First off, ignore the reviews and the one stars. If you read it: these people did not even give this place a chance. The neighborhood is not dangerous. The neighborhood has old Milwaukee feel, like true residential feel. This place was restored roughly 25 years ago. It was originally built in 1886 and condemned to be torn down before they saved it. It took 7 years to really revive it. The grounds, the building, the details, the architecture, and sheer care that went into this place is very evident. It is so beautiful and the hospitality is even beyond. Truly a wonderful experience. I don't stay at bed and breakfast much because I usually opt for the hotels and it's amenities but I must this place definitely has changed my mind---although it is unique. I stayed in Sophie's room and it was very well maintained. The water pressure is actually very good and you can definitely come and go as you please. The breakfasts are delicious. They will use vegetables from the yard for omelets or Andrew's famous French toast w/ "brewed" vanilla. They are wonderful company and extremely cordial and down to earth folks. If I ever come back to Milwaukee---because this was a random spur-of-the-moment trip--I would stay here again. Definitely recommending it to others! read more

My girlfriend and I have stayed at Manderley multiple times over the past few years and we love it. The hosts are such welcoming, kind people. The house is beautiful and comfortable. We miss Rufus, their SharPei, who they had taught to hop up and open a curtain from the kitchen as an adorable greeting. RIP Rufus. The cost is low enough that it's totally worth it to just stay for an evening during a trip up to a concert or similar. We always enjoy the breakfasts and visiting the chickens out back. And how can you go wrong with fresh baked cookies left out for you??? I can't think of a thing to complain about. There is nothing wrong with the neighborhood, despite the ludicrous comments a couple others have made here... It's a city and sometimes you encounter poor people! It's true there isn't a ton of stuff to do in the immediate vicinity, but I've walked to the general downtown area many times from here and it's been just fine. Nobody bothered us at all and I saw no illegal activity whatsoever, just people from the neighborhood living their lives. If you're that afraid of non-whites mowing their lawn or talking to friends outside, then get an uber/lyft or maybe reassess your prejudices. read more

So darling. The owners are extremely welcoming and they make a kick butt breakfast as well! It's 4 rooms for guests and lots of space to relax and visit. Backyard is really spacious as well! I felt safe in the neighborhood and Lyft to entertainment downtown areas was less than $10. read more

If you want to take a chance on finding your car on milk crates then this is the place to stay! ( https://www.bestplaces.net/crime/zip-code/wisconsin/milwaukee/53208) While parked in front of the B&B within 10 minutes we witnessed a prostitute exchanging money with a man in the car and then providing services and a drug deal across the street. In all honesty I can't rate the inside of the B&B because I never got out of the car. When we called the owner he was very rude and upset that I insulted his neighborhood. He even went as far as allegations of racism on my part, not knowing my race or ethnicity! When I told him look outside your window and you will see a prostitute he said that this is an anomaly! I am not an overreacting sheltered individual, I grew up in Chicago and consider myself very street smart, so I can only imagine how others would feel. read more

Me and my boyfriend were looking at weekend getaway and wanted to try out b&b, My stay turned out amazing, the whole house was beautifully decorated, the bed was comfortable the breakfast was great and most of all, the owners were amazing to us, they were so kind and friendly and we get to talk to Marie about the history of the house over the breakfast and sharing conversation about everything else, another awesome part's they have private parking place right by the house. It was peaceful inside the house and we couldn't hear what was going on outside even though the houses are so close to each other. I'd highly recommend staying at this place and I sure hope in the future I'll meet the same kind, generous hosts like them. I cannot begin to tell you enough about this place!! Owners are on premises at all times, they are absolutely wonderful kind and friendly! They know the city very well and are happy to give you pointers and advice on where to go and what to do! They are the most kind and accommodating couple Did I mention that you get a killer breakfast and delicious strong coffee with you or stay?? Honestly speaking I cannot say what this B&B is like on the inside. We were so terrified by the neighborhood that we didn't feel safe getting out of the car. If you're looking for a girlfriend for the night (or a couple hours) or looking to get some weed/drugs go park in front of Manderly. The location of a bed and breakfast intended for a peaceful, restful and quiet getaway is of course very important. In this regard Manderley is zero star and should be avoided. The keeper went as far as telling us that what we saw rarely happens there and that we wouldn't be able to get a room anywhere else. We had an amazing weekend at this bed-and-breakfast. My husband and I go to a different bed-and-breakfast every year for our anniversary this was number 17. Andrew and his wife were pleasant from start to finish. The breakfast was good the room was cozy and quiet and comfortable. We especially liked the hot tub and fireplace in our room. We were a little nervous that the room we were staying in would not lock during the day while we were out. But we were assured that this was their home and had not had any experience with anything bad happening in the past. The home itself has an a tremendous story of history preservation in the human spirit pushing against the odds to preserve a slice of history in this very historical city. Andrew and his wife gave us great advice as to where to eat where to go and other fun things we might enjoy. They were great hosts and we plan to be back again. read more

