During Easter, there are a limited number of restaurants open so it's a win. This used to be the sayville diner. It's definitely a local neighborhood restaurant. We ordered the following: - baby back ribs - best part of the meal - sushi and sashimi platter - some fish were fresher than others. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place before now. We've been living here for four years and this is our go to place when we do SUSHI. The food is amazing ranging from good to great. I've never had anything here that I disliked. The Korean wonton soup is a must for me. Poké bowls also great. Avocado bomb. Kani salad, Lobster cracker or tuna cracker all great appetizers. I so wanted to love Koi. They had good reviews so I decided to take a break from my usual sushi spot and try something new. It was a mistake. I ordered online mainly because they offer 10% off and it was very easy. You go and pick up your food off of a table for a contactless pickup. Super some, easy and safe. That's the main reason I am granting this restaurant 2 stars. The food itself was terrible. We ordered gyoza, spicy tuna roll, tornado roll, love boat platter, and chicken katsu. Overall my main complaint is the food was very, very bland and the supposedly spicy rolls had zero spice. Like none. Additionally, the sashimi in the love boat was borderline frozen which was absolutely disgusting and went in the garbage. The breading on the chicken katsu was falling off and the "katsu sauce" was legit elementary school bbq sauce, which to be honest had me going back for more due to the nostalgia despite the fact that I was repulsed. I've been in the Sayville area for over a year, and I've yet to try Koi, until last night. I must have passed this on Main St hundreds of times since then. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and saw how nice it was. From the outside, it looks a bit dated and not too inviting, but the inside was nice. I really hope for their sake they update the outside, as it would tremendously help the curb appeal and grab more peoples attention. We started off with drinks and Rock Shrimp Tempura. We really enjoyed the that app, it's was super fresh and the shrimp had a great texture. For dinner, we shared 2 Sex on the Beach and 2 Empire rolls. They were really good, and our waitress was super attentive. Water was refilled without asking, and refills on our drinks were asked as they were being finished. The Restaurant was incredibly clean and surprisingly spacious. The service was quick & very friendly. The Food was delish. Located in the heart of Sayville, parking might be tricky. If street parking isn't available you'll need to find parking behind the stores on either side of Main St. The Lunch Prices were phenomenal. The portions were great for lunch. The Service was spectacular. Every time I needed, refills were provided, even without request. If your in a hurry or want to have a long relaxing lunch, this restaurant will accommodate you. The Food was Delish! Best Sushi in the surrounding area for sure. Everything was incredibly fresh. I noticed they offer so many creative specials unique to the area, I'm intrigued to try a few on my next visit. I will be reviewing what I tried: -Steak Teriyaki Bento Box: Some of the tastiest Teriyaki Sauce I've ever had. Came with Miso Soup, Steak (7 decent sized slices), a tiny portion of Veggies, 1 Scoop of Rice, 4 Pieces of California Roll & 3 Shumai. The Steak was juicy. Loved the Shumai and the Miso Soup was marvelous. I also ordered a house salad for an additional $3 and was happy with the freshness of the lettuce and the house made dressing on top. I would definitely order this dish again. 5 out of 5 Stars -Lunch Roll Special (2 Orders of Spicy Tuna Rolls, 1 Order of Shrimp Tempura Rolls): $13 for 17 pieces of Sushi is a great deal. This was my 2nd time visiting Koi. Both trips were enjoyed. The fish seems fresh and the menu has decent offerings. There are choices for those not into sushi. Some Chinese and Thai options. We tried a rib special that I was sure I would not enjoy. It was very very good. Meat fell right off the bone. Delicious sauce that was not overpowering. They should put those ribs on the menu. Everything else was great. Tried a Beaty and the Beast roll. Few pieces of sushi and a peppered tuna roll. My only complaint on both trips has been with their drinks. Wow, good sushi!!!! This place was super cute. First time I had ever been. We were looking for sushi but wanted something different than the places we usually go to. It looks like an old diner on Main Street which is cool because it adds a twist to the classic sushi place. Such a warm welcoming, atleast the waitress we had. She was super nice and sat us right away and told us about the specials on food and drinks. We got the Mai Tais and they were super good. I was here on a date, and it was def a good spot to go to for sushi. There was music which added a little fun but it was also was a good environment to chat and have a nice dinner. Ok now on to the food.... YUM!!!! I got the Panhandler and it was delicious. Nice big roll that def filled me up. I tend to go more with cooked rolls when I eat sushi, so I can't speak on the rest of the menu but I did see a plate of sashimi pass by our table and it looked very nice. The presentation was the best part, so cute !!!! Had flowers and designs on the plate... Made it fun when it arrived.... Very appetizing and enjoyable to eat. I would def come back to this place. It was a little pricy, but I feel like you get what you pay for when it comes to sushi and I could definitely taste the difference between this and an "all you can eat" type of menu. Cute place, good food but the service is lacking. Nicer inside than expected based on the fact that the outside looks like an old diner. Other than the bar, all I saw was booth seats. I'm assuming we got the male waiter other Yelpers complained about, not sure cause no name was provided and the person looked androgynous. While mostly polite, once the food arrived we didn't see the waiter again until it was time to clear the plates. No mid meal check in, no replenishing of our waters, nothing, thank god our meals were too moist to choke on. You might want to consider bringing an Epipen because the chef doesn't care about your food allergies. We asked for a habachi dish sans mushrooms but it arrived with them (this wasn't the waiter's fault, they documented the request). This was our first time trying Koi. We came on the recommendation of Newsday and we are fairly new to this particular area. They have ample parking behind the building which is a plus and the restaurant itself is very small but clean. It's a converted diner so that's how it's set up inside - with a huge bar spanning the length of the restaurant and booths around the perimeter. We started off with a chicken satay that came with 4 pieces and a side of peanut sauce. The chicken was very lightly fried and was super tasty. The only downside to this dish is that the portion was a little small - we wanted more! Next we had 2 rolls - Sex on the Beach and Air Force One. These were great and tasted fresh. The pieces were cut much wider and bigger than other places I've been so it was a little hard to fit in our mouths. :/ Hubby thought the saki was smooth and delicious. Overall this place was great and we'll be back to try more. The prices are a little higher than normal but you get what you pay for. read more

