Close to the military camp our Son competed 9 weeks. I like how they have a few breakfast items; oatmeal, yogurt, waffles, cold cereal, every morning til 9AM. They do not have a gym to work out nor a pool. The beds are firm. The rooms are decent with a mini fridge & safe. The shower was nice temperature hot no other issues in the room other than no microwave, but you can heat up food in their breakfast area. read more

I reserved a room several months ago and canceled due to needing bigger accommodations for a large blended family. I canceled and received a confirmation. They still ended up charging my credit card for $120.00 no show fee. I called as soon as I saw the pending charges and I was informed to call back after 8am on Monday. I called back Monday morning and they indicated that they adjusted it on their end and would email me the confirmation. The paperwork shows how they adjusted it to a zero balance but never credited my credit card. Now I have to dispute the charges. Ridiculous. In Chicago for Naval Graduation Stayed at Lake Bluff near base. Rooms were very nice and clean. Plenty of parking and close to nice restaurants(15 min). Staff and manager were very helpful as I left(forgot) a rather expensive item in my room. I called and they had it at the desk. After confirming that it was mine the manager promptly mailed it and I had it back 3 days later. Honesty goes a long way in my book so I would definitely recommend a stay here. read more

I only visit Chicago as of now to see my wife at Great Lakes. This hotel is in a great location. The base is less than a 15 min drive. Then Libertyville is right up the road with great places to eat and some shopping. Gurnee mall and Hawthorn mall aren't far from this place either. The room has all that I need, as I travel alone. It is clean and doesn't smell. Isn't loud and I haven't seen any dogs! Free breakfast. You get the money's worth if you are going to visit your Sailor!! read more

We had a great stay during our recent trip to Great Lakes for my sons bootcamp graduation. Great location, close to NEX to pick up tickets and the base for pick up and drop off of my sailor. Easy check in, cozy room, small beds (full size), good continental breakfast, coffee & tea 24/7. At check-in we were told about the hotel shuttle service to graduation and figured they'd know the best way to get us in and out quickly. They have two time slots available and they have several pick up times also, your soldier rides free if he's off immediately after (most were not). After graduation we were greeted with celebratory chocolate cake, cookies & coffee/tea. When we realized my son would be staying with us we were given extra blankets, sheets and towels to accommodate him. The room is to small for a rollout bed. I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again. read more

I needed to find a place for my Father to stay for my Sister's Navy graduation. This would be his first time leaving our home state, his first plane ride and he'd be travelling alone (he doesn't even know how to use Uber)! I didn't know where to start and luckily spoke to Andy... After speaking with Andy I knew this is where I wanted my Dad to stay. From our very first conversation I could tell that Andy was genuinely concerned and wanted to help. Nice place to stay if you're visiting for graduation. Upon check in, the receptionist gave us a welcome bag with snacks and information about the graduation; it was a pleasant surprise. The hotel provides breakfast in the morning (starting at 6am on regular days and 5:30am for graduation days) and coffee and tea is provided throughout the day. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. There was even cake being served at the lobby during our stay. The rooms are decent and pretty clean, the only down side of the stay was that the walls are pretty thin. But overall we had a good stay here. read more

This hotel is in doityourself mode. There is no maid service, so you need to bag up your own trash and take to the dumpster, and each day go to the front desk to request any of the essentials that are normally provided. They still charge full price though. The room is tiny, so much so that there is no place to set the suitcase except in the middle of the floor where you walk back and forth. Friends stayed in. Springhill suite by Marriott that was nearby and paid nearly the same amount but had more than double the space. Price we paid was $122 a night, but it felt like it should have been more like $50. The bed and pillows were super comfy though, and the young people working the front desk were very nice and helpful. read more

We were visiting the naval base and area for the first time. The check in staff and clerks on duty were extremely helpful, kind, friendly and willing to please. But the elevator was broken the entire time we were there, which meant lugging suitcases up and down three flights. The woman at the front desk seemed like she didn't care about her job, and certainly not the guests, if she was even around. I went to the Sleep Inn while visiting Great Lakes naval station. The staff was very helpful, the prices were great and they had good availability. My room was clean and a very nice room. We highly recommend this hotel, very close to the base, and they have a shuttle available to and from the pir ceremony. If all you need is a bed to sleep in and a place to put your stuff then this is great. If you're looking to actually take a shower though, I don't know about that. We stayed for about a week and getting into that shower instantly made me depressed. The shower was essentially the size of a port-a-potty and likely made out of the same hard plastic material with the same door-entry. It was a dark awkward closet. The shower head was so horrible you couldn't even call it a shower. It was more of a mist. The water spray was so fine half the time I wondered if I was actually getting wet. I think you'd get a better shower running naked through a thick fog. read more

