Loblaws at Empress is still pretty much the same as before. The location is convenient: it's right at North York Centre TTC subway station. The store is large and clean. Selection is fairly good. The organization of products within the store is still not great for browsing. Items of the same kind will be in different sections of the store. Pricing is variable. Some prices are good, while others are more expensive compared to other stores. You would need to consider the price of each item, because it's hard to generalize. The pharmacy in the middle of the store gives vaccines by appointment. This is a great service to offer in a convenient location. It's nice to be able to shop for groceries during the post-vaccine waiting period. Service is okay. Checkout is fairly efficient, and there is self-checkout (although some of the self-checkout machines have problems). read more

Short staffed. The staff also look like they're overcome or just been chewed out. Milk on sale, no stock. Two week expired Red Hots hot dogs, full price. Looooon-g waits at cash or self checkout. Chrome bars at entrance to prevent shoplifters/runners. These same have 7 foot plexiglass 'walls' attached. The whole ambiance is like a prison. I used to shop here; it's on the subway. Never again. This Loblaws in Empress Walk is pretty cool to come across. It's open and there are big spiraling staircases that go down into the shopping center. If you parked at Empress Walk, you can get your parking validated here. There's also a Tim Hortons that is located near the exit there. I'm seeing more and more Tims in Loblaws stores! I was really only looking for oat and almond milks on this trip. I was able to find some located at the end of the produce section in a refrigerated case. They have self check-out available here which was a quick and easy way to pay. If you're using a coupon, it does require assistance from an employee so that might slow down the process a bit. read more

Loblaws is always clean. However I find some of their produce isn't as great in quality as Longo's at Yonge & Sheppard. I once bought a bag of avocados from Loblaws & compared them to an avocado left over from a bag I'd bought at Longo's. The Loblaws avocados were smaller than the Longo's ones. The taste was also not as great. What I like about this Loblaws is it's pet food section. They have birdseed. Since we have a bird feeder in the backyard this is where we can easily buy our birdseed. Longo's only has cat & dog food. Loblaws also has a larger selection & more categories than Longo's. The stocking clerks & cashiers at Loblaws are also nice & efficient. They are NOT getting my business if they hire rude pharmacy assistant who ignores customers. That is what their new pharmacy assistant did to me when I came to pick up my scrips last time. She was standing there working on the computer and ignored me for quite a bit of time. No acknowledge or nothing. Then finally she raised her head and said I will be with you shortly in an uninterested tone and continued working on the computer. The pharmacist at the back probably realized I was left waiting for too long so she came up to assist me. I picked up my scrips, thanked her and left. I am switching pharmacy. BYE. read more

2nd time we got something from this location that was mouldy. First time was fresh pasta. Almost understandable since this is not frozen. But this time, boxed frozen appetizers. With basic food handling it should be impossible for them to be mouldy. The package had obviously thawed and been refrozen at some point since they were frozen together, but not too badly. I don't shop at this location too often but stopped in due to the rain and a desire for underground parking. If you spend $10 at Loblaws you receive complementary parking for 1 hour. I ran in to buy some Yoso dairy free coconut yogurt (wooohoo they had it) and some vegetables. I found the produce more expensive than where I typically shop but that's okay; It was convenient and I got to stay dry. They have a large produce section and most of the fruits and vegetables look good. They also carry a moderate selection of gluten free products. read more

I love this Loblaws location, it is convenient for me, and the veggies are always fresh and sexy looking, yes I just called veggies sexy! :) What is different from this location to your typical grocery store is the fact that there is no ceiling, I know it sounds weird! You have to come see it to fully understand the concept. The store is taking very good care of, it has a nice clean feel to it, whether or not it really is clean might be another question but as long as it looks it, I'll go along with it. The fruits and veggies are my favourite section in this store, they are always fresh and nice looking, unlike the Metro that is close by. And for some reason, The cashier lines move much slower than elsewhere despite all lines being open. Broke the poke bowl cherry! LOCATION: Convenient as it is right when you enter through the TTC North York Centre stop and it is on your right, where the sushi bar is. SERVICE: As it is a new food item they are offering, when I asked for a poke bowl, the kind gentleman (prep staff) explained what you could get in it, he was polite and quick. It was a bit noisy though, so I only heard about 1/3 of what he said. SELECTION: protein, rice or salad base, toppings (5, unlimited) and sauce. Salmon was marinated with cucumber, some toppings included mango, seaweed salad and avocado, there were around a choice of 2-3 sauces. No ponzu unfortunately. TASTE: it was alright, not authentic Hawaiian poke obviously but it was filling and felt like a cross between a Freshii bowl and supermarket sushi. RE-PURCHASE: probably, if a food truck or restaurant is not around to offer poke, need to grab a quick bite before a meeting and I'm craving it. The price was $12.59, tax included. read more

