While we waited for our reading we posted up at the gorgeous bar and Michael took excellent care of us. He personally hand crafts several syrups which get mixed into very unique cocktails. They are served in glassware that resembles antique crystal and it's truly a hidden gem. They serve food which looked and smelled delicious but we came just for the drinks and the tarot reader! Dubbel Dutch is a good place to stay downtown, if you like a historical place that is clean and comfortable, with no frills. They have their operation down-no interactions with staff for check in, check out on site. Room 301 south is a king room with a large space that I recommend booking. The Agency is the onsite cocktail bar that is worth booking and trying-see separate review to follow. read more

We stayed at Dubbel Dutch while in town for a weekend at Summerfest. The boutique hotel is within walking distance of the festival which was very convenient and saved us Uber fees. Location, location, location! The hotel is built within a remodeled mansion and has the basic amenities you want in a hotel - AC, WiFi, modern bathrooms, plenty of outlets - while still maintaining its unique charm. I wish there were more surfaces in our hotel for storing my toiletries in the bathroom, a place to set things in the room (aside from the floor), a desk. This may be unique to our room, all the rooms at the hotel are different. Not an inconvenience, more a note to ownership for an easy usability upgrade. We had an issue with our automatic lock keypad at midnight after walking home from the festival. We texted the number and someone responded right away. There is not a front desk here so quick response to offsite staff is critical. The hotel contact was friendly and drove to us in 15 minutes to resolve the issue. Tips if you stay here - a) get pre-reservations at Agency cocktail bar set inside the hotel if you're into libations (including non alcoholic). It's a small space and super fun time, they book up quickly! b) when they offer you a dedicated parking space right outside the hotel for an additional fee, take it. We found this so convenient to have our car in the same spot for the full stay I enjoyed the stay here and would happily stay here again, particularly with any planned downtown activities. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at Dubble Dutch. Love the history of this restored 1885 building. It creaks just like it should. Has narrow stairways just like it should. Wonderful mix of modern and historic. No front desk. You receive room number and entry could via text and email. Onsite parking available for addt. price. One of the strangest experiences of my life. The owners gutted a stunning Victorian mansion and gave it the cheapest upgrade possible, painting over original woodwork and only using one paint color throughout. There was no receptionist or staff of any kind. No one answered the phone. No one responded to texts. There was no elevator and it was far from ADA compliant. My room had a weird staircase inside it that led to a pitch black loft/storage space that was gated off but clearly had a door behind the gate. The bed was facing this weird staircase, there was human hair in the toilet, and I had to medicate myself to fall asleep in there. The pricetag was exorbitant (more expensive than Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel), and at the last second I was charged $35 to park in an empty lot. Never again. read more

The Dubbel Dutch is a 17-room boutique hotel in the well-preserved and adapted historic Koeffler / Baumgarten House. I recently had the pleasure of staying in Room 301, the Superior King "Talossa Room", located on the south side of the 3rd floor. It's a large corner room with original dark wood board and batten walls, tons of natural light, a super comfy king bed, wall-mounted TV, a bathroom with walk-in shower, local art and all of the expected necessities and more. Parking is available in the back, with keyless coded doors to enter. You use the same code to access your room. The stairs to the third floor from the back are tight but well lit by natural light during the day and cool vintage looking bulbs at night. The shower was WONDERFUL! It's wasn't a top-down rain shower, but the shower head was huge, had perfect pressure and always had hot water available. Plus, they have a little heater built into the wall of the bathroom if you get chilly. We were able to text a number to get additional pillows and a blanket delivered to the room. They were left outside our door in a bag and with a text back letting us know they were delivered without bothering us. So nice! My absolutely minor complaint is that the bed is rather low to the floor, but otherwise the room was perfect. The Tavern on the first floor was sadly closed during our stay, but I'll definitely be back as I've heard their cocktail program is delightful. If you have a chance, search "Talossa" on Wikipedia. The history is quirky and not what you'd expect. read more

Perfect little patio. I'm serious, I don't know if it's just undiscovered yet, but I loved this place. We walked here after Bastille Days and it was quiet and quaint which was exactly what we needed after the crowds. The drinks were very reasonably priced for downtown Milwaukee, I'd even say a steal. It is a beautiful venue. That's what I thought right away. Start with night one when we were the only people in this large home. Great! Slept well and thought it was a beautiful venue. Nights two and three went down hill quick because as more guests came including a loud five person family staying immediately above us, we got less comfortable sleep. The family above us was the worst. Banging and stomping shikdren and a crying infant. Who is having three kids anymore? and then staying at an upscale hostel? The beeping on the key pads woke me up the last night when I heard literally every guest beep their way back into their rooms. So if you sleep soundly then you won't mind any if this. If you're like me and don't sleep through noise, you might consider somewhere else. Finally, please ban families with kids and infants from this venue. read more