Stayed for one night while house shopping in the area. Room was nothing especially fancy, but clean and relatively well-maintained. My only complaint is that the walls were very thin, and the doors have no sound-blocking ability whatsoever. You're going to hear every single noise around you. What brought this up to a four-star rating was the staff. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and never act as if you're bothering them if you call or visit the front desk. Which would've been useful in this winter weather. If you're looking for a place to crash at an affordable price, this is your place. If you're looking for luxury, might want to look elsewhere. I stayed here from 5/14 - 5/16 2015 for my son's graduation from Great Lakes. The front desk staff are really nice, friendly and helpful. The hotel is outdated and the wall paper is peeling. In addition, there was white stains on the comforter and I am convinced that this was not the hotel lotion spill. The comforter stayed on the floor. The breakfast is absolutely not OK. The sausage patties were undercooked (white), the eggs are circular and I am not OK with that. The fresh fruit is good and the service is amazing. Stayed here 6/13/18 thru 6/16/18. I was attending my son's RTC graduation. I was quite pleased with the hotel. It is not fancy, but it is clean and comfortable which is what I needed. My bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The service was excellent and they provided shuttle service to graduation. ($6 a person r/t) Also, just next door to the hotel is a Subway, McDonalds, Dunkin' Donuts, and a convenience store. Across the street is the Full Moon diner which is open 24 hours. The shuttle to graduation was very convenient and Luis, the shuttle driver, was very helpful and answered all of our questions. The hotel is located 5 minutes from the Recruit Family Welcome Center where you pick up your tickets for graduation. It is also about 7 minutes from the Drill Hall where graduation occurs. Plus, the hotel is near restaurants and Target, which came in very handy for us. The hotel is in a more industrial area, but the convenience of being right down the street from the RTC was well worth it. I would stay here again. read more

My wife and I stayed here to watch my daughter graduate Naval RTC. We stayed for 4 nights and have no complaints. The staff is fantastic and very welcoming. There is plenty to do just a short distance away, and the staff was always willing to help with directions and recommendations. This is a no frills hotel at a great price that can't be beat. We have a dear son who is a new graduate from the Recruit training center at Great Lakes just down the road from this hotel. Somehow with multiple family members coming out for the event I was finding difficulty not knowing the geography of the landscape and I located Sleep inn via a booking site. We had a party of 7 and booked 4 rooms exactly to our liking right away and thankful we did for many places were getting pretty full. I saw some of the disappointed reviewers about this hotel but let me stop you here. The staff were wonderful: we got a thorough orientation to our shuttle bus which is available from the hotel at multiple times to and from the Navy school.. for $3 per person. Whitney who booked us in was wonderful!! I got so much information from her at the outset and she was never flustered by our multiple "new Navy parents" questions. Our rooms were great! One even had a great whirlpool tub. FREE Wifi Free Wifi!! You don't get that in most places and it worked well. For $84 or so with AAA discount we could not miss out. The staff were not even flummoxed by all families and kids running up for info. I found the place to be clean and the breakfast was pretty good. Eggs, bagels, danishes, cereals, oatmeal, and all the accountrements. You get good air conditioning for sleeping. Parking is plentiful. I am giving Juan the shuttle/taxi driver a separate review because he is just amazing. On the way to the graduation ceremony he takes the time to give you a full 20 minute description of how you cannot allow your recruit/graduate to drive, drink alcohol, or return to the base in a poor condition. He notes the gate to which you bring your recruit. He tells you exactly what to expect about pick up and that it is free for the recruit to drive home to the hotel in his shuttle with you. Juan was helpful, accommodating and told us to be sure to return our children to the Navy school one hour before the alloted time since others are checking in. You cannot drop them off outside the gate. For all these infractions the recruits can get in big trouble. We were so busy we did not really hang out or get whirlpool baths but this is the perfect place to stay: 4 or so miles from the Great Lakes Training Center and a very convenient and helpful place to be if you are new to the area. There is a huge Walmart at the Fountain Place Center for decorations for the rooms too. We made a goody bag and decorated one of our rooms for my son's return. Lots of places to eat. The Silo is very friendly for families and groups. Food is good. Not far away. All in all we had a wonderful experience and recommend Sleep Inn if you come for the Navy graduations. Don't listen to the whiners who expect to pay a nominal price and get a Hilton experience.. Who spends much time in the shower or the room? See what I'm saying? It is the demeanor of the staff and the convenience which make this a great spot and I am sticking to my determination. read more

