This business is a complete scam and looks for people in vulnerable situations to take advantage of. I called one morning because I lost my key and i drive my car for work so i was in a bit of a pinch. I called frantic, but was told they would be there in half an hour and I would be on the road shortly. First, the guy was 30 minutes late, and then he tells me it costs $450 for basic key without a fob, being stuck and without any options I payed even though that seemed unreasonable. He also asked me to pay by check which was odd. When I tried to leave for work the key he had given me barely fit in the doors and ignition, then immediately set off the alarm which triggered an anti-theft immobilizing device in my car which I had to take the dealership to fix. I couldn't get an appointment at the dealers for days, so that meant I was out $450, wasn't able to work, and was going to have to pay for the car to get fixed. After doing some research with other local locksmiths I found he had charged me $250 over what is considered the average price for a basic key. I also looked up other reviews of this business and found that he did the same exact thing which was to charge an unreasonable amount to people who were desperate to get something fixed, banking on the fact they wouldn't think they had another choice. This is when it gets interesting. I called the guy and told him about the damage he had done to my car, and about the overpriced key, and told him I was canceling my payment, and that if he had an issue with it, he would take me to small claims court. He instead told me he was going to come find my car and tow it where I wouldn't be able to find it, and put a lien on my car. He kept threatening me until I told him of all the research I had done, how my dealership had written a statement confirming the damage done by his shotty work, and that I had already spoken to a lawyer. This man preyed on my vulnerability, and took more than just my money. He stole my time, energy, faith in people, and my ability to make money for 5 days. For some reason my recently installed "keyless lock" with coded entry at my business stopped working yesterday - meaning no one could get in and no one could get out through the main entrance. Not good and not safe. I looked online for emergency locksmiths and called Locksmith Monkey. They answered the phone promptly and sent someone who arrived within 20 minutes. Phew! Because it was not a "simple" fix - a keyless lock is not as simple as regular locks - it was not clear whether or not Michael would be able to fix it immediately. Context: My key would not turn in the ignition of my 2002 Ford Focus nor would the wheel turn. Very common problem for a Ford from this year. I needed a new ignition. 8:30pm at night. Service: Awesome, Elan (Elad?) was very nice and friendly. He arrived around 9:30pm and took about an hour to drill out and replace my ignition cylinder. He was able make it for my original key as well which was great. Would hire again :-) Price: Somewhat less awesome. I am stoked they did not charge me any extra for the service being after business hours but the total was more than I read online the service should cost. They charged $350 plus $25 for the visit which is more than $100 over what other locksmiths are charging but it is still less than what a Ford dealer would have charged me for then same service. I also asked if I they took credit cards over the phone and they said "of course" but then they said cash or check after the job was completed because no one was in the office to run the card after hours. It would have been nice if the person on the phone could have told me this in advance. It wasn't a big deal for me but I could see how it might be an issue for others. All it was a good experience. I am so happy to have my car back and the car started up better than ever with the new ignition. Thank You! read more

5 stars...for nothing So I called an left a message that we need a couple keys made for our car because they've both been lost. I got a call back in about 5 minutes. The guy from Locksmith Monkey sounded surprised that I wanted keys made, which was strange. Then he told me that the machine he uses to cut the keys is broken and he wouldn't be able to help me. Then he put my on hold for 20 seconds to check something. When he got back on the phone, he confirmed that he would not be able to make keys for me. These people get 0 stars for cutting keys, but 5 bonus stars for being able to stay in the locksmith business despite not being able to generate said keys. Good on you! read more

This morning while I was taking a dog I'm dogsitting out, my own puppy jumped up on my door and managed to lock the deadbolt effectively locking her in and the other pup and I out. Everyone I know with spares are out of town for the holiday weekend, so after freaking out I googled locksmiths in Portland. I called another one first but they just put me on an infinite hold so I looked again and called Locksmith Monkey. The gentleman who answered the phone said they'd have someone out in 35-40 minutes but they actually arrived in about 20 minutes! The gentleman who actually unlocked my door did so in just a couple minutes and was super polite. Even offered to hold my puppy for me when she inched her way out after he got me in. I had a scary incident where my keys and wallet/id were stolen in the evening and I needed to get my locks changed just to be safe. they got out here quickly and were oh so wonderful both with the quality of their work but also just personally. UPDATE: 04/17/2019 - I received a call from the locksmith, regarding my original review. The only update that I can make is to the itemization on the invoice. Barak is the man and really great guy! He saved us over $340!!! Dealership wanted over $340 for 1 key and they did 2 for $340. They travel to where you are and available 24-7. They do all the modern keys and quickly. We needed 2 transponder chip keys and he made them for us in about a hour. We're located in Vancouver, WA and so they travel quiet a ways. Locked my keys in the house and needed help on a Sunday morning. A Locksmith Monkey technician arrived in 20 minutes and had the lock picked in half an hour. Customer service was excellent. House calls start at $65 but you can expect to pay around $100 to unlock a Schlage deadbolt. To get a more accurate cost estimate on the phone, mention the type of lock (knob, deadbolt, auto, etc) and make (Kwikset, Schlage, etc) that you need opened. read more

