I'm not sure what's going on with Lock City Pizza lately, but it's changed for the worse. I used to love their pizzas--always loaded with gooey cheese and plenty of pepperoni, with a thick crust. Now, the cheese and pepperoni are scarce and the crust is thin, and undercooked. To top it off, the prices have skyrocketed. It's disappointing because this place used to be my favorite pizza spot. My rating is a 5 Star but the story goes way back when they were Pontillo's on East Avenue, then Walnut St up in the city. This is my all time favorite and nothing can ever change that. I've been around the world I've had pizza everywhere I've been. Pizza is very subjective but I've had three great pizzas. One in Athens Greece, one in Oslo, Norway and Lock City pizza. Last night we ordered a chicken finger sub for me since I won't touch their pizza (see below). I took a few bites and thought the fingers were overall soft/mushy. I figured it happens, especially when you sauce the fingers, add sub toppings, and have to drive home with the food in the bag, etc...they're not going to be crispy. Oh no. I took a closer look, and the fingers were RAW in the middle. Rubbery pink. Obviously couldn't eat any more of it. I've seen things happen with wings, but I've NEVER had a raw chicken finger in my entire life. This is also the worst pizza I've ever had. It's the only pizza from anywhere in WNY that I find truly VILE. Like seriously horrible. I'm not from Lockport, but I have absolutely no idea why people go crazy over this place. I know it's a matter of personal opinion, but I've tried it so many times. God, it's bad. I don't have a problem with greasy, messy pizza, traditional sauce, use of herbs...I just find this pizza disgusting. It's so messy and it's like the dough isn't fully cooked. I've been a fan since the Pontillo's days. Hurray for old School pizza! Pepperoni and cherry pepper pizza, my goodness, I am ordering one tonight! Yes, you taste the thousands of pizzas that have through the ovens, yes it is well done with that old fashioned highly worked dough. Yummo! It is saucy and messy, God bless them! Oh my gosh freakin Lock City. It's been a life long debate in my family. As a kid growing up I hated it but here I am in my 30's ordering it. This place is old school and hasn't changed since I was kid...maybe ever. They only take cash, they have one phone line and don't open until 4pm. Getting a busy signal is common. There's no website or online menu, but with all that being said, I love all of those things about Lock City. It's a visit back in time. It's not just about the pizza, it's about the nostalgia....But let's get to the pizza. It's their own dough, heavy cheese, and quality toppings. Was very excited to try this well regarded pizza place. Probably one of the better places in Lockport. The crust was kind of tough though, everything else was good. Sauce was not sweet, which I liked and they cut the pie into squares, also great. While I didn't completely fall in love with this pizza it's pretty solid and I can certainly understand why people love it so much. Interestingly enough, I reheated a slice for a late night snack in the toaster oven. It gave the crust a really nice crunchy texture and was no longer tough or hard to chew. I worked in a restaurant and if I didn't answer the phone and take orders until the exact time we closed I would be in some trouble! Have you ever seen a chicken finger so big???? We ordered a large pepperoni/mushroom pizza and an order of chicken fingers plain, with mild sauce and BC in the side. Order came out perfect, right on time and piping hot. We ordered the pizza 3/4 baked Bc otherwise it comes out really really crispy, almost burned. I like it all the way cooked but my husband prefers 3/4 cooked so we went with his preference today. The chicken fingers are awesome and literally the largest fingers I've ever seen. Highly recommended as the best pizza in Lockport. Unfortunately cannot say the best in Buffalo, but it's pretty darn good. read more

Lock City is one of two pizzerias in Lockport that you either love or hate (the other being Pizza Oven). Just look at the other reviews which are either 1 or 5 stars. But the pizza here is the complete opposite of Pizza Oven and most other Lockport pizzerias. The crust is firm, chewy, and tends to have some scorching. If you're not into that you can ask for 3/4 bake. The sauce is plentiful with a savory herby flavor, definitely not sweet. The pizza does tend to be a little messy to eat. I am biased because I love their pizza and grew up on it. Unfortunately my family hates it so I seldom get to order from here. Yes they only take cash and don't have an online presence. Big deal there's ATMs everywhere. Not sure why people give a negative review for cash only. They've been open forever (used to be Pontillos on Walnut) so they're doing something right. My only complaint is the old timers here have been known to be a little grumpy on the phone lol. read more

I would always compare pizza I had in buffalo to the pizza here. Grew up and would get lock city for parties and birthdays and it was always amazing. Only complaint I had is that coming back after all these years it was hard to find prices and a menu online. The ones posted were outdated I found out as the pies were more than the menu I found and the poor delivery man had to watch me scramble to find the rest of my cash hidden around to pay him. read more

