We had a relatively new hot water heater (HWH), that was installed within 2-4 years back, whose pilot light could not be re-lit. I looked up what could be possible solutions online, but due to certain circumstances, I was concerned about there being an issue with the gas line[s]. The HWH was no longer covered by its warranty so we searched a bit on Yelp and found Local Rooter & Plumbing; I contacted them and they made arrangements to come help us out quickly. Excellent service! I had a clogged on Saturday night and called Local Rooter. I did not have an appointment but nevertheless Mr. Loi Thai accepted my job which I really appreciated. Mr. Loi gave an estimated arrival time of 8:00 pm but actually came 15 minutes earlier. After arriving at the house, Loi quickly ran the snake through the line and cleared out the blockage. Also, Mr. Thai took off his shoe (without me asking) before entering my house and he laid a big piece of protective cloth on the hardwood floor where he set his equipment, these shows his professionalism. What more can I ask for, basically you have someone who comes ASAP and fixes your problem quickly on a Saturday night! And he charged exactly the same price he quoted me on the phone. After the job was done, Mr. Thai also checked my sewage line under the house and made some suggestion (which makes sense to me) about some work that can be done to improve my drainage system. These guys are quick, effective and no nonsense. Early Saturday morning we had a slow running toilet and some back up debris to the bathtub, sure signs of a clogged main. I am somewhat handy and tried to fix it but this was beyond me. We were fortunate that our older house has a sewer clean-out access point outside. The wife said we have used Local Rooter before so I gave them a call. Tai & Toan happened to be in the area and were able to arrive at our house in their large unmarked truck within 15 minutes of the call, not bad on a Saturday morning. They identified the problems quickly gave us the options of a simple clean-out or putting a camera inside pipe to view the problem as well which I preferred not to look at. They gave us an up-front quote, I happened to know the approximate cost of clearing main line clog from our neighbors and Local Rooter was right in range. Had a great experience with Local Rooter & Plumbing. Duy responded to my quote request on Yelp in a timely manner and was upfront about the pricing, which was very reasonable in comparison to the other plumbers I contacted. The total price was just a little bit more than their standard installation due to plumbing in our Condo complex and understandable. I had them install a whole house filtration/descaler system, and they did a great job. I initially had an issue with my kitchen faucet after the install as the pressure was low, and I called Duy, and he offered to come that evening to resolve the issue, but I suggested the following morning instead. They came back at the time and cleared the issue. It was due to excess carbon build up in my faucets filter since that was the faucet I turned on to help flush the water, and they cleaned it up as well as my other faucets as well. Called Duy on Saturday and came promptly and quickly diagnosed the pressure valve issue. Unfortunately, he did not have the valve available right there so came again Tuesday to replace it. He quickly replaced the valve and on top of it, reduced the cost because it was easier and quicker than what he thought it'd be (he was able to secure the exact valve as the old one). I called Local Rooter in the late afternoon and they sent out a tech within an hour. They charge $165/hr. Very reasonable price. David Dinh was our tech! He called before he arrived. He was friendly, professional and very informative. Our tub was backing up and the toilets were not flushing. David snaked 2 way clean out and was able to clear the blockage with no issues. He was thorough and made sure everything was clear before he finished. So I told him that the tub was not draining since all the sewage backed into it. He then snaked the tub AND he literally cleaned the tub. He snaked it twice to make sure it was clear and he finished by wiping up the rest of the tub. I never write a review, but here is my first one. Awesome job from Local Rooter, my first experience with them and particularly Kim Vo. I had a problem where in my washer flow was backing up into the garage sink. Called my home warranty company and they deployed another company guy to do the cleaning/snaking etc. but in spite of the guy spending 3 hours between two visits, nothing happened and no root cause. Time was going and life was at a standstill with over a week of no laundry. Finally a colleague gave me their phone number and this guy showed on the same day, gave me a precise problem, in fact he found that my kitchen drain had a leakage and needed a more urgent replacement. In all, his explanation, with