If I had to compare Loblaws to any supermarket here in NY, it would have to be Fairway. Fairway meets Costco. Tucked in the cellar of a movie theater and across the street from the City Centre (where my hotel Novotel was) , Loblaws made me feel incredibly giddy with joy. Free samples of different food. Good lookin produce. Great candy isle. Smarties for instance come in all different size containers. Snagged their own bag of potato chips "President's Choice" flavored Pia Pia or something - was the best chip I've had in a while. Hoping work sends me back up to North York again just to snag more! =D What's also cool is that bags are 5 cents, so bringing your own bag is great way to save the planet. read more

This is the worst grocery store ever. Every time I come here I get pissed. Their on sale items are never in stock. There's never enough staff. The lines are slow and today even worse all the credit and debit card machines were down, created total chaos!! Seriously, the cashier was taking cash out of the machine as if she's picking fruits or something when there's a super long line behind me. When you did not think that the service could not get any worse ... it does! I called head office to complain. And their response? They admitted that they have issues at that store! The staff ASSUME that because you have brought your own bag, YOU will pack your own ... while trying to get the money to pay and someone behind you rushing you along with THEIR groceries to pack - who needs this pressure because people are too lazy to be doing their jobs?! Seriously! The store is shiny and gleaming and the experience ends in a bad, bad way at the cash register. The people working the checkout are miserable miserable miserable!!! You have to ASK how much (because they don't tell you) and do NOT expect a thank you because you won't get it. Honestly, I will avoid this place like the proverbial plague. The location is great and that is about all of the great things I can say. The fresh fruits are hit and miss. Sometimes you can find a certain things and then a day later the don't have it. Staff at the bakery can ignore customers and there are times when you can see how much they dislike each other. This store also has one of the worst layouts, shopping at another store and then this one you'll be challenged to find things easily. There are several bizarre half aisle. I can't imagine there being a worse run grocery store in the free world. You need to show your receipt to the parking attendant to not have to pay for parking but quite often they have none of the products (usually staple products) that I came for, so I leave empty handed and then have to pay to NOT buy anything simply to get my car out. The fresh departments are deplorable. If they have what you want (and that's a massive if) it's often rotting or past the best before date. Often the entire bread section is either past the date or it goes tomorrow. The produce is never rotated so there's a layer of rock hard fruit on top of a layer of rotting fruit. And good luck finding any bags in the bag holders. Same thing in the dairy. The eggs are all smashed and the yogurt is about to expire. The deli and the meat counter are....I guess ok. The fish counter is usually pretty picked through. If you can ever find a grocery clerk they're useless. They have a guy with a mullet and a ball cap who gets off on taking off with people's buggies when they're not looking. He's done it to me 3 times until I called him on it. He blamed it on me and said I'm obligated to be with my buggy at all times. I was literally 8 feet away trying to find a carton of eggs that wasn't all busted up. You never leave with everything you came for and every visit is a huge disappointment....yet here I am again, writing this in the beer aisle standing in a puddle of beer on the floor. This Loblaws is convenient with self checkout, ttc access, and free underground parking if you spend $10 or more. It is usually always clean and has a great selection for all the essentials. The prices are more than your average No Frills but the food is also much fresher than No Frills. You do get what you pay for when it comes to food. I like the fact that they have Organic Produce which is a nice touch. For those people who are in a hurry, they have ready made Sushi, pasta, and other items available. Dry cleaners and flower shops are downstairs if you need that too. Look for the No Tax days which are awesome for savvy consumers! read more