I stayed here a couple of nights recently and honestly found it to be a pretty good room. I thought the shower pressure was totally fine (it might be different in other rooms?) and nothing to complain about. The room I stayed in was well equipped, had good amenities, and was clean - what more could I ask for? The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly as well. It doesn't have to be the Ritz Carlton to be a good place to stay. On a different note, do not count on Uber for transportation in this area! Take Elite Taxi or rent a car. read more

The management of this hotel are unbelievable, they literally stole my money. I called the front desk asking for a taxi service to take me to the airport that evening. They recommended his buddy "elite taxi service". I called and made an appointment for 2am. That night I waited in the lobby from 1:45 to 2:15 and the cab never showed so I called their number 3 times with no response. At this point I called a local cab company out of the phonebook who said they can't guarantee a pick up and would call me back. I asked the manager of Sleep Inn for help getting a cab to the airport and he called his buddy again on his cell and got him out of bed. And said 'he'll be here soon'. At this point, to my surprise, the phone book cab showed up without warning. So I went to get in their cab. And then his buddy finally showed up and they insisted I have to take his buddy's cab. I said no because the phone book cab came on time and they couldn't be bothered. The manger told me he would charge my credit card anyway for his buddy. I said no way! He was late, I didn't take his cab, and you certainly don't have my permission to use the credit card information from my room to pay an unrelated business. I left in the phone book cab. And a few minutes later I see on my phone that they charged my credit card the full cost of a ride to the airport 55$ under 'sleep inn.' read more

UPDATE: On my last night there, I woke up during the night choking. I grabbed a hand towel, and spit a little into it, and then realized I had a nose bleed. I used the same towel to stop that. Having been a paramedic for 35+ years, I know how to get the job done. In the morning I left the maid $20 for having to deal with this one towel. Nevertheless, the hotel charged my credit card an extra $100! I called and spoke to the manager Andy. I told him that the whole room didn't cost $100, and should have been comped on how hot it was. I acknowledged having damaged one hand towel, which he told me they would have thrown away, rather than bother to have it laundered. At any rate, he promised to get back to me after he spoke to his staff. He never did. After repeated attempts to reach him (more than 6), I filed a complaint with my bank for an unauthorized charge. I would have gladly paid $5-10, but $100 was outrageous. The bank credited me a refund when the hotel didn't answer their inquiries. Later, when MasterCard refused to pay them the $100, they disputed that. By the time their dispute channeled through MasterCard and back to my bank, the time to answer his complaint had passed. He had sent some very splotchy black and white photos (that were impossible to discern anything in) as "proof". My bank was then forced to charge me, to pay MasterCard and then the hotel. Apparently the hotel knows that a dispute through MasterCard cannot be answered in the time that MasterCard allows, so they go this route. I have never in my life had such poor treatment from any "hospitality" provider. I think they are VERY dishonest, underhanded, and backstabbing to do this to families they know they likely won't see again. My best recommendation would be to STAY ELSEWHERE! read more

Stayed at the Sleep Inn for 4 nights while attending my son's graduation from Navy Basic Training, and liberty weekend in Chicago. Hotel was solid and staff was very friendly and responsive, and provided good information on local establishments and travel. In terms of location the only other place that may have been better was the Navy Lodge, but that's splitting hairs. This was a more convenient location than any other that I saw. We were in and out of the Naval Museum and base area on that side of the facilities several times and the distance to and around that area was minimal. Would highly recommend this hotel for Navy Graduations. They also have shuttle service to and from the airport and graduation and can provide information on anything, or so it seemed. Also provide a free breakfast which was basic but solid. read more

Very Disappointing Not a very good hotel. First, I rented two adjoining room for my son's graduation from the Navy Boot Camp (PIR) and needed a safe in my room, but didn't care if the other safe worked. The one in my room didn't work and I asked them three time to get it fixed and each time I was promised it would be fixed, but no one ever fixed it. Too make things work they charged me $8.00 for the two safes. Next, they scheduled a huge party in their little banquet room right under our rooms and they played very loud music until way past midnight and we had to get up at 5am the next morning. When I called the front desk, I was told that there was nothing they could do. Last, they deactivated our door cards the day before we left and when I went to the front desk they told me it was my fault because I put my card next to my credit cards in my wallet. Really all four card stopped working and they were with other people in my group. read more

june first 2013 i had a reservation via orbitz.com. this hotel is listed on web site as pet friendly. when arrived staff would not provide me a room or refund my money because i had a pet. after server al months of follow up with orbitz my credit card company and sleep inn my return of prepaid funds was denied. i was out $90. needless to say after much time spent over 10 hours of documentation and follow up i gave up. if you use orbitz or sleep inn i hope you are cautious particularly if you have a pet be ware. i was taken advantage of by orbitz, sleep inn and us bank visa. read more