WOW! don't have your car keys cut by these guys!!! They lied and tried to justify, costs that are much higher than the dealership!!!! Makes me wonder about the cost of the rest of their services. I was quoted 200-350 to replace my 2000 v40 key!!!! Then the owner said Volvo dealership would charge 500! As I was talking to him I looked it up on Amazon and the key blank was $32 with the transponder. When I asked how much if I have my own blank, he said $200. Called around including a dealership that said they charge $240 for the complete service! And only $50 for a second key!!! Best to call a few places to find the rats in this business, not the monkeys! read more

Would give zero stars if possible. I called this company when I was locked out of our apartment because the complex installed the doorknob incorrectly. He told me someone would call me and give me an eta. After waiting for a half hour, I called back and was told he was on his way. During that time, my neighbor came home and he jimmied the lock and we got the security door open. The driver called and said "I'm here" and I replied "no, you're not. And we just got the door open". He started yelling that I owe him the service call fee because he's outside and I once again told him "no, you're not. *I'm* outside and you are NOT here". He then pulls up and gets out and tried intimidating me into paying him - he was very aggressive and VERY nasty. I gave the company my make, model, and year of my car and they quoted me $90. I doubled checked on the price and told them to come out. I waited an hour to get a call from the locksmith who was supposed to come to my place, when they called they said they'd be there between 2 and 3. Didn't show up until 3:40. First thing the man says to me "Oooh you're a ginger". Creepy, but I still needed a key to my car. So I brush it off. He tinkers around a bit, and tells me it will be $275, over 3 times the quote that I was told on the phone. I say I'm no longer interested and offer to pay for his time coming out to my place. He refuses and leaves angrily. Immediately after, I get someone calling me from a blocked number, over and over, with no voicemails left. Very unhappy with this service and do NOT recommend. *** UPDATE *** it's 9pm and this company is STILL HARASSING ME by calling my cell phone. My HUSBAND answered the phone the last time and finally the calls have stopped (for now). Absolutely RIDICULOUS. I had to get into my house at 12:30 in the morning, and it was freezing, so I immediately googled a locksmith on my phone and went with it, hoping that they wouldn't take advantage of people who were already having horrible days. WRONG. A man came out and asked if I had ID on me -- I hadn't, because I'd left it in my house. He glared at me and continued inspecting the lock. He viewed it and when I asked for an estimate he said "I'd better not tell you the full price now" and giggled about it. I raised my eyebrows but let him continue to work, because he was a tall, beefy man and I was meek and quiet girl who was already scared about using a male locksmith alone at my house so late. He takes less than TEN seconds on the door and I'm absolutely relived. He asked if I wanted an extra copy of my keys and I said no thank you, he asked if I wanted my lock changed and I said no thank you. And then, the kicker : opening the door that took less than 10 seconds was ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FOUR DOLLARS. He wanted me to have cash and when I said I wanted to use a card he said "well, that's an extra 10 percent and I don't want to overcharge you". BS. Do. Not. Use. This. Service!!!! My buddy was in town from Boise and his '05 Lexus key (w/transponder) fell apart (late one night, after several drinks). We called several locksmiths, all of whom said they could fix it, though some said it would have to wait until the next day, another said it would have to be towed into a dealer, etc. One company, Locksmith Monkey, assured us he could fix it and would be by within the hour. He arrived on-time, named Barak, and the first thing he proceeded to do was get a light on the issue and found the top of the key that had been dropped in the ditch and covered by leaves. That alone saved us $200. He then proceeded to plug in his computer, had a man open up the dash, sourced the original reason for the problem as a shot ignition cylinder (causing to much force to be used when turning the key). He fixed the cylinder, then the key - took an hour or more. Very complicated. Now the good part: Barak's guy, when under the dash, disco'd the fuel flap and trunk lid remote and this wasn't discovered until my buddy was in Hood River, on his way back to Boise. He called Barak, who, with apologies, had a man there to hook it up within an hour, at no extra charge, of course. Two things: 1. If you have a push button igniton or key with a transponder, prepare for what you're going to do if your key breaks or you lose it. You'll thank me if you do. And it's not cheap either.
