    Crystal ballroom 5th floor
    Rohan D.

Classy historic hotel in good shape with old fashioned Hilton service. I like the restaurants and love the lobby. Beautiful restored ballroom. If you have business downtown or you're in town to see the art museum, the Hilton is a good choice. If you live in the area and your water heater breaks during a polar vortex, this can be a good place to stay until you can get a plumber in.

That's the toilet, behind the door

ALL AREAS ARE REVIEWED 1-5, 1 being the worst and 5 being the best. Reservations-5- Always easy, although the hotel did have my reservation under an Amex that I was not familiar with. Parking-n/a Ease of check-in-5- Very easy check in at the counter in the L Level (you enter at the LL level, take the stairs or elevator to the desk) Room-2- While the room was a good size, the thermostat didn't seem to affect the temperature and there was no desk to work at (only a small round table). The bathroom was very small and you couldn't get to the toilet without closing the bathroom door, that seemed a little ridiculous for the price and size of the room. My room was next to the elevators and they were working on them everyday, starting at 7:30 am each day. Mattress/pillows-1- Possibly the most uncomfortable bed and pillows I've encountered at a Hilton. The bed was very small, and super hard and the pillows were small squares and not the greatest. Elevator speed/availability-1-This is a really big/tall hotel with six elevators, unfortunately only two seemed to be working at any given time making your wait time pretty long. Luckily I was only on the 6th floor and the stairs were adjacent. Gym/pool-5- Great hotel gym, lots of cardio choices as well as a pulley weight system and a full complement of dumbbells and benches. Restaurant- 4- The bar grill was pretty good, what you would expect eating in a bar. They have a fine dining restaurant as well that I didn't check out. Staff-4- Most of the staff was great with the exception of one oddly rude person. All my questions were answered and when my FedX package appeared to be lost both James and Corey in security spent a lot of time reviewing the security footage of the delivery and they were to track it down. Life savers! Also the concierge is fantastic, really helpful, and the dogs are great. Price-3-Pretty good for the area, lowered my rating due to the issues in the room. Overall-2 Although there was a lot that I liked about this hotel the bottom line was that it failed to provide me a place to sleep comfortably. Between the bed and pillows being uncomfortable (and small), the constant construction noise beginning at 7:30 am, and the music from the parties and wedding downstairs filling my 6th floor room with sound and shaking it until midnight this was not a pleasant experience. Shout out- James and Corey in security are fantastic and they go above and beyond to assist.

A traditional Art Deco hotel that is perfectly located in downtown Milwaukee. It is within walking distance of many great restaurants, shopping, and the Milwaukee Public Market. A great place to come for the holidays, as it is decorated beautifully. We also enjoyed seeing the hotel's golden doodles in the lobby - very cute. The service was great at the front desk. My only complaints would be the tiny bathrooms (due to it being such an old building) and the ability to hear loud neighbors.

This is our "Deluxe King" room

The hotel staff were not friendly nor helpful. There was no welcome and when the room wasn't ready by check-in time, there wasn't even an apology. Our "Deluxe King" room was so small there was no desk, dresser, or comfortable chair. I sat on the end of the bed to put my socks on and had to move so my husband could fit between the bed and tv stand to walk past the bed. The bathroom door could not close if some sat on the toilet because your legs were in the way. The shower only opened on one end because the sink was up against the other end. The room had been recently redecorated and it was clean. However, on Friday, they let us know that there would be no maid service because they were short handed. This meant no refills on coffee pods, towels, or trash emptied. And no discount! I was highly disappointed and will not come back.

Pros: Clean Cool vintage atmosphere, architecture, and design in public areas Great location Very friendly and helpful staff Spacious closet in room Cute and friendly "concierge dogs" Comfortable beds and pillows Cons: Not sure if it's the same with all rooms, but it seemed kind of barren. There were no "surfaces." No table. No desk. No dresser. No folding luggage rack. Two chairs and a mini-fridge on the floor. It seemed strange. Breakfast buffet at the cafe was okay, but far less than what I expected for something that costs additional. Overall, though, very good experience and would definitely would stay again.

