So guess what I did? On the last full day of living at my current place, I lock myself out of my room. Very helpful with an unusual problem. Had to remove a locked gas cap, which had no key. Unfortunately, as I parked at their shop, the gas ran out and could not start. I was assisted by a very kind man that spent some good time trying to pick the lock and subsequently pulling the cap out. Charged a very low amount. I drove to the hardware store to have my new key duped, and while I was testing the copies, the ignition lock jammed again. Chris came out on his way home and hotwired the car so I could go home. He removed the lock and took it to his shop, where he gave it a good cleaning and reconditioning. He came by first thing the next morning and installed the lock, and gave me a couple extra copies of the key, too. Then he knocked fifteen bucks of the bill to make it more affordable for me. This place is in my old neighborhood, and kind of hidden in a weird little alley of off 82nd, on the north side of the FuBon shopping plaza. I stopped by to get a few key copies made instead of going to Fred Meyer or Home Depot. The copies were all $2 each. The place is small, unkempt, slightly dirty, but fascinating, as the back side is a ginormous pegboard wall full of thousands of different keys. There is a sign on the counter that lets you know it's run by one person, so you might need to wait. There were 3 people in front of me waiting, and it still only took 10 minutes for me to get my keys & get out. No frills & the little man who runs it has a business-only attitude, but still an ok spot if you're in the neighborhood & need keys. read more

This shop was recommended to us by our mechanic as the best place in Portland for lock and key issues. Brought in the back door lock from our 1996 Subaru. The locksmith made new keys for a reasonable price and put the lock back on the back door of the Subaru gratis. Our old keys were very threadbare. This place saved me from grief. Had an emergency with a customers car in which a key broke in the door. It was a stainless steel blank that I gave them and they took care of it in 5 minutes. Needed help with a new lock and key for my front door and patio sliding glass door. Chris wouldn't even consider it. Didn't come out. asked me to send him pictures of the sliding glass door. Said he wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Nothing unusual about the door. In fact YELP reviews said that another employee of the company fixed one quite well.
