I've had a few not so great (& expensive) experiences at coffee houses lately so I entered this café with hesitation. I ordered an iced cold brew for myself and my husband got a 20 ounce hot Americano. The barista asked if he would like fruity or chocolate notes in the Americano he selected fruity. (I would've selected chocolate personally) While the cold brew was tasty, that Americano knocked it out of the park for me. It was over the top unique and distinct. Sadly my husband did not enjoy it, but I absolutely loved it. We talked to the barista, Mia about the coffee beans and the flavors. Mia offered to make him a different Americano, but he declined. She geeked out on coffee beans with me & explained how the beans were fermented with strawberries (!!!!) I can totally understand why people would not like this process, but I found it to be remarkable. I really wanted to order the chocolate version just to try it out but after spending $14 on two drinks, I decided against it. Overall, a great experience with wonderful service especially from Mia. Will definitely be back next time I'm in San Antonio.
Local Coffee Founders has a cool vibe and a great location in downtown San Antonio. The space is open, modern, and perfect if you want to work, people-watch, or meet up with friends. Coffee-wise, it was solid but not mind-blowing. I had a latte that was decent, but not super memorable. They do have a nice selection of pastries and light bites, though a few items were sold out when I visited. Service was friendly, but a bit slow, even though it wasn't very busy. Overall, it's a good place to stop for a casual coffee break, especially if you're nearby. Not my top favorite, but worth checking out if you're in the area. It is right by the river walk.

What I ordered: Iced matcha latte with oat milk (3.5/5 stars) A somewhat decent amount of seating with tables large enough to study/work at which is why I've found myself coming back. Overall would recommend :)
Small place but yet it feels like every inch of this space is used effectively and yet you don't feel crowded. I got the Salted Carmel, maybe I should have gotten it extra hot since we were walking around during one of the coldest days in years. The Pearl Historic District is nice and this coffee shop is a great first-stop!
Stopped by here while we were walking at the pearl farmers market! We wanted to get the turmeric ginger chai but it was already sold out for the day. So we got matcha latte with almond milk and chai tea with almond milk. Chai was good but match was too plain and felt like they put match in warm almond milk... a bit of sweetness could be helpful but it was just too plain for $4. But I like the local coffee shop like this tho! It's nice to have it like that in the community. Cheers
Such a cute spot in a really nice area, I was able to set up and hang out for a few hours. Overall I enjoyed this little coffee shop as well as the menu. I ordered a Mexican vanilla Matcha with oat milk and it was absolutely delicious. Staff was friendly in the seating auctions were great. I spent sometime at the bar, but eventually got one of the smaller tables. They had some fun merch and I enjoyed walking around the area afterwards.
Loved the vibe of this coffee joint. The hanging plants and wrap around seating bar were cool. Menu was simple, uncomplicated, and not frou frou. Their baked goods were all displayed in a glass case built into the counter. I ordered the decaf vanilla oat latte. Uncovered the lid and a beautiful frothy heart appeared which put a big smile on my face : ) It was definitely going to be a good day. The hint of vanilla was nice , but despite the decaf, the coffee was strong. I had a little trouble sleeping that night lol
I'm a black coffee kind of guy. I'm frickin beast, I know. I split my black coffee consumption into 3 major groups: normal black coffee, americanos, and cold brews. Sometimes I want my black coffees and americanos hot, sometimes iced. Depends on the weather. Cold brew always iced, obviously. When we came to Local Coffee Founders under the scorching San Antonio sun, I asked for an iced coffee which was $3.25. She rang me up for $4.50. I looked at the menu hanging above her and said "it says it's $3.25 for a coffee..." I thought an iced coffee was just a hot coffee, poured on ice. That's it. That's all I wanted. It's what I do at home. Not rocket science. She seemed baffled and responded "you said you wanted a cold brew?" I said "I asked for an iced coffee..." She looked at me crazy and said "that's the same thing..." I just kind of stared off in the distance, trying to process this. She filled the silence with "...if you want a normal coffee it comes hot" She also seemed genuinely confused, so I was trying to be nice and said "If I just wanted that hot coffee, on ice..." "We don't do that." Uhmmmmmm, ok? I was going to order a hot coffee with a cup of ice on the side just for the plot, but the tension was mounting and I got really shy so I just said "a cold brew is fine." The cold brew was admittedly GAS, but I was still ready to go scorched earth on this review. Then a funny thing happened: This morning at a coffee shop in NY, the same situation occurred. The barista again was looking at me like I had 3 heads. The evidence was mounting, it must be a me problem. I took to google and typed in "What is an iced coffee reddit" and have become more confused than ever. It's not as straightforward as I thought. I'm deep on r/barista right now, and there seems to be a lot of contention over this issue. The baristas of reddit, the most accurate source for anything, are saying there is no clear answer for what is an "iced coffee." Some customers expect a "flashbrew" which is essentially what I was asking for, some expect a cold brew, some expect a black coffee with a little sweetener, and a few psychos expect a latte. I still feel like an iced coffee should be just a black coffee over ice, but what do I know? People are different, and I feel for baristas when customers expect them to read their mind. I will just have to ask for a coffee with a cup of ice on the side moving forward. Also, I know this doesn't tie in but there was a dude working out of here with 3 screens set up. A full battle station. Ridiculous. Bro better start paying rent and utilities at that point smh. I'm ending this review with more questions than I started with, but that's life sometimes. Local Coffee is impressively fast our drinks came out in under 2 minutes after ordering. We tried the horchata cold brew, iced vanilla latte, and orange vanilla latte, and all of them were so good. I love that they offer unique flavors you don't usually find elsewhere. The inside has a really cute aesthetic, and they also sell merch and coffee that's just as cute. Definitely a great spot if you're looking for quality drinks and quick service! read more
BLUF: Solid coffee offerings, get coffee here if you're at The Pearl, but wouldn't come to The Pearl to get coffee here. Local business. I've always had a great experience at Local Coffee Founders at The Pearl. Their cold brew is a reliable thirst quenching caffeinated option if you're in the area, and they offer all of the coffee shop staples you'd expect. During peak hours, this isn't the coffee shop I'd come to for relaxation or to get some work done on my laptop, the interior is small, seating is limited, and the ambient noise is louder than you'll find in other places. They're dog friendly, but I would recommend going with someone that can wait outside while you order or vice versa. Service has always been fairly good, but you'll definitely want to listen closely for them to announce your order is ready. There's ample seating outside in the adjacent courtyard and The Pearl District in general. I like to get coffee here when I'm already in the area, especially during the weekend markets, but this isn't the place I'd come to get coffee otherwise. As with most businesses at The Pearl you're going to be paying a comparative premium to the cost of similar goods elsewhere. Things worth knowing ahead of time: Ample parking at The Pearl, cost varies based on the time and day of the week though. I believe it's still free weekdays before 3pm, and always free for the first 30 minutes. Expect to walk a bit regardless of where you park, as there is no parking directly adjacent to the cafe. read more

