Locanda Ischia is Buonissimo! Best delicious! I can't believe I Jane heard about this place singer but someone recommended it recently and I am so happy! It feels like you're walking into a local Italian bistro from the setting, the music, and the Italian waiters. And they are super nice and helpful. And the scent is amazing food as soon as you enter makes your mouth water. For starters, the Caesar salad, so tangy and yummy, plus the meatballs. For main course the homemade gnocchi, spaghetti vangole, and a pizza. A little eclectic, yes, but amazing nonetheless. I had something of the menu: a shrimp/prawn pasta which I really enjoyed. Delicious bite after bite. And for dessert was the chocolate lava cake with fresh whipped cream and blackberry. The waiter was so nice, the water was never lower than half, filled by whoever was closest to us. The music was charming. Perhaps the one kick was out Ed slightly loud. I went to Locanda Ischia with a couple of family members - it was a birthday celebration and my research told me the venue was great for birthdays! The pictures I saw were beautiful and the ambience looking cozy and inviting. Despite an Open Table reservation, they were 10-15 minutes seating us. The red wine and Espresso martini were excellent. They offered us arancini balls since we were seated much after the reservation time and assured us that the balls were vegetarian. However, they turned out to have sausage in it, much to my chagrin. The beet salad was excellent, and the pasta( was good. They did offer a nice birthday dessert which they served with fanfare. I would rate this restaurant highly for ambience and presentation, and drinks. The service is good but they can do a better job with vegetarian options, and managing reservations. read more

Such a cute aesthetic vibe. Waiters were very attentive and greeted you in Italian. Would recommend the focaccia bread basket and rigatoni vodka pasta. So delicious! Bread: crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The dressing was fresh and light. Definitely doesn't fill you up before the entree but a perfect appetizer. Pasta: Flavorful and filling. The sauce was creamy and vibrant. I should've taken the waiter's recommendation of adding Parmesan on top. But still so good! I would definitely come back here. I have been having trouble finding good Italian food near me in San Jose, but I think I found it here. We ordered: - Bruschetta - portions were larger than I expected and tomatoes were so fresh - Wrong Scarpariello - I ordered this pasta and the sauce was so good, the plate was clean when I finished. They do al dente noodles so well. - Spaghetti Vongole - My fiancé ordered this and it was kinda bland and lacked seasoning, had to add a lot of salt. - Tiramisu - a very chocolate forward tiramisu, still very good I have no idea why, but this restaurant is so loud. When I first walked in, the place was only like 2/3 full, but it sounded like I was at a concert. We had to yell to talk to each other LOL. Superb and authentic Italian cuisine in San Jose's Willow Glen neighborhood. I stopped by for lunch with my old undergrad advisor who was in the South Bay visiting his son - he was responsible for inspiring me to take my studies seriously, which led to me coming to America on an academic scholarship in the 1990s. We had a Sunday noon reservation and the place was almost empty when we strolled in after parking a couple of blocks away. We were greeted warmly and seated by the friendly host Antonio, who started us off with cappuccinos while we looked over our menus. My professor is vegetarian, so we ordered Brussels Sprouts and the Bruschetta Locanda to munch on, then shared a Wrong Scarpariello - al dente Scialatielli pasta with cherry tomatoes and Calabrian chili oil, topped with creamy burrata and Parmesan - never has something named Wrong tasted so Right! We had saved room for dessert, and ordered the Antonio-recommended Ricotta Peara, intending to share it. We were pleasantly surprised when Antonio also produced, with a flair, an order of the Panna Cotta for us to share. Both desserts were divine! As was the thoughtfulness, as the panna cotta was on the house!! Antonio had overheard that we were meeting after 30+ years!!! Thank you Antonio and Locanda Ischia, for making my lunch with the professor who kickstarted my career a memorable experience. I will most certainly be back! read more

