This is one of our favorite places. We miss Zach who was always friendly and very efficient, but the rest of the staff is also attentive and friendly. I'm not a fries girl, but I must say this place has the best fries I have ever had. I recently got a hot chicken sandwich. It was spicy, sweet, crunchy, smooth and one of the best things I have ever eaten. Love the po boys sandwiches and their fabulous burgers. My husband had a cajun soup that looked like any soup, but when I tasted away, I was blown away at the intense flavor of the broth. Cocktails are also great and there's a variety of seating outdoors. We waited 40 minutes to then find out our order was never placed...no one really seemed to care. So they either hire dumb people or dumb relatives or friends you don't care. Great all around. I think they recently renovated because I don't remember this place being so good when I was here years ago. I'm not a big fish guy but the place they source their fish from (Macs) is the best fish on the cape. They definitely don't have a ton of non-fish options (Burger, mac and cheese with chicken, both great...), so if I had any complaint that would probably be it - to expand their menu a bit. Also add Sam Adams on draft, haha! Overall a great place to relax with friends in Eastham, definitely a welcome spot to the community as there are not many other options nearby! read more

Pretty good food, but don't take kids here. We arrived at 5:15 when, the place was nearly empty, with 3 kids in tow. We ended up waiting for over an hour for anything to be served to the kids, much less ourselves. Many parties that came in later were served before us, with no explanation from the staff. In fact, the only response from the manager when we asked about the delay was to ask us angrily why we were giving his staff a hard time. Most restaurants with a kids' menu are pretty good at getting the kids' orders in and out quickly. I would cut Local Break a break for being relatively new, but the rudeness of the manager and lack of apologies from anyone on the staff were pretty infuriating. read more

My wife and I were excited to have a nice meal out and the reviews seemed positive. We were severely disappointed in the food. The mussels were delicious and a good selection of beers (thus the two stars) but the house burger and veggie burger were between inedible to manageable. I ordered the house burger "Medium" that came out "Rare"; I had to send it back and it came out barely "medium rare" with a bite or two still rare. I can feel the raw meat still in my mouth. The Veggie burger was mushy. I noticed other people's burgers were well undercooked. It could be the line-cook they had this evening just doesn't have a sense of how to cook the decent ingredients the restaurant has. read more

I have been vacationing on the cape for over 30 years. I was so happy to try something new. The menu was great. Familiar items with just a neat twist. If you are looking for family casual than this is the place. The owner, Mac Gallant, was very friendly. The wait staff was professional. I had the potato pancake app and beef dip. The roast beef was lean and tender. I really cant find anything to criticize. Good place to even stop in for a drink before going to the drive-in. Can't wait to go back. read more

I'm sort of envious at all of the other 4 and 5 star reviews. That was the experience I was sure I was in for, but I left so underwhelmed. I ordered the Local Nectar cocktail and it arrived with crushed red pepper flakes floating in it (lots of them.) Something that odd should definitely be mentioned in the menu description. It's on me for not sending it back I guess, I just really hate doing that. But too much heat can really screw with my stomach, and sure enough the drink delivered on that promise. It was tough to drink- strategically positioning my straw to avoid sucking up a chili flake- and it gave me tummy woes for the rest of the evening. The watermelon salad was really nice and refreshing at first, but once I got to the bottom layer there was an incredibly salty dressing underneath. Delicious but just a bit unbalanced. It ended up overpowering and spoiling the final taste. Unfortunately for me I had also ordered the salmon which ended up being nothing like I expected. I was picturing light fish surrounded by veggies. The menu even mentioned a coconut broth. Instead I got a med-well salmon in a bowl atop a literal soup of rice noodles, some small veggies, and a pure soy-sauce broth. And I mean pure. It was so salty that I was trying to salvage what I could of the meat and veggies while using my fork as a strainer to get the broth off of it. I was super disappointed. Lastly, my husband couldn't resist a side of the bacon mac n cheese and when it came out we were both kind of bummed. No creaminess, sort of cold and bland. Would have skipped it. I think my husband was happy with the shrimp po boy. I thought the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The cole slaw though, just tasted like raw onion. Again, not terrible, just unbalanced. Let me be clear that my intention is not to bash this place, nor am I a picky eater who just likes to hate on perfectly good food. I love food- to me it's a hobby (cooking and eating), a love, and kind of a borderline obsession. That's why I was so disappointed with this visit. For the price, it just didn't execute and didn't leave me with a reason to come back. Other reviewers can't say enough about the house burger so maybe I'd try it one more time for that reason, but next time I'll be sure to get a glass of wine. No risk of chili flakes there. read more

