Found this company on yelp and could not have been happier. He arrived on time, did the job on site in a timely/professional manner and did not rip me off. In fact, my friend calling him today to rekey her whole home too. 100% RECOMMEND. Glad I found him and you will be too. read more

After a short search, I found Locksmith Monkey with great reviews and called right away. They were able to schedule my appointment same day! So friendly, responded to my message so quickly and changed my lock in 5 minutes! Not only was the service great, he was very personable and friendly with my dog - I will only use them I the future. These guys are great! Very efficient and responsive to an emergent lockout!! Thank you!

I lost an electronic key FOB for my 2017 Mazda Miata. I scheduled an appointment after asking for a guarantee they could program a new FOB and also sent them a picture of my remaining key FOB with FCC ID an model number. I wanted to be sure I wasn't charged their customary $25 fee for an on site service call if they could not complete the service. The technician arrived an hour an a half late, but to his credit, he called me after he was 15 minutes late to let me know. After trying to program the new key for about an hour, the battery on my (brand new) Mazda gave out because the emergency flashers had to be left on during the programming process. The technician used jumper cables to partially restore the battery and tried again, unsuccessfully. The technician apologized and left, and I was not charged for the call, even though he spent almost two hours trying to program my key FOB. Later that day, the technician returned to my home and gave my wife the unprogrammed key FOB which he said could be programmed by the dealer, and doing so would save us money. He did not accept any payment for it and told us it was his way of "making it right." Later that evening, I got a text from the technician asking if I would be willing to let him try again. He had learned something new about my model car (which is a brand new 2017 model) that had changed from previous years and models. I agreed. The next day, the technician showed up (not late) and competed the programming and cutting of the mechanical part of the key. All worked as it should. He waived the $25 fee for an onsite visit. After all this, I found my missing key fob in a pair of pants with zipper pockets! So now I have 3 key fobs. But if I ever need another, I'll call the Locksmith monkey again. . read more

This business is a complete scam and looks for people in vulnerable situations to take advantage of. I called one morning because I lost my key and i drive my car for work so i was in a bit of a pinch. I called frantic, but was told they would be there in half an hour and I would be on the road shortly. First, the guy was 30 minutes late, and then he tells me it costs $450 for basic key without a fob, being stuck and without any options I payed even though that seemed unreasonable. He also asked me to pay by check which was odd. When I tried to leave for work the key he had given me barely fit in the doors and ignition, then immediately set off the alarm which triggered an anti-theft immobilizing device in my car which I had to take the dealership to fix. I couldn't get an appointment at the dealers for days, so that meant I was out $450, wasn't able to work, and was going to have to pay for the car to get fixed. After doing some research with other local locksmiths I found he had charged me $250 over what is considered the average price for a basic key. I also looked up other reviews of this business and found that he did the same exact thing which was to charge an unreasonable amount to people who were desperate to get something fixed, banking on the fact they wouldn't think they had another choice. This is when it gets interesting. I called the guy and told him about the damage he had done to my car, and about the overpriced key, and told him I was canceling my payment, and that if he had an issue with it, he would take me to small claims court. He instead told me he was going to come find my car and tow it where I wouldn't be able to find it, and put a lien on my car. He kept threatening me until I told him of all the research I had done, how my dealership had written a statement confirming the damage done by his shotty work, and that I had already spoken to a lawyer. This man preyed on my vulnerability, and took more than just my money. He stole my time, energy, faith in people, and my ability to make money for 5 days. I will also be posting photos of the texts he sent me. read more

Very smooth transaction. Would recommend to a friend. Ilan was very polite and my car was opened quickly. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of lack of communication between the phone staff and Ilan, the technician. I had to wait longer than told, and even though I said I was parked in a specific hotel (and gave them the name of hotel and exact address) the technician didn't know where I was. A very nice interaction in an otherwise unpleasant time of locking myself out of my car. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We have had terrible experiences with a past locksmith, but after our experience with Locksmith Monkey (Ilan) our minds have been changed. We had out car broken into and a small part of a key left in our ignition. Ilan came out quickly and was great at communicating updates. Price was fair and work was done well and fast. We will keep his card on our fridge from now on just in case. THANK YOU LOCKSMITH MONKEY! read more

