I had high expectations for this place, but I was a little disappointed. I will start with this though, the service was great! Even being as busy as it was on a Tuesday night, nothing took very long. The chips were fresh, my water was never empty, and our food came fast. It was my meal that was disappointing. I ordered something different than I typically get from a Mexican restaurant, so maybe that had something to do with my lack of enjoyment. I ordered a simple shredded chicken quesadilla with a side of refried beans. The shredded chicken was dry, which is typically compensated by the cheese, but there was not enough cheese on my quesadilla to hide that. The beans were good though, just nothing to be excited about. Next time I'll have to try something more complex, like the fajitas. I also was not a fan of the salsa. It was too thin, runny, and not very flavorful. The chips themselves were great though, and the cheese dip was also great! The meal had some positives and some negatives. I still recommend giving it a shot, as it's filling and cheap. I'll just have to come back to try something hopefully better. read more

We have LOVED this place until recently. It's not just one bad experience, they seem to have gone down-hill and fast. About 3 weeks ago we arrived to a strong odor of sewage. I was starving and craving my favorite dish so I ignored my nose and went in. The smell didn't dissipate, but it did get better. Service was much slower than normal and it took quite a while to get our food. Yesterday was the last straw. We ordered and saw several families and couples arrive after we did and received their food quickly...while we sat and waited...and waited. Eventually we received ONE of our two dishes and after 7 minutes, we decided to just leave since our server said NOTHING when he delivered the one dish as to when the other would be arriving. My chicken was leather hard and dried out...so we went to the front to tell the woman at the register. She not only charged us for the queso and drinks, but UPCHARGED us using a "takeout" menu price!!!!!!!!!!! We did consume the drinks and queso, so we were fine with paying the regular price. The server came up to her and told her in Spanish that the ticket had been lost and that it was ready now if we wanted to take it to go. NO THANK YOU! He didn't realize my husband speaks Spanish. He told us it was delayed because they were so busy. Won't be going back! Such a shame because they use to be so good! read more

I was, to say the least, very disappointed. The sign advertised authentic Mexican Restaurant. The menu looks great with a multitude of choices. Pictures of some very good looking dishes. Mine, on the other hand, was very lacking. Building and interior: Very clean and bright. Easy to see and find. Nice signage. Inside is spacious and inviting. Booths are very clean and comfortable. Floor is spotless. Restrooms are in a very bad location, almost in the kitchen. Starters: Chips and salsa are the average run of the mill. Chips were fresh and crispy. Salsa is ok, nice taste but no chunks. I only see a couple of onion chips, No peppers or tomatoes. Salsa has a nice bite. A little spicy but not overwhelming. Cheese dip is also average. Option to order it with peppers, but wifey declined. Service: Staff very nice. Were quickly seated. Server at table very quickly with chips and salsa. Oder taken as soon as we were ready. Nice lady Food: Wife had her standard steak quesadilla, meat and cheese only. Order was correct and served very hot. She enjoyed. I ordered a combo of Beef Burrito, Beef Tamale, and Beef Chile Relleno. The amount of food was nice. Plenty of ground beef to go around, but why? It looked as if my plate was a return from another table. The Burrito was in between to other two items. It looked nice and appeasing. The others, not so much. Lets start with the Relleno. In all my years of eating foods from south of the border and while visiting south of the border, I have not seen something like this. It was about 2 spoon fulls of ground beef on the plate with a small pepper, either a quarter of a chile or the butt end of a bell pepper, covering the beef and a slice of cheese on top. Not what i expected. The Tamale wasn't any better. No husk. Just a BLOB of mesa on the plate topped( Covered) with some ground beef. No filling in the mesa at all. Not tasty at all. The beef had no flavor or spice. Very bland. I felt like Gordon Ramsey. I wanted to ask, " What the HECK is THIS??" I understand tamales are very time consuming to make, but if this the best offering for a tamale take it off the menu. PLEASE work on the tamales AND the relleno. I wanted so much for this to be really good, but it fell really short. read more

2nd time eating here. The restaurant is very clean. The staff is very nice and helpful. The quality of the food was decent. The food isn't prepared quiet as authentic has the "no habla English taquerias" that I usually prefer, but was more authentic than most chain style mexican joints. The habanero salsa has a pleasant habanero flavor, but not quite as spicy as I would expect. The chiles toreados were grilled just right, but if you like grilled onions and sliced limes with it, like I do, you have to ask for them. The chicken enchilada was pretty good. The flavor and texture was pleasant. The tamale had a decent flavor, but wasn't quite as rich and smoky as I had hoped, however the smokiness in the sauce made up for it. It was also covered with ground beef in the sauce. I found that odd, but not entirely displeasing. The pork to masa ratio in the tamale was pretty good. read more

We simply told her that we had gotten something different than we ordered and she yelled at us saying we didn't know what we were talking about and that she was right. we stopped in prattville on the way to Memphis and got takeout from Mexico Tampico. Started with the chips, salsa, guacamole which were made in-house and absolutely perfect. We also enjoyed the steak chimichanga and vegetarian combo authentic and delicious. the portions were very generous and the staff was friendly and very helpful. The food was "ok".... not great, not bad. Prices were reasonable.... but the accomodations (tables, booths, chairs, restrooms, etc) were awkwardly places, severely outdated, and in bad repair. I'm all for an authentic, family-owned restaurant... but this place bordered on just plain "dirty". There are so many Mexican restaurants.... I doubt we'll be back..... not when El Cerrito is 2 miles up the road (best Mex food I've had in years there). We branched away from our favorite..... regrettably. All the workers are too busy taking among themselves than waiting on tables. Such is posted BUT when my wife is on oxygen and I on a cane and the Manager tries to charge full price without recognizing a Senior then it is time to go other places!
