I initially wasn't going to leave a review, but the way Cynthia responded to my absolute devastation over my completely butchered haircut, I feel the need to warn new customers, ESPECIALLY if you are neurodivergent, STAY AWAY. I had been growing out my hair for 3 yrs and decided it was now too long. during this time I've had consistent trims/shape, but since moving I didn't think I could physically make the 1+ hr drive to my old salon bc I'm also physically disabled. I now regret this completely as it would have been less physically painful for me to endure the longer trip than to be going through what I am now. first, she took another client DURING MY APPT. WOW. as for the length, I asked for asymmetry (longer to the front). I warned her that my shrinkage is A LOT & she assured me she understood what I wanted, yet my hair is completely blunt, with no face framing layers. I showed her a reference photo of MYSELF, my own curls, from a little less than 2 yrs ago as a point I wanted to return to. I should have run screaming when she started using a comb on my dry hair, then began twisting tight sections which she would then cut into at an angle in multiple points to "create texture". SHE NEVER HAD MY PERMISSION OR CONSENT to completely change my hair texture, which she did. I even specified the way I style my hair is for DEFINITION, and the way she cut into it has completely destroyed my once perfect spiral curl pattern. I used to get asked if my hair was done by a curling iron or if it was a wig, now it looks absolutely horrible. you can see the after pics as well as a pic of my hair from 3 wks ago. I am completely traumatized by this experience and on my way home I ordered hair clips and even shears to try and salvage this atrocity, but there's no way to go backwards to before she completely chopped at my hair WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME if that was what I wanted. when I left the salon, I did act like everything was fine, mostly because I still didn't know just how bad it was until I styled it myself, because SHE didn't style it. I was hoping it was just these products my hair disliked, or the humidity today, or my anxiety... I wanted to be wrong. I also thought she seemed genuinely nice and I didn't want to jump to the conclusion I already knew in my gut. when I told her how much I hated it, she eventually offered me a refund after saying I should just let it "grow out". she texted me confirmation of the refund, at which point I sent her the included photos of my hair after styling it normally (). I pressed further about the "added texture", why she would do that, and how can I fix it? she then proceeded to severely gaslight me, claiming my hair texture had probably just changed due to new products or diet, even though I covered both those topics when I was explaining what I wanted from this haircut. it was at this point I let her know what I really thought about her as a stylist and a person after she showed her true colors. the way I was treated was unbelievably horrible and I unfortunately won't soon forget it. I can usually only afford a 2x/yr cut, so for me it's always a big deal that I look forward to, after this I will never again visit a new salon, and I may never go to ANY hairdresser ever again. Cynthia truly did not listen to ANYTHING I said, and I was so nervous and focusing so hard on trying to "act normal" (which she of COURSE brought up to shame me further), that I didn't speak up or just leave when I should have. at first I thought this was just a mistake or a bad day, but after her response via text & lying response, I KNOW she maliciously chopped my hair & is hiding behind having "excellent reviews" as a way to escape the accountability, bc apparently I'm the only one to EVER be unhappy, ever. I am literally so completely devastated over this entire experience, I already know her response will just be more humiliation & deflection, as if a refund could fix it. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID by trusting this salon. I can see Yelp has the ACCURATE records of this salon and from now on I will ALWAYS check Yelp too! I plan to follow up by suing Cynthia, she deserves it! read more

Make it easy on the both of you and have an idea of what you want so you can tell her how you want your look. She's gna flex it and you'll be thrilled with your do. My partner and I had followed her to three different shops while we lived in Poughkeepsie and I wouldn't even think about visiting anyone else if you love in the Lagrange/Poughkeepsie area. Once we moved to JC, we went to visit her because we couldn't find anyone else in our area up to our standards. Let me tell you, she NEVER disappoints! The bitch with the caked up bronzer on her face (not an over exaggeration) fucked up my eyebrows after I told her I didn't want them arched..... she did it anyway and I don't mean just a little bit my eyebrows were arched like hers which I disnt want to happen.....not only that....when I got my hair done everything was nice I had to admit...but I asked the lady who did my hair how much would it be I need an exact price not one afterward and she said $90.....1...she went against with how I wanted my initial hair to look like and said she "thought I would like it better" and 2 when I went to pay she told me it was 100....that wasn't too bad but I realized i left my card with my boyfriend so he came by...when I went to pay she changed up and said it was 150! I asked why and she said cause of highlights in my hair that I didn't even know she put in!!! I didn't want that shit!! Warning long post... I have been coming to Cynthia for a little over a year now and I am so happy to have found her! She listens to you, does exactly what you ask for and will give you her input that best suits your hair. I have had bad haircuts in the past, and when I say bad, I really mean horrendous and I can honestly say that Cynthia has never disappointed. I've had "master" stylist and 30 year veterans in cosmetology butcher my hair. It truly is refreshing to find someone upstate who is talented and affordable! Now if your wondering what type of hair she can handle....everything! I am of mixed background ( Black Indian and Puerto Rican) so my hair is thick, coarse, tight curls and natural. I always straighten my hair for cuts (personal preference) but Cynthia does offer DevaCuts. My mother also gets her hair done with Cynthia and she is a hell of a lot more adventurous then me so she gets faux hawks, buzzed cuts, highlights, anything and everything and always comes back from the salon glowing! And my husband who is Asian and has medium thickness straight hair gets the oh so popular hard part cut with a tape up. After getting his hair cut for 35 years in Brooklyn it was a godsend to have Cynthia know what to with his big, weird-shaped head... I make it sound worst then it is but it is difficult to cut. the level of Unprofessionalism I experienced before I even walked in the door astounded Me. I called at 3 p.m. and was given a 5:15 p.m. appointment. A receptionist called me at 5:05 pm as I pulled up to the salon to cancel my appointment. Apparently the hair stylist decided to leave early. I expressed my discontent at the level of un professionalism as a potential new client. The receptionist was not apologetic and just kept repeating there was nothing she could do. I will gladly take my business elsewhere does the staff cannot be bothered t even show up when I have appointments.i would not go back if it was free. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I absolutely would. My daughter got her hair colored there and it came out terrible. Her roots and hair were completely different colors. She made multiple appointments to get it fixed free of charge- which were all cancelled by the hair dresser. She then told my daughter they didn't have the right bleach in stock and she didn't want to ruin her hair again- stating she KNEW she used the wrong bleach the first time around. She than informed my daughter that she had to pay to fix THEIR mistake. Awful. Don't even fix their mistakes. I will never be going here again. read more

I had purchased a service through Deal Chicken for this studio for a highlight and cut. The day of my appointment I walked into the salon and was told that my appointment was cancelled. I rescheduled. I returned to the salon on the rescheduled date and again was told that my appointment should have been cancelled. At that point I insisted that I have the highlight done by someone, as it had already been paid for. I then waited almost an hour for a stylist to show up who did the highlights for me. When it came time for her to rinse my hair and apply the toner, there was a lot of whispering between the stylist and the owner of the shop. The stylist returned and told me she didn't think I needed to have the toner applied. She cut my hair and I was thrilled to escape from one of the most horrible experiences I have ever had at a hair salon. My hair was almost platinum blonde (a color I would never choose) and it took about 6 months for my hair to feel healthy again. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more