Super helpful and friendly service! Went to Fred Meyer and they ruined my key - brought it to Locksmith Monkey and he fixed my original key and made me a working copy in no time! Would recommend this place 100% read more

This morning while I was taking a dog I'm dogsitting out, my own puppy jumped up on my door and managed to lock the deadbolt effectively locking her in and the other pup and I out. Everyone I know with spares are out of town for the holiday weekend, so after freaking out I googled locksmiths in Portland. I called another one first but they just put me on an infinite hold so I looked again and called Locksmith Monkey. The gentleman who answered the phone said they'd have someone out in 35-40 minutes but they actually arrived in about 20 minutes! The gentleman who actually unlocked my door did so in just a couple minutes and was super polite. Even offered to hold my puppy for me when she inched her way out after he got me in. HOPEFULLY I'll never get locked out of anywhere again but if i do, I'd definitely call these guys again. read more

5 stars...for nothing So I called an left a message that we need a couple keys made for our car because they've both been lost. I got a call back in about 5 minutes. The guy from Locksmith Monkey sounded surprised that I wanted keys made, which was strange. Then he told me that the machine he uses to cut the keys is broken and he wouldn't be able to help me. Then he put my on hold for 20 seconds to check something. When he got back on the phone, he confirmed that he would not be able to make keys for me. These people get 0 stars for cutting keys, but 5 bonus stars for being able to stay in the locksmith business despite not being able to generate said keys. Good on you! read more

Thanks to West they got me open real quick. Nothing worse than being locked out the house. Professional and quick and priced well.

The service tech showed up on time at location I was parked. He promptly went to work after price was agreed upon. He finished in 20 minutes like he said he would. The cost would have been the same if I went to my local mechanic but my mechanic wanted the car for 3 hours. After Locksmith Monkey finished the job he gave me a 25 dollar discount. Thank you brother much appreciated. read more

I was the worst possible customer that this guy had ever had, and they still fixed everything for me. I felt terrible afterward. Good company read more

I had a scary incident where my keys and wallet/id were stolen in the evening and I needed to get my locks changed just to be safe. they got out here quickly and were oh so wonderful both with the quality of their work but also just personally. We had a great chat and a couple of laughs and my crummy night was made a lot better. 10/10 would use again. read more

UPDATE: 04/17/2019 - I received a call from the locksmith, regarding my original review. The only update that I can make is to the itemization on the invoice. It actually was on there, it was itemized. I still believe the price of the hardware is exorbitant, again "in my opinion." Original review written below: Needed some updates to locks. Was able to do the job, same day. But very pricey!!! Job only took 5 minutes to do. The invoice did not give details as to labor and supplies totals. Thought $490 was vey high for updating three locks. Or am I just out of touch with costs these days? read more

I've had to call 4 times now for lockouts, new keys, ignition+key problems, and every time he is a responsive, friendly, and fast. This most recent time he was able to come much sooner than he originally said which was great because I was stuck! Works hard and is a good guy. I will always call him for any locksmith needs and I recommend everyone else does the same! read more

So I lost the one and only key I had for my 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, I called multiple dealerships to compare prices and then I came across Locksmith Monkey and they responded and let me know prices and everything. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they got back to me, did the work and got me a new key and programmed it to the car. They are quick, able to come to you so no need to have your car towed to them, and really kind. I was even made a blank that will open my doors in case I lock myself out. I definitely recommend them if you find yourself locked out or needing a replacement key! read more

Locksmith Monkey - Nice - Keys & Locksmiths Near Me - Portland, Oregon

See all

Barak is the man and really great guy! He saved us over $340!!! Dealership wanted over $340 for 1 key and they did 2 for $340. They travel to where you are and available 24-7. They do all the modern keys and quickly. We needed 2 transponder chip keys and he made them for us in about a hour. We're located in Vancouver, WA and so they travel quiet a ways. I would highly recommend Locksmith Monkey, especially if you need expensive keys made. read more

Locked my keys in the house and needed help on a Sunday morning. A Locksmith Monkey technician arrived in 20 minutes and had the lock picked in half an hour. Customer service was excellent. House calls start at $65 but you can expect to pay around $100 to unlock a Schlage deadbolt. To get a more accurate cost estimate on the phone, mention the type of lock (knob, deadbolt, auto, etc) and make (Kwikset, Schlage, etc) that you need opened. read more

I highly recommend Locksmith Monkey. I lost my key case with several important keys. A quick search on the internet and I found Locksmith Monkey. Accommodating, flexible, and charged me the standard rate even though it was the weekend. Definitely recommend.

