Wow!! I wish I knew about this place sooner!! Quite literally a diamond-in-the-rough, as its set back from Route 6 a little. Amazing craft beer selection, and great menu with even better prices, and a "break" from the tourist trap and prices!! We sat at the bar, cuz we like it that way, and enjoyed the company of a very nice, accommodating, and knowledgeable bartender, and the locals. We felt RIGHT at home. Of course we had appetizers...he had a basket of sweet potato fries (with a horseradish sauce), and I had the grilled romaine salad (with smoked goat cheese, beets, beet-pickled hard-boiled eggs, and candied pecans)...both were amazing appetizers....for the foodies ONLY. For Entrées...My boyfriend cannot say enough about their House burger (a 50/50 blend of chuck and short rib), delicious and completely devoured in 2.5 seconds!! Yuck - who serves shrimp without cleaning them and then tells customer they are supposed to be that way? Really disappointing compared to reviews here on Yelp. Went on a Tuesday night, and it wasn't busy but was about half full. Ordered the wings and shrimp appetizer to start and both were terrible. Wings were cooked unevenly with some missing meat and one burned to dark brown. Worse was the shrimp came out without the shrimp deveined. After we each ate one and were not happy, I peeled three more and none were cleaned properly. When I sent it back to the kitchen and was informed that they don't clean the shrimp before serving them and there was no apology, no offer to recook, no replacement offered, and then it was still on my bill at end of meal! Burgers and sweet potato fries were ordinary at best, and side salad was some greens with canned mandarin orange slices. Food wasn't good, and the establishment had a totally unacceptable attitude to answering a customer complaint about food not properly prepared. I will not go back and recommend you dont either. read more

The service was exquisite and the drinks were well made but the food was not the greatest. We started out with the bacon lollies. I had been told they were to die for. They were honesty nothing special and the portion was quite small for an appetizer for 4 people. For dinner I had the chicken and waffles - a dish I normally love. The portion was HUGE; I could have easily split it between 2 or 3 other people. It was put together like a sandwich but the fried chicken inside was so large I couldn't fit it in my mouth and had to cut it down with a fork and knife. The skin of the chicken slid off far too easily leaving you with massive mouthfuls of flavorless chicken because all of the seasoning was on the skin. Loved, loved, loved this restaurant! Order a bunch of apps/starters as they all sounded so good we couldn't make up our minds. The Eggplant Fritters were the bomb. Very flavorful and great texture. A definite must. The Poutine were also very tasty, meat was tender and not over dressed with gravy. The wedge salad was covered with bacon, greasing and just the right amount of tomatoes and red onion. Stuffed Acorn Squash was jammed packed full of goat cheese, quinoa, Brussel Sprouts and just the right amount of toasted hazel nuts. The wings were good, but could have been fried a little longer to make the skin crispier. Lastly, the Beef Stroganoff Stuffed Shells were not our favorite. Glad we stopped here this evening as everything was delish. Really good take on classic American fare and for when you want a break from all the cape seafood. Although they do have seafood, it has a twist like their ahi tuna sandwich with risotto spread and avocado. Really yummy fries, pickles and sandwiches on brioche. Also staff was super friendly. We love the fact that there's a local place we can go to get a cold beer and a well made mixed drink. The Staff are friendly and aim to please. Now on to the food a word to the wise keep to the basics... burgers & wings etc all really good. It seems as if they may have a new chef every season.. so the seasonal menus are inconsistent at best I typically love their kale soup ....this season it's a kale bean soup = a sweet bean ( little else) soup. My husband had the local boil ( clams, mussels shrimp & chorizo... but instead it was a few over cooked shrimp, a couple of clams & sandy mussels & served with a hotdog !!??? Great draft beer for the BEST price on the Cape $6.50 for great beer and that is so awesome. Cute little area that's kinda of hidden. Spread out tables and all servers wearing a mask. Food was as good. Lot of hype on Yelp for the food and I thought it was good. Burger was juicy and they have specials which is nice. Dad got the mac n' cheese and enjoyed it. Dined on a Thursday evening around 7:15 pm. There was a 20-25 min wait for a party of 3. After waiting about 20 min seats at the bar opened up so we opted to sit there. The bartender came over quickly to take our drink orders and provide menus. We opted for waters and one, a glass of wine. We decided on the grilled shrimp tacos (very good but hard to pick up and eat as it fell apart easily), steak and cheese with a side of Asian slaw. The bun was perfectly buttered and toasted but rather skimpy on the steak. Steak was flavorful but we've had more tender shaved steak before. Asian slaw was very good, on the spicy side. Hubby had the burger which he said was excellent. Fries were hot and crispy. Overall tab $55 excluding tip. Glad we tried it but with so many options in the area, we'd continue to explore. read more