TV at an angle off to the side of the bed;)

Wow, I expected a lot more for the price! My room was pretty dirty, cobwebs all over the bathroom. BATHROOM IS TINY! The toilet is a decent size however. You can sit and relax on it without strangling your manbits. Standing room only in the double room. All the king rooms were taken. I stayed during a busy week for an event, so didn't expect a view, although I did make the request. Customer service at the counter was quick and pleasant. Watch out, when you arrive, the check-in lobby is one floor up and your elevator is to the left. Strange that the check-in wasn't on the first floor at the door. There were 2 small beds in my room, a desk, lounge chair, and fridge. I was happy for the fridge! Always handy at this price. Rooms have strange layout & dimensions. The TV was situated off to the side of the bed. So don't watch tv long, you'll king your neck! I've stayed here a few different times and had the same strange room both times. A note on WIFI: most hotels offer speedy WiFi. This one doesn't! The Speedtest showed only 1 Mbps downstream speed. This was after 3 tests. Each one was the same. Luckily I have Verizon 5g UW and the cell service was excellent. Parking is expensive. Visitors beware: downtown is a trap. They have you where they want you! All good. It's Miller Time anyways! Anyways, come for the cheese n beers, then get outside and have some fun. Tons of things to see around town.

Walking distance to third ward which is where restaurants and shops are. About 15 minute walk. The downtown area unfortunately is dead. Not much other than a foot locker store a subway restaurant and a potbelly sandwich shop The hotel has a beer restaurant with bar food and a more formal type restaurant. If you like beer it's great. Lots of options and you can share a plate of cheese curds that this area is known for The staff in the hotel is great. Very helpful and the bed and pillows are comfy This must have been a gorgeous hotel back in the day but right now I'd say nice and in need of a facelift. I stay here every year for work and it always meets my needs

This hotel was excellent. I arrived at 9:00 a.m. on a Wednesday for the conference I was attending, and not only did they have a room ready for me, they also had an upgrade ready (I have Gold status since I have their paid credit card). I actually knew I was getting upgraded a few days beforehand because I got an email from Hilton, which was exciting. I had booked a standard king room and they put me in a King Superior room, which ended up being quite huge - It's almost like a studio suite, you have the bed area plus a couch, a desk, another chair, and the bathroom. As a Hilton Gold member, you also get free breakfast and access to the lounge with snacks but I was only in town for the one night and the conference provided breakfast today, so I ended up not using it. The bed was also very comfortable. My only complaint is that I did not get any body wash in my room so I had to improvise and use the shampoo... Not sure if it was overlooked or they just don't supply any. Otherwise I have zero complaints about this hotel and would definitely stay here again, it seemed a little older but it was also very beautiful.

Where are my friends Sadie and Millie ?

Where are Sadie and Millie? The ONLY reason this hotel was even a possibility for me was because of Sadie and Millie! They are no longer here , so what you are left with is a dated, boring and GLOOMY hotel. I will not be back here until the dogs are back! Save your money and go elsewhere. This place has nothing to offer! The TV in my room didn't even work. And they are advertising the dogs on their website and at the hotel! Lies lies lies!!! Do better

Beautiful historic hotel in downtown Milwaukee. Registration is on the 2nd floor and they have a nice bar and seating area in addition to a sports bar and chophouse restaurant attached. There's not a lot else in this downtown area but it's a lovely place to stay.

