My keys got swiped at the 24 hour fitness. These guys came out late at night and had me back on the road in no time. Didn't catch the guys name but the dude with the long hair is badass. Would recommend to friends. read more

Wish I would have seen other reviews on here first! Similar to other stories, they quote $50 over the phone and then said because it is a "commercial lock" they have to charge $130 for literally 30 seconds of work to unlock a door with a coat hanger. Avoid! read more

Avoid at all costs. Would give zero stars if I could. TLDR; Charged nearly $180 to install a $6 mailbox lock. Wouldn't quote me an estimate over the phone to rekey a mailbox. I did some research on average local prices while the guy was on his way. Standing on my porch, looking at my incredibly common mailbox, the guy quoted me nearly $180, over twice as much as the average, and when I said no thank you, he demanded I pay $25 for his trip over. Rather than pay the guy for nothing and then have to look for another locksmith, I told him to go ahead and do the lock. He spent the entire time repeating that I was now one of their customers and they wouldn't charge me the $25 in the future, like that would really offset their hugely inflated prices. After the guy finished and was pulling out his paperwork, I went to the lock and discovered that he had installed it upside down. He fixed the mistake, all the while repeating that I was now a customer and things would be cheaper in the future. Scam. You would do better with literally anyone else. read more

I had a U-Haul truck that someone locked the keys in, downtown by the Library about 3 in the afternoon on Saturday. I called Locksmith Monkey. They got there in about half an hour, opened the door and charged me $160. They claimed it was so much because it was a commercial vehicle and it was Saturday. It was a U-Haul and I can't see much difference in that door and any other, and as far as being Saturday, I just don't see lockout service as a 9-5, M-F job, they just picked my pocket because they could. read more

I lost my keys in downtown Portland and I called Locksmith Monkey at 8:40p. I was quoted $25 for the service call and around $90 starting rate for a replacement key. I was also told that I would be called right back by the technician and it should be about 30-45 minutes for him to arrive. At 9:20p I called Locksmith Monkey back saying the technician never called me. The guy said he was sorry and he will have the technician call me right back. Finally, the technician called back and he arrived at 10:10p!! (1.5 hrs after my initial call and quote of 30-40min). When the technician arrived he told me it was going to cost $245! I was shocked. My car is a toyota camry and the key isn't a chip key, just a basic metal key. After hearing the new quote I was pretty upset since this was a lot of money (I'm a college student). I read reviews online about Locksmith Monkey and I was even more anxious about the technician and the price. In the end, I didn't head home until nearly 1:00am (approx. 4hrs from the initial phone call!). Basically, even though the technician was able to replace the key in the end, the entire process left me feeling very uncertain and ripped off. I don't know very much about cars or locksmiths but they shouldn't quote 30-40 minutes until arrival and have it be 1.5 hrs. They also shouldn't quote $90 starting price and immediately jack it up to $245 for a basic metal key. read more

When I called I was told 25 minutes, $25 for the call and $15 and up depending on the lock. I said great, gave my information and waited. 1 hour later the locksmith arrived took at look at my front door and said $110 total...Wow $70 mor than the minimum, must be a complicated lock right. Well it took about 60 seconds with a small sheet of plastic. Don't believe the time or cost estimates they're just trying to keep you from calling another locksmith and comparing prices. They did get the house unlocked quickly after they arrived. read more