Local Break is a welcome addition to the restaurant scene on the Outer Cape. It's open all year (unlike many restaurants in the area) and the food consistently is delicious and inventive. Boston Magazine called it the "best new restaurant on the Cape" in their 2013 "Best of Boston" competition. Do you need any other reason to give it a try? The place isn't particularly attractive but the tables are positioned with enough space between them so you actually can have a conversation. I always appreciate that in a restaurant. The bar scene is lively. It's open until 1 a.m. The Prosecco Cocktail ($9) is amazing. I easily could devour a pitcher full of those on a hot summer day. We go to Local Break frequently during the summer and went twice last week to taste the fall menu. So many yummy options! You never can go wrong with the House Burger ($15) or Steak N Cheese sandwich ($13, with or without onions). We loved the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake appetizer ($14 for two cakes), which was enough to be an entree but contained shreds of crab meat rather than the promised lumps. It still tasted really good. The lime aioli that was drizzled alongside the crab cakes was divine. The Citrus Baby Green Salad made from baby romaine, peaches, mandarin oranges, grapes, tomatoes, goat cheese and lemon vinaigrette ($10) was delicious and enough for two people. Only a confident and skilled chef would offer an entree as complex as salmon with olive-sweet pepper relish, crispy artichokes, pea-mint puree, chickpea salad and pea shoots ($23). It was a winner. The scallops with mushroom risotto, smoked tomato vinaigrette and sweet potato chips ($24) were amazing. I can hardly wait to order it again. Desserts are made in-house and are worth every calorie. Oddly, no regular hot tea was available when we were there last weekend. Only herbal. Very strange and a bit disappointing. So we stayed and ordered a beer. bartender wasn't friendly, seemed like we were bothering him. a friend tried to order a margarita..he shook his head no..not a good drink.. It was close to 4 and we were starving..I asked if we could give him our order..he said he wouldn't put it in till 4..not a friendly bartender at ALL! Our food came and it was good..anytime we asked for something, it seemed like we were bothering him..ordered another round..trying to make the best of it..we were talking and laughing telling each other a story and we were told to watch what we say..last time I checked we were in a BAR..yes a BAR! not a great experience at local break, maybe the bartenders need a lesson on how to treat their customers..def won't be back to local Break thanks to the bartenders.. read more

So many great reviews, so very disappointed. We've had many fantastic meals in the Cape, and since the prices here are comparable or even higher, we had pretty high expectations. Long story short, the food sucked. We ordered BBQ short ribs and got something resembling braised beef with stale sweet potatoes chips and paid $21 for it. Also ordered broccoli salad and got a few pieces of broccoli on an inedible mass of cheese chunks. The Mac and Cheese was alright. If you have to eat here, it's a pretty safe bet. Came in here with a few friends to watch a game, have some food and a couple of drinks.We should have picked a different place. We sat at the bar and ordered clam chowder soup, Buffalo wings and a burger. You can't really mess up a burger so that was alright. Instead of a bowl, the soup was served in same type of a shallow plate as the burger... When we were ordering buffalo chicken wings they didn't bother asking if we want them mild medium or hot, and automatically brought out something that tasted like it was bathed in tobasco. My beer was warm and Sangria that a friend ordered was plain ginger ale. Also don't bother saying anything other than your order, as the bartenders here are annoyingly rude and have a polished skill of promptly killing the mood for everyone. read more

I debated whether or not I should post this review, because this is such a rare find in the Upper Cape and I did not want to wait in line to eat here. That said, since I was turned onto this place from the reviews here, I felt it only fair to share. What's good: - no wait at 7PM - kid friendly - cool decor and layout - friendly service - big tables - very cheap prices (almost too cheap because I don't mind paying for great food) - local beer menu - nice bar - great drinks - Tom cucumber Collins - yum - 4 flat panel tv's showing the Yanks - Sox game - Great and original new American cuisine We ordered the chicken wings (perfect - crispy), corn, pork wontons (unique and delicious), potato pancakes. All were excellent. For dinner we had the seafood boil, and the crabs fricasse. Both were excellent. If I could nitpick I would say a little too much salt on the crabs, but not ridiculous, and it would be nice to have bread to sop up some of the delicious seafood boil. That said, both dishes were excellent. Overall, a unique take on American food on a Cape that is known for being anything but unique with their rubber stamped fried seafood restaurants and lobster rolls. The place is right behind the bike shop. It's pretty nondescript and actually misleading (meaning it doesn't really draw you in). You might not even notice it's there. It's pretty much a pub, but a really nice pub. The food was great. Was it a bit pricey, yes. But as I said in different reviews, EVERY place down here is over priced. So it was relative. Loved this place! I had the crab cakes and sweet potato fries. Both were delicious. Crab cakes were fresh and sweet potato fries were crispy but not overdone. Came with a nice dipping sauce too. My husband got the chicken dinner, which was 2 fried chicken thighs, corn on the cob, and Mac n cheese with bacon. Chicken was Moist and served steaming hot. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was cute. It is a small place with fresh home cooked meals, classic dinners with a little flair, and the peach sangria was delicious too! read more

This is my 1st Yelp review and this was the worst experience I have ever encountered. Bartender was rude and seemed bothered by our presence. The service was mediocre at best. We were the only people at the bar, yet had to ask for another round each time. The food was decent, however masked by the rude service provided. We were asked at one point during our time there to please watch our language......bar atmosphere, but kids in bar......the last time I was reprimanded like that I was in grammar school and not a paying customer in an adult environment.
