Where else in San Francisco can you build a custom essential oil perfume blend for under $30? After smelling all of the oils (highly recommend taking notes), the owner helped me create a blend to my liking with 5 different oils - Sea Salt, Oakmoss, Fig, Himalaya, and Coriander. The end result was a complex, but clean spring fragrance. The owner was so good at keeping me involved in the process, asking me if it needed tweaking, etc. I can't wait to come back to refill my bottle once I need to whip up another blend! Love this store. Just happen to be walking around the area while waiting for my takeout order when I visited for the first time. This place is so captivating, I wish I had more time to look every time I visit! The store associates were so friendly and the store felt very cozy to be in. A beautiful boutique filled with lovely local, artisan clothing, fragrances and related. The atmosphere is warm welcoming and friendly and the displays are lovely. They sell both fragrances and essential oils. The perfume fragrances are beautiful and I would select these over the very high end natural fragrances made of isolates at high end department stores. But I am writing this review regarding customer service. First visit--the salesperson was sweet and so attentive. I ended up buying a product that was not what I expected. I returned a week later simply to give it back not knowing what else to do with it. I was quite critical of the item. A different salesperson was there and she did not agree with me and stated what I claimed was incorrect; we lightly debated the oil in question. And yet, she was very polite and civilized and allowed me to exchange the oil for a product I know well. I did not expect an exchange or a refund from a small boutique but just to return the essential oil and share my assessment of it. So, regarding customer service -- it's an A+! And it's a beautiful store and my issues were ones unlikely to impact most shoppers! read more

I went in and was greeted by a young Asian woman (I wish I knew her name!) who was more than patient with me as I tried to describe the scent lol. She helped me find the scent and tweak it to my liking! She is skilled at what she does and is extremely knowledgeable on the oils and how they pair with each individual person. I seriously get soooo many compliments on my scent when I am out, and the best part is the oil is made just for me! You don't have to hide your perfume secrets, because no one can go and buy your personally created scent! I LOVE THAT! This shop also hand makes incense! They smell intoxicating! I came in here looking for holiday presents. One step inside and I was smitten. Lulling music. Sweet aromas everywhere. Trinkets. Candles. Tea sets. Beautiful charms. Darling reads. Gorgeous, cute stuff. I delved into everything. Twenty minutes later ...my nose was practically numb from sniffing all the incense and my hands were a slippery (yet pleasantly moisturized) mess from all of the fresh scented lotion. Not a fun recipe, unless you have a 'thing' for Marshall's sales lines. I was trying my best to think frugally. I decided to postpone gifts for friends. I'd make them stuff. It always works. Plus, I enjoy it. But my mom......that was a tough one. And so I went back into the confines of my mind and dug deep. Back to the times.....when mom would unleash her wisdom on me. (eating in the kitchen with my mom) Me (age five) "How old is dad?" Mom "Hmmmmm let me see here - 91...mmmmm, wait., no 90,- his birthday hasn't come yet." Me (age five) "What does dad do?" Mom "He built the Golden Gate bridge of course!" Me (age five) "By himself?!" Mom "No - he headed up the project, but he also put some manual labor in. I think he took his hammer to work a couple of days. Make sure you tell everyone that at show and tell. They will definitely be impressed!." (my dad has absolutely no connection with the GG bridge) Me (age five) " yeah...I will, that's pretty cool. Jane will definitely be jealous. Her dad's a lawyer! Can you pass the tomatoes? mmmmmm I love tomatoes. " Mom . "You should. If you're from SF - you have to love them. It's a proven fact." Me: (age five) "Nuh uh!" Mom "I can find it in the encyclopedia for you....or better yet you can read it yourself." Me (age five) " I can't rea...uh....I believe you...." (I went on with this one for a good while) .....a couple of years later Me (age 14) "I'm getting a second hole piercing in my right ear." Mom: No you're not! Me: (age 14) "Why not?" Mom: "Because only street walkers have two hole piercings. Everyone knows that. Oh...look - see that girl....YUP...FOR MONEY! " Me (age 14) "You're crazy! I'm getting it done." Mom: "Well if you want people mistaking you for a hooker, go right ahead." Not that long after -I got my my ear cartilage , my nose, and two holes in each year pierced. But nope, no hooker offers. Nothing. And then it hit me. "Mom isn't always right!" And in the midst of reliving my epiphany in Life, I found the most expensive lotion, a lovely candle set, and piled on some other good stuff for my mom. I even went to the Westfield mall (not my favorite place) to pick up other goodies. Because my mom's shots of wisdom, may not have always been true, but it was some good stuff. QUALITY. Love this place! I used to live a block away and now have moved across the city. I still come here for jewelry and purses. It's the only place I've found where my husband can go and buy me jewelry and I always like it. (He brought me some doozy pieces before we settled on this plan.) This little shop is the best. I walk by often with my little dog and stop in to get gifts for friends and never leave without getting something for myself. LIfe has the best incense in the entire city. They make their own incense in amazing blends from their all-natural essential oil collection. You can sometime see them drying in the window. So, this is a real story...I loved the fragrance of their incense called "love" and the sales woman told me a story about another woman who bought it, lit it at home and when her husband came home he out of the blue and out of character gave her a big kiss... Well, this happened again to my friend, whom I gave a couple of "love" sticks to her. She texted me that very afternoon saying when her husband came home after she burned the incense, "He came up and kissed me randomly. It works! So funny. He actually got googly eyed!" I love love love this place, it's my go to spot for birthday presents and cards for my friends. They have the best sensed oils and incense. I love mixing the oils to make blends that represent my current mood. The ladies their are so nice, I love it when they get new jewelry and stop by often to get first dibs. If the scents coming from this place don't draw you in then you need to open your eyes and nose. It looks like a Victorian entrance and could easily be mistaken for some hippy joint. Go inside and you are instantly in another world of sensual smells and decor. You can find so many wonderful things in this store. As a young person I am used to weak customer service...but this store just made me feel uncomfortable. After reading the yelp reviews, I had gone in there planning to buy, but was treated like an unwanted window shopper. Though the woman at the counter finally paid attention to me when I asked about the perfume oils, she was really unfriendly and intimidating. I do give this place three stars though because of the great selection and ambiance. I bought some vanilla perfume oil for my mother there, which she absolutely loves. Not only does it remind her of her days living in SF, but it has a slight cinnamon smell that is really unique. I'm sure if you are above the age of 21 you MAY be shown some service. read more

The owner of this humble little shop is also the main henna artist. Her work is amazing and if you browse through her books of completed work you'll be impressed. All of her stuff is completely free hand and sometimes she'll just improvise and add to the design as she's doing it. A true artist! I know she's on vacation a lot and sometimes hard to get ahold of for an appointment. But if you catch her in town you're in luck. Great place for unique gifts and present for yourself. I love being able to make my own "signature" fragrance oil, like white tea and Woodstock(step off bitchez...its mine). Plus their funky jewelry is quite cheap, like a giant wooden multi-colored square ring or white bone ring, both for $10 bucks which gets me lots of complements, but then maybe it is just my signature oil scent that attracts folks first. I get my face cleanser there now after the owner told me "just try it, it's just as good as the department store brands" and she was right I love it and it's only $7.