We had a great stay here in November! The couple that runs the B&B is very helpful and has put a ton of work into the details of the house. Everything they cooked was delicious and they were very accommodating to our vegetarian needs. The room was great and actually much bigger than I expected from the site. The jacuzzi tub was nice and they even had a crackle log for us to set on the fire as it was freezing that night. Super cozy stay and would definitely return. read more

Andy and Marie were super sweet and gracious hosts during our stay last weekend. We stayed in Sophie's Room and it was spacious, cozy, and bright. The electric fire is a nice addition to the room and made our stay very cozy. The breakfast they made us was delicious and they were great company over our meal. They had a good DVD collection and a few games to play. Our only complaint was that the location isn't great -- its about two miles west of downtown Milwaukee, but we Uber'd and taxi'd whenever we wanted to go anywhere (it was only like $5-6 a ride) so it all worked out! We had a very nice stay. The room was spacious and adorable. The food was phenomenal. Truly. It even was catered to our tastes, which was not expected! The owners were delightful and helpful. They had a ton of extras in a little closer in case you forgot something, which was a nice perk! The only downfalls were the floor was slightly dirty, and the neighborhood is a little sketchy. The hosts were welcoming and accommodating. Marie baked chocolate oatmeal cookies for our arrival. Both Marie and Andy were available for conversation about Milwaukee and life. They renovated a Victorian mansion to a beautiful state. The breakfast included oatmeal pancakes, homemade banana bread and fried eggs from their chickens in the backyard. A stay at Manderley was the perfect way to end a short mother-daughter trip. Yes, the B&B is not located in the safest neighborhood of Milwaukee, but all of my concerns melted away as soon as I pulled into the property. Both my elderly mother and I felt perfectly safe on the premises and driving through town to and from the house. The house itself, as well as the rest of the property, is well-maintained and clean. Marie, the owner, is so welcoming and friendly (not to mention a stellar cook) that you will feel more like you are staying with a friend than at a B&B. We stayed in Bessie's Room, which was much larger and more comfortable than it looked online, and was a good deal for the price. The room was much quieter than I would have expected for such an urban area. The home was lovingly restored by Andy (Marie's husband and the co-owner of the B&B) over the course of a number of years to give the property a classic Victorian look and feel. Even though the home is historic, the amenities (in-room air conditioning and freshly-baked cookies!) and service provided are modern and top-notch. Marie gave us a tour of the home when we first arrived to help us get our bearings and settle in, and was able to provide us with many good recommendations for sights to see and things to do. The breakfast was lovely; everything was home-made and delicious. There happened to be other guests dining at the same time we were, and we had a wonderful conversation with them and Marie. All in all, we had a great experience and will certainly be back if our travels take us to beautiful Milwaukee again! read more

This place was a decent place to stay, the owners are friendly and polite. The neighborhood was a little sketchy but we didn't have a problem. There was room for parking that wasn't on the street, our vehicle was not messed with. The price was comparable to hotels in the area. You can't lock your room, but the house entry is locked. The bed was pretty hard and the plumbing was a bit loud but it is a well restored victorian home that I'm glad I got to see and stay in. read more