Update: I was contacted by Ken H after posting my original review and refunded the amount that I was charged. Ken insists that customer satisfaction is important to him and the company, and I am thankful that he felt the need to reach out and make things right. Original review: I would also give 0 stars. I was locked out of my apartment at 6 pm. I called and spoke to the owner and was quoted $15 to send someone out and then that to pick the lock would be $20 and up depending on the difficulty of the lock. This fella was a total scam artist! They use this tactic because they realize once they show, you will be super desperate and pay whatever they ask for. The guy opened my easy lock (basic/took less than 60 seconds) and then informed me that I would need to pay $125 cash. I laughed. Who carries $125 in cash? I assumed the locksmith must be pocketing part of the cash and called the owner back to discuss the discrepancy and possible trickery. The owner proceeded to lie to me, yell and try to speak over me, and insist that I was mistaken. First he tried to tell me that I originally spoke to a dispatcher. I told him that I knew it was him; he has an unmistakable accent. He then told me that they NEVER quote prices over the phone. Dude, you totally did! Then he told me that I must have called and spoken with another locksmith/company. Oh yes, I am so dumb that I don't remember calling other locksmiths and it's not like I can literally prove that I didn't call anyone else by looking at my cell's call log. So now I'm fuming. I've been ripped off by someone that purposely misrepresented the fee of the service they would be providing, and then he again insists that I called someone else, because they charge $20 to come out, NOT $15. I was staring at the invoice, on the company letterhead, where the locksmith had clearly written $15 for service call and told him this. We had been in the phone for 10 minutes at this point, and I really could not be bothered to waste anymore time talking to the idiot, so I told him the discussion was over and goodbye. Guess who called me right back to argue more? Unbelievable. I should have been a more informed consumer and called several other places for quotes. The deal was obviously too good to be true. I didn't even bother calling anyone because the cost was so inexpensive. I told the owner/dispatcher/scam artist that he should have informed me when I called at 6 pm, that they would charge me at least $110 to unlock my door. I was told by the locksmith that came that after 5 pm and they rack up the price. I also told the owner that it is unhelpful to his business and employees to misrepresent his prices. I can only imagine how many furious people they have had to deal with face-to-face. And, in all honesty, if they just would have told me when I called that it would cost at least $125, I would have waited the couple of hours to get my spare key from my buddy, or just paid it and been annoyed. It was the combination of dishonesty and deplorable business practices that is so infuriating! read more

DO NOT USE. KGW News Story on Locksmith Monkey: http://www.kgw.com/news/follow-up-investigation-into-shady-locksmiths-proves-to-be-ongoing-story/72566286 Called to get a quote for a car key replacement. I gave the company my make, model, and year of my car and they quoted me $90. I doubled checked on the price and told them to come out. I waited an hour to get a call from the locksmith who was supposed to come to my place, when they called they said they'd be there between 2 and 3. Didn't show up until 3:40. First thing the man says to me "Oooh you're a ginger". Creepy, but I still needed a key to my car. So I brush it off. He tinkers around a bit, and tells me it will be $275, over 3 times the quote that I was told on the phone. I say I'm no longer interested and offer to pay for his time coming out to my place. He refuses and leaves angrily. Immediately after, I get someone calling me from a blocked number, over and over, with no voicemails left. Very unhappy with this service and do NOT recommend. *** UPDATE *** it's 9pm and this company is STILL HARASSING ME by calling my cell phone. My HUSBAND answered the phone the last time and finally the calls have stopped (for now). BTW - wish I had read the Yelp reviews because apparently this business has an F from the Better Business Bureau. read more

Would give zero stars if possible. I called this company when I was locked out of our apartment because the complex installed the doorknob incorrectly. He told me someone would call me and give me an eta. After waiting for a half hour, I called back and was told he was on his way. During that time, my neighbor came home and he jimmied the lock and we got the security door open. The driver called and said "I'm here" and I replied "no, you're not. And we just got the door open". He started yelling that I owe him the service call fee because he's outside and I once again told him "no, you're not. *I'm* outside and you are NOT here". He then pulls up and gets out and tried intimidating me into paying him - he was very aggressive and VERY nasty. I'm writing this review because if you are a woman - especially by yourself - do NOT trust this company. I was glad my male neighbor was with me. read more

Today I won the prize for being a total idiot, but these people are wonderful. I locked my keys in my house while on a dog walk. Looked for the spare; my house sitter had neglected to return it to its normal location. My elderly dog was due to get critical, time-sensitive medications in 15 minutes and I was freaking out. I thought about breaking a window, but I called the first locksmith that showed up on my phone's google search on the off-chance that they could get there in time. The woman who answered the phone was very attentive and assured me that someone would be out right away because of the animal situation. She repeated the information I was giving her loudly; it sounded as if she was repeating it aloud to the person who was leaving the premises at that exact moment to come and help me. THEN about 5 minutes later I realized I had accidentally left my back door unlocked and called them right back, totally embarrassed. They did not make me feel like a fool and did not ask me to pay anything, but I insisted because I had caused them to respond to my situation and someone was already on the way. In my view, that is the ethical thing to do. They were very nice and sounded surprised and told me they would have the service technician call me from the road. He called back right away and was exceptionally kind and understanding. I am noticing that a lot of the negative reviews about this place are from people who are expecting after-hours, on-site labor at an unreasonable and unrealistic price. These people need to have more life experiences, and more experiences with working in specialized fields, in my opinion. Locksmith Monkey's price for a service call (late at night) was FAR LESS than what I paid to another company during regular business hours. Not to mention I had to wait for several hours for the other company to arrive while these folks were on it right away. When I am in need of a locksmith, it's rare, it's a big deal, it feels like a personal emergency, and it's very stressful. I prefer to support good, honest people who work hard and take the situation at hand seriously and RESPOND. I'm hoping I won't need this kind of help again but if I do I will definitely call Locksmith Monkey. I saved their contact info in my phone already. They are really good folks and they are genuine. read more

