I hate a QR code menu, but I'll make an exception for Locale. Because Locale is the best. Don't believe me? Reasons Why Locale Is The Best: 1. It's ranked #22 on the World's Best Bars list, so it's not just me telling you this. Well, I suppose it's only the 22nd best, but out of the world? That's still the best in my book. 2. They brought us free drinks with our drinks. There was a little starter Americano right when we sat down, and then a little goodbye shot when we left. I like free drinks. (The actual drinks will run you 20 euro apiece, which is pricey for Florence, but not the most expensive we encountered...and basically average for NYC.) 3. They brought us free snacks with our drinks. Little pickled veggies, and some delightfully spiced nuts. Deez nuts are quite tasty. 4. The service is so eager to please (see all the aforementioned lagniappe). They filled my water up 37 times and I was only there for 45 minutes. They cobbled together seating for our 8-person party in about 5 minutes, despite being busy. And everyone was exceptionally nice, with the slight exception of the stunning hostess, who I don't think has the ability to smile. 5. The space is bright and airy, with living walls and a retractable roof that brings in fresh air when the weather is nice, and closes up when it gets too cool in the evening. 6. I mentioned the menu, and how I generally despise a QR code...but theirs is hilarious, and thoughtful, and entertaining. The cocktails, in addition to being interesting and well-balanced and delicious, are all accompanied by a hand gesture, as Italians are wont to make. 7. The bartender is doing the most. Stirring many cocktails at once, throwing that bloody mary concoction back and forth in his shaker...I'm not sure if it does anything, but it was amongst the best bloodies I've ever had. So kudos to him. 8. Everything here is done with intention. The coasters, the business cards (that have the QR codes), the snacks, the cocktails. And everything is better when it's done with intention. Eight is enough, or so sitcom titles would have me believe. read more

I have so many things to say about this restaurant/bar. I came here with my family for food and drinks after seeing their high rankings on the 50 World's Best Bars list, plus for their Michelin rating. First I'll start with the ambience. Upon walking in you can tell this is a cocktail bar. It's well decorated and dimly lit, and the retractable rooftop gives an al fresco feel. It is fairly upscale where you will want to dress up a bit for the night, but without feeling stuffy. The servers all greeted us with a smile and were extremely welcoming. All of our menu- related questions were thoroughly answered, and they didn't rush us ( in fact we spent 3 hours here). My water cup never ran empty, and they were attentive to any needs such as a new cocktail. We opted for the Act 2 tasting menu. I honestly lost track of how many courses we had, but each was more amazing than the last. The execution of each dish and creativity behind the flavor combinations had us all in awe. The dishes were unique while still maintaining some semblance of a Tuscan touch, and fresh ingredients. Although the portions for each course was small and more bite sized, we left feeling full and well fed since there are many 'acts'. I encourage everyone to do at least one of the tasting menus, even if you are not an adventurous eater, because you will be pleasantly surprised. They also are able to replace courses for anyone who is vegetarian or pescetarian. For example, my mother in law does not eat seafood and they substituted the mussel with what she described as "the best mushroom I've ever had." There was an item on the menu I had never eaten before, pigeon. I would be lying if I told you I wasn't scared to try it. To the reassurance of the waitress, it is not a pigeon from outside on the streets. It was actually a typical Tuscan dish, from pigeons out in the countryside. The flavor is similar to that of a dark meat, and honestly it was one of my favorite courses on the menu. Dessert was also about 3-4 courses and began with a sorbet 'palette cleanser'. They also had come by and hand scooped mini gelato cones and brought a stand with 3 bite sized desserts on it. Now for the cocktails. We got a bunch to try amongst the three of us. There was no bad drink, just a matter of ordering what suits your flavor palette the best. If you're unsure, the waitstaff was helpful with guiding our choices. If you're in Florence and able to splurge a bit more for dinner, I encourage you to come to Locale Firenze. (In addition to the tasting for the table, everyone had about 2-3 cocktails plus a bottle of wine and it came to around 200 euro pp). read more