This is a very cute spot! I stopped by for dinner with a friend, and we both really enjoyed it. The ambiance here is unmatched. It feels like you are in Italy, with all of the lemons and mosaics lining the walls. The staff was very friendly, and we were seated very quickly. We started with the house focaccia, which was salty and came with olive oil that paired super nicely with it. We both ended up getting the spicy vodka rigatoni, which is where things threw me off a little. I love vodka pasta, but this did not taste like vodka pasta. It has smoked mozzarella in it, but the smoked flavor overpowered the dish to the point where that was all you could taste. It didn't taste bad, but I wouldn't say it tastes like vodka pasta. The waiter ended up giving us a free panna cotta, which was extremely nice of him, and it tasted delicious! One of the better spots I've tried in San Jose, and I would definitely come read more

This has been on our list for a while and we're glad we finally tried. We were able to walk in and get a table for 5 on a Friday 8pm with little wait. The restaurant was pretty warm inside and we were sweating through our time there. I don't think they had AC and they just had a couple fans blowing. As for the food, I really enjoyed the Ravioli di Aragosta and Lasagna. The ravioli was filled with a good amount of lobster meat and the tiger prawns were cooked perfectly. Our server was very attentive and a funny guy. We got a birthday dessert for the bday boy and our server also brought out a complimentary dessert for the table. Came here on a random weeknight around 5, and the restaurant was empty, but by the time we left it was packed! The interior is really cute and they lean fully into the South Italian ambiance. The ceiling frescoes are a great touch. Our server and bartender, Rosa, was really lovely! She made great drinks and paced our meal perfectly, and was really warm in her service. We shared the fritti misti, I liked the black olive sauce, it was unexpected and provided good balance. Caesar salad was standard, honestly it's funny to see a Caesar at an Italian restaurant since it's not actually Italian! My hunny and I also shared the vodka sauce pasta, SO yummy, very saucy and creamy and it had good depth of flavor, texture of Mac and cheese like from Homeroom in oakland. Also...STEAK. We went to Locanda Ischia for a birthday dinner. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and seated right away. What caught our eyes upon arrival was the blue color theme and the unique decoration of the restaurant. We ordered an appetizer Tagliere Locanda (cured meat and cheese) to start with. For main dishes, we got lasagna and lobster ravioli. The appetizer portion was huge! Although we ordered the size for 2 people, we were shocked by how big the plate was! It was a large plate filled with nuts, cured meats, cheese, and salad greens. The portion was more for 3-4 than 2. The cured meats were fresh and paired well with the cheese and nuts. The lobster ravioli was filled with lobster chunks and served with creamy sauce. It also came with a few pieces of shrimp. The lasagna was super creamy too and came with a generous portion of ground beef. We were pretty full after the main dishes and decided not to order dessert. However, the servers were super kind to offer us a free panna cotta. The panna cotta was smooth and creamy, and the sweetness was balanced out by the sour berry sauce on top. Overall we had great experience at Locanda Ischia. My only complaint was that we had to wait for about 20min after the appetizer to get our pasta. read more

Gnocchi was well made and you can definitely taste the acidity of the tomato sauce and know that it's great quality. *KIDS CHICKEN(8.8)- chicken was crispy and easy to chew. A bit thin. Large French fries portion size. Cooked well but a little bland *KIDS CHEESE PIZZA (7.9/10)- pizza is pretty basic Ambience: beautiful setting. Feels like you are in Italy. From the servers outfits, dining tables, tile mosaics, ceiling leaves, and lemons, venue stands out. Restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Service: Great service. It's busy being that it's Mother's Day weekend too. Definitely make reservations because we didn't. We were lucky enough that the hostess gave us seats immediately that were pre reserved but kindly stated if we can finish up in an hour wish is fair given the situation. I discovered this restaurant on Yelp while searching for "happy hour," so the four of us decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a fantastic addition to Willow Glen! Since we didn't have a reservation, we were told we could only sit on the patio--perhaps because we just wanted appetizers. I wasn't sure, but I didn't mind; the weather was pleasant, and it was enjoyable to watch people stroll by. Still, I noticed the indoor area wasn't full, which made me wonder why we didn't have the option to sit inside. Every 5 to 10 minutes, a few servers or hostesses would step out of the restaurant, seemingly searching for someone or something. Regardless, the service was prompt, and our food arrived at the table without delay. Overall, we enjoyed the Happy Hour menu. The Truffle Fries were a favorite--so much so that I ordered a second round. The Brussels sprouts were outstanding, with a rich balsamic glaze and Parmigiano Reggiano that made them taste almost decadent. The Bruschetta was also delicious, featuring fresh tomatoes, basil, and other flavorful ingredients. The Panna Cotta was silky, delicate, and elegantly melt-in-your-mouth. On the other hand, the Margherita pizza was underwhelming--edible but not memorable. Similarly, the sangria lacked vibrancy. I would definitely return to try the main menu. While I prefer their Downtown Campbell location, this Willow Glen spot is also charming and certainly worth another visit. read more

