucos Mexican Cafe. I had them cater a graduation party for me this past weekend and it was awesome!!! The guests all raved over the food! Pulled up to get the food (they offered to deliver but it was not needed) and never had to load one thing myself. They thought of everything! The food was hot, tasted wonderful and was more than enough! Love going there to eat and the catering is just as good! Pricing was very reasonable also!! I have used them for work events as well and had them deliver and they even stayed and served! I can't say enough good things about them! I grew up eating at Cucos off of Green Springs in Birmingham, but it's been closed for decades at this point, so we have to come to Montgomery to get our Cucos fix! We decided to pick up food to go for my family for our Father's Day celebration (it's my dad's favorite restaurant). I cannot say enough about the service! We came in and ordered a massive amount of food and the lady was so patient taking our order and the food was ready so quickly (10 minutes)!!! They also sold chips and salsa in catering sizes. Trust me. You need to buy this in bulk. Their salsa is SO GOOD! Fresh and with chunks of tomatoes and onions in it. There is actually yumminess to pick up with your crisp chip, not watery at all. Full of flavor!! As my mom would say, "it's worth the drive to Montgomery just for salsa" haha. We LOVE their refried black beans and their special sauce that goes on the burritos should be bottled and sold! I always get extra to smother my burrito with. It's just a high quality casual Mexican-style food experience! They have plenty of seating at this location (main restaurant and a patio - fully enclosed). Choke and puke! We have been coming here for years on our way home from our annual beach trip. And before that we were loyal customers at all locations including Birmimgham for the last 15 years. The quality and service has been declining year after year. This year the steak fajita was shaved frozen steak. The beans were rock hard and dry. In the past the steak was strips of tender beef that drove us back out of our way to enjoy our final leg of our trip. We will not be back. read more

The food was ok, but the server was AWFUL. We were a big group of volleyball players and families, eating after a game. We were trying to make it easy on the waitress by just ordering for our children so that she wouldn't have to figure out who was on who's check, because all the kids were sitting together and all the adults were sitting at a different table. The waitress proceeds to tell my daughter that she's not going to let us order for her, that she will take her order. Then she asked really loudly "Who are the parents trying to order for this girl?" I said it was us, and she said "No, she is gonna order for herself." 1.) We were just trying to help. 2.) don't ever ever ever, as a stranger, tell my child to do something outside of what I have asked them to do, and definitely don't tell me that she's NOT going to do it. So things didn't start off well. But I've worked in restaurants so I thought maybe she was just having an off night. From there, we ordered drinks and it took 20 minutes to get waters. Someone brought them and sat them a few tables over and they just sat there until we finally got up and served them ourselves. A couple of other girls came in a few minutes late and when the waitress came back around, my daughter tried to tell her that the new girl had not ordered. The waitress told her that she had already taken everyone's order and then told my 12-year-old, somewhat shy daughter, "don't tell me how to do my job." My daughter did not tell me about this until we left. Fast forward through the very average meal, several people didn't get what they asked for, several people got their food way later than others, we all sat there for 20 more minutes waiting on checks, when we got the checks they were incorrect. I won't be back. The only reason I gave it two stars is because I always feel bad giving a one-star review to a restaurant, or any business really, because I know that sometimes the owners have no idea what their employees are doing. But this was an awful experience. I don't have the servers name, but this was the night of September 16, and I'm sure whoever was working the bar remembers because we kept having to go to the bar to get refills on drinks, to get our checks fixed, etc. read more

