My husband and I drove through the neighborhood and we started to get a bit skeptical. The hotel is situated in a neighborhood - there's a high school across the street. There isn't a lot to do in the immediate area (though there is a very cute beachfront park within walking distance - we spent a few hours down there). It seemed like a very strange for a hotel location, but we continued on. Each room is named after a region known for it's wine - we were in the Stellenbosch room - a leopard print chair, some giraffes and travel books for Africa embellished the room. Themes are fun. The shower was amazing! Multiple shower heads - I couldn't help but sing "Africa" by Toto. The bed was super cozy. We ended up locking ourselves out of our room very early in our stay. At a normal hotel, that's an easy fix, just head down to the front desk. At the Sheridan Hotel, the office hours are sporadic. We didn't know if we were going to be able to get back in. Luckily, we heard papers rustling inside the locked office and knocked. The owner was insider and she was incredibly nice and helped us out. Phew! The hours for the restaurant downstairs were strange too - closed on Mondays. Open only for brunch on Tuesday and Wednesday, then open full service the rest of the week. We had lunch there on Tuesday and it was delicious (Applewood Salad for me and my husband had the Chicken Panini - we both cleaned ours plates). So, in closing - the location is a bit strange and you need to be pretty self sufficient since the hours are sporadic, but the rooms are beautiful and comfy, the restaurant was tasty and the customer service was wonderful. I would recommend this hotel for a romantic weekend away where you don't plan on leaving the room much.

It is a…read moreconvenient location really close to downtown, the Rave, American Family Field, Potawatomi Casino, Marquette University, etc. I like the Ambassador Hotel because it's a ritzy, charming, Art Deco, historical hotel built in the 1920s that feels like it's frozen in time, like we are walking straight into the Great Gatsby/Prohibition area. It has remnants of the past like an old historical antique letter box in the front lobby and an old fashion elevator. If it doesn't scare you, this hotel definitely has a very haunted past! The best feature of the Ambassador Hotel is it's free complimentary shuttle service which will take you anywhere in the downtown Milwaukee area that's in close enough radius of hotel 7:30am - midnight daily so you can leave your car parked in the garage or don't have to drive which is very convenient! Their free shuttle service will make your stay more easy and its really great for going to local attractions or even attending a concert right down the street at the Rave when you don't feel like driving! They also have a bar/dining located in the hotel called Gin Rickey's which offers American food/cocktails. They have a little breakfast cafe that serves coffee and pastries. The hotels rooms are different based on the room you book but most are honestly outdated while some rooms are very updated/modern. I have stayed in different rooms but all of them have been very comfortable! I really like the King bed deluxe room or King bed suite which are more modern/updated! I suggest paying for parking in their parking garage which I believe is now $30 because street parking is very limited or the streets near the hotel are sketchy. This hotel has no elevator and you will have to climb up two or three flights of stairs to get to your room so if you're elderly, I do not recommend it. The thermostat doesn't work very well and I was boiling in my room and the pillows are very flat and old and I started to have neck pain. I didn't enjoy my stay and as I stated, I left early, there was nobody at the hotel to talk to about these issues. I still have the email that I sent you asking for early checkout and getting a refund so you can't say you never got a message because I also talked to somebody via email by the name of Nicole. The room was pretty clean, but the downside is we stayed on the third floor and you elevator goes up to the second floor only this is where you check in then you have to walk upstairs to get to the third floor. I'm getting a little older to be dragging my luggage upstairs. Also, the other downsize is the parking is offsite a couple blocks away in a public parking garage so you have to walk back-and-forth which ain't the end of the world but if it was winter time it wouldn't be good. it does cost I think around 3.50 a day to park in the garage which ain't that bad. They do give you two $10 vouchers for breakfast at a restaurant which is a couple stores down which was nice since the restaurant in the hotel was closed. I tried to get two more vouchers for the second day we were there, but the lady behind the desk was kind of rude and said she would go broke if she handed out that many vouchers. if we stayed in the area again, I think we would try a different hotel just because of the parking situation and going up the stairs. I'm glad we stayed there once the hotel is in an old building which is pretty cool.!