Fairly new edition to the adorable town of Sayville.. perfectly located on Main Street where you will find many shops and food selections to meet your needs... saw koi while sitting across the street from Super Bowls... immediately I knew I wanted to head in there after to grab a bite and taste this new, cute sushi spot, ya know peep the scene.... The place is nice, not too big, booth style seating appropriate for parties 2-6 I'm sure they can accompany more though... we walked in and there was a pretty strong scent of fish in the air, common in most sushi spots but it just smelled rather strong... however, that was my only issue. The tasty bites we inhaled: salad, miso soup, shumai and tuna and salmon rolls on soy paper were very good. That seems like an easy enough order anyway but we did really enjoy our sushi.. peeped other plates as they were passing on by and they looked decent as well... The place wasn't like an amazing experience but they were very nice, the place was clean (besides the smell which I didn't even notice after sitting there for a few), and our food was served pretty quick. Came here the other night to give it a shot and it was good! The place was pretty empty for a Friday night and the vibe was excellent but the food was still good and that's what's most important. We started with the house salad and spring rolls. The ginger dressing of the salad was not our favorite and there was way to much of it on the salad. The spring rolls however were excellent! We wanted more! They tasted fresh and were light and delicious. We got the crunch roll which I forgot to take a picture of but it was really good! Next we got the chicken and broccoli that comes with white rice. Another excellent dish. It wasn't over-sauced and my girlfriend really enjoyed that the chicken pieces were "nice and flat". The broccoli was also softer then most places, which I really enjoyed. Overall our experience here was very good and I would recommend it to anyone. The menu is huge and serves everything from hibachi to poke bowls to sushi to classic dishes, so there is something for everyone. read more

We ordered some hot saki and some beer- the drinks came almost immediately- we also happen to get on the servers good side by joking around, she had a good sense of humor. The atmosphere was cozy and if I were to go alone, chances are I'd sit at the bar. I have been waiting for this sushi restaurant to open in Sayville ever since we first saw the signs that they were moving in. Since I moved, I just recently went for the first time and it didn't disappoint. We got the spicy tuna pizza which was a very good appetizer we almost got 2! But we knew we had more food to come so we ordered the sayville roll, Godzilla roll(middle of picture) and spicy girl(right side). Sayville and Godzilla were definitely my top two they were amazing. With 3 of us it was enough but decided to split the tempura cheesecake and that was great beyond belief. I was happy to find that the former Modern Diner was turned into a sushi place.  Talk about an upgrade! They make some of my favorite chicken pad tai, and it has become my go-to order.  I also ordered some shrimp tempura rolls, but I wasn't blown away. I found that the shrimp was overcooked, and little too firm.  Still, I love that Koi is in place and I will definitely order from them again. read more

First time dining here- First things first- for a cold evening the restaurant is nice and toasty! My mom and I started with the tuna avocado cucumber bites. Very, very tasty! We both decided to try their hibachi- both had filet and seafood ( shrimp for me, scallop for mom) Hibachi meals came with soup( delish, mon thought it was a bit salty) salad ( mom thought delish, I thought dressing was a bit too sweet and lacked the real Japanese "gingery" flavor, but fresh and nice cold greens! ) Meals arrive- food plate was broken into sections; vegetable, fried rice ( no hibachi style, just fried, but still good ) Meat and seafood was in a sauce- not your traditional hibachi style- more Chinese take out style. Once we both ate our protein ( filet and seafood) both were over cooked. Well done is most fitting. The waitress as soon as we picked up our forks to try the food asked " how is everything" from first vegetable we tasted, both responded " good" it was a bit later when we sampled had we notice and at that point did not see the waitress. When the waitress returned we said " love the place, loved the sushi bite, and many part of the main meal, however, the meat and seafood both over cooked. For $77.00 there should have been a small concession- I'm not looking for a free meal- but at least take off an ice tea or a fried rice. The waitress poorly handled our complaint, management didn't come and address the problem. When I mentioned to the waitress there should be some sort of adjustment/ concession. When the waitress stormed back she snapped we took $3 off and next time say something- I know there is a language barrier, and delivery by the waitress was salty. So if you have an issue with you meal my advice Juno out of your chair immediately and complain. As for the management- you have good reviews no doubt, but this is the only sushi joint in Sayville. Make certain you come and speak to customers when they are having an issue and not have low level employees handle customer complaints they clearly cannot handle. Food was great only downfall was.... we did a group order from where I work and I ordered a sashimi tuna and didn't think to ask it be out in a seperate container. They placed it with my co workers meal so I didn't have my own dish. I didn't think to ask for a separate container for a separate item on the menu. Food was delicious tho!!
