My wife and I just arrived for the final stage of our honeymoon. Recommendation to US or UK travelers, DO NOT STAY HERE!
1) I booked a Superior Sea View room, in anticipation of a walk out balcony with a table and chairs, as described on their website "Superior sea view: bright and spacious, the superior rooms enjoy a wonderful view of the Amalfi Coast. The superior rooms at Hotel Raito have outside balconies furnished with a small table and chairs, allowing you to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Amalfi Coast."
When we checked in, we were escorted to a tiny room with only a window, no balcony. TOURIST TRAP, not as described on the website! We ended up upgrading to a suit for 400E Euros just to get a balcony ..which is now bigger than the room.., pretty sure it's a con job. The front desk clerk claimed the website was "incorrect" and that she would contact their service. I doubt we're the first to experience this indscrependency. No refund, no correction of accommodations, pay, or no balcony.
2) Room service is closed by 11PM, which means no ice or service unless you call the front desk.
3) No air-conditioning in April - not bad, except even in early April '16 the temp is supposed to get to almost 80 degrees F. Apparently it's an Italian law about when they can turn on AC. Funny, it worked in all of our hotels in Rome, Florence, and Venice.
4) Restaurant food is OK, but nothing to write home about.
5) Hotel "bus" service only runs 6 times a day to the city center, and only when requested, which means you are there for basically the entire day, or subject to their schedule. Good news is, you can pay for a taxi to return you to the hotel.
6) Bathroom in the "Sunset Suite" includes only a very small shower, not the luxury you expect for the amount you spend.
7) WiFi is spotty at best (resets frequently), and limited to only a few devices unless you request more at the front desk.
...
On the plus side:
1) Very good English speaking front desk personnel and very polite hotel crew.
2) Hotel restaurant seems to have very OK food, my wife and I both enjoyed ours.
3) Fantastic views.
Finally, given the amount we spent to stay here prior to the upgrade (more than 300E), thinking a boutique hotel would offer better service and accommodations, I can only recommend staying elsewhere. read more
