This review is for a three-night stay in a kitchenette room from Friday night through Monday morning in mid-March. guest room: The two Queen beds were great! The room had a television cabinet, easy chair, table, and chairs. Since we were in a kitchenette, we also had a big fridge with freezer, countertop stove, microwave, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. The bathroom and dressing area are spacious and well designed. The rate was $135 with no taxes or fees. staff: Front desk staff were great. Our key cards were ready when we arrived. Because of a snowstorm on the morning we left, the front desk offered ice scrapers to dig out our vehicles. common spaces: There are tables and chairs in the lobby for use at breakfast. Appears there is coffee round-the-clock. food and beverage: No bar or restaurant and only a handful of places in North Chicago, but Lake Bluff and Lake Forest are nearby with tons of options. The complimentary breakfast is just fine. Bonus points for the Navy's logo appearing in the center of the waffle press! other: The lodge has a large vending area with ice and filtered water. Came out for our son's graduation from the RTC and stayed at the Navy Lodge. It made the whole trip way smoother. Check-in was quick and friendly; staff were warm and helpful from start to finish. They keep things professional without losing that personal touch. Big appreciation for the shuttle driver. I didn't catch his name. We booked the 7:00 AM shuttle and rolled up to the gate 8 at 7:09. By 7:13, we were seated inside the venue. Meanwhile, we passed a line of cars at least 100 plus deep--easily an hour + wait, maybe more. If you're attending graduation: don't drive. Seriously, you'll regret it. The shuttle is reliable, fast, and way less stressful. The rooms were neat and functional. Pillows were firm, which we appreciate. Nothing fancy, but comfortable and clean, with solid Wi-Fi. It's quiet, pet-friendly, and perfect if you're bringing a four-legged sidekick. Continental breakfast is basic. Boiled eggs, package slices of bread, bagels and fruit,. Basically, grab-and-go items to start your morning, but don't expect a full spread. Still, it's convenient for early starts. read more

Front desk was nice, however, room service could've been better. Upon arrival we pulled out the pull out couch and the sheets were dirty, covered in stains and food crumbs. We changed the sheets and set the dirty ones aside. There was also trash stuffed in the couch that we threw away and finger nail clippings inside the desk. Besides that, we had a good stay and the front desk had plenty of resources if you are here for Navy bootcamp graduation. read more

Okay so This hotel is still awesome, but my last stay rubbed me all the wrong way. Firstly this trip we stayed in room 116 which is VERY close to the breakfast area. Next time I stay I will specifically ask to stay far away because holy crap is it loud. I don't know if it was just this weekend or what but they were loud until 10pm and then from 6am onward with breakfast. I'm talking hootin and hollering loud. As a light sleeper, this sucked. Speaking of breakfast it just keeps getting worse. The waffles are now these super sugary premade prepackaged things. The eggs are prepackaged now as well. The fruit selection is worse and the pastries they served were basically stale. The juice was good I supposed but it's hard to mess up prepackaged OJ. The coffee was terrible and full of grounds. The bathroom had pink slime on the shower wall. When I was checking out I informed them of this and they just shrugged their shoulders. I know it's from the hard water and being wet, but I also know if you clean it then it doesn't just build up in a day or even two. It takes a good while. The "best" part of my stay however was when someone gouged the crap out of my car door. I had to fill out a liability form, get someone from asset protection to come look at my car, and get the Navy police from the base to come over. This, of course, took quite some time and delayed us almost 2 hours. Wouldn't have been a huge deal if we hadn't been driving so far with a small child. I still haven't heard back from the Navy Lodge or the Navy police about my car or what I'm supposed to do. I get that crap happens, but when blah. They need to replace some of their beds, keep guests more quiet in the common areas, and consider bringing back the waffle maker. It wasn't amazing, but it was sure better than what they have now. Maybe I should just start staying at La Quinta instead. read more

Clean and comfortable beds which is most important. Breakfast is not great. We arrived to a broken ac and the maintenance guy did fix it within 45 min which was pretty great. Overall though they didn't clean our room the whole 5 day 4 night visit. When we asked if they would clean it the next day they basically said maybe and didn't. I've never been to a hotel where they refuse to take our your trash and do a light cleaning. We had to bring our trash to the front desk and request for more coffee/towels and toilet paper - not enough in the room to begin with. So 3 stars for clean room, comfy bed and good maintenance guy. Appreciate the price and convenience but you get what you pay for. Nothing fancy here. Nothing that bad either. read more