You know you have a problem when you choose where to live based on proximity to a certain grocery store. I love everything about this Loblaws, they have great produce and an awesome selection of organic food. The prices seem to be a bit higher than other stores but there is usually a version of what you want on sale and the more pleasant shopping experience makes up for the price difference for me. I also really like the self checkout. Since I tend to buy only a few things at a time, using the self checkout lets me get in and out of the store very quickly (when not stuck behind someone learning to use it for the first time). read more

this has got to be the coolest supermarket I've ever been, hands down! Open concept (literally open, there's no ceiling.. If you are in the supermarket main area, you can look up and see three stories high), smack in the middle of the complex, it's pretty sweet. I must confess I've has the urge to spit down from above on a few occasions. The actual grocery sections are well maintained. They are in the midst of renovations now. There's the nifty self checkout for all those people like me who have a secret desire to be a supermarket cashier (no I'm being serious - childhood fantasy). Anyway, just like most other Loblaws. Their fruits & veggies section is pretty good as well as their bakery. Good location, good hours. Loblaws is typically more expensive, but there is quality. I love that I can really get everything here. My favourite sections: organic, international foods, salad bar and the prepared food section. There is always some reduced items for quick sale. The staff are so GOOD! Every time I need something, every staff member I asked then went above and beyond and look at the back for me or tell when to come back. Great location and hours, early enough so that you can go there on your way to work and grab breakfast and late enough to beat the after work rush. There is a wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables including a section for organic produce. I also like the fact that they have a "healthy foods" section where you can purchase healthy staple items like quinoa, couscous, bulgar, etc. I absolutely love Loblaws President's Choice line because the quality is just as comparable as other name brands at a lower price. They also offer baked rotisserie chicken, wedges, pizza in in their hot foods kitchen, a sushi bar prepared daily or you can grab a salad at their fresh salad bar if you ever need a quick affordable lunch. If you're a price oriented customer like me, don't expect to find low prices here, however, they occasionally have sales throughout the week so you can save a few dollars OR you can always be the gutsy customer and bring flyers to do some price matching! Lol. Parking is available and free as long as you spend minimum $10 for maximum 1 hour of shopping. Overall, this is my go to grocery store because of the convenience and wide selection of healthy food products. read more

This is the worst Loblaws location in the GTA. Bakery staff don't put out baked goods until late in the morning and deliberately ignore you if you ask when they will be brought out. This has happened so many times that I don't bother checking any longer. Self checkouts are never open when I am there at 7:30 and the one cashier they seem to have scheduled each morning is nasty and slow. Very large clean friendly knowledgeable establishment with special large sized 4-5 freezers full of food allergy subs. Of great quality products. I haven't had time to go throughout store but shopped here 1/2 doz. x, so far so good. Found that they discount near expired products or Best Before ( there is a difference if you DONOT know the difference 50% off. ) Wish I knew when but I guess, I will find out when I get there or try to call ahead? Ever since I've moved, I've started coming here more regularly and it's made me appreciate the Bayview Village location so much more. This is a reliable location - it's got all the basics and more, but it's just always super crowded and not as convenient as I'd like. It's usually well-stocked and clean, but I've found it more tempting to shop at Whole Foods since that location opened last year. This Loblaws doesn't carry much in the way of Kosher foods and NO Walden farms products and I often notice expired products on the shelves around the store and in the deli...and there's often a funky smell coming from the Organics dairy case. Check your receipt carefully - I've been charged the wrong price for items on several occasions. read more

A little bit pricey but it's within walking distance so I pay the diff for convenience, there is also an LCBO right upstairs from Loblaws so you get one stop shopping. Shoppers Beware: Check the Best Before Dates! I was stunned by the number of out-of-date packages. Dole prepared salads, two days past expiry; milk, six days past; bread, four days after bake date! All were on the shelf at full price. Also check the cold cuts - they are often close to expiry. We shop on Wednesdays around 11AM. The staff are friendly and helpful but constantly blocking the aisles with their carts, often by placing them across the aisle or side by side - completely unnecessary. Product availability is spotty at best. Check-out can be too long but is usually okay. Cleanliness is good. Variety is reasonable for most items. I'm waiting for an "Under New Management" sign before coming back here. read more