Stopped in local coffee this morning to grab a drink before our walk along the river walk. The peppermint latte I had was the perfect amount of sweet + coffee & was served extremely quickly. The staff was very efficient given the long line and were so sweet to chat with! read more

This is a cute coffee shop in the Pearl. However, I am thoroughly disappointed with the matcha. The barista told me that they use "ceremonial-grade" matcha then proceeded to hand me a drink that tasted like milk perhaps the coffee is better read more

Very cute small coffee shop located in the pearl district. Staff members were friendly. I enjoyed watching the barista hand crafted each coffee in a special way. The appeal and crowd is what had sold me to stop in this place but unfortunately my drink didn't meet my expectations. I ordered a simple hot chocolate but it wasn't extremely watery. I also was let down that they didn't have any whipped cream. The service and ambiance is excellent but my drink was horrible which is why I rated this place 2 stars. read more
After roaming some of the stores here in the Pearl, my sister and I stopped in for an Iced Salted Caramel Latte and a Matcha! It had a pretty good vibe going on; it's definitely a good spot to pop in if you're in the Pearl. I wouldn't personally want to hang out in this coffee shop, but it is a good spot if you are in the area and need a hangout spot! The Baristas were friendly and helpful and very quick to make our drinks while they were busy. read more

The peach cobbler latte is to die for. I am not a fast latte drinker but this one was gone very quickly. And then I came back the next day and same thing. The first time I had local back a few years, I didn't love it. I got an iced mocha which wasn't super sweet. Sticking with lattes is a good idea. The staff are really nice. They are also fast. The inside is beautiful. There is lots of seating but everything inside is usually taken. Especially spots with outlets. There is also seating outside. LANY is my favorite band and they played twice in one hour when I was there working!! They also had a great variety with the 1975 and other great artists. Good vibe. read more

