    Stopped up shower
    Jon L.

Finally Jon will have a good hotel experience right? Right? Wrong! Again the lack of daily maid service even when requested then my shower drain was stopped up leaving me to shower in like a foot of gross water and that also wasn't fixed when I told them about it. Either I have the worst luck of all time (possible) or hotels are in a crisis bruv.

Order: 1 hotel room w/ King size bed Pros: The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The building seems slightly dated, but I had no issue with staying here at all. In fact, I really enjoyed the large space and the accommodations. I also appreciate the check in folk letting me know not to move or touch the snacks or beverages in the room unless I wanted to be charged lol. Thanks for that heads up. Cons: n/a

    Blood stain
    Sarah W.

The only thing I need to say that should tell you all you need to know is there was a blood stain on the sheet. What kind of blood, I'm not sure. But it doesn't matter because it's just the fact that it was there. There was also an alarm set for 6:00am that went off every 30 minutes. Not sure who set that, but couldn't figure out how to turn it off. On the plus side, we got lots of towels and the pizzas are big. There were 4 mirrors in our room which was nice for a bunch of girls getting ready. That's about it. I wouldn't stay here again. Only for the fact that it was across from The Rave.

We are enjoying our stay and we appreciate the discount rate offered to us because we are in town for a course at nearby Marquette University, so only $109 a night for a king. It's a quick 7 block walk to campus, seems like a safe enough area to walk in the morning and early evening. The restaurant appears closed still due to the pandemic, but we were able to walk back to campus for food. Bed is super soft. Room is very big with generous lighting. Bathroom is clean and well-stocked. There is a hair dryer, but no fridge. The lobby smells a little musty, but upstairs in the room everything smells fresh. The front desk staffer is really pleasant, helpful, and hard working!! He was running around helping folks, even loaning our phone chargers, helping with wifi connections, and arranging shuttles. This guy is super efficient and so positive! Check out these vintage elevators.

From Andy greeting us at the front desk with not just a great positive attitude but with hotel history and recommendations to local eateries. We chose the Fifty for dinner. Andy gave us a coupon for a dessert or cocktail. The Cherries Jubilee was wonderful and was the best finish to a perfect steak. The Ambassador provided complimentary transportation. Our driver Taurus was friendly and a super conversationist. The hotel rate was more then reasonable and the $20 parking fee is reasonable. When we were shuttled everywhere for the price of a van tip. Safe area the hotel bar and cafe outstanding. The hotel is 95 years old. A wonderful place to stay.

My husband and I had a fantastic time for our stay in Milwaukee. The Ambassador Hotel was amazing with wonderful staff. We loved the Art Deco and the attention to detail. Conveniently located minutes away from downtown. This is our new spot when we visit this great city again.

Creepy sign for a creepy hotel.

I booked this hotel because I was going to a concert at the Rave. I didn't want to have to deal with Uber or parking so I booked across the road. After I booked my room I found out the Dahmer story. It was a bit creepy knowing that but it makes sense. The hotel looks and feels creepy AF. Pros 1. Location. Didn't have to stand and wait for my Uber driver to find me. When I have gone here in the past I've had to wait forever for my driver. 2. Check out was easy. Cons 1. Location The hotel is located in a shady part of town. Would not stay here unless I was going to a concert at the Rave. 2. Service was bad when checking in. Only one person at the desk and she was helping someone and stepped away from desk. I stood waiting for a while holding all my bags. 3. After the concert there was a long line to catch an elevator. No problem, I'll take the stairs. I wasn't sure where the stairs were so I walked to the desk. 3 people behind the desk engaged in conversation. They saw me come up and they did not stop their conversation until I spoke. Hello! Stop your personal convo while a customer/guest approaches the desk. 4. I was given a ticket for the garage to exit. The $20 for parking would be charged to my room. When inserting the ticket to exit it kept telling me there was no data entry. I was holding up the line until I pressed the intercom button and gave her my room #. Then the gate raised. Just a very weird vibe here. I paid way too much for this place cause of thanksgiving weekend. I don't think I'd stay here again. Writing this review is also creepy and strange lol.

Don't get me wrong, the hotel in itself is really unique. A Gem of Art Decor (think Great Gatsby or Bioshock). From the outside it's an ugly Lego. Before booking, understand that apparently no rooms have a refrigerator or microwave. Also, I looked for a community micro to heat up some pizza late night. Nada. Beware of the surrounding area. Many derelicts roam the area when the sun goes down because the freaks come out at night. To this point I see many photos of broken windows associated with this business. I have a nice car and did not have this experience, although the staff allowed me to keep my car in the 90 minute spots. They are not under surveillance btw. I accidentally left my car unlocked for many hours and still have my stuff. Hey, Dave is one of the shuttle drivers and is knowledgeable of everything local, friendly, and helpful. The meat. I mean Metalfest. The venue is kitty-corner from the hotel so you can wobble and bob to and fro then/sorry for ruining this, band members, a wicked after party.

