Such a gorgeous, hidden gem vibe with plenty of seating whether you want the bar or a table. The food was genuinely unforgettable, we were still talking about it days later. If you love bold flavor with a little heat, this is your spot. We got the Bruschetta (grilled herb crostini, mozzarella, plum tomato compote), P.E.I. Mussels (chorizo, cherry pepper, riesling white wine), Wasabi Calamari (sesame crusted, spicy soy ginger sauce, wasabi aioli), Shrimp Mezze Rigate (pesto, sun-dried tomato, asparagus, breadcrumb, ricotta salata), and Cherry Pepper Pork (pounded, breaded, pan-fried, lemon cherry pepper sauce, melted parmesan, green beans, roasted potato), every dish was packed with flavor. Don't sleep on dessert either: a chocolate shell you crack open to reveal mousse inside, we were fighting to get the last bites! Bonus: they carry LI Salted Spirits cans and cocktails right at the bar, so you can keep the tasting going. Plenty of parking, super friendly staff, and a great spot for everyone. I NEVER leave bad reviews unless they are absolutely deserved. I am well known in the Long Island Karaoke Community as I have been to a great many Karaoke bars on Long Island. The ONLY advantage that The Lizard Lounge (aka Long Island Karaoke) has over other bars is that it hosts Karaoke most nights of the week. The service is terrible, the food is non existent, the sound system has so much echo and reverb going on that it is overwhelming to listen to let alone sing with it.. Don't even get me started on the bar owner... He has poor manners, physically and verbally harassed more than just a few of my friends (one is more than enough). The drinks are WAY over priced, there are no drink specials worth mentioning and food is practically nonexistent. This bar has a lot of potential and some of the people who go there are great. Unfortunately, when you have someone like Jay (the bar owner) calling the shots and making some very big and very bad mistakes within the Karaoke Community things are bound to turn sour. It really is a shame since this bar has been around a long time and used to be a fantastic place. Things change though and I am definitely not the only one who is unhappy with what this place has become. Don't let them sell you over with 10+ year old awards, features on network T.V. from the early 2000's etc. This bar has fallen far from where it used to be and there are so many better places to sing Karaoke on Long Island than here. read more

How is this place still open!? I've given this Hell Hole it's fair chance by coming more than once just to make sure I didn't catch it on a bad night and each time was worse than the last! It's ONLY redeeming quality is the cosplay karaoke people that wander in every so often. The place is trying too desperately to look like a club and ends up looking more like a low class strip joint. I've met the owner a couple times when he jumped behind the bar and he was so brash and unfriendly I wanted to leave immediately. He sees you as a dollar sign, don't expect to be treated with respect by him no matter how much money you spend. He's also really stingey with buy backs. Buy an overpriced watered down drink or get out; conversation and enjoyment not allowed. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

They have the best karaoke Wednesday thru Saturday and if you haven't been you need too. If you have been you absolutely must come back. Everyone here is amazing customers and employees alike. Best place for Karaoke? Maybe if you're in with the DJ or something, otherwise you'll watch the same people go up 3-4 times for every time you go up. No courtesy glass of water for designated drivers, you're still stuck blowing 3 bucks on a bottle of water like you're at a concert. Oh, and don't bother trying to get away with not drinking anything either, cuz they're rude about that too. Better off with a dive bar if you actually wanna sing at all, not be harassed, and actually be extended some courtesy. read more

I've been here for karaoke a couple of times over the years. The owner and bartenders are super friendly and engaging. The crowd is INTO the karaoke and the vibe is very warm, welcoming, and supportive. There were a good amount of people there for a Wed night in the middle of standard work week which was nice. Three of them have been at NuBar, and I'm coming back this Monday night to celebrate my 100th show! Why NuBar? Because when I search Google Maps for gay bars, whether it's in Iceland or down South, I'm always shocked by the stark lack of LGBTQ venues in the state of New Jersey, or anywhere on Long Island. Sure, there's Fire Island. But not everyone who wants a drag show has the time, money, or whatever to leave town, hop a ferry, and make a whole night of it. Why can't LGBTQ spaces happen -- right down the block from where we live? When I first booked a show here, Chris made sure I knew the place was a little smaller than what I might be used to. Sure, there's not a proper stage or a lighting grid or a smoke machine. But that's what you go to Fire Island for, right? At NuBar, I'm always welcomed so enthusiastically by the staff, and hey there must be a need in the area of LGBTQ spaces, because we always get such a good turnout. And not for nothing, but I've entertained all kinds of audiences (can you believe I actually got Germans to laugh in Berlin???) but when I think of NuBar, I always remember a really warm, friendly, authentic group of people who appreciate the vibe. Thank you guys for bringing drag and LGBTQ visibility where it's needed -- right here in your own community! :) I've never not had a good time at NuBar.