I went around 9am on a week day at and it was fairly busy. There's a good amount of seating for a smaller place but I don't think I could work from here with the music and noise level. It's a nice place to get a coffee and theres a small assortment of pastries like pop tarts, muffins, and a chorizo potato empanada that I tried. This place is very convenient when walking around the Pearl for a coffee/tea! They're also open decently late, I believe around 8pm so if you're not into the drinking crowd like us, it's perfect. I enjoyed my matcha here! It's made in front of you and tastes good every time. I think my struggle here is that every time I get this drink, it's a different price. For these 2 matchas with oat milk, we paid almost $18. That's unreal lol -- anywhere you go, you can order a "sweetened matcha" and not be up charged for adding flavors because well, I didn't ask for flavor, I just want it sweetened. It's usually with agave or sugar but she charged both of us .75 cents for flavor.. idk I always try to buy local but their pricing me out with this $8-9 drink lol read more

Giving this spot a 4/5! This shop has great seating options both indoor and outdoor, lots of shops within walking distance, and lots of parking availability. I did park in the pearl parking lot (which was $11) but I think that there's a free parking garage as well, I just didn't see it when I came in. I got the Iced Vanilla Oat latte, it was okay I would give it a 2.5/5. I wouldn't re-order it, next time I will try something else. The merch is really cute, they have some cute tumblers and hats! Baristas were friendly! Overall the coffee I got wasn't great, but the vibe of the shop and the amount of seating options made up for it! Whether you're at the farmers market or just roaming the pearl, Local coffee will have you covered with a mid day pick me up! Oddly enough, this was my first time trying local coffee and I go to the pearl quite often but this will now become a staple every time I'm in the area. I ordered the orange vanilla latte, which was recommended by the barista, and it reminded me of an orange creamsicle!! The inside is quite small but very hip with cute plants hanging around. They also sell merch and other various drinks you can buy if you're not into the coffee scene! read more

The other day in the Pearl I was craving a coffee and found this cute little shop. Love surpoorting small businesses. Excellent customer service. The coffee was so good and rich you can definitely taste the caffeine. Definitely will come back here. read more

Wow! I've been looking for good coffee in San Antonio! This place seems to be a small mom/pop shop; hidden away and under appreciated. The service was one of the friendliest I have encountered. They took the time to ask what I prefer and then made me the absolute bomb coffee! Wow! Everyone in the shop was laid back and helpful; even the customers were friendly and helping each other out. Loved the vibe going on here! My only complaint is that there isn't one in my home state! read more

Uncharacteristically poor experience this morning. Normally they do everything just about perfectly. Today, I ordered a light ice vanilla latte. I ended up with a cup of ice and a side of espresso. I even specified with the barista I'd like light ice. The picture speaks for itself. Service and ambiance were good. A little too crowded for me though. It seems sometimes it's chill in the store other times it's packed. The vibe is normally great but when it's packed it's honestly overwhelming. read more
At the most recent Fall Harvest Night Market that was done at The Pearl, I wanted to try something new so my friends and I stopped in here. This was such a cute little coffee shop and have a cozy feeling on a chillier night. The staff was very friendly and happy to help with any questions I had around the products. They had some unusual products like all the little wellness shots, sunflower butter sandwiches, etc. All of the products seemed to be more focused on being natural which is great! I ended up trying a few of their wellness shots which aren't really about taste. Both my friends and I liked what we ordered. I would definitely go back and hang out here! read more

Matcha latte is a 10/10. So much better than Starbucks! It does come unsweetened but they have in house syrups available to add. The salted caramel was the perfect addition. The ambiance is cute with a good amount of seating. The line was out the door when we arrived but moved quickly. The baristas are friendly, and asked if I liked my drink after ordering. It is located in the Pearl so nice scenery while you enjoy your sips and bites. read more

My sisters and I tried out local coffee. Honestly, it was kinda gross but I also just love sweet and creamy coffee. The espresso is just a tad too bitter for me. We got an iced latte with pumpkin caramel syrup. read more
This coffee shop is nestled between several stores closest to Avenue A. It's always pretty busy here but never takes long for my order to come out. Everyone has always been super sweet and have offered several great suggestions when I'm in the mood to try something different. My new go to is the Orange Vanilla Latte - Oat Milk. It is so delicious and I could probably drink that by the gallon. Ambiance seems great for having a great personable discussion or reading a book. I like to come here on the weekends prior to the farmers market opening. I'll continue to frequent this spot. Peace. read more