My husband and I stayed at Manderlay over Memorial Day weekend for our 2nd wedding anniversary. The couple was extremely friendly and accommodating. The home was absolutely beautiful and cozy. The location is very convenient located just outside of downtown...easy access to Miller Field as well. The food was out of this world...especially the homemade cookies left outside our room. I've been to several bed and breakfasts, but this is by far my favorite. Good for tourists, or Milwaukee locals who want to get away from while still staying in their own town. It feels removed from time. I'm not sure where to start! We stayed in Bessies room. The Jacuzzi was amazing and the fireplace was so romantic. The shower had two shower heads and was nice and warm! They have a guest closet in the hall with movies, drinks, and toiletries in case you forget anything. The couple who runs the place is so nice. Andrew has done a lot of the woodwork and stain glass in the place. The couple took 10 years to restore the house--theyre both historians in their own right and have done a great job of keeping Milwaukee's history alive. Marie is an amazing cook and the eggs she made for breakfast came from the chicken coop in the back! Both of the two are very nice and good at telling stories. If you're from out of town, they'll recommend restaurants or things to do, if you're from town, this place gives you a good chance to see the history of Milwaukee from a tourists eyes, in a charming little bed and breakfast removed from time. This stay was very special to me and my fiance and I hope to stay again! read more

We felt very welcomed staying here. We were greeted warmly at the door and provided with a tour of the house. We appreciated Millie's room and its atmosphere and the history it captured. We enjoyed listening to the record player, having drinks by the fire outside until midnight with the other guests, and a hot relaxing bath to end the night. The neighborhood is a little leery, however once we entered the B&B we felt at home. Look past the neighborhood and you'll be transported into Milwaukee's deep history. Finally, they were extremely accommodating to meet the needs of my vegan diet. The food was amazing. read more

This VICTORIAN bldg with gorgeous antiques is a beautiful historical bldg. The antique furniture is just as beautiful as the pictures on their website!! A sweet, generous, historic little home. The B&B owners live on site, and they've obviously poured themselves into turning it into something like a tiny museum. The interior is an incredible recreation of a late-19th century mansion: decorated walls, little sculptures, amazing woodwork, carvings everywhere. You'll find gorgeous glass, because Andy is a glassblower. Andy knows *everything* about the history of that period-- and the history of the city. I spent more than an hour asking him questions and learning about exactly why the canopy over the bed looked the way it did. And when different houses in Milwaukee were built. And why. Just amazing. If you don't want to talk, though, it's a quiet and cozy place. Plenty of luxury sodas and nice candies. Breakfast is made the way you want it -- deliciously (and vegetarian, for me. But they have their own chickens if you want fresh eggs.) We even had cookies left out for us. All in all, a gorgeous place and so much better than a hotel. Highly recommended. PS: Ask to hear the real, pre-electric phonograph that they restored themselves. One hundred years old, worked by a hand crank, and it still plays records! read more

Arrived at the Manderly for my 61st Birthday & started to cry & shake. Neighborhood is full of boarded up buildings & some rentals. could not stay here & feel comfortable. My husband was shocked because reviews on line looked good. We knocked at door and no one was available. He called & told her we could not stay & she refused to listen. she went ahead & charged our credit card which we will be protesting. We are business people and if someone asks for their money back, we give it to them. We did not use her services & Had to find another place to stay which was wonderful!!!! Any good business person would refund your money. Beware. check neighborhoods out carefully when in a City situation that you are unfamiliar with. People from the city told us later that this neighborhood is called "Grocery Cart Row".. read more

Everything was magnificent: beautifully and painstakingly restored house, luxuriously comfortable rooms, delicious gourmet breakfasts (including fresh eggs from their own backyard chickens!), fresh homemade cookies waiting for you nightly, and the personally delightful owners Marie & Andy. They are the nicest people ever, outstanding hosts, and possess a wealth of historical and Milwaukee knowledge / great tips on cool things to see and do. I can't say enough good things about this B&B - it's a worth a trip to Milwaukee just to stay here! It's a little outside downtown, but even with cab fare the rates are a steal. We splurged on the fanciest room and still paid less than downtown hotel rates, PLUS breakfast for two included. There is just no reason to stay at a hotel when this place is available. We just got home and are already talking about when we can go next! read more