My wife and I decided to use the Navy Lodge when visiting for our son's RTC graduation last week. Over the years, we have learned overpaying for a hotel that you only sleep in is not worth it. They had great staff throughout, who even had a sense of humor, which is always a plus. The room was in great shape, but the bathroom a bit small, which really wasn't a big deal. The only issue we had was someone failed to clean out the food left from the previous patron, but we just utilized this opportunity as a joke stating someone left their kids in our room, as there were four frozen eggs in the fridge. All in all, a great experience! Will definitely use them from here out when visiting out sailor. Great Job! read more

We recently stayed at the Navy Lodge and it was great. Staff were very kind and helpful, they provide a continental breakfast where you can make your own delicious waffles, and they've got coffee available all through the day and night for those parents who are going in and out of graduation and pickups/dropoffs. The rooms aren't super modern, but it didn't matter since it met our needs with cleanliness and had everything we needed which included a microwave, refrigerator, powerful AC, coffee maker, and a nice-sized bathroom. They also had USB outlets everywhere which was great. Outside they've got plenty of parking and what's also a plus is that you're about a mile away from the base, the Burkley Mall to get your graduation tickets and Navy gear, plus you're a walk away from the NEX gas station which has a lot of great deals on anything you might have forgotten to pack. The whole neighborhood feels safe and secure. Overall this place is the place to go if you want to attend Navy graduation quicker than others... just make sure you wake up early and leave by 6am. The only amenities this hotel doesn't have is a fitness room and pool (I believe), but again, you're here to see your sailor, not indulge in a vacation resort. Highly recommend. read more

** NOW HEAR THIS ** My review will cover the Navy Lodge and other, not mentioned in other reviews informations that will hopefully address some of the questions you may have if visiting for a sailors "Pass In Review." The Navy Lodge is located in an annex area of Naval Station Great Lakes. It's accessible by public transportation and NO military or government ID is required to enter the area. But, even though the lodge is located in an annexed area, the homes, streets and buildings are part of the base and on military property. ALL laws and enforcement are done by military or DOD police. So, if you want to speed or roll through a stop signs, you'd better think twice because the military and DOD police are zero tolerant and CAN revoke your visiting privilege(s). Reservations at the Navy Lodge can be made by active duty, retired military and DOD personnel, both currently working and retired. You can also make reservation If your a dependent, parent or other immediate family of the sailors graduating from basic. Just call ahead via the 800 number or call the front desk of the lodge directly. All that's required for your stay is your sailors name. Before your stay, know the Navy Lodge is an older building. Other than new TV's and furniture in the lobby area, you'll find the deco, appliances and lighting inside the rooms a bit outdated and dark. But, the rooms, linen and towels are clean and the hot water works. The folks working the front desk and the housekeeping staff are exceptional at their jobs. Everyone I talked with were pleasant, knowledgable, helpful and sincere when I asked questions or needed help about the hotel or questions in general about the surrounding areas. If you need something, don't hesitate to ask. This includes but are not limited to: recommendations for dining, outdoor activities and local shopping. ** This is especially true If you happen to run across Christine at the front desk. She really knows her stuff and is always eager to help if she can. ** Be sure to grab your NEX temporary shopping card and your shopping & dining maps when you check in. This is also a good time to purchase your shuttle ride tickets for the trip back and forth from the PIR ceremony. There's no need to get to the PIR before 7:30 AM. You'll still get a great seat and you won't be sitting around and waiting for three plus hours. Other than a quiet and clean room, the Navy Lodge offers a complementary continental type breakfast each morning. The meals usually include milk, juice, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee and do-it-yourself waffles. The front desk also sell deserts, sodas, juice and several types of sandwiches. On the evenings the night before graduation, the front desk staff normally host a meet & mingle evening reception consisting of complementary snacks and drinks. Also on hand the night before graduation, you'll find the Service League folks selling your sailors division pictures, challenge coins and other commemorative items in the hotels lobby. If you miss them, don't worry. You'll see them again, selling the items on the parade floor before the PIR. When the ceremony is over, don't be surprised if you find yourself waiting for your sailor for two plus hours. This is especially true if, your sailor is due to ship out the next day for "A" School. Staying at the Navy Lodge is a win win all around. It's inexpensive. Centrally located. Quiet, clean and employs some of the most helpful and talented staff I've ever encountered. To start on a positive note the staff at the Navy Lodge were very nice. As for the property the hotel Is in need of new carpet and a good deep cleaning. We're were there for 4 nights. The room wasn't cleaned one time. Our trash wasn't emptied and housekeeping never came into the room. The carpet smelled musty and the room smelled awful. Is this how we want to welcome our new military members and their families into the military community? There was a continental breakfast which consisted of packaged oatmeal, cartons of low-fat milk, cartons of yogurt, boiled eggs, and packaged pastries and fresh coffee every day. The price was very reasonable but the property needs to be kept up a little better. read more