Perfectly wonderful pizza that is worth the drive from Snyder, NY. The crust is crispy and charred and is a wonderful base for the melted cheese and sorta sweet red sauce. My family and I just moved to the lockport area and this place was Highly recommended from a friend as the "best pizza around." It's to bad that I'll never even get a chance to try it. I went to there facebook page, and clicked on the link for there website, so I could view the menu. It redirected me to Pizza Hut of all places. So at 9:06, on Friday 10/27, I blindly called and asked if they had any pizza and wing combos. To which the male on the phone said "No just our everyday low prices." Although my question wasn't answered, my point was clear I thought . . .(I want pizza and wings). I then said "OK, what size pizzas do you have?'' The man on the other end who at this time made it very clear that we were asking questions outside of his comfort level and far beyond his pay grade. . . . gave out a very loud sigh, and managed to say small and large. I told him a small pepperoni pizza, to which he became very frantic and told me the total and tried to hang up. After doing everything but letting off a fog horn into the phone, this challenged man stopped mid sentence and bellowed in to the phone "HUH", to which I replied "I would also like a single order of wings", to which this very SPECIAL man who was very distraught noticeably raised his voice and said "DO YOU WANT 10, 20, OR 50". Now, I know to the average individual who has gotten past the 4th grade and enjoyed the services of a Pizza Joint before knows. . . . 10 equals Single Order, 20 equals Double Order, and 50 equals Bucket. His response as remedial as it was immediately cleared up things for me . . . It's obviously busy, and they've brought in the Mascot, who stands out front with the businesses sign, flagging down cars, to help answer some phone calls. So I allow myself some patience to press on with the phone call because I'm ever so close to completing my order. After a little back and forth he concedes, and recognizes that a single order is . . . yes, you guessed it, 10 wings. Now this is where everything goes south. . . and I shake my head because I was so, very, very close. I than ask "What sauces do you have for the wings. . . Is it Hot, med, and Mild or are there other flavors . . . . . to which he scolded me "WE BAKE THEM", now I know that I've really been throwing some curveball questions at the Mascot but this is where I have to draw the line, and end the phone call. Now, I can totally understand having new employees who may not be trained sufficiently to answer all of the questions being thrown at them, I've been a business owner for 20+ years, but to be blatantly rude, and yell at a customer asking questions that are very basic to the business you are conducting. . . . that's absolutely unacceptable. read more

We tried this place last week and it was more than a disappointment. Some guy in the Buffalo newspaper that reviews pizza places said this was the best place. That guy has to quit his job as a taste tester, as their pizza is terrible. From their dough to the sauce to the cheese and toppings, it is lacking any flavor whatsoever. I dont care if the place is a dump or if the guys that work there are rude, as long as the food is good thats what matters the most. I was very excited to try this place, seeing that it is almost right next door... I was hoping this would be an amazing.... I guess replacement place for my late and beloved Masterpiece Pizza. Honestly, I was disappointed. It smelled amazing as I brought it home... this place has amazing reviews... but at first bite, something was off. The cheese was good, the sauce was okay... but the bread/crust was the blandest thing I ever tasted. Maybe this was a fluke? I am not sure... but it was like, cardboard. It threw off the entire pizza and I love crust. I couldn't even eat it. I usually don't put everything on the dough, like ever, but it was just sooooo bland, it ruined the pizza. Which is weird because there seemed to be seasoning COVERING the entire bottom and it was flaking off, but there was no taste to it. I will give you guys another go at some point and hopefully update this review more positively, but my bf doesn't really give second chances... so I will have to order next time I have a night to myself. I also thought that $20 was a lot for a large, when quite frankly, I have gotten a much better tasting and LARGER pizza at other places for between $15 - $18. Greasy local classic, formerly part of a small family chain, but stuff happens. Tailored to your taste. Not a real thin crust pizza and they will make a double crust version too. A typical order is a large, cheese, pep, three quarter baked. So it's not scorched anywhere. On occasion I'll even order mine crispy, a little well done crunchy, but not carbon. The sauce I would consider mild, but not sweet either. (like Pizza Oven) My preferred local pizza, on my way home from work. Mostly take out or delivery, but a few cold, hard booths are available. Paper plates, cups and napkins if you dine in. Like eating in a bus station. People in and out. Open late. One of the things missed, by them that move away. read more

This place is super popular in Lockport. My father-in-law and brother-in-law live in Lockport and always wants to get pizza from Lock City. The lobby looks like it was assembled in the 80s and hasn't changed much since. There is some seating for about 20 people, but most people don't eat here they just waiting for their often slower then estimated pizza. The pizza makers are middle aged and look like they have been doing this for years, which gives me confidence. The employees are also super nice, which is for some reason rare in Buffalo! The pizza and wings are good, not mind blowing, but good. At least the pizza isn't sweet like most pizza I have had in Lockport. If the phone is busy when you call to order just keep trying, these guys are busy and not super up to date when is comes to tech. Speaking of which, as far as I know they don't have a website which would be nice for their menu and knowing their prices. So far this is my favorite pizza in Lockport, check it out! read more
