Love this place. Fun graphic tshirts and arty type gifts. Whenever I'm in the area I stop by and leave with a few purchases

This was such a cute shop! As soon as you walk in you feel welcome to explore. They have art, clothing, keepsakes and more. We spent a good 15-20 minutes browsing through the shop and trying not to take everything home with us. The store is very open and well organized so you don't feel overwhelmed looking through everything and there is a good mix of funny, nostalgic, local and cute items that make it easy to find something for anyone you're shopping for including yourself. There was a nice person behind the check out who checked in with us, but gave us the space to look through everything at our own pace. I'll definitely pop in whenever I'm in the area to find some gems. read more

This intimate little gift shop strikes me as a bit lost on 17th Street in the Castro as it felt more like a Marina shop or at least something you'd find in the Ferry Building. The only reason I became aware of it is that it's right in front of you as you spill out of an F-Line streetcar. It took me quite a while to enter the shop because for the longest time, I presumed it was a typical Castro gift shop with sex toys and penile-shaped popsicle makers. No, it's a tasteful emporium of higher-end souvenirs of the city and the state. Merchandise ranges from hand-crafted jewelry to clothing (not just T-shirts - http://bit.ly/2rqUA8d) to artwork. I feel like such a dummy for not yet reviewing the place where I've purchased nearly every Christmas gift since they opened in 2013. As you can probably tell from their super transparent name, they sell locally made goods: Everything from knit wear and jewelry to onesies and candles. Their staff is always the nicest and super helpful when you need to find that perfect gift or card (they have GREAT cards). Here's a smattering of delightful things I've purchased from local take (and/or items for which I dropped not-so-subtle hints to my husband in an unrelenting manner until they were mine): -tea towels with Sutro and the GGB screenprinted on -A piece of driftwood from OB etched w/SF skyline that I turned into a killer sunglass rack -Mr and Mrs Pacman art (made with nails and thread) -cutest gray beanie ever -far too many scarfs to even mention...one per xmas since 2013 -a pair of oakland crane earrings for my bff with a crane tattoo -Jake's Castro Kitchen Jam -candles where a percentage of purchase goes toward classroom supplies for local schools -so many earrings (moon and stars being my favorites) -pins made from recycled books where a percentage of the purchase goes toward literacy programs -all of the onesies for all of the other people's babies Be sure and get on their mailing list. One of my newest neighbors in the Castro, Local Take is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. It boasts a great selection of jewelry, artwork, clothing, and home accessories. Lots of handmade and locally sourced products that don't break the bank. The best part about this place (besides the always friendly and helpful customer service) is their array of artwork and prints. We came to San Francisco for the first time today and wanted souvenirs, of course. I personally wanted something that was both representative of San Francisco and at least mildly gay, so we wandered the Castro district in search of just that. We finally found Local Take and I'm so glad we did. Not only did we all find something we loved, but Scott was so friendly and helpful, both with our shopping experience and with recommending things to see and do during our short stay. While waiting on my car to get smoged, the Mr & I decided to walk around a bit & avoid the methheads loitering at the Chevron. Local Take is a super fun store with all things SF! Fun designs on T-shirt's with a good variety of cityscapes, from which to choose. They also had pillows, picture frames, tote bags, jewelry & just about everything else you can think of that can have a SF logo or landmark on it. It was awesome! This little shop has really cute SF souvenirs! My husband and I always stop by here when we need to give gifts to out-of-towners. (And often we end up buying things for ourselves too!) They range from clothes (baby and adult size) to candles to bags to cushions and other knick knacks. We are always happy with our purchases, even though they are not cheap. I've been wanting to check Local Take out when I first saw it a few months back. I finally had the chance to during one of the federal holidays that just passed. It's a cute store with lots of great local products. The two women who worked there were really nice. They had a meeting with a local vendor, so I didn't want to interrupt when I had a question. One of them came up to me to ask how I was doing. I asked if they had a medium of a shirt I wanted in the back, and she got it right away. She could've said she would be right with me after the meeting, or she could've ignored me. But she took care of me right away and I appreciate that. If you're in the Castro as either a tourist or a local, you should visit this place for unique merchandise. read more

I love this store and usually the people in the store. This was not the case tonight when I walked into the new location at Westfield Mall. The woman with the short cropped hair never got off the phone while we were there or even acknowledged our presence. We got to hear all about the guy from New York while she gossiped. When we left we rolled our eyes at the horrible impression she made and she commented with a snide remark to us. I've never seen anyone at this store so rude and unprofessional. I realize it was slow and she was engaged in a conversation on her phone but learn to prioritize your customers! read more

Another local artsy store without the hipster pretentiousness. The staff here is SO friendly! And you can even bring your dog inside the store! I guess we were lucky because when we stumbled upon it, the store just so happened to be hosting a "Valentine's Day Shopping Party' aka an excuse to drink some booze (beer & wine) and eat some goodies.. for free! They have a great selection of local goods, from home decor to SF-pride punny shirts to jewelry to soaps. It took a massive amount of self-control to not want to buy everything in sight. I walked into this shop back in Dec 2013 just to browse and left with three items. I walked out remarking to them "I know I love a place when I see twenty things I want in just 15 minutes. I'm be back." Today I stopped in quickly as I was on errands and only had a few minutes. Left with three items and regretted I didn't have time to look more. This is such a fantastic store.
