I went to Locks That Rock several times and one time I was told that there was not enough time booked for the appointment to give me a few face framing highlights. Another time I told the stylist what color choices I wanted and the stylist advised against it and insisted it be done her way. When she was done, she had to do it over because it did not look good and even the stylist reluctantly agreed there was not enough contrast between the base color and the highlights, making the hair look one color. They should hold true to the policy that the customer is always right. It is their job to keep the clients happy and not argue about what they think the client should do. Also, the cost of the renovations recently done is being passed on to the clients through the increase in prices, which is not fair. They overbook and make you wait. I was very unhappy and would not recommend Locks That Rock. read more

No courtesy at all. Explained that I sold my car for a dream vacation and wanted to Look fabulous both my son and I. We both had gone over a year without haircuts. Drove over an hour to get there from CT only to sit for over an hour while she worked on everyone but us. Even people that came in after us. One hour and fifteen later I finally got asked about my color for my hair, half an hour after that I finally got color on my head ($80). Walked out with a wet head when I saw my son (who had been waiting since 3:00 - that was his appointment at 3:00) still sat untouched and she was applying color to someone else(who again came 1:45 after us. When I announced we were leaving she did apologize and said it was a mis- communication and she was "trying to stay on time". I explained that's not what you tell people that have been waiting for over two hours. She said "I thought he just liked hanging out with us?". Yes Karen, I am sure all 21 year old young men LOvE hanging out in beauty salons for two hours being ignored. Although you did tell him 3 times he was next which obviously was wrong, I did bring to your attention how long he has been waiting and we did not enjoy "hanging out. My hair color, thanks for asking, came out a mustardy yellow. I am sure it will look great on my dream vacation . I had an appointment for over a week. Karen over books "squeezes" people in that try to sell her pink curtains and treats everyone like they deserve to pay her top dollar and be treated like crap. Hugs hello however were appreciated BTW. So disappointed, I had been to this salon in the past when my mom was alive. Karen was wonderful to my mom. I live out of state and was in town and needed a wash, blow dry and flat iron. Was told that Glade would be tcof me. Awful experience! She was rough, used a blow dry comb to dry my hair, the teeth of the dryer kept hitting my ears, I was told to sit still, Glade was super distracted with other things around her including complaining it was hot, she was too preoccupied with her surroundings and coworkers to engage with me other than tell me to sit still. When it came to flat ironing the iron was very hot and nicked me a couple of times with the iron. I saw steam coming from the iron and questioned why that was and was told that it was normal to see that with the right product. Again told not to move, I asked Glade to lower the heat and she said I was fine , I mentioned I was concerned of burning my hair and she over used product, she over did the hot iron, and ultimately burnt some of my hair that when I left I could smell the burnt hair. Very upset, big big mistake on my part for going there. Go back to beauty school. read more