Should be 0 stars. This was a ridiculous horrible experience. We booked the front room a month ago, confirmed many times with Rosa Palacios on the day as well, and when we arrived 10 minutes before our reservation, we were told someone else who booked the same room at 2 pm had arrived an hour and a half late and they were still there. We then got placed with our group of 12 people in the middle of the restaurant. This was the ONE thing we did not want as we had guests we had never met before and needed to be able to talk and move around to greet them. We basically got stuck not being able to talk to anyone except the person across from our seat. We could not hear anything. They should have placed the LATE party there, not us. Had we arrived before our guests we would have left and gone somewhere else. Our guests arrived at the same time as us and everyone had to wait outside. Then a waiter came out and told us the crap service news that our booked room was not available AND he then proceeded to announce to all our guests what we had paid per person, for the prefix menu but would give us appetizers for free. Is this normal for your restaurant to tell all guests what someone is paying for them? Horrendous. As mentioned it was too late for us to leave as everyone arrived on time, so we were stuck sitting in the middle. We could not have the speeches prepared for the event, because no one could hear us. Ridiculous. This was our first event experience at this restaurant and obviously we would NEVER recommend this place to anyone and would never return. It was so disappointing. My husband was pissed, but had to let it go as we had everyone around us. The only positive part of the experience was our waiter who worked hard and was apologizing a bunch of times and did his best. He knew we were pissed and did his best. He was good. Kudos to him for being able to make us smile even though we felt tricked. When someone has an event and books a particular room, you can't tell them when they arrive it is not available. The least you should have done is call us so we could have made other last minute arrangements. This just shows the lack of respect for your customers and greed. Worst experience ever. read more

Came in Friday night and it was bumping! Even though we made a reservation, we still had to wait for a little while. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated and it felt cute and quirky. The food had ample of pastas and pizzas options and we decided to get a salad, two pastas and a pizza to share amongst three of us. We ordered: Locanda salad: mostly salad mixes with some watermelons, which was underwhelming. It tasted like something one could easily make at home. We've been to several Locanda locations, including Walnut Creek, San Ramon, Livermore, and Campbell, so we were happy to have one closer to us in Willow Glen. This location is a little smaller, and the décor doesn't feel quite as modern as some of the other locations, but the food is just as consistent. The menu is essentially the same, with plenty of familiar Italian favorites. I do hope they expand the menu and add some new options in the future, especially for those of us who visit regularly. Overall, though, it's a great neighborhood spot for a family dinner. The food is consistently good, the staff is friendly and attentive, and we're glad to have Locanda in Willow Glen. read more