Didn't think of making reservations since we were with my kids ages 9 and 7. Surprised they sat us right away when they opened! Tons of servers waiting to help you. Usually I get vibes from high end cocktail bars and restaurants that kids aren't really fully welcomed. Not the case here. They welcomed us with a small cocktail drink and made them two alcohol free ones! They loved it. We ended up staying for 3 drinks each and getting the ham and cheese sandwich finger food. Outstanding cocktails in a historic building. Stopped by Locale on a beautiful September evening. They have a retractable roof for we were able to enjoy the great weather while seated indoors. Best bar I've been to in Italy hands down! They were so good that I came here multiple times on the trip. When walking in you can clearly tell the bar has an upscale vibe to it and has elegant decor. The staff are very friendly and super accommodating. They will make sure to set you up with the right drink if you're ever indecisive. When we were seated they brought over free welcome drinks and some roasted nuts. Then when ordering they set my girlfriend and I up with some awesome choices for drinks. She had the breakfast martini 2 and I had the Foglia. Both were strong but not over powering and were very tasty and light. They also gave us free shots during the stay and also right before we left. The best cocktail bar in Florence! It's on the World's 50 Best Bar list for a reason. As you enter, you're enthralled into a beautifully decorated space with a glass ceiling. The most unique and exquisite cocktails with alluring staff and design, this place is an experience in itself. There are multiple connecting rooms throughout the bar, and it turns into DJ vibes late night. There is even a downstairs basement area, available for rent out, from the 13th century. I'm a teacher (aka professional drinker) and I've been to a dozen of the world's best bars and hundreds of bars in general. Summer = no teaching = more time to drink! My partner & I went here last month (June 2025). The drinks were very creative here and they had nice food bites, but the no-no happened when they brought us a cocktail with a bug in it. First, bugs get in drinks - I acknowledge that. However, where they messed up is how they handled it. They used tweezers to take out the bug, rinsed the ice cube, and then gave back the drink?! This place was personally recommended to me by a friend who owns a different bar in Florence and grew up here. The hostess and the bouncer were lovely; but I had a weird interaction with my server. He brought the check almost immediately after serving my drink, before I even had a chance to take a sip. I asked him if it was last call and he said no. Locale Firenze is an establishment that feels like your artsy Italian friend's apartment. Exposed brick, funky wallpaper, chilled beats - this place has a trendy yet cultured vibe. We waited about 10 minutes outside to enter. Once inside, the waitress gave us a small frozen cocktail and small snacks to nibble on to enjoy while we waited for our table to open up. A nice gesture during the short wait. We came just for cocktails and weren't disappointed. Their cocktails packed a smooth boozy punch. And the bartenders crafted an excellent signature that had me eager for more, but the waitstaff rarely came back to the table. The space inside is spacious with additional seating behind the bar. Prices are on the steep side for drinks. Service moves at a slower pace, but that's often the norm in Italy. The vibrant energy still makes Locale Firenze appealing in my opinion. If you want to feel pampered and luxurious then this is a decent choice of restaurant. I meant to just go to the bar for cocktails but mistakenly booked a reso for the restaurant. I regret it but it is was certainly an interesting dining experience. Personally, I'm much less about ambiance and more about the food. 5 stars for the service, 3 for the food. For me the food felt very style over substance. Very fancy looking dishes and ingredients but as for taste it was all very underwhelming - BUT we got a very unexpected large amount of freebies before our courses came out so despite the high price tag for 2 courses (80 euro) I'd say the value is alright. read more

First impression of the restaurant were, great colors, decor, fabrics furniture and glassware. We had reservations for 730pm and the rope at the door stayed up until 741pm. Not sure the exact reason and none was given. Great music but a little too loud for the environment. We all found it difficult to communicate with each other as well as our wait staff. We've just started. So far the menu and descriptions are confusing as a first time visitor. Second, a glass dish with a truffle was brought to the table. The smell was so strong that I wanted to leave the table. Some in our party were fans of the truffle but if you're not be warned, because you will not be warned by the staff. The wine person was detailed and excellent with the wine drinkers in our party. She took her time to ask and explain the differences of the wines she brought back to the table after getting to know each persons preferences. I had made a request for a bread selection to be brought to the table only to be told that we would get it on their schedule. First arrival was a small broth sample, followed by a "finger food" muscle with a third small piece of grilled brioche. All very delayed. We are now at the bread service. Interesting and delicious. Next up is a razor clam first impression is it tastes fresh and it's room temperature. I would say it would be better if it were hot. Next dish was the chicken which was a chicken pasta where I found it difficult to find the chicken. But, as pasta it was delicious. On to the next dish, the cauliflower with mushrooms. Very tender perfectly cooked. All-in-all another good restaurant for the people who like the small plate dinners. For normal diners it's going to be a 50/50 experience. I'd say 3-4's. read more