These elevators are JUST like the ones seen on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride @ Disney. Old, creepy, & you gotta pull the doors open

From the moment I walked in, the lobby was overwhelmed with a heavy, Axe body spray-like scent--so strong it felt like walking through a middle school locker room. I assumed it was temporary and that my room would be a relief, but unfortunately, it was worse. The room smelled musty, like a house that hasn't been aired out in years. To make matters worse, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, which is unacceptable for a hotel at this level. Beyond that, the overall cleanliness of the hotel was lacking. For a boutique property, I expected a much higher standard, but the space felt worn and not well-maintained. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the towels were rough--far from the soft, high-end feel you'd expect. The most concerning part of my stay, though, was waking up at 1:45 AM struggling to breathe. It genuinely felt like a reaction to something in the room--possibly mold or poor air quality. I initially thought I was getting sick, but after spending a few hours away the next day, I felt completely normal again, which makes it hard to ignore the room as the cause. If you have any respiratory sensitivities, be cautious. I contacted the front desk to explain the situation and was told checking out early without being charged for another night wouldn't be an issue. I even offered to return around noon so they could turn the room, but was told not to worry since they weren't sold out. When I returned later that day, there was no note, and the staff refused to honor what I had been told, citing the late checkout time. While I understand policies, the inconsistency and lack of follow-through were frustrating. I also dined at the hotel restaurant, which didn't help the experience. The food was overpriced for the quality--my salad was warm, fries were room temperature, and clearly sat out too long. Dessert was equally disappointing; the lemon tart was buried under an excessive amount of powdered sugar, making it unpleasant to eat. It's honestly a sad day when I transferred to a basic airport hotel--Hyatt Place Milwaukee Airport--and had a significantly better experience. The bed was more comfortable, the towels were actually soft, and even the shampoo and conditioner were noticeably better quality. On top of that, the Hyatt was spotless, which only made the lack of cleanliness at Iron Horse stand out even more. Overall, this stay fell far below expectations. Between the condition of the room, air quality concerns, cleanliness issues, and poor service recovery, I won't be returning.

I thought our room size was decent - a suite with a separate bedroom and sitting area. However, it was very pricey and I think for the price, we shouldn't have had hair in the shower, a discarded tissue by the nightstand and .. something gooey on the phone. I know it's hard to find every nook and crannie of these rooms, but it is very expensive and compared to other hotels of this caliber/price, this was unusual. Hopefully an anomoly. I also thought we booked 2 queen beds but these beds were certainly only doubles - not so large when you've got 4 people staying in a room. Service was good when we were there, though I tried to contact them my email ahead of my visit (no reply) and also by phone where I wasn't greeted super warmly. However, upon arrival, we were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine to check in and the staff at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. The pool is nice but not that large and depending on how many people are there, it can be tight. It's also near the upstairs restaurant, so you might get to wait at the elevator with half of the people in dressy attire and half in bathing suits. The artwork in the conference/event area is lovely and throughout the old part of the hotel is really interesting. I love quirky and this had a mix of historic and quirky which was nice. Parking was attached (just a different elevator if you're staying in the historic part of the hotel).

On a recent trip to Milwaukee, however, our experience with the Kimpton there was less than ideal. When we arrived on a Saturday to check in, they couldn't find our reservation and despite showing them receipts and proof that I had made one, it instantly set off bad vibes from the staff. Once they "found" our reservation, we were offered two complementary beverage coupons for the rooftop bar as an apology which we appreciated. Unfortunately, when we got to our room, we were put into a room with two queen beds - it was my husband and I traveling together, and when I called down to the front desk to request a king bed room, I was very briefly and rudely told that there were none available. A king bed was the type of room that I had booked and paid for, however. Trying to not let this phase me and ruin our short weekend trip, I decided to let it go and leave it be. The room itself was clean and spacious with good water, pressure and plenty of hot water. Our television didn't work, and when my husband called down to the front desk, he was very rudely told that it was affecting all of the televisions in the hotel. No solution or reimbursement was offered. We did partake in their complementary happy hour in the lobby from 5 to 6 PM and enjoyed a seasonal whiskey cocktail. And the rooftop bar had a nice layout with heated and covered patio space with fire pits. Normally, I rant and rave about how much I love Kimpton hotels but this one just missed the mark for me.

As a result, I had to sleep on the couch on the opposite side of the room and my work schedule made it inconvenient to request a new one. The bathroom was missing some basic amenities such as a soap dish, so I had to leave the bar soap on the counter. The shower's strong water pressure was really nice compared to the flow-restricted showers commonly found in California hotels. The staff experience was mixed. The night reception gentleman (working Monday through Thursday) provided outstanding customer service for his consistently warm and energetic greetings every time I passed. The night valet Martin also deserves special recognition for his outstanding service, sprinting to retrieve my car and showing remarkable attention to detail by noticing my night work schedule and trying to proactively have my car ready. However, the daytime valet service was disappointing. Two valets would unnecessarily retrieve my car together (Maybe one was shadowing the other). During these retrievals, one valet would sit on my belongings in the passenger seat (this happened multiple days). I later discovered after leaving Milwaukee that she damaged my glasses. Given the short distance to the garage, this practice seems unnecessary and showed a lack of respect for guest property. If they noticed stuff on the seat, they could've just walked back. For future improvement, I would suggest better attention to guests' personal belongings and a review of valet procedures.