Ribeye was our favorite! The pizza we tried, was not to our liking but i think it was just too sweet for us. Will try another next time. OK, the food was really good! My mom loves the clam spaghetti. The mule from the cocktail menu was delicious. The service was 10/10 helpful and friendly. The decor is charming. Willow Glen location is lovely. But the noise! Literally the loudest restaurant I have dined in in decades, even when the crowd thinned and it was half-full. Guys! Got to do something about the sound in that room! But it was a pretty busy on a Monday, do maybe you don't, but I am not sure we can be back at that volume. Don't wait to come here. We LOVED Vin Santo, the Italian restaurant the preceded Locanda. The successor is now the victor. Willow Glen has upped its longtime Italian heritage with Ischia. This was my second time at Locanda Ischia. The food, cocktails, and desserts were very good like the first time we had dinner, but today we were there for lunch and it was difficult to pick the food I wanted because there were so many tempting selections on the lunch menu. I ended up choosing the daily special Risotto, which was as authentically prepared as those I have had several times in northern Italy. Topped with fall-apart tender braised veal and burrata, the Risotto Milanese (saffron rice) was a perfect "al dente." My partner had the braciola, which was incredibly succulent, flavorful, and easy to eat. The carrots that came with it were expertly cooked: firm but tender. We were served by Antonio, who is one of the best waiters I have experienced in quite some time. Delightfully friendly and knowledgeable, Antonio made our lunch experience very satisfying, pleasurable, and not rushed. We had an early lunch reservation, so we had a little extra time to chit chat before getting down to the menu. Just a note for those not familiar with Italian tradition: it is considered rude to deliver your check to you until you ask for it, so when you are ready to leave, just ask for the bill. This is just one more indication that Locanda Ischia is quite authentic and traditional in its food and service. We don't live in San Jose, so we can't dine here as often as we would like. We are fortunate, however, to have friends in Willow Glen, and I always suggest Locanda Ischia when meeting for lunch or dinner. read more

Went here on a whim on a Friday night. It was bustling but not completely full. We were able to get the last high top table in the bar area. It was a horrible round table honestly, they need to remove it and replace with the same rectangular tables that they had a couple of already. Only bad thing I have to say about the entire experience. There was nowhere to put your legs, your bag, or anything more than a drink. Luckily a couple left the bar within 10 mins so we sat there. We had an excellent food and wine, and an even better experience. We ordered the burrata appetizer, my partner had the lasagna and I got the mushroom pasta special of the day. Everything was delicious. You could tell the chef thought carefully about all of the elements of each dish working together, especially in the burrata app. The owner gave us a free pana cotta dessert. I have no idea why, but it was such a nice treat. Delicious as everything else was, and perfectly set. We will come back for sure, just won't accept that one horrible table. Attended a Mother's Day lunch with about 15 people. Service was awesome and the delivery cadence was spot on with most dishes arriving at around the same time. I tried the chicken parm and it was a large portion with beaded, but soggy thin cut pounded cutlets. It came with two, stacked on top of each other. Also tried the frito misto which was also a good portion size and decent but very chewy calamari. Nice place and I would return. read more

Visited this small restaurant on a weeknight with some friends. Great food and service; only docking a star for bad ventilation throughout the restaurant and the pricey tag. The Margherita pizza was lovely, and must be eaten straight out of the oven. The Ziti dish was outstanding; I usually stick to red sauce, but completely fell for this one. Service with a smile was amazing. I wish there were better airflow through the restaurant - got quite uncomfortably warm, as other reviewers mentioned. That said, do I think this was worth the $60-70 I spent? Probably not, as it's just a humble Willow Glen restaurant and the experience isn't SF city level. Made a reservation on Opentable to get dinner with a friend and we came on Sunday night around 5:45pm. We got to choose where we wanted to sit and it had a cute vibe inside (very cozy). We ordered the bread basket, fritto misto, zucchini fettuccine, and rigatoni. Everything came out very fast and our server was very attentive. My favorite wasn't even the food it was the dessert We ordered the tiramisu which had nutella drizzle and it was honestly the best tiramisu i've had! The space definitely has the same vibe as their Campbell location -- cozy, warm, and really nicely decorated. Service was great. Our waiter was super sweet and attentive. But the food was just okay for me. I'm not sure why, but I definitely prefer the dishes at the Campbell location more. We tried the fritto misto, basically calamari. It was good, but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. My friend ordered the special of the day, the lobster ravioli, and I got the rigatoni alla vodka. Both dishes kind of tasted like they had the same sauce, and overall everything felt a bit bland. For started we tried their bruschetta and it was great. I loved the addition of the green olives and they did not skimp out at all. The basil and tomatoes were very fresh. For entrees we split their San Daniele pizza and vodka pasta. OH MY GOD! Whatever you do get the vodka pasta. I've never tasted something so delicious! The host was incredible and informed me that they were running behind about 20 minutes behind. She communicated throughout the processes which is the only thing you could actually ask for.