This is part review, part reply to another comment. I have been going to Locks That Rock since before they were at their Rt 9 location. They have the best prices in the area - my mother goes to a salon in a town further south and pays $200+ for foil highlights and a cut, when you can get the same quality at Locks That Rock for considerably less. Yes, they had to raise their prices recently, but that happens anywhere because of the economy. All of the girls are amazing here. They've become like a second family to me. I cannot speak about the male stylist there as I have not had the pleasure to really talk with him. Otherwise I have dealt with pretty much everyone in the salon. Karen, the owner, is always booked, and some days are busier than others, but as for the "passing off", yes it happens, because one person usually washes your hair, and your stylist you made the appointment with will color/cut/style your hair them self. That's the same as any other salon I've gone to. Which leads me partially to this... For the reviewer who said that the owner didn't know what "Balayalage" was - I didn't either until I got the correct spelling. As for the owner saying you're on the bottom of the food chain, because you were the only "non-white" person there, I find that hard to believe because the owner would NEVER say something like that in general, let alone to a customer. Also, if you weren't happy with the styling/coloring, then say something as they do it. I've gone plenty of times where I want something done and they might have not known exactly what I meant, so I would show them. I had gone once where the 30 volume for mixing my hair color may have not been closed properly and it wasn't as strong as it should be. So what did they do? They re-did it with a new bottle of 30 volume. When I told them I couldn't stay any later to have it fixed, they gave me a new appointment to come in and have it fixed, obviously free of charge. Karen has been in this business for over 20 years. She wouldn't be where she is now if she would say rude things to customers and if customers were unhappy with their styles. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new salon and thought it would be nice to get my hair and nails done at one place so I gave Locks That Rock a try. I got a full head of highlights, a cut and a full set of acrylics, and it took them 4 1/2 hours which is insanely long for that! On top of that, the lady who did my hair was sick and kept coughing on me and wiping her nose on the back of her hand and then going back to my hair. Additionally, she would lick her finger before picking up the foil and then put all of this in my hair! It took her so long to put the foils in my hair that the back was done setting by the time she was done so I didn't need to sit under the heat. So she transferred me to another girl to wash my hair. That girl was sitting by the washing stations eating pizza, when I came over she just put down her pizza and came to wash my hair without washing her hands first! Then she went back to eating her pizza after washing my hair, without washing her hands again. The hair process had taken so long by this point that they sent me to the nail girl with wet hair because the nail girl was expecting another appointment. This was fine and the nail girl was much nicer and more professional, but she did a horrible job! I got white/pink powder with white tips, but the white is too short (doesn't go as far down on any of the nails as it should) and the pink looks horrible like it's separating from my nails. On my middle fingers especially she didn't use the right size plastic (it was too big) so the nails look all awkward and deformed, plus discolored because the pink didn't set right. I'm so frustrated that they looked this way immediately after getting them (instead of 2 weeks later like other places I have been) because they cost $50! The hair cut and color were okay, but not the best I had and definitely not enough to compensate for their high prices on nail services and slow and unprofessional service! Additionally, their nail service is so incompetent no one should ever pay money for that! However, when I complained the owner was nice enough to refund my money for the nails and she definitely made me feel a lot better about the experience. read more

I had one of their staff do a simple high lights and low lights on me and instead (after 8 hours!) came out with a horrible head of damaged discolored hair.:( and as the "blow out " was happening I had expressed me discontent with the color and the DAMAGE that had been done to my hair , the owner turned to me and in a very loud and nasty disrespectful tone told me to "pay and leave if you don't like it " and then proceeded to charge me $210. Which was more than the $175. I was told it would cost . I am writing this review from my chair in Hollywood salon as they try to salvage what is left of my hair . I write this review in the hopes anyone who reads this will not make the mistake of having their hair destroyed by this salon because I now know how it feels to have your hair destroyed and then to be disrespected and charged $210 to have the awful experience I did it this salon ..... If you value your hair PLEASE do not take a risk on going to this salon :( read more

I have long hair and i go in asking for a ducks tail or a "v" shaped ends. leave unaware that she cut the southern border of texas shape into my hair. Which is not a smooth even cut but jagged un even and was more shaped like a crooked "w" . To get it fixed i didn't want to waste anymore money so i went to the walmart hair salon in fishkill and the lady about to cut my hair was SHOCKED and in horror sayin this was completely the worst thing she has ever seen. they showed all the other women that worked there and they took picture of my hair that i got done a locks that do not rock. read more

I've been here a few times before and never had an issue. This time I took my daughter to get her hair cut and straightened and was greeted by the owner saying "please tell me I'm not doing HER hair!" Setting aside the fact that now my daughter feels embarrassed, the owner proceeds to tell me that she will cut her hair and she will find another stylist to straighten it. I was fine with that until my bill was $ 20 higher than originally quoted. I was told that it was higher because I used 2 stylists. First off, it's not my fault that the hair stylist I was given was not qualified to straighten her hair. Secondly, the owner offered that solution (so I should not have had to pay for it), and if it WAS going to be extra, then I should have been told that when they offered that to me. Karen and Chris are amazing and the rest of the staff is very friendly and nice as well. I started going here when my hair was badly damaged and frizzy and short, now my hair is long, sleek, and strong. People often ask me if I'm wearing extensions because my hair is almost down to my butt now and very shiny. I get my hair trimmed by Karen and my keratin treatments (because frizz is the worst) by Chris. Both Karen and Chris are very professional and fully explain everything they do and why and it is very comforting. They go above and beyond. Chris even opened the salon on a Monday for me to do my hair bc I couldn't do it any other time. This salon is truly amazing and I recommend everyone I know to go here. read more