Very clean and I love how they did the closet and the bathroom it's so open and gives it a nice not so cluttered feeling. Parking is great lots of room for families who are pcs-ing with trailers. Also I love how it's located right in housing, it makes it easy when you're going back and forth to clean out your house. Price is great too. read more

To begin with the rating is for what the Lodge intends to be and the people it serves. As I'm giving it 5 stars, those 5 stars are just that. This was actually the second time we had stayed at this lodge for the Navy PIR graduation. The first time was 4 years ago. The rooms were super clean, beds comfortable and very nicely decorated. The lodge is a short distance from the graduation hall on base and staff at this hotel had all the details for us at check-in .... including a gate pass. The included morning breakfast was scheduled earlier than normal on the day of graduation to accommodate those folks going to it. A shuttle was even provided for people who chose not to drive. Our room had a kitchen and still had space to spare for a rollaway bed. It easily accommodated the five people in our group. At $76 a night, it was quite a bargain. The hotel was festive with all the families of the graduates. In our opinion, this is the only place to stay when attending boot camp graduation in Great Lakes. read more

I really like this place! It holds a special place in my heart because I stayed here the weekend I got engaged to my sailor man 5 years ago :) They have done some major renovations since then, and I love the new look. We had a very spacious room with a high ceiling, and the lobby had plenty of comfy seating. Breakfast could use some work, I always hate it when your plain bagel tastes like the danish it sat beside in storage, blech. But otherwise they do a good job with it. The service is SO friendly here too. No complaints with it at all! Seems I'm here every 5 years for a graduation... Looking forward to seeing where I am 5 years from now... This was a Nice place to crash when we didn't get the keys to our home yet. My family was able to watch the carton movies available up front for free, had wifi and a pretty nice continental breakfast. The Staff & experience was great over all, Expect for sailor sexing it up in the parking lot. I was honestly disappointed to know that people stoop to crazy lows, even in FAMILY environments. ***To the girl/guy who was invited to that graduates Van session.. If that Sailor cant even get a room for you at the NAVY LODGE (cheapest place around) then that says something more about YOU don't you think?. "Standards" don't know what they are? Great stay. Our Sailor enjoyed the comfort of the lodge. Our room had a kitchenette, small kitchen table, recliner, 2 queen beds, shower ect. Clean, quiet, comfortable. Allowed us to spend some quality time in a home like setting with our son. Breakfast in the morning down near check in desk. Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, juices, coffee, waffles, toast, bagels, pastries, cereal, fruit, oatmeal. And in same area a very nice lodge area to sit and chat with your Sailors friends that are staying here as well. They are re furnishing many rooms right now. So a lot of lodge is torn apart and messy. But don't worry about it disturbing you. It won't. It was very quiet the entire 5 days we stayed. They also have a shuttle to and from PIR ceremony. I stayed at the Navy Lodge in Great Lakes for my son's PIR. And while they don't have the most modern furniture and their mattresses are kind of lumpy, it was a great place to stay. The people were kind and helpful, always. The room was immaculate, no random smudges or hairs in the bathroom. You can borrow dvds to watch in the room on the provided dvd player! They have an exercise room, which is not advertised, with 2 treadmills, an elliptical and a recumbent bike. Their breakfasts are great with a wide variety of fruit and pastries, GOOD tea and coffee. They offer cheap shuttle service to PIR but unlike what a previous reviewer said do not wait to get to the hall. I left at approximately 6:45 and by the time I got in the gate there were almost no seats left in the hall. Leave as early as you possibly can! Make sure though that you make reservations as soon as possible, it fills up quickly! read more