pictures, video and diagram was excellent. He spent over 45 mins talking to my home warranty company explaining them about the issue. It was late in the day, so I called them next day, and Kim showed up couple of hours later. It was Saturday and he and another gentleman, spent the next 3 hours, making sure all the pipes were changed, tested, additional cleanout installed. Kim was very professional, took away all the anxiety with these kind of jobs, explained each step and charged a reasonable fee for the whole job. I called Local Rooter & Plumbing because we could hear water running in our bathroom even though no water was on, indicating we had a leak somewhere. Within an hour, Johnny arrived to assess the situation (which was even earlier than the hour and a half time estimate I was originally given!). He first crawled underneath our house through the VERY tight crawlspace and figured out that the leak was behind the bathroom wall, not underneath the house. Because we have plaster and lath walls instead of drywall, he was very careful to minimize the size of the hole he had to put in the wall to get the leak fixed. I picked these guys because of the good Yelp reviews but ended having an entirely disappointing experience. I called Duey (I think the owner) letting him know of a significant leak on our side of the water meter in front of our house. He said he will send someone the next day. No one showed up during the hour window Duey gave me, and after I called him, he sent someone by the name of Steve. Steve took a look and gave an estimate of $650 for a job that takes only a couple of hours. I asked Steve how many hours he estimates the job to take and he said "we don't estimate by the hour." I asked him then how did you come up with $650, and he started saying, I need to go Home Depot, and then come back and open up the meter plumbing, and ... He basically saw that we are desperate because the water leak was large and decided to take advantage of the situation. Absolutely dishonest and a waste of our time. read more

We had a leaked faucet in my son's bathroom. Since the fixtures are more than 10 years old, we would like to have the whole set replaced. The handles of our oval tub's faucets were also broken. He thoroughly explained the process to me and I was very impressed with his knowledge and politeness. Kim Vo showed up on time today at 11am. I was very impressed with his skills. He took away the old and broken parts without damaging the tubs, the wall or the pipes. He was able to find parts that are conpatible with my existing pipes and keep the parts that still work to save us money. He finished the job today :):). Our bathtubs now look so nice. Kim Vo (and David) came out and went the extra mile to make sure the lines were clear using both the water jet method and the snake method to get the lines cleaned. He even repaired my kitchen faucet for free (no hot water for two years and wife was real mad at me, getting this fixed was worth it in itself!) Kim suggested we install clean-outs for the drainage. He gave us a reasonable quote. The team came on time and installed the clean-outs. Job well done. Cleaned up after the work. Very professional. Very courteous. We're in the middle of installing our new kitchen. We took out the old sink and noticed a puddle and a pinhole leak. The owner tried to help walk me through how to fix it. I had a great experience with him, but I was a little in over my head. A few days later, we noticed that the hot water heater wasn't working, so we called back. The owner sent David out to our house to fix the hot water shut off valve. He did a great job-especially in the 100 degree weather! We were so impressed with David's professionalism and efficiency. Firstly a note about this 2-star rating given that almost all other ratings are 5-star. I was puzzled about this myself, until I noticed that all the good reviews appear to be for different people (Tai and Duong) than the ones who showed up at my house. So maybe that explains it. I normally don't write reviews but my exceptionally bad experience with this plumber behooves me to warn others that may be similarly thrown off by the 5-star reviews out there. Again, maybe the two individuals quoted in other reviews - Tai and Duong - are worth 5-stars, but the guys that showed up at my door - I would never call them back. We live in an area with lots of trees and every 2-2.5 years we have roots invading our sewer pipe which starts to clog up and eventually needs to be 'rooted'. We had faced this situation twice in the past 5.5 years and had called plumbers to root them out. Both times the rooters had to root about 100 feet of pipe and come back for a second time in a few days because the sewer clogged again - but they came back and finished the job because they stood by their work. The first time I was charged $125 for rooting alone (without a clean-out) and the second time $900 for installing a