A nightmare. I've had a thousand haircuts - nothing as botched and chopped up and wickedly short and horrific as what I got here. Run! Run from this place! There is no way to repair the chopped crap on the top of my head - this man had no clue what he was doing. I am stuck like this - it will take literally years to grow it out to get a normal haircut. I have to say that the owner of this salon, Locks That Rock, is by far the most unprofessional, rude, nasty, refuses to communicate, and unappreciative. After begging her to contact me regarding booking an appointment I find out I'm one of 3 people in the same slot and sit there for 3-4 hours for a full color wash and trim. I begged her to make an appointment for my 3 teenage daughters and she blew me off completely by telling me she was too busy and never responded to my messages or had staff book my girls an appointment. I swept hair up after the client before me on 3/2/17 to help speed the process of me getting done sooner (was there a long time) and not even a thank you. I have done several kind things for the owner and she is so nasty and rude and has no appreciation for clients or the kindness others show her. Her hair color/product is horrible. I have to now wash my hair once a week or all the color washes out. I have spoke to other clients there as well and they have the same issue. For the high prices she charges you for services rendered you are not only not appreciated for your time, but the experience and quality of the appointment are low. All of this is after I was dragged into her staff drama and literally wanted no part of the "issues" she was having but was still supportive and again not even a Thank You. I have never worked there. I tried to communicate with her and again got blown off. This woman does not care about people or communicating to resolve issues. Overall worst experience and will NEVER return to Locks That Rock. I will be reporting to the BBB also as I tried to resolve many issues with the owner and her exact words were "do what you have to do" instead of being professional and caring that she is loosing a long standing paying client. The fact that she refuses to resolve issues and won't communicate is just sad. I already have a new salon that cut my 3 daughters hair and they are fantastic. I cannot even EXPRESS how LIVID and ENRAGED I am about what happened at this place today!!! This WAS my regular salon, but the stylist I had been seeing was on some kind of leave. So I made an appointment with someone else (GLADE), and I had the most horrible experience!!! I was just getting a hair cut, but expected it to be blow dried afterward. I JUST got seated in the chair when she starts calling for her next client to be prepped, and I was already wondering why. Then, she rushes through my hair cut, and does not bother to dry my hair! When I got annoyed about it, she called over this assistant, but when she did not do it right either (she starts using a curling iron on my wet hair), I said something again, and Glade (who was now already working on someone else), pipes up and says to the assistant, "Oh let her do it herself"!!! So I had to stand there and blow dry my own hair, during which time I was becoming all the more upset and furious!!! I immediately went to talk to the owner when I was through, and in all fairness, she tried to be accommodating, but it was far too late for that. I am NEVER going back there again, and I advise anyone who lives in the Hudson Valley NOT to go to this salon ~ if you do, DON'T get stuck with Glade. She is horrible, totally unfriendly, uncaring and completely unprofessional;. She ought to be FIRED for what she did to me today, and I will be telling everyone I know how awful she was!!! I got my hair done at Locks that Rock before my wedding, along with my mom, mother-in-law and bridesmaids. I could not believe what Helena was able to do with my hair. It was amazing and stayed in place all night.She truly is a genius at up-dos. Everyone else loved their hair, except my sister, as her curls fell out shortly after leaving the salon. Karen was great to work with leading up to the day, and made our experience at the salon memorable. I went to this salon with a normal hair & normal color & left with my hair very very dry, looking like hay, the ugliest color we can imagine, it got worst, when I washed my hair there were so damage that I have to empty 1/2 bottle of conditioner & couple of masques just to get them untangled. I don't know what kind of dirt cheap crappy products they use. They are clueless. I've been doing my highlights since I don't even remember & never came cross a salon so unprofessional, so ignorant & so careless about people's hair. They only care about the money. Save your money & go to a real salon. Don't let the fake image & the hypocrite smiles foul you. It's going to take me a while to get my hair back to normal & tons of natural treatments & oils.
