I had my team's holiday party here. Their menu doesn't list any GF items so I had to call and confirm. They indicated there are few options available and they had GF buns for the impossible burger. I ended up ordering that and asked what sides are GF. The server advised he would have to confirm with the kitchen. When the food was brought, I had just a patty on the plate with French fries that were touching. I asked if the fries were GF and he said no. I informed him I would need a new patty as well since I couldn't have cross-contamination. When he brought out the new plate, the burger had cheese on it but no bun. He said they ran out. It was disappointing. They do offer one dessert that is GF which was the crème brûlée and it was good. The service was quite slow when greeting us after we sat down and taking our drinks. Second time I was at Deer Path Inn for high tea. This time it was for Christmas. Our waiter, George, was fabulous. We realized he was our waiter the last time we visited. The experience is amazing. It is costly for the holidays but so worth every penny. You need to splurge on yourself every once in a while. Free valet parking is a plus. read more

The restaurant- we drove 30 miles to their English Garden restaurant- Brasserie- and online and their in person menu shows A TRADITIONAL ENGLISH breakfast. We got there and they were out of the English blood pudding which is what makes it English. So they wouldn't take even a little off the bill and the food was fair to average. read more

My husband called and spoke to someone there today who said that second charge should "drop off eventually " which makes no sense. My husband reported it to our bank. Gorgeous location for brunch, drinks, or dinner. Street parking was fairly easy to find, but if you are having difficulty, they do have a valet service. We sat in the English tea room for our monthly book club! Gorgeous patio and ambiance. Lots of great options on the menu ranging from savory to sweet. The English breakfast portion was quite large and as close to traditional as you can get in the US (definitely missed the HP sauce!). First of all the room was lovely. Our server was delightful and our three levels of little sandwiches and lovely desserts were delectable. We were served Chamoagne after we sat for a few minutes and then we gave our tea orders. Shortly after that we were served our three tier platter and our tea. It was a lovely few hours. I'm writing this because I was genuinely disturbed by what I witnessed here. The staff were working hard and doing their best, but management completely failed them. When a racist customer started harassing employees, management stood by and did nothing. Stating that they were a paying customer and there was "nothing he could do". Even worse, the people harassing staff seemed to be off duty ICE workers. Instead of management stepping up to defend their team, they allowed this behavior. No one should have to work under those conditions, and no customer should have to watch it happen. Until this place starts protecting its workers and creating a safe, respectful environment, I can't support it. read more

High Tea, we had a delicious and fun time celebrating my sister's Stacci's birthday. The service was prompt, the only things we didn't care for, they started clearing the table before we had risen. Spilled champagne on the Hostess. I thought it was pricey at $85 per person. Lots of fond memories, I held my sisters baby shower here in 1990. Old World Charm which had not change much since then. Has gone downhill. If you note all of the low end ratings are from the past year to two years. This management team that has strangled this once luxury inn to death. We have been coming for over 5 years, staying in the most $$$ room. Ordering room service, etc. this will be our last stay until things improve. If you're old money or like to pretend that you are, this place is perfect for you. But if you're looking to spend $85 per person on brunch, have truly exceptional food, with amazing service and gorgeous ambiance, you're better off going to Le Colonial, Sophia Steak or Pomeroy. Don't get me wrong, the place has old world charm. I'm glad I tried it out and I'll probably come back for a drink at the downstairs bar which is unique in the area. But it's dated, the buffet was just okay (the dessert table and oysters were great but otherwise meh), and the best display of customer service were the friendly valet guys greeting us at the door. Given all the trendy places that have opened up in recent years, I honestly can't think of any reason to spend that much on brunch here besides status signaling. read more

This is my absolute favorite place to be in Lake Forest! This had been a favorite of my family for years. I love the Tudor style building and gardens area. My family and I love coming here for birthdays and any big celebration. Last night, my family came for my mom's birthday dinner. We were seated in the English Room and had great views of the garden. The room reminded me of being in a old fashioned greenhouse/old garden pavillion in England. To drink, I had a Cosmo. It had a very pretty pink color. Appetizer: my family and I split the charcuterie board. The fig jam was amazing! Entree: I had the scallops and wild mushroom risotto, which was very good. Very filling. Later, we went to the downstairs bar area and had a drink. I had the Fuller's London Pride Ale. Overall, a great experience! We will definitely be back soon! read more

The Deerpath Inn hotel serves high tea in the enclosed sun porch of the English Room! It's a beautiful, bright space that's so inviting you won't want to leave. I'm a sucker for a killer ambiance and this place nailed it! It FAR exceeds a few of the high teas I've been to around the burbs and in Chicago! I also love that you can adjust your food preferences accordingly! They did a great job with the vegetarian sandwiches and it didn't feel like second thought like some places! The scones are so tasty and tart with the lemon curd. They may have been my favorite part! The tea itself is high quality, deep flavor and you get a jar to bring home! If you enjoy high tea or just a wonderful ambience - come here and don't think twice! My cousin tried to get information for our relatives coming in from New York, she spoke to Lindsey who was very arrogant, no manners, it was like pulling teeth to try and get dates and rates for stays, add an attitude to the mix. When asked again for a specific date, she did not say, " sure, let me check", there was no communication, she had to ask are you still there, at that point she asked to speak to the manager stated he overheard the conversation, this tells me the new manager as of last year needs to do better especially since he states he heard the whole conversation on her part, really and then gets on the phone and is not much better, no apologies, this is now what you would expect from the DPI. read more

