The food is alright, I've eaten there pretty consistently the last half a decade+ but I have no idea why? But every time I order bone-in-ribs now, it's the driest most overcooked ribs in history. It wouldn't be so bad that they taste/look like they dropped them in a fryer instead of properly cooking them, but the fact that they have ZERO sauce BECAUSE they just fry them? You guys are too lazy/cheap to toss it in some BBQ sauce after? And then when I ask them to make sure they're sauced, they charge me EXTRA for "extra" sauce? You didn't even put any on in the first place! Yeats ago they were good and had a nice red BBQ sauce and tasted/looked like they were cooked in an oven. Now? The meat itself is dry af because it's overcooked, chewy af(because it's fried) and bone dry. How are these plain ribs with nothing on them BBQ? If there's no BBQ sauce? All i got was a pint of pork fried rice. The guy sneezed several times to get my bag and then preceded to come back out and sneeze on my bag containing the pint of my pork fried rice. We ordered the Chicken and Broccoli, Beef Lo Mein, Roast Pork Fried Rice, and Egg Drop Soup. It was disgusting. We threw all the food out. The soup was the only item we ate. Pretty solid Chinese food joint that has been around forever and is a go-to for the neighboring area. It's a old-school kind of place where even the building and inside dining area looks a bit worn for wear, but to me that's it's simplistic charm. what matters is the food which is very fresh and large portions. We normally order take out which is a big part of their biz, but once in a while we take a seat inside if we have time. Fair prices and hot tasty menus offerings. Nice staff. read more

My wife and I went to Dah Lee yesterday, it's been a minute. I had lobster Cantonese on my mind forever! Ever since Hoi Ming closed in W Sayville it's been very hard to find another Chinese restaurant that makes Quality Lobster Cantonese. I asked if they had it today, our waiter he should I said I hope soo, he said what if I have 2? I said I'll buy 2 anyway. Because I'd like to have leftovers it's been so long since I've had it. From the egg drop/wonton soup,the crispy not oily egg roll, boneless ribs,(not hard and sugary) just perfect they tasted like meat cut off of spare ribs, crunchy,tasty not oily shrimp toast, To my wife's Crunchy Orange Chicken (she was in love with the taste and texture) to my 2 orders of lobster w/ white rice on the side. I was back at Hoi Ming and some of the old Chinese places my parents took us too as kids. Great Service! The only thing missing was music in the background for ambiance. This was a delicious and satisfying meal. The portions were generous and well priced. They were more than happy to replace the meat in the sesame chicken with fried tofu to make it vegetarian, and OMG, it was bonkers good. The tofu was perfectly crispy and soft inside and the sesame sauce was addictive. I highly recommend this spot for vegetarians because you can make almost any dish vegetarian. The service was also incredible - there was only one waiter working, but you would think there were four. I ordered vegetable dumplings and they brought me pork. I brought it up and they just argued with me. They told me that they would show me the packaging. I told them I don't want to see a package, I want vegetable dumplings. They didn't correct the problem and I didn't eat them. They still charged me for them. Discovered this place a year ago ( I'm not from the area) but it's a great old style Chinese restaurant you just don't see around anymore because everyone's gone "Fusion". I'm glad they're still original. Food was delicious especially the Wonton soup! Broth has flavor. And it's hard to find a place that offers wide crunchy noodles. Not bad, pretty good for Chinese and great customer service. I walked in and that place has been there since I moved to ronkonkoma in 1981. So, I did the normal, egg drop wanton mix soup test & it was COMPLETELY FRESH. Velvet smooth. Great balance! The shrimp toast WAS NOT greasy at all. Two other staples to try are fantail shrimp & The fresh egg rolls. Every time I've eaten here I've been presently surprised! Fried rice, also excellent! I had mine with shrimp. Let me inset this delicious tidbit, the shrimp in the lo mein was larger than other take out chinese places! Egg foo young was terrific. This place is now going to be a stop every time I land in NY to visit my family home. Try the wonton egg drop soup, it's amazeballs! I used to come here on a regular basis. The food was ok but noticed since 2020 the quality of the product has decreased. I work very close to this location and decided to give them another chance. I placed my order online and did not see an area to request white meat chicken. I wrote my request in the comments. The owner actually called me up to tell me that he couldn't fulfill my request. When I mentioned I had gotten white meat chicken there before, he told me that wasn't the problem. He said white meat chicken is $1.00 more and how was he gonna charge me? He then laughed. I was without my car at work that day, we had a pretty bad storm. I was counting on this delivery. It isn't my fault they don't have that listed. If he wouldn't have said the thing about the extra $1 and it being such a big deal then whatever. The fact that this guy made such a stink about $1 when there should be an option to order that way, turned me off. I told him don't worry about the dollar and to cancel the entire order. Rather than losing a dollar he lost a $14 dollar order. He also lost a customer. I will never go back there. Due to the misunderstanding and that fact that he doesn't have a way to order that way set up, it would have been nice if he would have said he would fix it so I could be charged appropriately next time etc. But he clearly doesn't care about his customers. I have been going to this restaurant for about a year. They have always had the best food till last night 1/17/2020. I placed a $50 order and was shocked that the food was subpar. I noticed that the owner was not his normal joyous self and seemed distant and not happy. I ordered Shrimp toast and when I got home I had deep fried toast minus any shrimp at all and very small. I also ordered 2 orders of fried dumplings that were so small and had no taste plus only a half a small container of sauce for them. We ordered also house special Egg Foo Young and it tasted burned not good at all. I may give this place one more try because they are usually the best in the area. But I may not. My family used to go to Dah Lee when I was just a kid - thats how long this place has been in business! The establishment is a stand alone brick building, nothing has changed since the 90s or even earlier. We recently rediscovered this place and decided to give it a whirl again.. everything is tasty! Boneless ribs have NO fat on them, chicken and broccoli is always packed in the container and super delicious with thicker chunks of meat, hot and sour soup is SPICY and a bit thicker than other places which i really enjoy, steamed dumplings have SO much flavor... definitely one of the best Chinese spots locally and we will continue to return. read more

Dah Lee Restaurant of Church Street is a fine place for a quick glass of the spirits: Dewars, rocks. And Crab Rangoon. They have a designated cocktail lounge with a bar that sits about eight, a great scene with the locals picking up their take-out orders. The food is pretty good too, it used to be my regular spot when I lived in these parts. I've been coming to Dah Lee Chinese restaurant for over 25 years, and have to say their food is delicious. However, their Customer Service is absolutely TERRIBLE. I placed an order for delivery, and usually they arrive earlier than when they say. I was my order would arrive in 40 minutes. When the order didn't arrive after an hour, I called them back. They told me the order just left. 25 minutes later, my order arrives cold. I microwaved it, and my wife and I began to eat the main course. I called them back, and asked to speak with the manager i contacted earlier, and was told he was not there. They offered to give me credit on my NEXT order, but told them after this incident, there wouldn't be a next time, and asked for a discount on THIS order. While the interior leaves something to be desired (it is a converted house), the food more than makes up for it.