Just a few weeks ago, I ventured onto the Cape by myself, something I had never quite done before. I stayed at my late aunt's house on the inland shore in Eastham. Being the food lover (who does not love food?) but quite incapable cook I am, I decided to dine at local restaurants during my stay. During my search for local scenes to chow down at, one place particularly grabbed my interest- Local Break. Nestled behind an old bike shop, and next to a liquor store, they're located in quite the inconspicuous spot. With limited dining space, yet a warm and welcoming atmosphere, I believe it is safe to consider Local Break "a hole in the wall." Their minimal street side sign especially adds to the label. You quite literally have to be looking specifically for the Local Break in order to dine there- and that's just fine. Looking for an easy night, I was simply browsing local restaurant menus and reviews for a good burger. Unfortunately, my dream for a nice burger quickly vanished at the discovery of quite the epic entrée. Named barbecue enchilada, I knew I couldn't pass up this one in a lifetime opportunity. With genuine excitement accompanied by hunger, I made my way to Local Break. Upon entry of the establishment, I was able to choose my own seating. While this in itself is not particularly the bees' knees of a fine restaurant, it adds to an impressive list of what makes this place kick ass. There's a lot to be said about a great dining spot that lets you choose your own seating- they're ready to please you. With a smile, I was given a glass of water and a menu. You could see the slight confusion in their eyes when I informed them that I was dining alone, but they soon understood. While not entirely uncommon, I'm sure people don't dine there alone much. I opened my menu as if I hadn't seen their menu just 20 minutes prior, and laid my eyes on the coveted entrée. I placed my order and soaked in the atmosphere of Local Break while I waited for roughly 20 to 30 minutes. The restaurant was a little darker than most, and while I'm not sure what mood they were trying to set, it definitely made the experience more intimate. Then came the moment I had been waiting for, the delivery of the dish. The barbecue enchilada, at first glance, had too much going on. There seemed to be way too many ingredients in the dish, many of which I thought would be fighting for attention. However, upon the taste of my first bite, I came to the mind blowing realization that this dish's ingredients worked perfectly together. Local Break's barbecue enchilada is a dish in which all the characters mesh together in quite the American harmony, with a little bit of Mexican spice. This dish was everything I dreamed it would be, and more. Who would have thought combining the American likes of barbecue with the tasteful, spicy bliss of a Mexican enchilada would create a masterpiece? Coleslaw, lettuce, barbecue sauce, chicken, corn, pepper, and what appeared to be guacamole (it was too dark to be 100% sure), all came together and crafted an allure of flavor. Whoever took it upon themselves to brilliantly collude these characters of flavor together should be taken in for testing. Clichés aside, this is, by far, one of the best original restaurant dishes that I've ever had. The dish had just the right kick; so perfectly calibrated that engineers at NASA would have been less accurate. It's the type of spice that gives you a subtle runny nose, but doesn't have you feeling buyer's remorse after consumption. This dish consistently held its beautiful flavor from the first bite through the last. As I prepared to pay my bill and be on my marry way, a customer at the bar states, "Tell the chef that this is the best falafel that I have ever had!" read more

First time down here in Eastham with a bunch of really hungry kids and crazy soccer parents. 1. AMY- our very smart and accommodating waitress. We sat at two tables (kids on one, parents in the other). She was able to divide up the bill into the three families and remember who belonged to who. -- pretty awesome!!! They have a good selection of local (read: New England) beers, margaritas are excellent, and the food is always good. This place has gone through changes over the years. I remember it as Ric's Outer Bar. A little dive hole in the wall. Tucked in the back of Cumberland Farms at the corner of Rt. 6 and Brackett rd. The more recent owners of The Local Break have done a great job. Not that big of a place but very clean,comfortable and nice decor. Booths and tables and a nice bar and tall top tables. A couple of big screen TV's to catch the Yankee game. Lol! Nice selection of beers on tap. Small but great changing menu. A few items are always on it. The House Burger, one of the best burgers ever. My wife and I are chagrined that it took us several years to discover this wonderful restaurant practically in our backyard! I know I didn't give a 5. I got steak tip (rare) Cesar, which was good but 3 tips is a little chincy when you're charging over $20. The tips were cooked very well since I was asking for rare so no complaints there. The Cesar dressing is homemade but I wouldn't use chickpeas as a garnish.