TLDR: Manager at place is professional, but one of the darkskin waiter that looks a little intimidating is racist to asians. Would have given it 1 star, but have an extra star for the manager Got to the bar at about 930pm, and waited in line to get a table, a nice lady came out and placed us in queue for a table. After waiting for about half an hour, this dark skinned dude came out out of nowhere, singled us out and told us that because we are "too downdressed for smart casual food wearing trousers" and that they are all full for tonight, so, and I quote "it is impossible to give you a table", when we clearly see people wearing similar clothes (jackets and trousers) coming in and out the bar. Obv we left because he is clearly targeting us because we are Asian. Edit: We spoke with manager afterwards, he was much better to talk to, very professional. Exceptional service and environment. We had an absolutely delicious meal complete with complimentary amuse bouche, delicious breads served up artistically, and a decadent dessert tower. We had the vegetarian risotto with mushroom confit and fish filled pasta, both were mouthwatering and delightful. We chose not to do the full tasting menu but next time I want to see all the talent the chef has to share. We then did a tour of the lower floor and we're impressed not only by the elegance but the sommelier's knowledge and presentation. There were eight in our the group the attention to detail and little touches are what make this place so spectacular. Not only is the ambiance spectacular the service was top notch. It is expensive but I believe it was well worth it. Starting off with the complimentary amuse-bouche and these wonderful cheesy crisps with they're wine jelly. Also the complimentary aperitif. First off, let's start with the space. This place oozes cool. Seriously- fresh plants, a dark sexy vibe, multiple dining areas. If you're looking to really impress a date - take them here. It's full of beautiful people too. Now, upon opening the drink menu and seeing cocktails that go for 20-35 euro PER DRINK, I thought this place was absurd. However, after actually trying some of their signature cocktails, I'd probably pay double that price for them - the drinks here are an art form. I had the breakfast in Modena and have been raving about it since. So many details and personal touches go into each drink, and the result is something truly innovative that I can promise you've never had before. Went here for a late night drink. It's 20 euros a cocktail. The cocktails were perfect tasting. I had a peach Bellini. It was perfect with freshly crushed peach in it. My friend had Rosemary in her ice cubes. The server was fabulous. He asked each of our tastes and personalized drinks for the people at my table. He also gave us a tour of the original building down below. There is an original kitchen, etc from back hundreds of years ago in the basement. The place is beautifully arranged. First of all, I eat out a lot. I'm a restaurateur, so I like to go to at least one very fine dining restaurant on each trip. I did not think Locale was going to be that place- the website is not great, and I was unclear of what kind of a meal we were in for. I was wrong. The service is really what amazed me- everyone, from the bartender that greeted us to the back waiters and food runners, was charming, friendly, and warm. Not always what you can expect from staff dealing with Americans as much as they do. The cocktails rivaled any mixologist from San Francisco's best efforts (and we do cocktails very, very well in SF). Mine was a savory spirit driven cocktail of gin infused with parmesan and red onions- fantastic. And there were all sorts of little complimentary treats, including a tower of 4 little snacks at the bar, an amuse bouche at the table, and another tower of sweet snacks at the end. People seem very caught up on the prices here, and it is indeed expensive- but you get what you pay for tenfold. After dinner, they took us on a tour of the "basement" (what would have been street level before 900 years of the street building up). The Medici family lived here in the 1200's and the tour is museum quality- they've done a gorgeous job preserving the space. Having been to countless Michelin Star restaurants that were stuffy and contrived, this meal thrilled me. The meal itself was elegant and complex without being precious, and the service was far above par. It was about 340 euros for two people including cocktails, wine, and service- so yes, it's a special event kind of meal. But my oh my, so special! read more

Came here for our last dinner in Florence. We got the pre fix menu which is 150 euros each. I dont think i liked a single dish in this menu. My first course was oysters with pea puree and chicken oysters. Pea purée was bitter and chicken oysters are underwhelmed. Oyster also tasted weird. Ravioli and shrimp was ok but a little on the salty side. Fish was just okay, I feel like all of the ingredients do not go well together at all. I dont know if the chef really tasted his food. Foi gras is ok. Pigeon is a little bit too gammy and the ragu is way salty. Deserts are better but not wow. Service is top notch. Presentation for the meals are beautiful and very fancy. One of the BEST restaurants we had in our life, and we dined the best restaurants around the world. it's not just the food that are with great presentation and amazing taste, this place is build upon a building in 1200s! And still retained some of the original parts under the ground level - it's one of the kind! Locale serves excellent food and unique cocktails. Overall, we were thrilled with the service and quality of everything. Upon arrival, there was an event in the bar area, so we headed straight for our reserved table. Upon being seated we were offered an aperitif crafted by the bartender, which served as an excellent start to the meal. We ordered a few cocktails, including a tequila drink made with serrano chili bitters, and set to work reading the menu. We ordered a mix of seafood and red meat dishes. Standouts included both the gnocchi and pappardelle, as well as the carpaccio. After the first round of cocktails, I ordered a second; their take on a season gimlet, which was also good. What also sets the meal apart is the care in the ingredients chosen. The butter comes from the chefs mothers farm. The bread is made in house, and is exceptional. The antipasti, almost a tomato tartar, was fresh and vibrant, as if the chef was trying to claw back the last few days of summer. The only thing that stands between this meal and a true 5 Star meal, is the value. For €20 a cocktail I expect to be blown away. These cocktails are good, but can't hold a candle to the likes of Drink or Hawthorne in Boston. The same can be said for some of the meat dishes. The steak was good, but at €48, it should be in line with the likes of Bateau or Grill 23. Overall, it's worth a visit, and the next time I'm in Florence, I'll pop into the bar for a drink or two, to see how the mixologists work, but I don't know that I'll be back for dinner. read more

Service war terribly slow! Our reservation was at 8:30pm and at 9:10 we still only had water. No drinks, no bread!!! We ordered the top tier tasting/paring menu at $180 per person! We expected amazing! It was not!!! The larger problem is when we got are bill. We were expecting $180 x 2 = $360 plus a bit extra for still water. But nope!