I'm very satisfied with our stay at this Navy Lodge! Check in was quick and easy, the front desk is right there as soon as you enter. The woman who checked us in was very knowledgeable about the Navy graduation we came to attend and gave us menus for restaurants who deliver to the lodge. You may be surprised that the hotel is MUCH larger than it looks from the outside. Facility amenities: - free parking - free wi-fi - free breakfast in the morning - 2 queen room had a full kitchen with a stove, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, dishes, sink, and everything you need! - laundry room located on the 1st floor (open 24 hours!) - vending machines galore for drinks and snacks I would have deducted 1 star for the a spotty water pressure in the shower, but I think all the pro's outweighed this one con. The water temperature was awesome anyway, which I value over water pressure. The NEX gas station/convenience store is 1 block over, which was very convenient. read more

We got to stay here because our son was to graduate from the Navy boot camp just a mile away. Only military families can stay at this lodge. The front receptionists and the ladies that clean the rooms were very nice and courteous. The rooms were very clean and there were lots of towels and 4 pillows on each bed. If we needed anything the ladies were happy enough to give you more. Each room has a microwave and a fridge, for those left overs, which is nice because we always order way too much. They have snack dispensers by the ice machines and plenty of parking. The only thing I have a slight complaint about would be that when we checked in, they said that they would be serving a complimentary breakfast of bacon and eggs before the graduation 5-9am. Yum! My 10 year old son was super excited to hear that, considering it was a long night and was tired of all the hustle and bustle from the airport. But it was not to be, tho, they did have a buffet with bagels, boiled eggs, cold and hot cereal, coffee and juice. I guess I wasn't too concerned with that, I was just so excited for the graduation. I would stay here again if given a chance. The rate was like $15 more a night but considering how close it is to the base, it was all worth it. read more

Let me tell you about this wonderful gem! It is very accommodating and for the price we paid for our 5 day stay was so much more than we could've asked for. Conveniently located nearby the Navy Boot Camp and Recruit Graduation, the area does have both classic and up and coming features. Yes, the hotel is old by today's standards, yet it is very clean and there's lots of space in the room. We were very surprised by the near full kitchen (with pots and cooking ware; sufficient enough to cook a decent meal that we found as well as the high ceiling which was most welcoming. Beds were very comfortable, supplying 4 pillows. Bathroom was in the smaller side that did lean dates too. No in room safe, but you get your standard blow dryer, iron and ironing board. The lazy boy chair was an added touch. Single drawback was the low water pressure in the bath tub/shower; yet, an abundant amount of hot water does make up for this flaw. There is however, a bad Smokey smell through the bathroom vent whenever activated. Coin laundry on site that cost you a $1 to wash and another $1 to dry. They offer free continental breakfast in the morning (no breakfast meat) that includes fresh waffles (DIY), prepared hot oatmeal (mediocre), bagels and bread, assorted juices, cereals, coffee and tea with some fresh fruits. While the NEX convenient store just down the street, there is much variety of restaurant choices also nearby. There is an NEX and Commissary in the neighborhood as well. Very nice staff and again the price was so attractive. I did forget to mention that you do not need to be military to stay at this place so it benefits everyone. I stayed last night. I knew about these places, looked into staying at ones in different cities, but never did...until last night. Between a late night and an extra early next morning, I opted to not drive home to sleep for 3-4 hours. I drove to the Lodge so I could sleep 5-6. It was easy to find, ample parking, check in was easy/quick, the front desk lady was extremely nice, and the lobby was more than adequate. My room had 2 Queen Beds, a mini fridge (pretty big for a mini fridge), a microwave, a desk, and then everything else that you'd expect. I was really surprised at how nice everything was. The bed was comfy, not the same as MY bed, but as far as hotels go-it was on the better end of what I've experienced. The room felt really spacious, and the bathroom was huge. I can't comment on the noise, hustle and bustle, or the less than positive aspects others have listed. I got there late and left before most people wake up. If you're staying the later part of the week or the weekend, this place would fill up, and probably get a bit hectic. It is down the street from where Navy Boot Camp holds graduations. 700+ Recruits Graduating every week, and this is the prime hotel for those parents/families. The value is tremendous. I've stayed in far worse rooms for far more money. If there's a Navy Lodge in an area that you want to go, don't hesitate to book a room!! I wouldn't stay here if you're looking to visit Chicago on the cheap, but if you're doing anything in the Great Lakes area-book here first. read more

I had a nice basic breakfast on Friday for free. The room was up to date and clean and most important the beds where perfect. I like how front desk went over many items and had lots of info printed out. I didn't need much as I prepared ahead if time. I can't even say one bad thing about this place! read more