Let's start off with the absents of salt on the chips, good Salsa, and the meal was tasteless. Again my tacos were pork on a hard shell. If you have ever been to Mexico, I spent 4 years on the border @ Del Rio, TX. These Taco's w were tasteless nor was any sauce on them. They and the burrito were lacking any taste or spices. It's OK to offer salt less food but there should be an alternative for those not on a sodium reduced diet. Nothing had any taste, and the refried bean were just as bad. Lady Server did not check on table but was eyeing us the entire visit. I pulled napkins from my purse to avoid confusion. He will be right back!!! We paid with cash and was given the wrong amount of change $60.00 I notified waitress and manager who were at the bar talking. While the restaurant is clean and the lunch plates cheap the food is mediocre. I ordered the choriqueso (cheese dip with chorizo) and the steak quesadilla. The dip is made with velvetta instead of the normal white cheese I get and was ok. The chips were really good though! The steak quesadilla was tiny and bland. Been here now a handful of times with my girlfriend and her son. Having grown up on the border, I'm always in search of good Mexican food. This place is by no means my favorite in town, but it's a nice change. It's also nice that they give you 10% off if you bring your church bulletin on Sundays. I agree with some other reviewers. Service can be an issue, but the last couple times we had that same server and she was pretty good. The food we had last night was fantastic. My GF had steak tacos and her son had a perfectly cooked steak. Perfectly. Cooked. Our order came out a tad wrong, but it was ok. Not enough to complain about. What irritates me most about this place has nothing to do with the food or service. It's the way people park out front. Food was good, but slowest service I've ever received in a Mexican restaurant. Popped in for a "quick" lunch at 12:30. They weren't very busy and only 2 people in my party. This Mexican restaurant has been around since the 80s. It has delicious food and I have always enjoyed my meals! The chips and salsa are absolutely the best I've ever had... hell I'd h go o for them alone! The little mini chimichangas with the special brown sauce is my go to, I can't even try anything else because they are that good. Also the service is excellent and Oscar the owner is the best! Yet, cars were parked there. They were all lined up in a row too, so it looks like they were employees. Second, even though it was the middle of the day, the restaurant was kind of dark. We almost got seated in a corner, which had the lighting of one tea candle, but my mom asked to move by the window. As for the food: - The chips were my favorite part. They're the thin kind, and they were served hot. This was as good as it got for me. - We decided to order queso dip. By the time it made it to our table, it was doing that thing cheese dip does, where it hardens a bit and you break it by dipping into it. - I ordered the sour cream chicken enchiladas with refried pinto beans. The food came out fairly quickly. Nothing special about the presentation.I took a bite out of my beans, and they had a weird aftertaste. I feel like refried beans have a pretty uniform taste across the board, and these were the worst I've ever had. I tried dipping chips in it to make it taste better, but to no avail. Likewise, the enchiladas were meh. They weren't really tasty or flavorful in the least bit. I guess I was expecting the sour cream and/or cheese to be on the inside or something, but instead they were piled on top of one another, along with jalapeno chunks on the enchilada. I love sour cream, but the taste of it all was rather off-putting. While the lunch special makes the dish fairly cheap, you can taste better enchiladas at Trader Joe's for cheaper (and more filling). read more

The chips were hot and fresh, the salsa was pretty good. I ordered a margarita, which was the regular and it was awful! I pretty much thought it was going to be a disappointment through and through... and then our food came. Things were flavorful, FRESH, and well excecuted. This isn't "cheap mexican" or "greasy mexican", but it was simple and fresh. I ordered the "half fajitas" and was blown away with the portion. Cuco's is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Montgomery. I've eaten there for many years, even before they moved out to Chantilly Pkwy. The food is always on point. I've never had a bad meal there. I typically always ordered the beef enchiladas with double black refried beans, but over the past weekend, I decided to try their taco salad. It did not disappoint. I ordered it with extra meat and extra cheese (on the keto diet), and I am not sure it even needed the extra. It was really delicious, and it was a lot of food so I couldn't even finish the whole thing. They have the best chips and salsa in town. The chips are light and crispy and taste fresh, while the salsa is nice and chunky instead of blended up like you get at some restaurants. The only negative about the restaurant has nothing to do with the food but is instead about the seating. The previous location had much more comfortable seating, while this "new" location has very uncomfortable booth seating. Small price to pay for such good food. The service is great at Cuco's. This has always been one of my favorite restaurants to eat at in Montgomery. But my last two times eating here, the restaurant has had a horrible sewage smell. These two visits were 3+ weeks apart.