The High Tea experience was truly disappointing. I was at this High Tea after Christmas 2023 and it was extraordinary, a special, worth the cost experience. High Tea today was not worth the cost and not worth a drive to Lake Forest. The servings were smaller. The amount of filling on the sandwiches was so sparse, I couldn't identify the contents. I read the menu online when I got home. I honestly didn't know that I had a salmon sandwich and a beef sandwich. The few pieces of dessert were also unexceptional. I'd even say the bread was dry. Two Strikes & You're Out! First strike: Went to Deerpath Inn for dinner with girlfriends, arrived early, sat at the bar for a drink. Despite sitting in front of a bartender, I literally could not buy a drink! Meanwhile, men were ordering and being served drinks over my shoulder. It was as if I was invisible! Second Strike: Wanting to give them a second chance, I booked a table for Easter Brunch with my 89 year old mother in law. Reservation confirmed. Then, without as much as a phone call, cancelled, leaving us scrambling. Apparently, they had a glitch in their reservation system. When I spoke with a manager by the name of Mario, asking him to make it right, he engaged in sexism & defensiveness and explained how I should be "nicer" about the situation. Our schedule was pretty hectic, so instead of going to tea, we decided to do takeout. I ordered online, which was really easy, though it would have been nice to get a reminder closer to the date. The space is beautiful and it was packed (not sure if that's normal - or if it's due to the recent award) but I had to wait longer than anticipated for my pickup (I assumed it would have been ready so a + and - that I had to wait but food was fresher). It was fun while it lasted, I guess we won't be going back here again.. When we arrived no one told us there was an elevator but someone did offer to help us carry down our stroller. The service was horrible, we were not made aware that only the buffet was available until after we were seated for 20 minutes waiting for the rest of our party. Sunday brunch is $68 for adults and $35 for kids, gratuity was added since we had a party of four adults, a toddler and newborn. Right before we left another guest from a nearby table went up and cut up is own meat because there was no one around to help him. Aside from the service, the stale bread and subpar spread left me wanting more. It is no wonder the dining room was pretty much empty. I don't expect much when it comes to a buffet food as it's usually the same most places. I had prime rib, charcuterie, oysters and cocktail shrimp. My daughter enjoyed the sweets table. Our table in particular was shunned by the wait staff as our server did everything to avoid coming around to our table. We were the only table with a toddler and newborn there, could that have been it. In the hour and a half we were there they only filled our water once and we had to wave them down which was a battle in its self my husband and our friend took turns trying to get someone's attention. It maybe me regret turning down the offer for a mimosa or Prosecco when we arrived, but as I'm still nursing I wanted to avoid alcohol. We weren't even given any other option of drinks available. It was our first time joining them for brunch and was going in blind. Truly wish we could get our money back. A far cry from the service my daughter and I received for tea time just weeks before. It's such a beautiful location, it's such a shame. I've never seen my husband so irritated about the bill. No one even made us aware that they were starting to clean up or that service was about to finish. I had so much hope for this to be able to find a spot to bring the family that is not in the city but there's a reason why we would rather pay more and go through traffic for good service. read more

I called and made appointment and spoke to someone at 10:56am. Mandy told us they have no reservations for us. Mandy said they never take any high tea reservations for the day of at all. They go through dietary restrictions and other information with the party ahead. I told her I should have taken the name of the woman that took our information. The male staffer said he would check to see if they had enough tea sandwiches and let us know. They were able to accommodate us last minute and gave us some bottled waters in the interim while they set us up a table ahead. The squirrel with the mask in the front entry is a tribute to the squirrel that used to come here to get some snacks. We got a bit of Prosecco, some berry kisses tea, chocolate cream truffles and the black currant. Hicham is waiting on us. Our tea set is Wedgewood wild strawberry. The poppy seed scone was okay, a bit dry and lacks in flavor. The lemon curd, Devonshire cream (clotted cream) and the berry preserve were all good. The black currant and berry are both nice teas. The chocolate truffle tea is decent. The roast beef with the horseradish and watercress is okay. The shrimp and taragon lemon dressing in a puff. The chicken herb salad with slivered almond is a decent size and quite flavorful and yummy. The roasted tomato quiche is good, crust is a bit dry, but has a nice buttery flavor to it too. The goat cheese and asparagus quiche was also okay, same dry crust. The Victoria sponge was decent, some preserve inside the sponge. The chocolate mousse cup was quite tasty. Fruit custard tart was also good. The opera cake has a nice slightly crunchy bottom layer, some hints of coffee, it's good. The citrus cheesecake wasn't my thing. They do give you a sample of each of hot teas. My husband realized when they gave us a sample of each of our teas that he got the cherry fig instead of his chocolate truffle. The chocolate truffle is nice, had a bit of coconut in it as well. $165 for 3 of us after tax. Food was okay. Service was good. read more

Supposedly a top-notch place. We are guests staying here, and went to have dinner in the main restaurant. Our son has serious food allergies, of which we had notified the hotel before and reiterated with our server at dinner. He was great and noted the allergies on the ticket. Nonetheless, our son's meal arrived with his allergens in full view on the plate. Our server was horrified. An arrogant manager came and said he had the allergy situation under control, which was far from true given he didn't even understand the scope of the allergies. Did he think we would be fine with a swarthy manager giving a line when their carelessness could have seriously harmed our son? I guess they did their best overall. Sure. Let's say that. But their best, for the price and the reputation, is poor. You are much better off going elsewhere. read more