From the moment I walked in, the lobby was overwhelmed with a heavy, Axe body spray-like scent--so strong it felt like walking through a middle school locker room. I assumed it was temporary and that my room would be a relief, but unfortunately, it was worse. The room smelled musty, like a house that hasn't been aired out in years. To make matters worse, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, which is unacceptable for a hotel at this level. Beyond that, the overall cleanliness of the hotel was lacking. For a boutique property, I expected a much higher standard, but the space felt worn and not well-maintained. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the towels were rough--far from the soft, high-end feel you'd expect. The most concerning part of my stay, though, was waking up at 1:45 AM struggling to breathe. It genuinely felt like a reaction to something in the room--possibly mold or poor air quality. I initially thought I was getting sick, but after spending a few hours away the next day, I felt completely normal again, which makes it hard to ignore the room as the cause. If you have any respiratory sensitivities, be cautious. I contacted the front desk to explain the situation and was told checking out early without being charged for another night wouldn't be an issue. I even offered to return around noon so they could turn the room, but was told not to worry since they weren't sold out. When I returned later that day, there was no note, and the staff refused to honor what I had been told, citing the late checkout time. While I understand policies, the inconsistency and lack of follow-through were frustrating. I also dined at the hotel restaurant, which didn't help the experience. The food was overpriced for the quality--my salad was warm, fries were room temperature, and clearly sat out too long. Dessert was equally disappointing; the lemon tart was buried under an excessive amount of powdered sugar, making it unpleasant to eat. It's honestly a sad day when I transferred to a basic airport hotel--Hyatt Place Milwaukee Airport--and had a significantly better experience. The bed was more comfortable, the towels were actually soft, and even the shampoo and conditioner were noticeably better quality. On top of that, the Hyatt was spotless, which only made the lack of cleanliness at Iron Horse stand out even more. Overall, this stay fell far below expectations. Between the condition of the room, air quality concerns, cleanliness issues, and poor service recovery, I won't be returning.

I thought our room size was decent - a suite with a separate bedroom and sitting area. However, it was very pricey and I think for the price, we shouldn't have had hair in the shower, a discarded tissue by the nightstand and .. something gooey on the phone. I know it's hard to find every nook and crannie of these rooms, but it is very expensive and compared to other hotels of this caliber/price, this was unusual. Hopefully an anomoly. I also thought we booked 2 queen beds but these beds were certainly only doubles - not so large when you've got 4 people staying in a room. Service was good when we were there, though I tried to contact them my email ahead of my visit (no reply) and also by phone where I wasn't greeted super warmly. However, upon arrival, we were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine to check in and the staff at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. The pool is nice but not that large and depending on how many people are there, it can be tight. It's also near the upstairs restaurant, so you might get to wait at the elevator with half of the people in dressy attire and half in bathing suits. The artwork in the conference/event area is lovely and throughout the old part of the hotel is really interesting. I love quirky and this had a mix of historic and quirky which was nice. On a recent trip to Milwaukee, however, our experience with the Kimpton there was less than ideal. When we arrived on a Saturday to check in, they couldn't find our reservation and despite showing them receipts and proof that I had made one, it instantly set off bad vibes from the staff. Once they "found" our reservation, we were offered two complementary beverage coupons for the rooftop bar as an apology which we appreciated. Unfortunately, when we got to our room, we were put into a room with two queen beds - it was my husband and I traveling together, and when I called down to the front desk to request a king bed room, I was very briefly and rudely told that there were none available. A king bed was the type of room that I had booked and paid for, however. Trying to not let this phase me and ruin our short weekend trip, I decided to let it go and leave it be. The room itself was clean and spacious with good water, pressure and plenty of hot water. Our television didn't work, and when my husband called down to the front desk, he was very rudely told that it was affecting all of the televisions in the hotel. No solution or reimbursement was offered. We did partake in their complementary happy hour in the lobby from 5 to 6 PM and enjoyed a seasonal whiskey cocktail. And the rooftop bar had a nice layout with heated and covered patio space with fire pits. Normally, I rant and rave about how much I love Kimpton hotels but this one just missed the mark for me.

The bathroom was missing some basic amenities such as a soap dish, so I had to leave the bar soap on the counter. The shower's strong water pressure was really nice compared to the flow-restricted showers commonly found in California hotels. The staff experience was mixed. The night reception gentleman (working Monday through Thursday) provided outstanding customer service for his consistently warm and energetic greetings every time I passed. The night valet Martin also deserves special recognition for his outstanding service, sprinting to retrieve my car and showing remarkable attention to detail by noticing my night work schedule and trying to proactively have my car ready. However, the daytime valet service was disappointing. Two valets would unnecessarily retrieve my car together (Maybe one was shadowing the other). During these retrievals, one valet would sit on my belongings in the passenger seat (this happened multiple days). I later discovered after leaving Milwaukee that she damaged my glasses. Given the short distance to the garage, this practice seems unnecessary and showed a lack of respect for guest property. If they noticed stuff on the seat, they could've just walked back. For future improvement, I would suggest better attention to guests' personal belongings and a review of valet procedures.
