Of course, we ordered a few dogs and fries. The service was speedy fast and we had our food in no time. There are seats inside, but also nice benches outside on the property. This worked out great since we were returning from our hike and had our dog with us. We sampled everything from the chili cheese dog to just the cheese dog to a plain dog. While all were delicious, I will say that the cheese dog toped with salsa was our favorite. Can't wait to be back when we are in the area!

It has a nice crunchy outer layer and the inside has melted mozzarella cheese and hotdog. You can add toppings like ketchup, mustard, or sweet spicy sauce. The ube bobba drink has a nice milky sweet taste to it and the color is very pretty. The brown sugar bobba drink is sweet, but not over empowering sweetness. The texture is a bit more chewier than that I'm used to and the frosting is a thin layer frosting instead of a glaze. The difference ? The frosting will stick to your fingers and is a bit thicker in texture and denseness whereas the glaze barely sticks and is much lighter tasting and texture. Our family definitely prefers the glaze over the frosting but still a good place to try mochi donuts and bubble milk tea. The ube milk tea was delicious. Nice customer service and a good spot to sit and have a snack but parking is not the best, it's street paid parking which can be trickier on the weekends.

I placed my order for an arepa, corn on the cob with all the toppings, and a hot dog. The food was delivered nice and hot. The corn I noticed was not your regular Mexican Street Corn, they used Parmesan cheese instead of the cheese that is regularly used. I took one bite and it did not matter...all I can think to myself was OMG why didn't I stop to get this sooner?!?! So fresh, so sweet, so delicious. It's easily the best corn on the cob I have ever had. If I could give more than 5 stars for this corn I would. The arepa and hotdog was also delicious! I have been hooked ever since and get them regularly now. If you see this place, do yourself a favor and get some corn.

New York City has a remarkable ability to turn ordinary things into cultural institutions. Given…read moreenough decades, a basic diner becomes a historic landmark, and a simple hot dog counter becomes a neighborhood shrine. Gray's Papaya on the corner of 72nd Street and Broadway is the quintessential example. Founded in 1973 by Nicholas Gray after he split from Papaya King, Gray's built its reputation on snappy franks, tropical fruit drinks, and microscopic prices. High rents and Manhattan real estate realities eventually shuttered the other outposts, leaving this Upper West Side location as the last one standing. We ordered the famous Recession Special: two hot dogs and a papaya drink. One dog came loaded with mustard and sauerkraut, the other with grilled onions. Both were aggressively, heroically average. They were not bad, which would at least make for a compelling story. They were simply the sort of hot dogs that seemed to spend their lives avoiding taking a firm stance. If hot dogs were graded on a bell curve, these two would sit directly in the middle, quietly hoping nobody called on them. The mustard was mustard, the onions were onions, and the sauerkraut did its job. The papaya drink was cold and pleasantly sweet, offering a refreshing counter to the salty franks. The service was purely transactional. Nobody threw a hot dog at us, but warmth and hospitality are clearly not core company values. You step up, state your order, exchange cash, and move along. Still, three stars feels fair because nobody visits Gray's Papaya in search of culinary perfection. You go because you are hungry on the Upper West Side, you do not want to spend twenty dollars on lunch, and you want a quick taste of a Manhattan that existed before every storefront turned into a luxury bank branch. The hot dogs are strictly middle of the road. The history and price tag are considerably better.