clean-out and rooting. In both instances the problem didn't reoccur for 2-2.5 years. Fast forward to May 2017, and we start to see the sewer clog a little bit one and off. This continues for a few days and we decide that its the roots again, so I call my old plumber. Turns out he's retired. So then I go on to yelp and call the 5-start rated Local Plumber. The reviews are all wonderful, so what could go wrong? I call them up and they quote me $150 to do the rooting. This matches up with what my first plumber charged so I think this is probably okay. Two guys show up on time - a little early actually - are polite, neat and tidy. I won't name their names, but they are not called or look like the pictures of Duong and Tai - so these are definitely different people (thought they work for the same company). So far so good, but then the surprises start. 1. The first guy tells me is that he will charge extra to insert the camera into the sewer. Really? - he's going to charge me extra for using his own tools? I never do that to *my* clients. I don't want to get played by his scheme so I ask him to just root the sewer from the cleanout in the front yard. I leave them alone so they don't feel I'm watching over their shoulders - but after 15 mins or so I realize that they are packed up and ready to leave! 2. I ask them to show me the roots; and they point me to one little strand of root - one or two inches long only ! I am stunned - how could this 2 inch piece of root be clogging up our sewer?. So they tell me that there was no clog in the section of sewer-pipe that I pointed them to, that the clog is inside the house. 3. So I tell them, okay check inside the house - to which they say that they'll charge me extra! I argue that their job is to fix the problem, not just work on sections of it - to which the second guy says that it was my 'fault' to have pointed them to the wrong section (implying that what just happened was a consequence of my 'fault') 4. I realize that these people are just trying to find ways to make more money than the $150 they quoted me - first by saying that they'll charge an extra $100 for the camera and then more for checking in side the house. So I tell them that this experience does not match-up with the review I read on Yelp. 5. At this point the first guy seems offended (though I never suggested that they were scamming me) and tells me that 'we don't scam people' and that they'll just leave without charging anything. I say, don't leave without your payment, do the job and take your payment. 6. So to prove that the clog is inside, they ask me to run the shower. I do that, the sewer clogs, and the water starts to come out of the clean-out. Oops the clog is indeed not inside the house but in the front-yard - like I had told them and what they had vehemently denied, and had accused me of being at fault ! They had even told me that they had double-checked by running water through the clean-out ! 7. Okay, so we're back to square-one. The clog is in the front-yard and they hadn't rooted it yet. No apology from them. They go at it again and this time insert the camera 'for free' and find lots more roots in there. They remove a little bit - not a whole lot like the previous two plumbers. My wife points that out to which the second guy says - we don't remove all the roots, we'll just unclog your pipe for now. Your only solution is to replace the entire sewer pipe (for which they had quoted me $7500 including a clean-out). Really? 8. I ask them that since they've removed very few roots, will they come back and fix the issue if it reappear within a week? They refuse. 9. I'm sure that the problem will re-occur much sooner this time - maybe even weeks. read more

Had a water leak in my garage on a Friday afternoon. Attempted to resolve it myself but problem was just too complicated so I made a request for a quote on Yelp from a number of companies. Local Rooter & Plumbing responded quickly (within 30 minutes) and since they were fully booked on Saturday, promised to send someone out on Friday night at 10PM (this request was made around 7PM). At 7PM an employee name Vo showed arrived. He quickly assessed the problem and gave me a firm price for the work he was about to do which was very reasonable. Vo went back to his extremely well stocked truck (the reason I know this is from past work on this water heater I am aware that the pipe sizes are non-standard - a lot of plumbing supply places don't have them in stock and I need to special order). In less then an hour he had not only replaced the failed pipe but reconfigured the pipe coming out of the wall to no longer conflict with the vent as well. He also replaced the existing turn off valve which only worked at a 90% level with a serious drip. He went beyond what I expected him to have done for the price he quoted me. He was done in less then an hour and we once again had hot water. I will certainly hire him again. read more
