We booked our trip to Italy through groupon, so we didn't have a choice of hotels, but Lloyd's was one that was given to us for our time in Salerno. Right off the bat we were impressed by the high-end décor they chose within the facility. Everything was clean and bright, very pleasing to the eye with tons of natural light and sunshine; as well as being extremely clean. Most of the front desk help was pleasant- some were not, they all spoke enough English to make the process easy for us. One parking attendant did force us to park into a spot that was too small for our car and it scraped the whole side onto a metal pole- which HE wasn't fazed by but we were. One receptionist was extremely rude to us when we were returning with a bag of chips- they let us know very abruptly that they did not allow ANY outside food in (just FYI). Our room was pretty with a great view- but if you choose to leave the doors open for fresh air (which you will HAVE to do, as it gets very hot in the rooms with NO A/C in the "off" months) then you will be subject to the load noises of cargo boats loading and unloading 18 wheel trucks for hauling good across Italy. It was extremely noisy and distracting, making it hard to sleep. *NOTE*: this is a very very busy port with LOTS of traffic. The noise wasn't the only thing that made it hard to sleep- the beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable, as well as the pillows. We had a "king" sized bed, which was 2 twin mattresses next to each other that kept sliding off the bed frame- which was kind of annoying as well. They market themselves as having beach access- but I assure you currently- THEY DO NOT. There was a lift that was hidden and unmaintained to get down to the beach, where it opened to a complete construction zone. It looks like it used to be a restaurant/ bar but it was completely fenced in and I had to climb over a rusty fence to get to the sand (I also obtained a scratch doing so). Not to mention the garbage, dirt, and rusty nails that were literally everywhere within the construction zone; I mean PILES of garbage and bagged dog feces. I know we visited in the off season, but I feel it could still have been better maintained. No beach chairs either- and it was a very public beach with public access (even though they say it's a private beach). I am also an animal person- and all the traps they had everywhere to catch and kill the lizards was horrible and saddening to me. Some pluses were: we always had hot water, a wonderful breakfast, walking distance to a BEAUTIFUL commune of ceramic artists and great restaurants, and our room had USB ports which we were able to charge our phones from. I do not think I would stay here again unfortunately, but it had it's pros and cons. I loved the area and would definitely try another hotel or bed and breakfast in the vicinity. read more