We Dubbel Dare you to stay here for a few days and report this "boutique" hotel is a five or even four, three, or even two star experience. We were guests (occupants?) 10/7,8,9/22. My wife and I were looking forward to staying in a "historical" and architecturally unique double mansion/hotel, visiting from California. However, DD was terribly overpriced (over $320 with tax and parking per night) and over-hyped on their website. Our room was dusty, the employees absolutely nowhere to be found (except in the first floor tavern and they were resentful about answering any hotel-related questions), devoid of housekeeping, few amenities, tasteless furnishings --more Motel 6 than "whimsical and traditional", narrow wooden stairs we navigated with suitcases to the third floor, no drinking glasses in the room, a TV that didn't work --or we couldn't figure out--the entire three days. It seemed everything was done to cut corners and eliminate service. Management could at least have had a list of nearby restaurants since we didn't know the area. No such luck. The place was minimalist in the worst sense of the word. Bare bones more than 19th century charm and Milwaukee gemutlichkeit. As the bartender in the tavern said "the owners of the hotel believe everything should be digital and no hotel employee needs to be present" to answer a question or give us a few towels. Give me a break. DD gives the hospitality industry a bad name and could care less if guests return or recommend their property. read more

Modern rooms with a historical twist. Unique hotel experience allows keyless entry and minimal staff - we only saw one hotel staff member (in the tavern) the entire stay. It was as if you lived in the home. Very cool! Comfortable clean rooms and amenities. The restored lobby brings to life the history of this former double mansion. This first floor hosts a bar, sitting areas, game room and restaurant (looking forward to its reopening!). Terrific location near the water. Easily walk to the lake, museums and Riverwalk. I stayed at the Dubbel Dutch for a solo staycation and it was the perfect spot. The hotel's precautions during the pandemic included: my room had a sign to indicate the last time it had been occupied and cleaned, all communication with the hotel staff was done via friendly text, and each room had its own dedicated air handling system so that germs didn't spread through a central air handling system. While the new hotel still wasn't quite finished--the restaurant/bar areas weren't up and running--it was still a thoughtful and enjoyable experience. read more

We loved everything about Dubbel Dutch! The pictures don't do the hotel justice. The building itself is beautiful and we loved walking around and seeing the history. We stayed in the Talossa Room and it was perfect. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the touches of local art and the locally made soaps and lotion were great. Maybe our favorite part was having The Daily Bird coffee shop on the first floor! We stopped by for coffee and a pastry every morning and it was the perfect way to start the day. We'd highly recommend staying when you're in Milwaukee! We look forward to coming back again in the future. read more

We had a great stay at the Dubbel Dutch. I definitely think it's one of the best hotel options in Milwaukee. To start with it doesn't feel like a hotel. It certainly has its own personality that feels comfortable and relaxed. The hotel is from the late 1800's and it's design and construction has been embraced so it sets itself apart from any other option in the city. Rooms are still modern and each one is different. The location puts you within a few minutes of most of what the city has to offer. Much of it is within walking distance. From parks to concert venues and restaurants are all a short drive at worst, which makes exploring less of a chore. There's a small very capable staff that are sure to see to anything you need. Everything feels more personal with the size of the hotel being smaller. I would highly recommend the Dubbel Dutch. If you live in Milwaukee and have friends or family coming into town, it's definitely a great option for them to see the city without feeling like it's just another hotel in any other city. Even if you live in Milwaukee, it's a great place to relax without being downtown. Check it out, it's definitely a place I will visit again. read more

I had the honor of staying for 2 nights in the Superior Double Queens Room. For me a great hotel has 3 criteria for being great. 1) Big, lush, fluffy towels; 2) soft, comfy sheets and 3) a great tub and/or shower. Good shampoo and conditioner products available for use help too. Dubbel Dutch had all 3 of these! The beds were king-sized and very comfortable. The bathroom had a large bathtub and big shower head which I thoroughly in joyed! The hardwood floors and woodwork throughout the hotel have been preserved along with all the beautiful fireplaces. Beautiful oriental area rugs are used in most rooms allowing the beautiful floors to be seen and each room is different. 17 rooms! All different. Talk about quaint and different! Downtown and Lake Michigan are within walking distance. Meghan and Anne were very helpful in making sure that I was comfortable. The rooms were clean and ready for guests. They have taken all important precautions to keep their staff and their guests safe from COVID. This hotel is dog friendly, so I was able to bring my sweet baby old man beagle/basset hound Gus (I swear he doesn't howl) The hotel is new and going through some of its changes still, but it was the perfect modern ~ yet spooky~ feel we were looking for! My significant other and I enjoyed a one night staycation. The staff were friendly and attentive when needed, but otherwise it was perfect way to rest and recharge in a socially distanced manner. We enjoyed a charcuterie board and drinks from the tavern and sat outside, ordered delivery from a local nearby restaurant and in the morning had a quick treat and coffee from the cafe. Dubbel Dutch has managed to be a quiet little getaway on a sleepy tree-lined street, while also simultaneously being eight in the middle of everything that downtown Milwaukee has to offer. The customer service cannot be beat. The sheets and bedding are to die for and are like sleeping on a cloud. The lighting in the bathroom could afford some dimmer switches (so bright!), but other than that, this place is an absolute gem. My friends and I stayed at the Milwaukee suite for one night to celebrate my birthday. The hotel was very unique in the best way possible! A day prior, I received instructions and the key code to enter the place. Upon arriving, there was a contactless check in station along with masks, hand sanitizer, and cleaning items for guests. We ran into the house manager Meghan as we were trying to find our room and she was very friendly and accommodating! Our suite was the perfect size for 8 people with plenty of room to spare. The hotel had an interesting historic vibe but our room was very modern and newly renovated. The place was also the perfect location, right in the middle of the city with plenty of fun bars and restaurants around. Every corner of this beautiful place is so thoughtfully designed, including modern finishes while still staying true to the building's original history.
