So beautiful! Stayed during the fall two years ago. The sunsets on the water were our favorite

What a comfortable and charming BnB. Reasonable pricing, great shower and kind hosts. I would absolutely stay again.

Really pretty place to have a bridal shower, but very expensive. Expect to pay for each glass and place setting.

The bed was comfortable, the shower/bath is wonderful, and the breakfast was great! We had a nice bonfire in the gazebo, and had a good time hanging out in the loft with a pool table, foosball, video games & more! We definitely recommend Grandma's Cottage and will be back soon!

The…read morecottage is the perfect place to get away from the city and relax- we LOVED the outdoor fire pit. It's inside a gazebo so no worry about bugs- and they had music playing to set the mood (some Dean Martin!) The fireplace inside was ready to light, but since we had such great weather, we didn't use it. The jacuzzi tub is a fantastic place to relax after sitting out by the fire. They provided so many touches to make it a fabulous stay-- chocolate, toothbrushes, bubblebath, even flowers! We opted for brunch and received a HUGE tray of food-- bread, muffins, fruit, sausage, cheese, juice. We didn't see many of the animals but heard the rooster :) The history of the building is awesome, too. But I won't share it here- since you should go find out for yourself! In a way, I didn't want to share this review because I want to keep this place all to myself-- but they deserve to get more awesome guests! Go here. You will not regret it.

My stay at The Iron Horse Hotel was extremely disappointing, especially for a property that markets…read moreitself as a boutique experience. From the moment I walked in, the lobby was overwhelmed with a heavy, Axe body spray-like scent--so strong it felt like walking through a middle school locker room. I assumed it was temporary and that my room would be a relief, but unfortunately, it was worse. The room smelled musty, like a house that hasn't been aired out in years. To make matters worse, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, which is unacceptable for a hotel at this level. Beyond that, the overall cleanliness of the hotel was lacking. For a boutique property, I expected a much higher standard, but the space felt worn and not well-maintained. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the towels were rough--far from the soft, high-end feel you'd expect. The most concerning part of my stay, though, was waking up at 1:45 AM struggling to breathe. It genuinely felt like a reaction to something in the room--possibly mold or poor air quality. I initially thought I was getting sick, but after spending a few hours away the next day, I felt completely normal again, which makes it hard to ignore the room as the cause. If you have any respiratory sensitivities, be cautious. I contacted the front desk to explain the situation and was told checking out early without being charged for another night wouldn't be an issue. I even offered to return around noon so they could turn the room, but was told not to worry since they weren't sold out. When I returned later that day, there was no note, and the staff refused to honor what I had been told, citing the late checkout time. While I understand policies, the inconsistency and lack of follow-through were frustrating. I also dined at the hotel restaurant, which didn't help the experience. The food was overpriced for the quality--my salad was warm, fries were room temperature, and clearly sat out too long. Dessert was equally disappointing; the lemon tart was buried under an excessive amount of powdered sugar, making it unpleasant to eat. It's honestly a sad day when I transferred to a basic airport hotel--Hyatt Place Milwaukee Airport--and had a significantly better experience. The bed was more comfortable, the towels were actually soft, and even the shampoo and conditioner were noticeably better quality. On top of that, the Hyatt was spotless, which only made the lack of cleanliness at Iron Horse stand out even more. Overall, this stay fell far below expectations. Between the condition of the room, air quality concerns, cleanliness issues, and poor service recovery, I won't be returning.

They have a carriage house on site that you can rent on airbnb which would certainly make for a charming stay with such a gorgeous environment laying mere feet away. They host an array of events, from weddings to wine tastings to classes (a gorgeous spot for a wedding with a smaller guest list--this isn't your 400 person wedding sorta spot). For anyone into horticulture or simply looking for ideas to improve your own garden space, you can't help but leave here inspired. An absolute gem in Milwaukee!

The house itself is very architecturally interesting with high molded ceilings and all original fireplaces. It's decorated to look as close to the original as possible. We came as part of #Doorsopenmilwaukee. My daughter was volunteering here later this day. The gardens have an instant peace feeling about them. It's a touch of tranquil in the busy surrounding Downtown. I loved looking at all of the different fauna and flowers. I only wish they had the signs saying what type of plant it was. There are a series of paths, a few fountains, and some nice areas where you can relax. They rent out the gardens for parties and weddings. There was a separate carriage house that has bathrooms and facilities to get dressed for events. I am sorry I didn't know about this place sooner. It's really beautiful!