Despite what their website says: that they take all forms of payment (cash, check, credit card), half way into the job of rekeying the locks in my home, the technician told me the job would be cash only and I would have to hit an atm. I called to complain. On the first call, the dispatcher told me that was incorrect they take all forms of payment and that he would look into it and call me back, no return call. I called back a second time, got another dispatcher and he told me that they are allowed to make a 'judgment call' and demand cash. On top of this, the quote also went up $30 per lock for removal and reinstall from the initial quote I received over the phone. read more

Total scam, as others have said. "$25 to come out, and then $15 and up to unlock a door" So thinking that it is the most basic house lock, I expected $40-$50. My wife was there with our two kids out in the cold. He shows up, it takes him 30 SECONDS to open the door, and then he charges her $75. What possible lock would be the $15 dollar version as he quoted on the phone? Had I been able to get home, I probably could have picked this lock myself. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY BTW - definitely reporting to Better Business Bureau, which I am sure they have already been reported to a thousand times read more

My car keys were stolen from me by some jackass felon with nothing better to do than roam around an apartment complex and rip off honest people. I called Locksmith Monkey and the technician gave me an amazing discount, two brand new transponder keys, one key to just my doors, and a new clicker for just over $500. Seriously impressive if you've done your research and understand how expensive this kind of work is elsewhere. And a way better option than having to change out the ignition cylinder to the tune of $900.The technician gave me a range of options as to what I could do in this situation that would also fit in my price range. This guy really knew his stuff. Barack was very nice, funny, quick, and a pleasure doing business with. THANK YOU SO FRICKING MUCH. A+ all around great service. We accidently discovered that the door to our basement locks and we don't have the key. My buddy was in town from Boise and his '05 Lexus key (w/transponder) fell apart (late one night, after several drinks). We called several locksmiths, all of whom said they could fix it, though some said it would have to wait until the next day, another said it would have to be towed into a dealer, etc. One company, Locksmith Monkey, assured us he could fix it and would be by within the hour. He arrived on-time, named Barak, and the first thing he proceeded to do was get a light on the issue and found the top of the key that had been dropped in the ditch and covered by leaves. That alone saved us $200. He then proceeded to plug in his computer, had a man open up the dash, sourced the original reason for the problem as a shot ignition cylinder (causing to much force to be used when turning the key). He fixed the cylinder, then the key - took an hour or more. Very complicated. Now the good part: Barak's guy, when under the dash, disco'd the fuel flap and trunk lid remote and this wasn't discovered until my buddy was in Hood River, on his way back to Boise. He called Barak, who, with apologies, had a man there to hook it up within an hour, at no extra charge, of course. Two things: 1. If you have a push button igniton or key with a transponder, prepare for what you're going to do if your key breaks or you lose it. You'll thank me if you do. And it's not cheap either. Ask your dealer, or mechanic. Or call Barak for advice. 2. If you need a locksmith, look no further than Barak at Locksmith Monkey. A pro and a gentleman and honest. Thanks Barak read more

We got locked out of our house earlier today, and despite some mixed reviews for this locksmith and after trying to open my front door with a credit card for a while (it worked on my dettached garage...), I decided to call these guys... The dude told me it was $25 service call (got a deal on Yelp for $12) and the price starts at $30 to open the door. When the locksmith got here in 30 mins ( as promised) he looked at the lock and told us it was a type of lock that you could insert a some sort of tool/pin in a little hole by the key and insert any key (?) to then make it become the new key for the door... And that this lock was harder to open bla, bla, bla... Then he asked if there was another door 'cause this one was harder to open, and I said no, 'cause our back sliding door only closes from the inside... Then he gave the quote: $98! I negotiated and he called his boss and came back with a good offer $50 + service call ($12). He got a card and was able to open the door in 10 seconds!! Wow, that was super tough! I recommend calling these guys, but make sure you negotiate 'cause the way they come up with the price is not very clear. read more

We called these guys when we had locked our keys in the car with the car running and in a dangerous spot. They told us someone would be on scene within 15 minutes. I hopefully won't make such a goofy error again, but if I do there's no one else I would rather call. The employee who helped us is named Ilan.