I have had three encounters now with Ilan at Locksmith Monkey and can honestly say that he is highly reliable and efficient and extremely experienced and good as what he does. He got me into my house when the keys got locked inside on August 14, 2017 and then later the next day came out and rekeyed/changed all the locks. Then today August 29, 2017, I called him due to locking keys in the car. Once again he was super efficient and quick to help. His customer service skills are exemplary and beyond reproach. I highly recommend this company based on my interaction with one employee Ilan. Thanks Ilan and I will be calling you again next time.......... read more

5 stars for Locksmith Monkey, and Barak, the Community Life Saver!!!! Thank you for arriving as quickly as you did, doing the job in a matter of seconds, and saving us some money with a good deal. I am so happy with the outcome, and will never forget that day. I appreciate you. read more

Wes came by the house and did a great job. The whole team helped out to get the job done !

WOW! don't have your car keys cut by these guys!!! They lied and tried to justify, costs that are much higher than the dealership!!!! Makes me wonder about the cost of the rest of their services. I was quoted 200-350 to replace my 2000 v40 key!!!! Then the owner said Volvo dealership would charge 500! As I was talking to him I looked it up on Amazon and the key blank was $32 with the transponder. When I asked how much if I have my own blank, he said $200. Called around including a dealership that said they charge $240 for the complete service! And only $50 for a second key!!! Best to call a few places to find the rats in this business, not the monkeys! read more

Absolutely RIDICULOUS. I had to get into my house at 12:30 in the morning, and it was freezing, so I immediately googled a locksmith on my phone and went with it, hoping that they wouldn't take advantage of people who were already having horrible days. WRONG. A man came out and asked if I had ID on me -- I hadn't, because I'd left it in my house. He glared at me and continued inspecting the lock. He viewed it and when I asked for an estimate he said "I'd better not tell you the full price now" and giggled about it. I raised my eyebrows but let him continue to work, because he was a tall, beefy man and I was meek and quiet girl who was already scared about using a male locksmith alone at my house so late. He takes less than TEN seconds on the door and I'm absolutely relived. He asked if I wanted an extra copy of my keys and I said no thank you, he asked if I wanted my lock changed and I said no thank you. And then, the kicker : opening the door that took less than 10 seconds was ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FOUR DOLLARS. He wanted me to have cash and when I said I wanted to use a card he said "well, that's an extra 10 percent and I don't want to overcharge you". BS. Do. Not. Use. This. Service!!!! (FYI, the BBB gives this company an F rating.) read more

Absolutely horrible. I was given an quote over the phone much different than what the driver quoted me at. $393.00 dollars for a replacement key. Not only did they try to rip me off with multiple added charges, the man was over 1 hour and 15 minutes late. Then when I said there was no way I could afford the bill, and the price was unacceptable, he tried to charge me 29 dollars just for showing up. Never work with this shady business! read more

I wouldn't use these guys again. I just wanted to rekey my locks on my new house. The guy on the phone, with the middle eastern accent, quoted me a much lower price. When the tech got out here, he was trying to charge me $60 more than the on the phone quote. When I said, I can go to Home Depot and do it for less, thanks for your time, he said, "Ok, we'll do it for whatever he said". So, OK, but then wanted to charge me more for not having one of the keys. At this point I again said "no thank you, I'll do it myself", but he wanted to charge me $25 just for coming out to the house for the "service call". I thought this was just an estimate I was getting. It's not like I was locked out. In conclusion, these guys are running a bit of a scam here. There MUST be better companies out there. read more

Once the monkey showed up 25 minutes late tried to get an extra $100 buck out of me because it was a uhaul. His excuse was that uhaul charges him too. When I asked him how in the world would uhaul would find out because it sure sounds like you wouldn't tell them if they charged you. He stuttered and retracted his statement. I said I would pay him what I was told on the phone considering it was an old gmc that is easy to get into. He said no it's $100 so I told him to hit the road and good luck getting out of the storage unit without a pass code. So he did it for $75. Not a very business practical man or company. Unfortunately they have a bad name now and I'll call several locksmiths at one time next time and first one to show gets my business. read more
